This beautiful book deserves so very many more stars and I have no limit on how many stars to give it!!!!!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I honestly haven't any words to describe this beautiful, gorgeous, heartbreaking and heartwarming story of Christs' Love for us!!
Are you hurting? Read this book. Are you happy? Read this book. Are you struggling? Read this book. Are you depressed? Read this book. Are you satisfied with the way your life is going? Read this book. Do you have life changing decisions to make? Read this book. Are you sick, in the hospital, alone, sad, deserted, have you been let down or hurt by a family member, a friend, a co worker? Read this book. Do you read your Bible daily, like I do? Read this book. I think that you get the idea! I've read a book by this author, Max Lucacdo, earlier this year called " God Never Gives Up On You". I really loved it and learned so much from it. Well, this one is fantastic as well. It takes you on a journey from Jesus' birth, life, His ministry, family life, trial, crucifixion, resurrection, on the Road To Emmaus ( I have this amazing picture hanging in my kitchen and I absolutely love it!) in the Upper Room with His disciples and then entering into Heaven. " When two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I'll be there." ( Matthew 18:20 The Message. ) I already know the stories in this book from the Bible, church, Bible Studies and I still learned something fresh and new from this beautifully written book! It's full of gorgeous pictures, maps and illustrations to follow along with. I listened to the audiobook ( the narrator is amazing! ) as I read the physical book and received blessings upon blessings while doing so. 💜 You'll receive the same! 🙏 There's so very many quotes I could include but will end with this: Even more, God stakes his claim on us. " By his Spirit he has stamped us with his eternal pledge - a sure beginning of what he is destined to complete." ( 2 Corinthians 1:22.) Stamping declares ownership, through his Spirit, God stamps us. Would - be takers are repelled by the presence of his name. Satan is driven back by the declaration: " Hands off. This child is mine! Eternally, God." I absolutely love it! 💜
Well, I guess that I found some words after all! 😁
I really highly recommend this emotionally moving book to everyone!!!
Enjoy your New Year and may all of have a 5 shiny stars ratings on all your books this year!!! 💜✝️🕊️
The narrator for this book is the same as for the same author's They Walked with God. I thought his voice sounded familiar to me and not only was it familiar, it had the same soporific effect as when I listened to the first book. My commute is an hour, usually in the dark, one way to or from work. His voice would lull me into taking extra long blinks that if I let them, would eventually lead me to falling asleep at the wheel. So then LOUD music had to be played so I would wake back up. Also, the voice volume was inconsistent, so I had to rewind and muck about with the volume a lot. Not a good idea while driving.
PSA-don't listen to while driving in the dark or while sleepy!
The title had next to NOTHING to do with the book itself. I was expecting a travelogue of the author, superimposed over the places Jesus actually walked, with Biblical and current stories intertwined. Other than him mentioning like two Biblical places, the rest seemed to be filler that had nothing to do with the title.
Usually, the author has no say in the title/cover/blurb on their book, but this is Max Lucado we are talking about here. He's HUGE in the Christian writing world. I have been a part of "what do you think" customer surveys when the publisher was deciding on a title, subtitle and cover, but they don't give those participating in the survey the book to read and see what fits it. They give a VERY general one to two word sentence and then say "do you prefer THIS title/cover or THAT title/cover". It's multiple choice. I went with the better of the choices, but sometimes none of the choices meshed well between what they told us and what was given as options.
Long story short, they could have done better to match the title with the actual content of the book.
I also didn't appreciate the teaser of Sarah in the softball game and her predicament being just cliffhangered while he went on to link it to something else. I was so annoyed, I only listened to the following fluff with half of my attention because I felt so cheated out of the rest of the story. We DID get it, but after he nattered on about I don't remember what. To say I was annoyed is to put it mildly.
It's not a bad book, but I might have enjoyed it more if I actually read it than listening to it. I might give it another go, but I doubt it. I do like this author's work, but I think I might need to focus on the physical books rather than the audios.
3, it didn't work for me as much as I had hoped, stars.
My thanks to libro.fm and Thomas Nelson for an ALC of this book to listen to and review.

It is always a pleasant journey to take a stroll with Max Lucado in his books. I have always enjoyed how his writing leads you fall in love with Jesus all over again. This short book made me feel as if I was back in time, walking in the shadow of Christ. Great book to read before bed!
I love Max Lucado's writing. This is as good as the rest. The only reason I give it 4 not 5 stars, is that the majority of the book is bit's and pieces of his other books and there is actually very little only a few pages actually about his travels to Israel. There are some nice pictures though.
I felt like this was just okay. Granted, I jumped around in the book, reading it in conjunction with the video study series, but there wasn’t much that really stuck out to me, compared to many of the author’s other books that I have read and enjoyed.
Reading the writings of Max bring one into the lullaby of a sermon that is enjoyable and uplifting. The references to history and present day are both relevant and informative! Thank you Max! God Bless!
A wonderful way to relive memories of my trip to Israel. I loved walking with Jesus through Bethlehem, Nazareth, Galilee, Capernaum, Bethany and Jerusalem. His message and promises soothed my soul. What a savior! It served as a daily devotional, too.
Max Lucado never disappoints. This is an awesome book and Bible study!! The last two chapters made my eyes leak!! Never forget what Jesus did for you & me because He loved us so much, He died a painful death so we could live with Him in paradise. Eternal life is free. All you have to do is : COPIED: Admit -- Admit to God that you are a sinner. Repent, turning away from your sin. Believe -- Believe that Jesus Christ is God's Son and accept God's gift of forgiveness from sin. Confess -- Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
We receive Christ through personal invitation. To accept Jesus as your Savior and Lord, pray the following:
"I know I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe that you, Jesus, died for my sins. I choose to turn from my sins. I now receive you, Jesus, as my Savior and invite you to come into my heart and life. I choose to trust and follow you as my Lord. In Jesus' name. Amen"
By receiving Jesus Christ, you are born again into God's family. You can be sure of eternal life with God because He has promised it!
Now, as a child of God:
"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness." Colossians 2:6-7
How? Read, study and learn His Word. Find a church that believes and teaches the entire Word of God. (Pay special attention to its statement of faith. It should cover these topics.) Spend time in prayer, talking with the Lord God. Spend time with other believers.
I've always loved Max Lucado and he's one of my go-to authors for non-fiction. I don't know if I didn't read this at quite the right time, if I was expecting something different, or if this one just wasn't on par with his other works, but this was definitely not my favorite of his. I did still enjoy the book, and he made some excellent points, but they seemed few and far between in this one. Each chapter felt like its own mini-book with no over-arching theme. Still good in their own right, but felt a bit disjointed. Also, not sure if it's because I read the kindle version instead of the hard copy, but the "beautiful pictures" in the descriptor were non-existent. There were topographical maps at the beginning of each section, but that was it as far as pictures go. Because I've come to expect so much from this author, this good book is garnering not great comments from me, but it's still a solid 4-star read. All in all, an enjoyable read by one of my favorite pastor-authors, and one that still packs a punch, but not as much as most of his other works.
We selected In the Footsteps of the Savior for our recent study and although the books was wonderful, it did not mesh up with the study guide at all. I was extremely disappointed in that, as I had purchased the study guide to write in. Max Lucado is one of my favorite Christian authors and study leaders and this book had some great scripture references, insights and stories. Max used his trip to the Holy Land to enhance the discussions. Although a lot of this book was related to things from his previous books, there was enough to get great discussions going and had me reflecting. As another reviewer mentioned, it made us fall in love with Jesus all over again.
A book that weaves gospel accounts into the geography and traditions of the bible land; a gently written book that calls us to look at Christ and his time on earth .
Essays which reminds that Christ the Son was son indeed - having “eyes wide with a stupor of fear “ ( ref Mark 14:33 NEB) . Jesus - walking through Galilee, Gethsemane and Golgotha not as a marvel super hero but a man with flesh , blood and tears .
Wish that the peaceful essays in this book becomes reality in the very land that is now being torn apart buy wars and countless / needless deaths on both sides of the political divide .
How to ? Think about the high school base ball player who tore her ACL!
Max Lucado is an excellent writer. I have never read one of his books that I didn’t marvel at his thought processes. Once again he brings scripture to life bringing up questions I would have never thought of on my own to explore, and telling the stories of the Bible in a real and impactful way. I will never look at the story of the loaves and fishes again without seeing it through the young boys eyes. We did the videos and study guide that go along with this book for our adult Sunday School class and highly recommend it.
Given the title of this short book, I was expecting a study of the geography and culture and customs of the Holy Land where the earthly life of Jesus took place. I was disappointed to find that Lucado did very little with the places where Jesus walked. He employed some word studies that gave greater meaning to the text but more often he slipped into preaching. While that is valuable, it was not what I expected based on the title. Often he tries to make points out of things that the text did not say. Speculation is not a good foundation for theology.
I absolutely love Max Lucado. I read just about everything he writes. However, I was disappointed in this book. As another reviewer has already stated, it's just bits and pieces of his other books. I had hoped for an in-depth look at his travels in Israel paralleled with the life of Jesus. It just wasn't what I thought it was going to be. More of a devotional. I think it will be a wonderful read for those less familiar with his other work. It will help someone. Just not for me.
Remarkable journey. As only Max can, he guides us in getting to know our Savior more personally as Jesus lives out His ministry. This is a dog-eared, highlighted book that I will revisit many times. Max is insightful and in tune with the human condition. The questioning format engages the reader and guides our discovery. Read this book and enjoy Max’s teaching and your Savior’s desire to know you and be in relationship with you.
What a great experience, Max took us on a journey through Nazareth,Galilee, Bethany, Jerusalem. Inspirational travelogue for the soul. In this book Max guides you through three aspects of Jesus’ life: his arrival, his ministry, and his death and resurrection. You’ll see with new eyes , God’s heart for people and his deep love for all of us. It actually fell like being there. Excellent book.
I did this with a group of friends for a Bible Study and enjoyed it very much. We watched the video along with it and this was amazing too. The book has beautiful pictures of the Holy land in it, and he uses those to bring us closer to Jesus and what God wants to remind us. This book follows Jesus when he was in the Holy Land and helps us to learn the lessons he was teaching his disciples.
Max Lucado does an excellent job telling the story of Jesus by focusing on the different locations where he lived and ministered. I chose to read this as I am preparing for an upcoming trip to the Holy Land. I truly worshiped while reading this book and while considering the questions that Lucado includes to help readers become more Christ like.
A Bible study that can be used for individual or group study. The unique aspect is that it contains maps and information that allows you to geographically follow Jesus in key moments of his ministry. Max Lucado is at his usual brilliant self in style and prose. Highly recommended for the Lucado fan or a first timer.
Lucado is a wonderful author and Biblical speaker. His stories bring the Bible to life and make it relevant to me and to today's world. This was a great study in preparation for Holy Week and the Easter celebration. Highly recommend any of his books!
I’ve just concluded a six week online study with this book covering three distinct aspect of Jesus’ life: his arrival, his ministry on earth, and his death and resurrection. Throughout, I was reminded of His deep love for me.
This is a great read right before Easter. It is helpful for me to have the visuals of the places it took place at. It gives me "a place" to go to where I know I can find peace and hope. It helped me realize with my whole heart that the promise has been fulfilled and that truth truly sets us free.
Max Lucado's story of Christ from birth to the risen Savior is written in such a way that you feel you are there, and closer to God in the end. Highly recommend.
I expected this book to be more a tour of Israel through the life of Jesus. This was more a devotional type book going through the main events of Jesus life, and then the application of the stories to our own lives. It was well done for what it actually was.
Read the book while watching video and using leader guide. They really didn't sync up that well. Also, it did not really feel like the title was a good one. Not as much about where Christ walked as about people who don't know Jesus or doubt Jesus, etc
Excellent. Max Lucado is certainly a word-wizard when it comes to mining the depths of the Bible. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one and recommend it to everyone who wants to strengthen their understanding of Scripture.
I read Lucado's book in conjunction with the videos in my small group Bible study. This book is a reminder of the basic fundamentals of Christianity, and inspires a healthy examination of personal beliefs and how we are applying our faith to our own individual life challenges.
Every time I read books written by Max I always learn new things and it really changes my heart. Jesus really suffered for me and each person born. May I not forget the price He paid for us since it gives us access to the Father. Highly recommend this book.
