Sexy and thrilling. I got hooked with the rush I got from reading those firefighters battle life threatening infernos, I kept flipping pages because the great characters and fast paced, suspenseful plot.
Service before all. Protect. Team. Shae McCullough deeply believes in all of the above, especially when one of her fellow firefighters asks for help, even if she’s disobeying a direct order. But her little feat has now landed her a two-week stay in the boring arson investigation unit. That is until she stumbles across what looks like arson covering up a murder, sending her to Remington’s intelligence unit and closely working with the very smart, serious and sexy with glasses James Capelli.
Shae’s spontaneity and impetuousness was too dangerous for Capelli’s very logical and structured way of life. He didn’t understand her and had a hard time fathoming their wild attraction; and having to closely work with her only stoked the flames to their incredible chemistry.
But the man their chasing won’t be brought in without a fight and he’ll do anything, including reveal Capelli’s dark past and put Shae and Capelli in harm’s way. Can they find a way to work together and catch him or will their newfound romance go up in flames?
Both Shae and Capelli were fascinating characters I enjoyed getting to know. Shae is a strong woman who’s not afraid to take risks and live life at its fullest, but there’s a heartbreaking reason behind her attitude. James Capelli’s backstory was just as sad, but it compelled him to lead a life on the straight and narrow. I very much enjoyed reading their relationship unfold. I loved how Shae saw the good man behind the rigid façade even though Capelli had a hard time believing it and watching him be so very protective of her made my heart swell.
Kimberly Kincaid’s latest novel packs an exciting punch with the right amounts of emotions. There’s sexiness and steam. There’s wit and banter. There’s suspense and excitement. This is an opposites attract story, which makes the chemistry between Shae and Capelli all the sweeter.
Not only do we experience Shae and Capelli’s bumpy romance from each of their points of view, but we also get a peek at the bad guy’s evil machinations, it’s was frighteningly brilliant! I devoured the novel and I’m sure Kincaid’s followers, and any romantic suspense fan, will love it as well.

This firefighter/police story goes from 0-60 in a few pages. Danger, murder, and very hot sex kept me turning the pages. Two suspicious fires, two dead bodies; a female firefighter and a gorgeous nerdy tech guy, with a minor case of OCD and a secret past, end up working the case together. Turns out they do a lot of good things together. Suspense never lets up!

I’ve been waiting a long while for Kimberly Kincaid’s Station Seventeen series to come back and I’m happy to see ‘Deep Burn’ mark its return. A case of arson and murder kicks it all off and Kincaid pits total opposites—a reckless, impulsive firefighter and a rational, tech guy with a guarded past—in this one when it seems as though the previous case and this are linked by a shadowy criminal figure intent on pulling everyone’s strings.
I’ll admit from the start that it took me a long time to warm up to Shae McCullough, if I could even at all. Reckless, impulsive—with a load of adjectives in between—and always straining at the leash to do something, there was a part of me that wondered if that rogue bit of her was going to endanger someone at the end, if it hadn’t already had at the start. But her open honesty and her loyalty to Capelli did help make up for it, particularly after he told her about his criminal past.
I do appreciate Kincaid's unusual take on James Capelli though; there’s this borderline, repressed almost-manic air to him if that energy isn’t channelled into logical, rational crime-solving, which would probably lead him straight back into his criminal hacking past that he’s desperate to bury. The brooding, careful calculation with which he does things is admittedly more attractive than the impulse that Shae shows, though this is probably my own OCD showing up, and I really liked how tech and surveillance guys can be heroes in their own right as Kincaid has shown.
From the onset, it seemed as though this unlikely pairing wouldn’t be able to cut it together—that great is the social and metaphorical distance between them, but as the arson/murder investigation goes on, Shae and Capelli do balance each other out in a way I didn’t quite expect. I’d hoped though, to see more of a moderating influence that Capelli might have had on Shae, just as she could have had him becoming more spontaneous and less buttoned-down, which didn’t exactly happen.
Despite this, Kincaid’s writing is as solid as ever (it’s a style that appeals personally to me) and as always, I can’t wait to see what else she has up her sleeve with Station Seventeen.

Shae McCullough loves being a firefighter, but when she does something reckless while on the job, she's sent to work with the arson investigation unit for two weeks. Except when she discovers a recent fire linked to the scene that led to her suspension, Shae isn't about to allow anyone to discount her instincts until she has all the facts. However, she never imagined she'd have to team up with James Capelli to find the truth. Yet, the further into the investigation they get, the more James finds too many coincidences that lead back to his past; a past he's moved on from, but has been unable to forget. Can James and Shae find the person responsible before it's too late, or will their chance at happy ever after go up in flames?
Ms. Kincaid writes really good contemporary romances, but her romantic suspense stories are even better in my opinion. Seriously, this book had everything that I love in a romantic suspense such as the right balance of suspense and romance; great main and secondary characters, even the bad guy who was pure evil; a fast-paced plot that never failed to entertain; and dialogue that had me laughing or smiling unless Shae or James were talking about their back stories and then I couldn't help but empathize with them both.
Right from the beginning, I was hooked to this story due to the opening line, because I wanted to know whether Shae would get her way; and due to the teasing banter between Shae and the rest of the firefighters of Station Seventeen. They're close and have a bond as tight as family, and I absolutely enjoyed every moment they interacted. As Shae doesn't have many people in her life, but the crew are there for her when she needs them. Furthermore, the dialogue was well-written, riveting and intense due to the main characters back stories that had me sympathizing with both Shae and James; and due to the investigation and how far the bad guy is willing to go to get his way. It is also told from not only the hero and heroine's point-of-views, but also the bad guy and when the story was told from his point-of-view, it was spine-tingling and had me gripping my kindle with worry for the main characters, because of how far the bad guy was willing to go not to get caught.
Both the main characters entertained me from start to finish due to their growing relationship; the investigation that takes them in a dangerous direction; and their heartbreaking back stories, which once I learnt more about Shae, I could understand why she takes risks. What happened to someone she was close to was a tragedy, and shows she should live every day like it's her last, because one never knows what the day will bring. While James, it's understandable how his back story has led him to be a man that follows the rules, because his life could have gone a different way, if he continued to allow those that were supposed to protect him to lead him down the path he was taking. I also liked how protective he was of Shae when the case began to unravel and that he would do anything to keep her safe, because he knew how dangerous the bad guy could be, considering the connection he had to the bad guy.
Overall, Ms. Kincaid has penned a brilliant second book for her Station Seventeen series where the chemistry was intense and instantaneous the moment Shae and James came face-to-face for the first time in this story and spilled over onto the pages in sizzling sex scenes that illustrated just how good these two are together. The way this story ended had me on the edge-of-my seat due to what the main characters go through when they go up against the bad guy. Even the best and most thorough plans can fail, and I liked how far James was willing to go to protect Shae, because if he hadn't been, then things could have turned out a lot differently. Good thing James is so sneaky and is good enough to outthink the bad guy. I would highly recommend Deep Burn by Kimberly Kincaid, if you enjoy romantic suspense, the opposites attract trope or books by authors Jennifer Bernard, Susan Stoker, Lynn Raye Harris or Cristin Harber.

I immediately liked Shae and Capelli. She was brash without being reckless and frustrating, and he was analytical while still being personable. (I really liked Capelli!) They fit together perfectly. Throw in a diabolical bad-guy and you have a good story. It was fast paced and laced with some smoking hot romance – great combination. If I had to say anything, it would be that the ending seemed a little too easy; I was still satisfied but kept waiting for something. This is a fun read with characters that stayed with you long after the book ended.

DEEP BURN was outstanding. I would give it 10 stars if i could.
Fast paced action throughout this book was amazing as the first book SKIN DEEP.
You have a no holds bar firefighter Shae McCullough who lives life to
the fullest. She may be Reckless but has any of her friends backs at a fire scene.
But now she finds herself taking a step back for not taking orders.
She's sent to work in the arson department. How boring is that? Well maybe not so much, because she finds herself knee deep in something very interesting. She also is working with James Capelli from the 33rd. The fire Shae was at and other fires she see's reports of in arson might just be related. The only person who believes her is Capelli.
Capelli harbors a secret that only one person in the department knows. But when he realizes who
there firestarter is. He knows his past is back to haunt him..
A heat boils between Shae and Capelli.

It's been a while since I've been in this series. It's been almost 3 years a while, lol. After reading this one, I'm starting to remember why now.
For the most part the books are good. They feel a little drawn out but it's the endings I hate. They are extremely abrupt and we get nothing about them in the future. For example, they finally say I love you and 124 words later the book is done.
And then to add the nail to the coffin, the epilogue is the kind I hate. It has nothing to do with the couple we just finished reading. Nope, it's the couple for the next book, ugh. Lookup the definition to epilogue, because what we get isn't that and it's so frustrating.
I've kept this series on my open list because I keep hoping we will see more of the prior couples to get an idea of what's going on in their lives, but it's just not happening.

An absolutely fantastic book from start to finish! Fast paced, full of suspense, scorching sexy times, and a story and characters that grab your attention and hold it. Put this one on the top of the must read list.
Shae McCullough, a firefighter at station seventeen, and James Capelli, a specialist in the Elite Investigations unit for the Remington Police dept find themselves neck deep in a murder/arson investigation that could put both their lives at risk. These two seem like an odd pairing but somehow they just work on and off the case!
If you enjoy your romance with a whole lot of steam and suspense, don't miss this one! I highly recommend it.

Shae was such an amazing fascinating character and I loved the way she was able to get Cappelli to loosen up and trust his gut. I loved the story between the two of them and you could feel the tension pouring from the pages. The murder case kept m on my toes and I didn't know what was going to happen next and I flew through the story. I loved these two and their journey. I enjoyed seeing some familiar faces from the other books in the series and can't wait to see who is next.

I loved this book. It was such a great romance. Shae and James both had troubled pasts but they just fit together. I love the way their feelings unfolded and i also loved the suspense factor and the villain.

Kimberly Kincaid does it again with another edge of your seat, suspense filled Station Seventeen book. I have to say that I love this series. I love a HEA, and this book sure does have that, but is will keep that reader on the edge of their seat, it will have you biting your nails and hanging on to every word. This is the story of Shae and Capelli.
Firefighter Shae McCullough loves the thrill of working at Station Seventeen. Just another one of the guys, she lives for the adventure of the job, loves her work and the family that she has made for herself with these firefighters. When Station Seventeen is called to the scene of a fire that reeks of arson and something a little more dangerous, Shea will be giving no choice but to team up with Capelli and the rest of the detectives to figure out what they have on their hands.
James Capelli the best tech and surveillance expert that the PD has ever had. Not a officer by any means, he deals with facts. He is logical and has earned the nickname Encyclopedia Brown by his coworkers. But he also has a thing for the beautiful Shae McCullough and for him that spells danger.
When Shea and Capelli unravel that mystery of who is setting the fires, they will need to set a trap of their own. But when Shea is taken, Capelli will move heaven and earth to get her back, keep her safe and make her his.
What I loved so much about the relationship between Capelli and Shea is that they both had each others backs. They trusted each other not only with long buried secrets, but with their very lives. I loved how Shea opened up to Capelli about the loss of her best friend and why she decided to become a firefighter in the first place. Capelli was so supportive and caring it made me melt. And when Capelli opened up about his past, what he had done, what he blames himself for, Shea was right there for him, telling him that he was a good man, that he was the best man. She was so honest in her belief that somehow, she was able to get him to see it to.

When I heard that Capelli was going to be the hero in the second installment of Station 17, I had no idea what to expect. You see from the first book I pictured him as a nerdy, computer geek. Sorry, (not) it was my imagination putting specific looks to him. But clearly he is a hunk under all those brains. And OMG, Shae, what a badass firefighter she is in this book, a real rule breaker, risk taker girl.
What I enjoyed the most about this second installment of suspense and romance is that even though you knew who was being paired off, the way it occurred and the drama leading up to the relationship and the crux of the book could not be predicted. I actually put the book down at one point because it was so intense; even though I knew the heroine and the hero would survive. But I had to catch my breath after another unexpected twist.
I think the author did a phenomenal job of tying this story into Book 1 of Station 17, and playing off of the previous villain's co-conspirators.
I can easily say that Capelli is clearly my new 'geeky', hunky, book boyfriend.
What I enjoyed the most about this second installment of suspense and romance is that even though you knew who was being paired off, the way it occurred and the drama leading up to the relationship and the crux of the book could not be predicted. I actually put the book down at one point because it was so intense; even though I knew the heroine and the hero would survive. But I had to catch my breath after another unexpected twist.
I think the author did a phenomenal job of tying this story into Book 1 of Station 17, and playing off of the previous villain's co-conspirators.
I can easily say that Capelli is clearly my new 'geeky', hunky, book boyfriend.

Shae McCullough has always been an all in balls to the wall kind of firefighter. The only problem is her most recent reckless behavior gets her assigned to the arson unit for two weeks to file paperwork. James Capelli is the tech and surveillance expert on Remington's elite intelligence unit. Shae knows that the fire that earned her this two week penance was intentionally set and part of a bigger problem going on in her town. That leads her down a road of possible arson and murder and how the find the killer and stop them before anyone else gets hurt. Capelli isn't so sure he wants to be saddled with someone who has Shae's impulsiveness. Capelli has a dark past that he's kept from everyone on his team except his captain. The deeper they come to discovering who is behind everything going on, the more Capelli realizes his past is making its way into his present. I loved the relationship between Shae and Capelli and the way both of them were there for the other to work through their pasts. It was a fantastic read and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I found this story extremely interesting with all of the details regarding Capelli’s eidetic memory, the specific descriptions regarding fires and their causes pertaining to meth labs and electricity. These details made this story pop! Shae’s boundless energy and Capelli’s uptight reserve give this story a real challenge to get these two opposites a chance at finding love along with understanding and accepting each other as well as help capture an evil murderer. Who knew a tech nerd was hot and sexy? I loved this story!

OMG, I loved, loved, loved this book. The first book in this series is Skin Deep, and it was fantastic, but Deep Burn was even beyond that. It was fascinating how author Kimberly Kincaid was able to paint a picture of the characters James Capelli and Shae McCullough in this story, as well as all of the secondary characters. I loved knowing what Capelli and Shae were thinking as they made their way through all the conflict, complications and danger in their path, which ultimately lead them to the passion and love between them, even though they both tried to avoid it. The "Shadow", the shifty and very clever villain was also right on the mark. Kimberly writes her diabolical villains perfectly. I ended up staying up until 3:00 a.m. reading this book all in one sitting, because I was unable to put it down. I am not a person that rereads their books, but I already know that I will be visiting this book again, because I loved it so much. All I can say is READ THIS BOOK. You will love it.

Kincaid does serious research for books. Her knowledge of fires, arson, and basic firefighting is extensive. Station Seventeen is back again hunting an arsonist and murderer. Working with the police intelligence unit Shae is helping to find the suspect. She witnessed one fire and has a personal stake in the outcome. She is brassy, silly, and risky with actions and words. Her complete opposite is James Capelli, geeky brainiac with a mind made for puzzles and a seriously secretive past. The two make an odd couple but produce very intense fireworks. Great series about firefighters and is not only sexy but suspenseful, I couldn't put it away. I found the characters familiar from reading the first book but it wasn't necessary to read beforehand, this one is a standalone. I received an ARC from Netgalley, my review written voluntarily.

OMG! This story deserves 10 stars!! Capelli is a tech nerd that has had a rough childhood and has learned to live life very regimented because he doesn't trust his emotions. Shea is a strong, smart, independent women who lives life by breaking the rules and going by her gut instincts. These two are total opposites but when they get together, HOLY MOLY, are they steamy! This story is full of twists and turns and will keep you glued to your seat to the very end!! Can't WAIT for the next book in this series!!

I am in love with this series. Deep Burn begins with Station Seventeen getting called to a massive fire. Turns out this is a murder scene as well.
Our heroine is Shae McCullough, a fly by the seat, adrenaline junkie firefighter. I love that she puts her everything in, all the time. Of course, this recklessness keeps her in trouble. she is given a reprimand and sent to the arson investigation division at the police department to "push paper" until her sentence is carried out. Of course she starts digging and uncovers a series of connected fires.
Our hero, James Capelli, works for the arson department, although he is not technically a cop. He is a play by the rules kind of guy. He also has a OCD kind of personality. He remembers everything and puts it into compartments of his mind, ready to pull out when needed. He is the total opposite of Shae. I found myself smiling at the banter between the two of them. They were perfect for each other
I was on the edge of my seat from the beginning of this book. The action was intense and the writing was tight. I could almost feel the heat of the fire and the adrenaline pumping as they rushed to put out the fires. I absolutely loved the interaction between Shae and Capelli. Their chemistry was electric. This was my absolute favorite couple in this series. The supporting characters were also well written and I am looking forward to their stories as well.

Wow. I loved this book! Shae, honest, brassy, seemingly reckless matched up with controlled, by-the-books Capelli. This is so much more than opposites attract. These two were combustible! They brought out something special in each other and it was fantastic to watch them fall in love. And all of this happens while they work to catch a creepy murderer\arsonist. Lots of suspense, hot sexy scenes, and a beautiful love story. Seriously, I loved this book! This is a great addition to this series!

I found Deep Burn has a great balance between suspense, romance and character interaction. The storyline was compelling and I really felt I was a part of this well written story easily holding my interest from beginning to end.
With series like Station Seventeen, Cross Creek and Rescue Squad, Kimberly Kincaid has become an auto print buy for me. I would definitely recommend this book

Are you ready to feel the burn? Rhetorical question because of course you are. How can you pass up hot firefighters and cops? Add in that the fact that Kimberly Kincaid has written what has quickly become my favourite book of hers in Deep Burn and you have zero excuses to pass this book up.
OMG, how I loved this book and Shae and Capelli. I was so excited to read it that I may have squealed like a tween when I got my grubby hands on it. Seriously, I have read this book more than once since I got it, know it almost word for word and I still want to go back and read it. I FREAKING LOVED IT.
I will say my love for this book is twofold. Firstly there is the love for the writing and storyline. The author does an amazing job of blending romance, hot, hot sex, humour, heart, character development and suspense and making the storyline flow but keep you hooked at the same time. You can totally get lost in the world she has created and not feel bad about it. Hell I would pack my bags and move there if I could.
My other love for this book is the characters. I am the first to say that after Skin Deep that I was fascinated by firefighter Shae McCulloch. There was just something about her that drew me in and I needed to know more. Cue the girly squealing when it was announced she was going to be the lead in this book. After reading Deep Burn, I have a serious girl crush. Shae is one of those characters that come along and you love them instantly. She is so much more than just a firefighter and we get to see what makes Shae tick and be who she is. The Starsky to Capelli’s Hutch.
“A muscle pulled tight over the line of Capelli’s jaw, and in that second, Shae realized how hard he’d been fighting for his composure. And just how badly she wanted to wreck it.”
Ooooh James Capelli is just divine, hot, dreamy, intense, nerdy and so not what you expect when you scratch the surface. If I say I have a girl crush on Shae it’s nothing compared to how much I love Capelli. Who knew that just under the surface of the uber intense cyber geek there lay a dirty talker who can certainly follow through on that talk. Lucky Shae. But he also has many complex layers that make him the man he is and the perfect Hutch to Shae’s Starsky.
Put these two together and sparks will fly. Shae and Capelli are absolutely perfect for each other. While they have enough chemistry to burn your ereader, (wait for the life affirming scene that is hotter than hot) they are also the light to each other’s dark. From their adorkably awkward first attempt at flirting at the grocery store, (so cute) to the heart-warming ending that will leave you with a big fat smile. Shae and Capelli are just undeniably right for each other.
“Do you want to tell me what you do want?” “You, Shae. I want you.” And just like that, his composure shattered.
Yes I’ve neglected the suspense side, but you really need to experience it to fully enjoy it. No spoilers from me. Sorry, not sorry. Let’s just say that the bad guy made my skin crawl and leave it at that.

4.5 Stars! Deep Burn is book #2 in the Station Seventeen series but can easily be read as a stand alone book.
I love a good fire fighter story and I also like reading about females that are in male dominated roles and flourish so I was looking forward to this book. I'll be honest though, it took me awhile to really like Shae. She was just a bit too reckless, impulsive and had very little respect for the rules (even in a job when they are obviously necessary for the safety of everyone). I wish that when she got in trouble for breaking the chain of command she would have given it a little more thought and accepted some responsibility and demonstrated that what she did was wrong instead of instantly justifying her behavior. I didn't necessarily like her "well it all worked out because I'm a good firefighter" attitude. However, I really liked her interactions with Capelli and her acceptance of his past and non-judgment did a lot to win me over. So although her recklessness bothered me a bit her loyalty and honesty won me over and by midway through the book I was a fan of Shae.
I also really liked Capelli and found him an interesting character and I loved that he wasn't the typical alpha male hero. He was a very logical, nerdy type hero and I found his role as tech and surveillance fitting and compelling. I also enjoyed watching him loose his completely rational thought process when confronted with his attraction to Shea.
The romance between Shea and Capelli actually worked which was surprising given how completely different these two characters were. The sex scenes were hot and I believed the emotional entanglement between them. I was actually surprised that Capelli didn't have more of a moderating effect on Shea and vice versa and yet they do balance each other.
The suspense was interesting and it kept me reading to see how it would all play out. Although the identity of the villain was known from the beginning I still found myself on the edge reading to see how they would outwit him.
Overall, intriguing characters, a compelling romance and a great mix of suspense and romance. I look forward to more books in the Station Seventeen series.

This book shreds any pre-conceived notions you may have about how alpha heroes and the women who love them are supposed to be presented! I have gotten used to my alpha male heroes flexing kick-butt muscles and oozing testosterone. Yet with one look of his “melty chocolate eyes,” police techno-genius James Capelli had my attention. What a compelling character! Meanwhile, speaking of kick-butt, Shae McCullough may be a female but she swaggers like any testosterone-fueled fireman, dashing into burning building with her colleagues then burning up the sheets with no-strings-attached lovers. The two have been somewhat drawn to one another, but always kept some distance. But as Capelli and Shae find themselves working together to solve an arson-turned homicide, their attraction combusts!
“Deep Burn” is an intense, fascinating, sexy story filled with suspense and romance, along with our favorite firefighters and cops from Remington’s Fire Station Seventeen and the Thirty-Third. Every time I read a Kimberly Kincaid book, I declare it my favorite and “Deep Burn” is no exception. Once again Ms. Kincaid has crafted a riveting plot full of twists and turns, containing characters I need to know better, and weaved throughout with emotion running the gamut from light-hearted banter to heart-breaking sorrow. Perhaps most amazing of all, the reader knows who the villain is, but it only seemed to enhance the edge- of-your-seat, hold-your-breath moments! And throughout it all, Capelli and Shae navigate the case and their emerging feelings. Because at it’s heart, this story is about two souls so figuratively scarred by events in their past that they believe a lasting relationship with anyone is beyond reach. Of course, this only makes Shae and Capelli perfect for one another - you cannot help but root for them to bring closure to the case and a happily-ever-after beginning for their relationship.
Deep Burn is such a top-notch, well-written romantic suspense read it is definitely getting a re-read soon - I loved it that much. It is the perfect read for anytime, anyplace!

Shae McCullough, the lone female Station Seventeen female firefighter, refuses to have a relationship with one of her firefighter teammates; Shae thrives on the adrenaline rush of her chosen profession, but doesn’t need the complications that it could cause. On a call to a fire scene in a meth lab, Shae finds two dead men: one apparently died of smoke inhalation, however the other one was clearly murdered: his throat was slit. Upon looking more closely, Shae is convinced that the fire was arson, and true to her rebellious nature, she gets herself suspended from active duty because of her big mouth. Again.
James Capelli, an intelligence officer for the Remington Police Department but not a cop. He is bored, he has nothing to do, until the he is asked to investigate the met lab fire. Capelli doesn’t like crime scenes, and he doesn’t know how he will ever manage when he meets Shae, who has been relocated for two weeks in his unit. She is impulsive, seems to act before she thinks, she operates on emotion; she is everything Capelli is not. And he doesn’t understand why he could ever be attracted to this woman who threatens his well-ordered world.
And did Kimberly Kincaid ever do her research! I felt I was watching an action movie rather than reading! Shae and Capelli are the ultimate polar opposites, and I loved Shae even though she is reckless, and bends the rules a tad too much, she is dynamic, passionate and thorough in her own way. She did make me a bit dizzy at the beginning with her abundance of energy; I could almost hear her talking at lightning speed. On the other hand, Capelli did not appeal to me in the least. Maybe it’s because I have encountered men just like him, and it colours my perception, but still I felt he came across like a Vulcan but without Mr. Spock’s particular charm. I think it might have to do with the author’s persistent reminders on his being logical, methodical, weighing the odds, calculating probabilities. Capelli, to me, was a robot, and I couldn’t fathom why Shae was attracted to him, at least initially, even though he is supposed to be ever so handsome. I understood she liked to tease him, but still, it’s a far cry from becoming infatuated with – let’s be honest – an emotionless, dull, boring, however an enticing male specimen he might be. Or maybe it’s just me, but I couldn’t understand Shae’s attraction, although I understood Capelli’s. I felt he came alive only during the amazingly hot sex scenes. Both Shae and Capelli showed growth, and I felt it was more convincing in Shae’s case. However, I thought they made a fabulous investigating team because their thought processes were so different, and I would have liked if they had been part of a spin-off series, although not as lovers.
DEEP BURN is a fabulously crafted suspense story, the writing is flawless, it’s extremely fast-paced, thoroughly entertaining, and Ms. Kincaid gives us enough details to keep us enthralled without weighing down the narrative. Although the romance didn’t work for me, I would definitely recommend DEEP BURN because it’s one of this year’s best suspense stories!

And did Kimberly Kincaid ever do her research! I felt I was watching an action movie rather than reading! Shae and Capelli are the ultimate polar opposites, and I loved Shae even though she is reckless, and bends the rules a tad too much, she is dynamic, passionate and thorough in her own way. She did make me a bit dizzy at the beginning with her abundance of energy; I could almost hear her talking at lightning speed. On the other hand, Capelli did not appeal to me in the least. Maybe it’s because I have encountered men just like him, and it colours my perception, but still I felt he came across like a Vulcan but without Mr. Spock’s particular charm. I think it might have to do with the author’s persistent reminders on his being logical, methodical, weighing the odds, calculating probabilities. Capelli, to me, was a robot, and I couldn’t fathom why Shae was attracted to him, at least initially, even though he is supposed to be ever so handsome. I understood she liked to tease him, but still, it’s a far cry from becoming infatuated with – let’s be honest – an emotionless, dull, boring, however an enticing male specimen he might be. Or maybe it’s just me, but I couldn’t understand Shae’s attraction, although I understood Capelli’s. I felt he came alive only during the amazingly hot sex scenes. Both Shae and Capelli showed growth, and I felt it was more convincing in Shae’s case. However, I thought they made a fabulous investigating team because their thought processes were so different, and I would have liked if they had been part of a spin-off series, although not as lovers.
DEEP BURN is a fabulously crafted suspense story, the writing is flawless, it’s extremely fast-paced, thoroughly entertaining, and Ms. Kincaid gives us enough details to keep us enthralled without weighing down the narrative. Although the romance didn’t work for me, I would definitely recommend DEEP BURN because it’s one of this year’s best suspense stories!

Kimberly Kincaid burns up the pages with Deep Burn, the second book in her Station Seventeen series. Shae McCullough, a fire fighter at Station Seventeen, responsed recklessly at a fire which earned her two weeks of shuffling paper for the arson investigation unit. While there, see discovers another possible arson that looks very similar to the one she just fought, where two men were murdered. After sharing this information Shae becomes assigned to work with Remington’s Elite Intelligence unit on the investigation to find this murderer.
James Capelli, a tech and surveillance expert with the Elite squad believes logic is not just one of his job requirements; it’s his way of life. Capelli’s not quite happy to be working with the impulsive Shae as it threatens his sanity and her curves and beauty threaten his composure. Despite their differences they find a way to work together to solve a case that becomes much larger than anyone expected. This killer ends up not being a stranger to Capelli, but actually someone who is part of his dark and secret past. The more time Capelli and Shae spend together, the more attracted they become to each other; a case of opposites attract. The chemistry between these two is amazing and Ms. Kincaid is incredible in her descriptions of the sexy time shared between these two. All in all, it really did come down to a race against the clock as Shae and Capelli work to outsmart the man behind the arsons and killings.
I really enjoyed reading this book as had Ms. Kincaid drew me in and did not let me go until I read the last page. Ms. Kincaid kept this reader mesmerized with wanting to see how Shae and Capelli would capture this guy and whether or not they would get their happy ever after. I highly recommend this book to other readers and I for one look forward to the next book in this series.
