A short but powerful book about a devotion which has met with much opposition. I started reading it and then I got sidetracked as well. Sr. Mary of St. Peter, the Carmelite visionary who Jesus revealed this devotion to said that 'the more acceptable a thing is to God, the more odiously does Satan try to render it powerless. But greater merit awaits the soul who resists the assaults of the devil.' And all his efforts to annihilate this devotion will be fruitless.

I'm going on to Fr. Lawrence Daniel Carney III's other book, Preparation for Total Consecration to the Holy Face of Jesus: How God Draws the Soul into the Purgative, Illuminative, and Unitive Ways while accepting that I have not begun to absorb all that is in this one.

This book is one of those books that every Catholic needs to read. It dives into the history and meaning behind the Holy Face devotion, which honestly isn’t talked about enough, and shows how it can transform not only your life but society as a whole. Fr. Carney keeps it simple and relatable while packing it with inspiration. If you’re looking for a way to deepen your faith and bring Christ into the world’s chaos, this book is for you!

This review is long overdue. It took me a few tries to start this book. I do believe it was a matter of timing and I am so grateful to have kept at it. This book packs a punch and is so good.

The Secret of the Holy Face is the story behind a devotion that has the power to change so very much for our current day and age.

I knew about the Holy Face, mostly from the readings each Holy Week and the Stations of the Cross. I was however not familiar with the devotion to the Holy Face.

This book explores the history of this devotion, the story behind Veronica and her veil, the people who have promoted this devotion, and also, how we as lay people can take up this devotion and help to spread it.

This devotion goes hand in hand with the Sacred Heart devotion, which I was also not aware of. I look forward to thinking about this book and the devotion in the days to come. I have a feeling the Lord may be leading me to a new devotion.

A book for modern times! The message was a little stern and some parts were a bit repetitive but it really highlighted the importance of this devotion. For me, it recontextualized what it means to pray for reparations. It's more of a weapon than I thought! What I thought was a gentle calling has now dropped me into battle, and this book has given me the sword.

I got this book as a Christmas gift for helping with the 9th grade CCD class at a local parish, perhaps because I had recently talked to the kids about the Veil of Veronica, the Veil of Manoppello (which is contested to be the Veronica's true veil but the author of this book and many saints believed it to be instead the face napkin from Christ's burial and tomb), the Shroud of Turin, and the Divine Mercy painting.

I enjoyed this one, and I hope to read it again at some point. I did terrible at reading it consistently, but that didn't keep me from still being interested when I did read it. The topic is very intriguing and has me deeply considering developing my devotion to the Holy Face.
I particularly liked the stories of miracles and the quotes of saints and holy men and women - some I did know but learned knew things about them and some I never heard of before but want to become more acquainted.

Definitely a good read for Catholics.

Amazing Devotion

This is an amazing book especially for our times. Devotion to The Holy Face of Jesus should be spread throughout our country and the world. We must listen to Jesus and strive to overcome the “revolutionaries “ who are destroying our religion, our country, marriage and the family. The evils of communism have spread to every country , just as Jesus told Sr. Mary of St. Peter and Our Lady of Fatima warned. Jesus promised that this devotion would save save society. This is a must read book.

Excellent synopsis of the Holy Face devotion

So grateful for the research that went into this book. As a member of a Holy Face devotional group for the past 15 years we have read books on the Golden Arrow prayer, Sr. Mary of St. Peter and Leo Dupont. This book contains information on these essential elements and so much more. Thanks be to God for this book at this time. After having read this book, The Devotion to the Holy Face is one of my favorite devotions now! How sad that most Catholics are unfamiliar with it and have zero concepts of the rich Traditions of the Catholic Church! A face is usually the first thing you see when you're born, how foolish we are as a society to reject the Face of God's only Begotten Son and instead embrace sin and all the things that go directly against Christ and His Church!

The devotion to the Holy Face is beautiful, unfortunately this book veered too much into conspiracy theories and rad-trad-ism for me to be able to recommend it.
