USA Today bestselling author Helen Scott spends her time alternating between fantasy and reality. She likes to think she’d be sorted into Hufflepuff and would have been a Physical Kid from Brakebills. Her days are fueled by tea and cuddles from her four-legged kids and amazing husband in their home in the Chicago suburbs.
When not reading or writing, Helen can be found baking, enjoying a walk in the woods, crafting, or playing video games. She’s a lover of sushi and K-Dramas and is convinced there is magic in the world if you know where to look.
Whether paranormal or contemporary, Helen loves writing sassy, kick-butt heroines and drool-worthy love interests. She's the author of the House of Wolves and Magic series, the Cerberus series, and the Of Demons and Dragons series.
Ruined Dynasty is a satisfying conclusion to our bloody princess's story, but it does not end in a happy ever after like most stories do, not in the traditional sense. Sure Lyric finally gets the revenge she had worked so hard for, and yeah she gets to live an unfettered life with the boys, but there are a few loose threads that I'm hoping will be wrapped up in Melody's series (or another spin off??? 🤔).
I'm gonna miss these characters, but overall I'm happy with how Lyric's story ended!
Wow…my mind is whirling. I am happy with the whole Sweetest Revenge series, sad that it came to an end (with the majority of the conflicts wrapped up), and excited to see what happens with the loose ends that is coming up in other books, Dark Knight (Evie’s story) and Cruel Kiss/ Savage Hate, (sorry…on Amazon it’s Cruel Kiss and Goodreads it’s Savage Hate) (Melody’s story) which I am seriously hoping will be part of two new series (I know one is for sure the Sinner’s Secret series with Cruel Kiss as the first book and will be all about Lyrics’ sister, Melody!!). Back to Ruined Dynasty is filled with lots of what readers can expect from the Sweetest Revenge series but it also has some surprises that readers might not expect and I am so here for it all!! Lots of drama, angst, secrets, surprises, revelations, feels, heat, and so much more. I highly recommend Ruined Dynasty, Sweetest Revenge series, and Zoey Shelby And Helen Scott as authors. Both Helen Scott and Zoey Shelby are writers who have quickly become favorites. I have not been disappointed with any of the books they have written together or apart. I have to say I am very glad that Cruel Kiss will be out very soon. Can’t wait to see what happens to Melody! Happy reading!!
Oh My Freak’n Gosh!!! What a freak’n roller coaster ride!! This was such an amazing book!!
I freak’n love lyric!! Her character is bad@$$!! She’s so strong & just amazing!! Then there’s Jude, Thayer, Atlas, & Keats!! 🥵🔥 Love them all!! I love how their characters grow through out the series💕🖤
I love how lyric’s story ended even though there were just a few loose ends that just keep you wanting more… like wanting to know what happens in Evie’s story & also what happens in Melody’s story!! Oh my gosh I can’t wait for those books to come out!! I absolutely love this series!!💜🖤
“This book was given to me in exchange for my honest review."
I've wasted so much times on this series and i dont even know why i did that. All of this could've been summed up in two books but Helen dragged it to five. The ending was underwhelming, to say the least. i'm just so glad to be done with this series
3.5 I had a lot higher hopes for this series than I feel it delivered on. Given that amazing yet simple cover for book one I expected things and characters to be darker and deadlier. Sure we get some of that but it’s overshadowed by all the unnecessary female drama, fighting and cattiness combined with the ridiculous amount of partying and hazing going on. I’m not a fan that one of two offshoot series planned for side characters, will detail a certain characters’ whereabouts based on a storyline that begins in this series here in book four only to go completely unsolved and unresolved in this final book. Why not end this book that way? Just really took away a lot from the ending when I should have been cheering that everyone (mostly) was still alive. It’s annoying the shit Lyric goes through in every book for this sorority for absolutely no good reason. There’s being close to your lost loved one and then there’s being treated worse than shit all to join some fake ass family that cares more about looks and status than who you are smh. I’m glad Lyric is able to get a handle on her biggest bully but its total bills hit that she put up with all that and even more confounding as to why given she’s a cold blooded trained killer!! There’s also a lot more in the ‘real world/bigger picture’ that leaves an unclear picture as to where Lyric and her men stand in their world and will over time. When there’s hierarchies and families like this, everyone is one assassination away from death. I’m guessing and hoping that we’d at least get to see some of these characters years down the road in the other offshoot books. I know Lyric will certainly be in these characters lives but when they’ll meet again and what the circumstances will be remains left for another day…..
As you might have noticed: I rarely read a book without magic. I prefer that touch of wonder, that bit of impossibility, the promise that there might be that little bit more and I only need to find it. However, for this series I made an exception. Especially because I really loved the sort of murder mystery element in the series. I was therefore quite happy when my arc from this last book came in and I could see how everything would come together.
The first books in this series were quite intense and we've learned that those characters, and especially our heroine, had been through a lot of heavy stuff. There are a lot of trigger warnings in this book and that has a reason. However, since this is the series finale, the one where the characters get their happy ending and things are solved or coming together, this book was incredibly satisfying, despite all the gruesome scenes in it.
A lot of loose ends are tied up in this book, we get a glimpse of the future happily ever after and it feels like especially our heroine's journey is quite clearly, and finally for her, over. However, the authors clearly leave two back doors open and promise us at least two more stories set in this world! And since both those stories sound really interesting and since I've fallen in love with the writing styles of these authors I will for sure read them both.
One of the things, when it comes to that writing style, I love about these authors is that they never forget the traumas our characters have. They are strong, they have been forced to be strong, but at times they do break and can break. We see those strong violence machines cry and beg for help and in a way that's somehow empowering. Even the fiercest, harshest and most dangerous characters are deep down simply human.
Great ending to an amazing series. This whole series has been a 5 star read for me and this book was almost there but not quite. I have to say I was alittle let down they didn't find Evie but I guess that's where her book will come in. Not only that but the first 4 books seemed all about the sorority and the Regent but in this book it was hardly ever mentioned and when it was it was hardly anything to even worry about considering how talked up they were. I hated to see this end but am very curious to see what happens for Evie. Also I have to say I'm alittle disappointed on how easy Mel got off. She should of been begging for her life and not just given to Dante to where she will eventually get a hea. At the very least she should of got cut up a bit. Lol. But all in all this was an amazing series!
Lyric and her guys finally get the revenge they have been craving. This is the perfect ending to this story arc. I say that because I am hoping there will be one with Melody and that we will find out what happened to the roommate. I am not ready to completely let these characters go, so I am hopeful we will see more of them at some point.
Lyric finaly get to any end. It's not what I was expecting, still it is an ending, She gets what She wants and Almost everything get its due. But I think there is space for something more. Maybe melody's story? It is a great series and we definetly get a lot os heat and figth.
Fue súper predecible y no pasó mucho hasta los últimos capítulos. La escritura y los personajes aquí fueron, en el mejor de los casos, mediocres. Honestamente, se perdió el hilo en los libros anteriores.
It seemed as if each subsequent novel in this series became more sloppy. This last book was the worst with so many typos, rushed scenes, and unbelievable progress. I rolled my eyes more times in this book than I have ever. But here's the thing, normally I would have put it down and never finished. However, I did finish because the authors set up the characters extremely well in the beginning that it made it hard to shove this story away. So authors, you have talent but your rushed ending to this series made me not want to get the next two Evie/Melody stories. And really, there's two of you...how did so many mistakes get past you???
What happened? The series started of so good and then just slowly got worse. It was hard to finish. The book needs more editing and what is with the inconsistencies?
TBH this one was such a trainwreck 😳 From the first to the last book wth happened? The way it all played out from the way it started just didn’t make sense! And Too much was happening that they couldn’t keep up with all the different storylines. It’s a shame!
Loved how everything solved itself in the end. I was kind of hoping that Dante would be added, but I think I gave too much hope for that. I don't know if I can tonie to read Melody's story given how she was in this series. However, I will say that I'm hoping Evie gets her own.
A bittersweet HFN after a long bloody road. I loved the epilogue and the long healing that Lyric was able to go through, thanks to her 4 kings.
Lyric was strong and a force to be reckoned with , throughout the series. She was forced from inferno and nothing could faze her from her ultimate goal. I love her, adore her and absolutely respect this beautiful broken queen.
The four guys were amazing in their own right too, it took time to warm up to Jude because of his assholish way of treating Lyric(though she gave it back in spades to him whenever it was possible). I was angry and dissapointed with how they treated Alyssa , especially Jude but damn his guilt and tears when he understood the enormity of his last fuckup with her, I couldn't manage to keep my anger.
I loved and swooned with how much they worshipped and loved their queen, how protective and supportive they were (Atlas and Keats from around the end of book 1, Thayer from around book 2 and Jude from around the end of book 3). The way they handled the men who all had a hand in scarring Lyric's childhood was awe worthy, though I would have loved a more elaborate and descriptive way of what they did with them.
Samson and Simon got their deserving end and I absolutely loved witnessing their demise.
This whole series successfully managed to put my soul through a freaking wringer and though at times I was infuriated (especially during the whole trials of PiEp sorority where Lyric behaved as a meek docile girl when she was anything but that), there were also times that I immensely enjoyed it loved, be it her beautiful rapport with Atlas and Keats, Thayer and his concern towards Lyric even when he hadn't identified his attraction towards her to Lyric always knowingly or unknowingly successfully taking down Jude a peg or two.
I loved the sex scenes that happened throughout the series, especially when there was a threesome or group sex and how beautifully our queen submitted to Jude's dominance.
I am curious about the whole Dante and Melody storyline but it's Evie's story that I am desperately waiting for, I adored that girl and I wish she finally becomes the badass self she was destined for.
This masterpiece of a book will always have a special place in my heart and undoubtedly I will certainly read this series again and again just to read about one of most favorite FMC and her amazing beautiful trope of strong, capable, badass men❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ok finally the conclusion. Overall thoughts on the entire series- not bad. On this book alone I wasn’t crazy about adding in yet more drama with Dante trying to blackmail Lyric into marriage, that in the end served no purpose because he ended agreeing to marry Melody. I get it set up so they have their story, but it could’ve been done without the blackmailing of Lyric. I really didn’t like her when Dante told her the deal and she accepted his terms. My heart broke for her guys. They all just sat there watching her agree to marry Dante and never considered how bad it was hurting them. It was all about her and what she wanted, what she worked for and she just hoped the guys would understand and stick around. I wanted to destroy my phone out of frustration and jump in and just smack her. If I was the guys I would’ve walked out and said see ya. There were several things that were never resolved and basically served no purpose to the storyline. First, like I mentioned in my review for book 4, the bug’s Lyrics planted in the guys rooms were never brought up, second, the whole Regents thing was a waste because that storyline was dropped and basically so was the whole sorority thing. And I was hoping and expecting for Lyric to have found out about Melody trying to blackmail Jude, but he never told her and she never confronted him about Melody telling her that she knew about Jude being contracted to marry someone. I kinda figured that the person he was contracted to would end up being Lyric, but having them discuss the issues Melody caused would’ve been nice. Overall not a bad series, the bullying was intense and I love a really good and mean bully. But the stuff Rachel pulled kinda pushed the line for me, and the fact she was never dealt with was another let down. Lyric deserved to get her revenge on Rachel too. But the meanness and hatred Jude had for Lyric didn’t bother. I actually thought it was a great representation of a great bully mmc. But I definitely could’ve done without the girlfriends two of the guys had in the first couple books. That’s one thing I do not like or want to see in books- especially the guys actually f’ing the other girls on page.
First of all, I don’t like Jude I really tried but I can’t. He steals everything to Lyric. She never had control over her body and her life and now that she has, he want to dominate her after everything she went through and what he done and said ?🤨 I wanted a badass Lyric just like with the others. She is in charge and in control now so let her be !. I thought I had finally find a book where the MMC is not dominant over the FMC… I can’t remember every scene but if you have read the book you will know what I’m meaning here. He is such a baby and complain about his life even when he know what HER life was like ? so now he want to broke her, she is already broken bro, he sound so like « I’m the only one who can hurt her » fuck off really he is so ridiculous. And when they have sex she call him « Sir » noo I can’t, this was really the top. Since the beginning he had no reason to hate her . And now she is so angry after the footage and want revenge over Lyssa’s murder and he try to calm her with « bad girl » and she said « blablabla. Sir » Again?!!! No that’s too much. I was so disappointed… He said she want to be in control and he get that but he will push her to her limit, Broooo, it’s the same thing with you ! Why she have to let you take control but no you ?🤨 I really really loveeee Keats and Atlas. Keats has my heart on so many level! Thayer and Lyric has no real relationships… Just the sex so that’s a shame.. but event that is okay. Also, there was tension with Dante and Lyric and I really really hoped that they will develop a love story just like marriage arrangement, because the potential was there !! I was waiting for it so much. And I really liked him even more then Jude 😭😭 but even then there is a contract between him and lyric !!!! So angry and frustrated !! I will continue to read and update my comment but I wanted to write this because I was so angry… I would like to said that this is my opinion! If you like all of that it’s okay, I like it too but in this book I think it wasn't appropriate and that it didn't fit with the story
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
We’ve made it to book 5, hold onto your butts cause it’s a wild ride! I loved this series from the start, murder mystery is one of my favorite things to read about. So the fact that Lyric was going through everything and at the school to discover her eldest sisters murder. Which lead to a secret society, and than all the trauma that Lyric dealt with. Not to mention what all the guys have gone through.
Regardless that this is book 5, we unpack A LOT more secrets, and the guys also learn more about what exactly her father & Sampson have put her through. Witnessing Lyrics struggles while she was dealing with her traumatic past as well as beginning to have a normal life.
The guys, oh my gosh, do these guys own my heart. And I’ll tell you from the jump, I was not a fan of Jude, like at all. Thayer, Atlas & Keats all had me by book 2 maybe 3, but Jude, he won me in this one.
If you’ve been waiting to start this series when the last book came out, start now! It won’t disappoint. I loved the style that both of these authors wrote, and they don’t ever forget that the MCs had/have pasts (traumatic or otherwise). I also didn’t mind that they left the doors open for future books! It was very much a HEA/HFN ending, I do want to see what happens after that last chapter… 🤩
What I loved: The Revenge! Chapter 23 🥵 Banter between the guys 🥵🥵 talk How much more protective the guys have gotten All the while empowering Lyric & letting her sort herself out without pressure The secrets revealed OH MY GOSH! Character growth for all of our main peoples
I can’t wait to read Evie & Melody’s stories, I am sure they’re going to be a lot!
Definitely check the TW/CW before diving in, they tend to lean heavier in this book.
I’ve only reviewed a couple of these books so far because of various issues and that hasn’t changed.
Lyric still acts different to how she should, especially with the training she’s received since childhood.
The relationship was sort of flat for me. Aside from with Jude, there was never really any tension.
In that same vain, there is literally no sense of urgency ever! Not even when Evie was taken by Sampson. Sorry Evie, but being initiated into a sorority that hates Lyric was way more important than.
Then all the inconsistencies! She suspected Jude was the singer in book 3, and Paige confirmed it in the last book. And yet somehow she still doesn’t know? Come on. Not to mention she saw all the guitars in his room when she planted the bug but was surprised that he played? What!?!?
The most glaring issue that became apparent from book 2, was the total lack of editing and continuity. When did Keats dad die? Suddenly he’s just dead but we never saw that even though the main characters were supposed to have done it.
The authors even mixed up the male characters a number of times from one paragraph to the next. Sometimes 2 authors works, in this case it didn’t! It’s like they worked separately on various scenes, chapters, or even sentences but never bothered to ensure that it all matched and flowed.
Super disappointed that it’s left open for a series featuring Evie. That’s just a big FU to all the readers and frankly, cheap. I’m glad this was KU because I definitely wouldn’t have spent money on it.
Fantastic Finale 💝 Honestly it really is the sweetest revenge for lyric in this last book of the series, me what’s even sweeter is the support she has in getting it! The academy and Regents side of things kind of fall away in this last book giving way to greater concerns such as Lyric ridding herself of those hanging over her from the past 👏🏻💪🏻👏🏻 not only that but the Boys of Ascendance Bay also have things to take care of if they want to get out from under their families thumbs 😬 I also love how these boys really show their protective sides in this one, creating their own deals to bring what they know will be closure for Lyric for some of her nightmares…….and oooooh boy do their obsessive possessive sides come out after certain deals are offered 🥰🥰 Lyric finally gets her answers regarding Lyssas death and who was involved, but it actually reveals more destructive secrets and lies that might just break the Sterling family 😬 After all Lyric has gone through and survived, will Samsons latest actions be the ones to inevitably break her?! 😡😢 Lyrics inner strength really comes through in this one with some awful decisions that show she truly maintained her compassion and kind nature that the boys just want to nurture! There is a lot going on in this book with fast pacing so buckle up and get ready for the ride….with a well deserved and beautiful HEA for Lyric, Keats (mine), Jude, Atlas and Thayer 😁
I’m still trying to process. This is not the typical finale, tying up loose ends and giving us the satisfaction of seeing all of the strings woven previously in the set tied together in a perfect bow. This book is a reaping of revenge with blood and steam and heartache. This book is a stepping stone to more, and while we get the main characters all wrapped up, there are two big loose ends that aren’t completely tied by the end and really left me feeling more anxious and bereft than satisfied with the ending. This is the most cliffhanger finale, but in the best way. Like I said, the main characters get their primary issues resolved, and it seems what is left will be spun into two other series. I like that we will be getting more from this world, and I can’t wait to read the other perspectives. I have just as much anticipation for the next series that I did for this book, which is rare and shows how thoroughly the authors are able to pull readers into this world. As far as steam goes, we get some amazing scenes. The knowledge in the torture scenes is so detailed, I’m torn between being awed and worried for the authors haha. Definitely an amazing dark romance read - just go in knowing that you’ll have to be patient for all of the answers, they aren’t all in this book.
Okay so this series was soooo freaking good! I couldn’t put it down at all! I binged it sooo hard I barely got any sleep at all lol. I loved Lyric soo freaking much her stabby tendencies and her overall badass personality were just perfect. She was snarky & strong & dang could she handle herself & her men. I swooned soo hard during this series and it really had me enraptured the whole freaking time ! Now spoilers!!
Spoilers!!!!! 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨
God I hated Melody from the beginning ! I honestly knew something was off with her the whole time, especially with her snark and the way she acted towards Lyric. I didn’t fully suspect she killed her sister buuuttt I didn’t put it past her. Like yeah her life was bad sorta but to kill your sister for power ? And bc you didn’t want to go back to a school that was bad ? Cmon if your dad sent you there how could you not think he was doing worse to your sister. Like she told you when yall were kids about Sampson and you still chose to be awful. She always seemed jelly to me but hey she got what she deserved in the end. I won’t read her story bc I’d rather think she got a ruthless hubby that was mean to her personally. Though I doubt it bc Dante seemed to be a morally gray kind of guy ugh.
Lyric, the last surviving Sterling child, is spiraling out of control emotionally after finding out that her childhood tormentor has taken the one friend that she has ever had and her relationship with all the Boys of Ascendance Bay does not seem permanent to her leaving her conflicted about the future. As the story progresses revenge is extracted slowly, the road she follows is not toll free, and she may not survive the fallout to be put back together wholly. Helen Scott and Zoey Shelby took me to of the edge of the abyss in Ruined Dynasty. The reader is right there with Lyric and her men as all the secrets are revealed, cementing her revenge plans for the perpetrators. This last book does give the harem members a somewhat happy ending, but there are some things that just can’t be resolved and we all know that there is no such thing as a perfect life, just as close to perfect as possible. Reader discretion advised due to dark subject matter and/or possible triggers.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
This entire series has been a whirlwind, this is the final book in Lryic’s story and while I am satisfied with how it ended, It is definitely not concluded. Lyric does get her happy ending in the sense that she is with her men and she has sought out her revenge, but her bestie is still missing and I am curious to read the next instalment / spin off to see what happens to her! Over all though, this series has been amazing. The characters are well developed, the plot is thick, the spice is spicy and the action and mystery is anxiety inducing! The twist and turns had me at the edge of my seat and I just loved how unpredictable the story was! Just when you thought you had something figured out, you were flipped upside down!! I loved the emotional rollercoaster this series took me on! The relationships between Lyric and her men throughout this journey has been such a thrill to watch develop. They made me want to laugh, cry and shout. They were created so well, with diverse personalities and depth. This is a well paced, well written series that got better and more intense with each book.
What a BRILLIANT and adrenaline laced conclusion to this heart pounding series!!! Sit back, grab a drink and get ready for one heck of a ride folks. There's lots of violence, blood, retribution, come to Jesus moments, sexy time, surprises, heartbreak, healing and more within these pages. You will feel the *entire* range of emotions... unless you are a robot that is 😉. Lyric and her guys have come a long way from the start of this series...and I pity the fool that tries to come between them now. I could not put this gem down from the moment I started reading. Although this was the conclusion to Lyrics story, I'm hoping she *may* pop up again- as her roomie Evie is next up with her own series 😁❤. Through the darkness that Lyric endured time and time again....a glimmer of light found its way. Take the journey through the blood and mayhem, treachery and heartache.... Watch as this fierce, brave, resilient female proves why she's a warrior and a female of worth. Such an epic series!!! Bravo!!
Sweetest Revenge series concludes with book 5. The emotional rollercoaster ride continues as the twists, torture, steam, and secrets get revealed. I love these characters and hate to see the series end. Lyric finally founds out what happened to Alyssa and deals with her father. Lyric and her guys have been through a lot and they have grown as individuals and as a group. Love all her guys, I do but Jude is my favorite. He started out as a jerk but he endeared himself in the end. This whole series has had me on the edge of my seat as questions get answers but not all the loose ends get tied up. Evie being one, it’s left open. The ending was great but it seems more of a HFN kind of ending. Hoping to see more of Lyric, Jude, Keats, Atlas, and Thayer in other stories. Heard from a little birdie that Melody was getting her own story. Still don’t like her but who knows maybe that will change when I read her book. If you haven’t started this series yet what are you waiting for? It soooooooooooo good. Highly recommend.
