In You’ll Be a Wonderful Parent , Jasper Peach provides a practical and emotional guide for LGBTIGA+ families around the arrival of a new baby.
Becoming a parent is already a challenging time, even more so if you don’t see yourself reflected in mainstream parenting resources, culture or even language. But alphabet soup families are also in the unique position of being able to intentionally build their own family structure and create an environment of huge love and belonging for their children. This little book holds the reader’s hand through the journeys of both birth and non-birth parents, with advice on everything from dealing with other’s definitions of your family, to finding the right medical care and communities, and of course making sure that you take a lot of naps before the baby is born.
A beautifully illustrated hardback full of warmth and personality, You’ll Be a Wonderful Parent is unlike any other book on the market in its inclusive and celebratory approach to queer parenting, and there is something for everyone to learn from the values and experiences of rainbow families. It is the perfect book for new or expecting parents of all descriptions.
I loved this book. I don’t know how Jasper manages to make every person feel so included and held, but that’s their magic skill. Beautiful writing and images. Buy this for yourself and every parent you know.
this is a lovely little book and i’m glad it exists. a very sweet and affirming authorial voice and i particularly loved the illustrations. i personally found it a little too generalising and platitudinal at times, though that’s to be expected with a book that’s trying to be “for everyone”. i personally was hoping for some more practical advice (as someone who is planning to be pregnant but is also not a woman, a lot of existing literature isn’t ideal) i guess, but i understand that’s not what this book is for, and i do think what the book is for is valuable and necessary, even if not quite for me. still, some lovely affirmations and nuggets of wisdom that i will take with me
I heard a commentator recommend this during a discussion about book banning and felt inspired to borrow it from my local library, to make sure these titles stay ON the shelves. It's very brief, but covers a lot. Worth a look for anyone.
A warm and engaging book full of useful advice about how to prepare for the practical and emotional challenges for LGBTIQA+ families expecting a new baby. Beautifully illustrated and written, it fills a gap in parenting advice books, and offers an affirming and encouraging perspective. A great read.
I highly recommend this book to people who are starting their journey of parenthood. I was hoping there will be part beyond pregnancy and conceiving which is why I started reading it. I really hope eventually they will release a book on LGBT families that occur in different ways.
D’awwww. So affirming and sweet. Making me even more excited. Cried several times. Definitely will revisit this book over the next few years… Sometimes parts of it felt a bit too general and trite but it was always in a feel good way. Really solid book, will def rec to others.
This is such a beautiful celebration of love and family. While it's intended for Rainbow Families, I really believe everyone could benefit from reading it. Brava Jasper!
A very quick read affirming all the ways people become families, and acknowledging the struggles experienced in different scenarios. I loved the illustrations, colours and layout too.
