One man on a journey of redemption and the other out to prove himself.
Cohen “Ace” Gray – Pegasus Commander. He’d buried one lover; he wasn’t going to take the chance of that ever happening again. Ace had his own demons to work on, but working closely with Jacob and having his friendship— despite their twenty-year age difference—had made life a bit easier. The void that Jacob left ate at him and burned into his brain, making him think that he might have made the biggest mistake of his life turning Jacob away.
Jacob Burns – Techie specialist, skilled in combat, expert at weapons. He never dreamed it would be this hard to cut the apron strings from his three dads. He got it. They lived a brutal life and dealt with the scum that hovered in the darkest part of society. What they didn’t fully understand was that he’d watched and learned from them, and he would leave his mark on this world. Ace and his dads thought he didn’t have what it took to be an operative.
They were so damned wrong.
One job. One chance encounter. When an unexpected meeting happens, both men are left stunned.
Reese Knightley spends her time creating stories from the characters rattling around in her head. Her love of reading mystery, action and adventure, and fantasy books led to her love of writing. Reese works as a full time writer. She loves to hear from her readers.
I really liked this latest instalment in the Operation Justice Force series.
Age gap romances are among my favourite tropes and there was a doozy here, with 20 years between Ace and Jacob.
Of course, Jacob's been around for a long time, the nephew and adopted son of Roscoe Burns and his two husbands Storm and Wild, but Ace still treats him like a fragile flower instead of the highly trained operative that he is.
When things reach breaking point, Jacob leaves and joins up with Seven for some off the books investigation which, of course, ends up with the team in trouble due to a double cross!
I liked that, while this one had all the usual action, it wasn't a ridiculously overpowered situation that involved the typical multiple deaths without repercussions.
One thing I wasn't happy about though is all the sexual intimacy happens off page, we don't even get fade to black.
Given the spice in previous books, I can't understand why we didn't get anything here, especially after the years of pining we've seen in the previous books.
Very disappointing to say the least.
Otherwise, this was definitely a favourite one out of all the interconnected series'.
Sooo about this book, some things have to be said.
First of all, I need a list with all the names of these men and what they do/did. Because after 4 months that I finished the last book from the series, I couldn't even remember who Fisher or Creed were.
Second I need a book for Eagle and Link, it can be just they watching movies, I don't care. They're eveything.
And finally about the book, I have to say that I really enjoyed the story, mainly because I wasn't expecting a huge character development about Ace's traumas or anything else. So the author made me happy with what she gave me.
But there is an issue that made me take 1 stars from my final rating: - The beggining of this book is SO CONFUSING. Nothing really happens, just spans of time, were once Ace is mourning his ex, next he is being shot and after that Jacob is kissing him. I was just "someone please explain something to me". But after 25% of the book, things got better.
But apart for everything, it was a good reading and I'm excited to Hunter and Seven story.
Absolutely worth the wait, but at the same time I'm a bit unsure if I really liked Rebel as much as I think I did or if the book three was just that bad that I'm overly happy with this.
I love long series and big universes in MM romance, but I have to admit this cast of characters is starting to get a bit too big to keep up with. There are dozens of men and most of them have at least two names they go by. I'm also confused about the timeline, in which year are we in and how is Jacob 22? Rampage was published in 2019 and Jacob was 16 at the time, wasn't he?
Finally. We finally get Ace's and Jacob's story and it does not disappoint. Lots of angst and drama, but also plenty of action and scorching hot scenes. Lots of Phoenix operatives in this one (I'm assuming there's a prior series).
KU, contemporary, book in a series, age gap, military men, action, mystery, death of a side character
Contains: boss/employee, age-gap, muscle men, chemistry so hot, some hell of a teams, guns, explosive, action, intrigue, wounds, fast pace, dual pov, hfn.
YOU WANT MORE???
A young adult who needs to excel without being overprotected. A boss who is afraid to put the love of his life in danger and then lose everything.
Will they have a future with all their challenges ahead of them? Can they overcome their problems and open up to each other? Can they trust each other?
~~ I don’t know any souls on earth who are a better match than we are.”~~
The sparks flies from page 1, the chemistry is so hot for those two. Of course it start with the same heartbreak from the previous book. Probably to make sure it can be read as a standalone. Of course, It can be read as a standalone, but it's so much more enjoyable when your favorite characters from previous series come along for the ride. So yeah, Jacob makes my heart bleed from the start. He is so misunderstood.
At first, the multitude of investigations could lead to confusion, but we soon find ourselves understanding where the real drama is happening... in Ace and Jacob relationship.
When Jacob fails to get his way, he decides to take his future into his own hands and joins another team. Risky, dangerous, will his new team have his back? We'll see.
Ace is finally determine to win the man, but the man is always disappearing on some mystery job if not they are interrupting by some gun shooting problem.
Dive into this book and discover or rediscover an all nice sweet sexy muscle men in tactic gear and weapons. Sweet characters who feed on adrenaline. You can always play detective and try to find the bad guy, but seriously this one is more than unpredictable. Reese takes us to a new level of surprise and unpredictability. My eyes bug out of my head at multiple times. I couldn't believe it myself.
As always, as soon as I close the book, I'm already hoping to have the next one in hand. I don't know how she do it, but I cannot wait for the next one and the next one and the next one. We always fell in love with all the characters and now, more than ever, I want to know all of their stories.
Reese's books are HIGHLY RECCOMENDED to anyone who enjoys action-packed, investigating, friendship-filled, camaraderie, adrenaline-filled stories at a fast pace that take us on a race to the action. HEA Guaranteed.
romance overpowered by other storylines and characters
Rating: 3.25🌈
I was expecting much more from this story because it was the long anticipated romance of Cohen “Ace” Gray , leader of Pegasus, and Jacob Burns , the Pegasus Tech specialist and son of the men who formed Phoenix.
There was a lot to unpack emotionally between them. A big age difference, Jacob’s dad’s feelings about his future, stubbornness, arguments. Plus there’s history, some hidden and others riddled with fear and injuries layered on top of each other to form barriers against any romantic relationship.
All those elements make for a terrific romance. But here it’s delegated to almost secondary status next to a poorly crafted suspense/action storyline with Seven . That escalates and spins off into other minor threads with more characters (CIA, Pegasus, anonymous teams, agencies) with tons of shooting, a few explosions, bad guys, new characters, more characters. Then a moment or two when the shaky path to a romance gets picked up and immediately dropped for more espionage, more murky type shootouts and well , you get my drift.
If Rebel was one of those big all star action movies, you could go get a beverage of choice, some popcorn, come back to find , while the movie has progressed, the narrative is basically the same.
It’s too many characters (Including teams/couples from the Phoenix series) that make one dimensional appearances. Too many plots that have no depth or explanation that makes them especially believable. We get no foundation here for anything that would make us commit emotionally to the “high stakes” action that’s constantly happening.
Even Jacob who has a good argument stating his fathers and Ace treat him like a youngster because of his age, then proceeds to undermine his own stand by putting those around him in danger by using poor judgment in order to prove himself because. Young. SMH.
Knightley wants us to support him. Really? Those last actions are of a boy scout with street cred who’s not thinking clearly but rage and action.
In the end, it was popcorn entertainment. Taken at surface value, easy to enjoy, easy to move past.
I hope Hunter and Seven’s story has greater attention to detail and their relationship then this did. They figured in here as much as Ace and Jacob.
It's really starting to come together in this Operation Justice Force series. Out for Justice's second spinoff, OJF, is a whoop-ass series packed with badass alpha males. Two black ops teams, Phoenix and Pegasus, are led by exceptionally gifted former agents and members of the special forces. The majority of the group is partnered, and each book shows one of those couples achieving HEA. But the Ace/Jacob plot has persisted throughout the entire show. The three fathers of Jacob run Phoenix. He learned warrior techniques from his fathers and their operatives as a child. He is also an expert hacker and techie. He accepts a position as computer support with Pegasus in an effort to escape his overbearing fathers, but he quickly develops feelings for Ace, the company's CEO. Twenty years older than Jacob and the Pegasus Commander Cohen "Ace" Gray, who has already laid to rest one young lover who was a victim of a plot to get to Ace. Jacob is rejected by him since he is too inexperienced and young, not to mention that he is the son of three men who would definitely kill him if he touched their kid. Jacob, who is 22 years old, wants to succeed in the field but Ace won't send him. His parents send him on a backpacking vacation through Europe to keep him away from their jobs, but he rebels and finds a job working high-risk right once when he gets back to the US. He hadn't intended to run across Ace one evening while working, and the two of them were left stunned. It's a bumpy journey to their happy ending, but when a terrorist kidnaps Jacob, Ace and his dads will set the world on fire to rescue him.
This Operation Justice Force series is really coming together. OJF is the second spinoff series from her original Out for Justice, full of bad-ass alpha men and whoop ass. Phoenix and Pegasus, two black ops organizations of ex-special forces and other super talented former agents and such under one leader. Most of the outfit is coupled up and each book features one of those couples getting their HEA. But the Ace/Jacob storyline has been carrying through the whole series. Jacob's three fathers run Phoenix. He grew up learning warrior skills from his dads and their operatives. He's also a tech whiz and hacker. Taking a job as tech support with Pegasus in a move to get away from his overprotective fathers, he falls hard for his boss Ace. Cohen “Ace” Gray – Pegasus Commander and 20 years older than Jacob, has already buried one young lover -an innocent targeted to get to Ace. He rebuffs Jacob as being too young and too inexperienced, not to mention the son of three men who would probably kill him for touching their boy. A 22, Jacob wants to prove himself in the field but Ace refuses to send him out. When his dads send him on a backpacking trip in Europe to get him away from their work, he rebels and gets a job in the field with another group and is right back in the US working high risk. . Running into Ace one night on the job was not something he had planned on and both left reeling. It's a rocky road to their HEA but when Jacob is captured by a terrorist, Ace and his dads will burn down the world to get him back.
After finishing Honor, I knew I wanted to dive right into Ace and Jacob’s story and thanks to Tantor, I did just that. There was SO much I wanted to know about these two after the hints in Honor. Let me just say, this book did not disappoint. While the tension between Ace and Jacob runs hot, they both struggled so much to find a way forward. Ace’s past haunts him and leaves him emotionally cut off while Jacob fights to come into his own and out from his fathers’ shadows. While both men love each other deeply, it never seems to be their time. Rebel begins with the men apart. Ace pushed Jacob away so Jacob left Pegasus and Ace behind.
Ace and Jacob were a team who worked seamlessly together to lead the guys of Pegasus on their missions. After a bombing left them both injured and their feelings for one another came out in the open, Jacob left Pegasus. Ace buried a lover years ago and he has guarded his heart behind high walls ever since, but with Jacob gone Ace begins to realize he made a huge mistake. Jacob, wanting to be free of his old life and his 3 fathers’ influence, charted his own course and became the operative no one realized he could be. On a job, Jacob and Ace’s paths cross unexpectedly giving them a much needed second chance.
I really loved how the way forward for these two men was interwoven with a very action packed and suspenseful storyline. Despite the heaviness of the storyline, Rebel is actually not as angst filled as you’d think. There is a lot of feeling, but also action that keeps the storyline moving. This story was enjoyable from start to finish. Once again, Declan Winters masterfully brought the story to life and a unique voice to each of the many characters. And of course, Reese ended Rebel and left me wanting more from her team of guys. I can’t wait for the next in this series.

Ace had his own demons to work on, but working closely with Jacob and having his friendship despite their twenty-year age difference had made life a bit easier. They were so damned wrong. One job. One chance encounter. When an unexpected meeting happens, both men are left stunned. Then, shit gets all twisted up.
I loved this story as it was all about feelings and emotions with a good sized dose of danger and drama I felt for Jacob and how frustrating it was to be blocked because of his age. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
I love reading about these guys! I was so happy to finally read about Jacob and Ace and not surprised that Ace really blew it and Jacob had to leave. His dads' interference lead to his joining a group not unlike who he worked with before and Ace regrets sending him away. When he is hurt he thinks at first that he dreams that Jacob comes to see him but the four leaf clover card he finds lets him know he didn't but everyone else thinks he still needs to recover. Jacob works for Seven and respects him but doesn't know that Ace's group has been given false information about Seven and they go after him. Both groups are after a terrorist and converge on San Luis Obispo and Eric turns out to be the traitor and tries to kill Jacob. Seven is captured and SWAT, Pegasus, and Phoenix join forces to rescue Jacob and take in Seven. Hunting Scott's group in the forest is spooky and dramatic and they overcome the bad guys and Seven is cleared and Ace finally tells Jacob about Shane's death. I loved how it ended and look forward to reading about Hunter and Seven.
Ace and Jacob's story was worth the wait. The tension between these two have been teased with readers in the previous books. Jacob is all grown up and has come along way since the story of his dads who are part of Phoenix another operative group. Ace was his boss but at Pegasus but he left when he saw no future with him there anymore. Ace wants Jacob but the past gets in his way. Their story unfolds in a way that keeps you guessing. It would be best if the rest of the series was read first and a bigger bonus if you read the other series by Reese Knightley. The characters drop in during the series as they have a common goal of bringing down the bad guys. If you are looking for ex military/law enforcement, highly skilled operatives or task force type books with lots of action, plenty of steam and guaranteed HEA for MM MC's then then you can't go wrong with this author because she writes some of the best.
After a lot of UST and a seriously boneheaded move by Ace we finally get the story that brings Ace and Jacob together. They are still working at cross purposes and still being stubborn, and Jacob’s dads aren’t helping the situation at all. Ace finally wakes up, sort of, and then a crisis situation really puts things in perspective. We also get more on Seven and more mystery surrounding Fisher. I am trying to figure out however, how this elite group with the resources and information they have, are so horrendously misinformed here. It just didn’t ring true for me.
I can see the potential trial for some future couples developing as well. I am having fun bingeing this series/universe and I love the world Knightley has created. This book is the 21st in the combined universe so I’m a bit more than halfway through. I hope the author keeps adding to this world!
All I am going to say is so good, thoroughly enjoyed the story.
This story revolves around an older man and a younger man who worked closely together and fell in love. Ace is the commander of Pegasus and Jacob is their tech. He was raised by three of the top men in Phoenix who was over protective. Ace had lost the love of his life five years previously and was afraid to take another chance on a younger man. But Jacob was to prove himself to Ace and his dads that he was no longer a kid but a grown man and he wanted to be treated as such. Reese stories never disappoint and I like how the men of Pegasus and Phoenix interconnect when they are fighting human trafficking, drug trafficking an terrorism. Men who find love as the continue to protect their love ones, community and their country. I highly recommend this book and all the books in the various series.
I read this in one sitting. This book is filled with nonstop action. Ace lets Jacob slip away because he is afraid to love but soon realizes that he can’t live without him. He needs to get over the trauma he experienced so he can be with the man he loves.
Jacob after realizing ace was never going to love him goes off on his own and joins a top secret group chasing terrorist. He was tired of his dads and ace treating him like a child and goes out to prove he is more than capable of being a field agent.
I loved this book with all the plot twists, new characters coming to light and old ones we haven’t seen in a while. This is a must read and will have you on the edge of your seat till the very end.

“They were in this together, through thick and thin, forever.” Jacob is my ride or die. I. Love. Him. His lethalness, maturity, stealth, and loyalty are sexy, but it’s the way with only a single look, he can flay or melt Ace that has me doing some melting of my own. I almost want to say Ace doesn’t deserve him but…not only did he redeem himself and his stubbornness but Jacob would kill me if I got in their way. What a way it is: adrenaline pumping, breath gasping, and heart fluttering, and that doesn’t include the surprises in this book, I’m even more excited for the next in this addictive series.
This book was definitely worth the wait. Ace and Jacob gave everything that I expected from them. It took Jacob leaving for Ace to realize that he wanted him in his life as more than a worker and a friend. I'm glad that once he figured it out he didn't waffle back and forth with his feelings. This book was quick, fast-paced, action packed, and still filled with steamy romance. It was everything that I come to expect from this author and yet she still was able to surprise me with a twist I did not see coming. I absolutely loved it. I can't wait for the next one in the series.
Love this Author. This book was really entertaining. Jacob I loved as he was only 22 but he was mature in a good way and his personality never changed. Ace was a nice character and tbey were good together. Loved all the other characters showing up. What is annoying about these stories is the hint of other relationships Seven/Hunter Link/Eagle Owen/Jordan Creed/Kullen (sorry not spelt right), so your just hanging to read them especially next one and Link/Eagle. Oh well the wait is on.
Gotta love this story - bidding ones heart, doesn't prevent it being crushed. Let it free!
ACE holding his heart behavior nd an open triple wall is going to prevent him from finding his happiness or home. Jacob has found his one but getting him to let him in, could collapse on one of them. How can we make sure that you don't self destruct. High pressure military like operations puts the pressure of life and death on the line. Timing a ticking - will secrets reveal? MM romance.
I had really high hopes for this book and Reese Knightley didn't disappoint. The build up to this book between Ace and Jacob had me worried, but I knew they'd figure it out. They were able to work thru their issues and embrace the love they have for each other and support each other. This was definitely a great read. As usual we got to see some of our favorite characters from previous books and that was great. Glad I was able to go on this journey with these two amazing characters.
Pegasus, Phoenix, and a rogue force after the same endgame.
I love this series! The men of the Justice Force teams are so real. I love the interplay of personalities. This is Ace and Jacob's story. There is danger, family angst, betrayal, misunderstandings, rescues, and an all out battle against some very bad men. Ooh, and the best Halloween party ever! You are gonna love this book! The next one is set up nicely. I can't wait.
Finally Ace stepped up for Jacob, their tension and spark throughout this series made me really happy by the time I got here. I did want to give up though a couple times with their lack of communication but overall this book had a ton of action which kept me interested and they eventually did communicate and work out their happily ever after. I think the narrator did an amazing job bringing these two to life.
Narrated by Declan Winters. Eh. I couldn’t buy into the story, since the previous three books have all made it clear that this relationship was going to be featured in the book. The conflict is known before the book starts, and it just keeps getting hammered at again and again, from different perspectives. Sigh. It’s partly me, but this one just didn’t come together like the previous volumes have.
This book is everything I hoped and dreamed with Ace and Jacob. Jacob out to prove to everyone that he's not a kid anymore and Ace fighting his demons to realise what he wants. The action, suspens and forth and back between both while trying to catch the bad guys. All packed together in one great book!
Personally loved the first series and watching all the characters pop up again makes my heart fonder. These two have been flirting with each and dodging their relationship for 3 books i was almost sick with the tension. Loved every second cant wait to read hunter & Seven
Jacob had been in love with Ace for a long time. Ace loved him also, but thought their age difference was too great. When Jacob had had enough rejection, he walked away. That was when Ace finally came to his senses. Great story, continuing with Operation Justice Force, steamy and suspenseful.
