7 Steps to a Language-Rich, Interactive Classroom, 2nd Edition, provides a seven step process that creates a language-rich, interactive classroom environment, one in which all students can thrive and succeed. Topics include differentiating instruction for students at a variety of language proficiencies, keeping all students absolutely engaged, and creating powerful learning supports.
Some great information and examples of how language can be made visible across contents and contexts. I appreciate how they consider what these steps would look like in a virtual space. I also appreciate the QR codes where you can see the steps in action. As someone with an TESOL background, I can really appreciate the supports this book proposes. Everything in this book is what a lot of good teachers already do. I like that there are examples across contents, which is something I feel these sorts of books sometimes neglect. Also, I like the aesthetics of the book. Great design!
One of the better-formatted books I've read and used for professional development. It has several good ideas for encouraging more participation and the use of spoken and written language for every aspect of classroom activity.
This is a valuable resource for anyone who wants to bump their teaching up another level. Seidlitz books are written chiefly with English language learners in mind, but honestly, this would benefit teachers of any population. The steps are practical and IMO just make your class more fun.
As a teacher I found this to be a decent recourse for things I have done in the past or was already doing. It’s a good place to store all of the skills.
