Dragon Book Flyers is a short children's book written by author Cynthia Star. The story revolves around David, a little kid who wants to learn everything there is to know about dragons. So he can get into the secret Dragon Flyer's Club! He gets all the help he can from his friend Joe. And he also has a book called the Dragon Book of Secrets to help him in his pursuits! The story is action-packed and full of imagination and creativity. It's something that children will love to read about! Even being a grown-up, this adventurous storey still captivated me!
David is a sweet character on his journey to learn so much about life and friendships! He has a plethora of adventures with Moonlight- his dragon and his friends. It's intriguing to read about the happening in David's innocent mind and to go through everything he imagines and perceives! Joe and his dragon Dart are also an interesting part of the story, and they bring even more fun into it! The book is highly descriptive and will pique children's interest. The vibrancy with which the book is narrated is highly appealing for young minds!
The book is written in simple and easy-to-understand language for children of all ages! The dialogue writing is straightforward. And the author manages to teach children great life lessons in subtle ways through this story! The atmospheric experience that children would get reading this will take them on an adventurous journey hand in hand with the characters of the book! Books like these are entertaining as well as educative for children at the same time, teaching them good morals and lessons! Parents should check this book out for their imaginative kids, who like to explore different worlds via different stories! This book would make for a great addition to children's collection of storybooks!
What worked: The pace of the book is very rapid which should appeal to reluctant readers. The chapters are short and include illustrations of the characters and their dragons, and the whole thing can be read in one sitting. The plot follows David and his dragon Moonlight, as David hopes to join the elite Dragon Flyers team. He must learn everything in the “Dragon Book of Secrets” before applying for membership. He then participates in his first act as a new member, and this whole story is completed in under 60 pages. The characters and dragons are quite interesting despite limited descriptions. David is surprised to learn the Dragon Flyers are led by a girl, but he’s happy to become a member alongside his best friend Joe. The individual dragons have unique powers that are very useful when upholding the Dragon Flyers Motto: defenders of right, righters of wrong. David’s dragon is able to control moonlight, while another one is able to hide using camouflage. The first adventure involves rescuing one of their comrades. What didn’t work as well: The problem with a book this short is it leaves out details concerning the characters and plots. Little time is given to a backstory, so readers are thrown right into the action from the beginning. We’re left wondering about the world happening beyond David’s location, how David became paired with a dragon, and exactly who the Dragon Flyers are defending. The Final Verdict: Working together as a team. The premise of the book is great, especially having dragons with unique abilities working together. More description and details would make this book meatier, as it feels like it’s over just as it gets started. I know there are at least two more books in the series, so I recommend reading them all at the same time.
David wants nothing more than becoming a Dragon Flyer, but he has a lot to learn about dragons. He has his friend Joe, who is already a Dragon Flyer to help him in this pursuit. Joe gives him a book that can teach him about Dragons and help him in becoming a Dragon Flyer, the Dragon book of Secrets.
Will David be able to talk with his Dragon Moonlight, like Joe can talk to his Dragon Dart? Will David be able to stick to the book's warning of never touching a Dragon's Stone? And Will he be able to make it to the Dragon Flyer's Team?
The Dragon Flyers is a magical and adventurous tale of beautiful and powerful dragons and their Dragon Flyers. The world building in this book is great and effortless, I could see everything happening before my eyes while reading the book. It can be easily adapted into an animation series that kids will love!
Not only is the book fast paced, engaging and entertaining but it is also full of pure and innocent emotions and adventure. It is a whole package, full of magic, adventure and lessons in friendship. Dragon Flyers is one of the best books that you can gift your kid with its fantastic storytelling and imaginative and adventurous tale. Can't wait to read the next books in this series and join David and Moonlight in their next adventure!
Thank you to Cynthia Star Books and Netgalley for the review copy in exchange for an honest review. This does not change my opinion in anyway.
Dragons and middle grade are a combination that was always going to grab my attention. Though when I requested the book I didn't realize this was going to be a chapter book which isn't nessecarily what I would normally pick up.
This book is a chapter book of about 40 pages and it is really short. That has its good and bad bits.
The good is that I think that this will more easily appeal to the kids (and specifically boys) who struggle with reading. It is short, quick and to the point. If they are going to have to read for school this is quite excellent to do its job and grab them.
But the bad is that there was no room for ANY worldbuilding. We just get thrown in and there is no explanation of a lot of things. There is no room to build out any character. There is only action, action. Little description. I think its a choice because I have seen other chapter books be able to do this still. But I think that is why this book would not appeal to the kid that is a more average reader.
The Dragon Flyers - Book One: A dragon chapter book adventure series is an amazing book written by Cynthia Star and It's an very intriguing book which kept you hooked with it throughout the end of it. There is no way back once you start reading it.
Writing style of the author is very good and error free and I really like the title of the book
Vocabulary of the book is very good and also the language of the book is great and author has narrated this story very nicely and also it's very easy to read for kids.
The cover is highlight for me and It's simple but still looks amazing.
I highly recommend this book to all the parents for their kids.
Overall it's an amazing read and I highly recommend this book to all the parents out there for their kids.
This book had some things I really enjoy—a group of kids, adventures together, cool dragons, and magic. As an adult reader, I felt that the plot of the short stories / chapters left something to be desired. It felt like short little episodes in a kids TV show, with lots of action but not a lot of depth. Some of the plot points seemed a little out of left field or unresolved. However, the book was short and sweet and fun. Kid readers would likely enjoy, and I think this would actually be a fun book to adapt into a kids tv show. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I absolutely LOVE this book!!!! Its fun and its beautifully written. I thought this would be like the like the dragon movies, How to Train your Dragon but it wasn't. Close but not enough to day its the same. This book is so sweet and it had me on the edge of MT seat in a couple places. Children would love this series from the get go. I know I did and my son would absolutely agree with me. Must read for children who love the idea of dragons in books.
I received a free copy of the book and is voluntarily writing a review
My 10yr old son loved this dragon adventure story!
This is a brilliantly written story that really captivates kids from the first page! My son absolutely loved it. It’s the perfect length book for an early reader or as a bedtime story and even includes black and white illustrations to break up the text and make the characters come alive. We look forward to the next instalment of this page-turning adventure series in the making!
The Dragon Flyers Book 1 is an enjoyable middle school chapter book by Cynthia Star. The story is about David and his dragon, Moonlight. I thought the story had action, strong characters, and a vocabulary that was good for middle school age students. I think that both girls and boys will enjoy the story. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me review this book. The pictures of the kids with their dragons were great. Each dragon fit that kid. This was a quick read. The chapters are short so I think most kids could read this in one sitting.
Great book a quick read. A lovely book about teamwork and friendship. Just an overall great middle grade book looking forward to reading the next book and reading this one again with my little boy.
I received a Kindle copy of this book from a Goodreads Giveaway. Recently on a family weekend away, I forgot to pack a bedtime book for my 4-year-old. I decided to scan my kid's books on Kindle to see if there would be something he would enjoy. When he saw the cover of "The Dragon Flyers," he immediately asked me to read it. I was a bit unsure because we had yet to read a chapter book or one without pictures.
He absolutely loved it and asked me to read the next chapter every night. There are a few black-and-white drawings, enough to keep his attention.
The storyline was fun, interesting, and engaging for him. After he begged to start the next book. It has been a great book to transition us from picture books to chapter books.
I won this book with a Goodreads giveaway. The story and the elements are already there for lots of action and adventure. I feel the author has a lot of interesting ideas to work with.
Great Introductory Book into the Fantasy World of The Dragon Flyers!
I really enjoyed getting to know David, his dragon Moonlight, and his friends in this fantasy story. Star has done a great job world building and developing dragon mythology in this easy to read chapter book. It is sure to keep young readers eager to learn more about these mythic creatures and their brave flyers. At 61 pages, I soared through this book at the speed of a mighty dragon! I know my daughters (10 and 6) would love to go on this high-flying adventure and one day become Dragon Flyers themselves! So what dragon secrets are revealed in these pages? I highly recommend that you check this book out for yourself (or your kids) and find out! And the best part? This is a series! I can't wait to read The Dragon Flyers - Book Two: City of Dragons!
