Keep your mouth shut. In the dusty summer orchards of 1939 San Jose, California, seventeen-year-old Violetta Giordano lives a bucolic life. But appearances are deceptive. In the Giordano family, ties to the Mafia stretch as far away as Sicily and bind just as tightly. Sacrifice your heart and soul. Ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery, sexual desire, and forbidden love, with a handsome young immigrant named Gaetano, Violetta’s plans are uprooted when she is forced into an arranged marriage with one of the most notorious crime bosses in the country. To protect her family and the man she loves, Violetta tempers her heart and surrenders her sanity. Endure a life of treachery and abuse. The deeper Violetta submerges into her underground, macabre world, the harder it is to gauge her morality. Such is the life of a Mafia queen. Play the game to survive. No one refuses a Don and gets away with it. The mob always collects. Edgy and emotional, ruthless and romantic, Queen of Secrets is told through the captivating lens of two courageous women whose mother-daughter bond—not of blood but through blood—is their only escape. Queen of Secrets , book one in the Mafia Matriarch series, seamlessly blends the female-centric journey and uncertain HEA of women’s fiction with the beloved romance tropes of forbidden love, first love, coming of age, innocent to queen, and arranged marriage. Although primarily an epic love story with sizzling-hot love scenes, the book contains some content related to criminal behavior, domestic violence, self-harm, sexual aggression, and drug abuse that some readers may find uncomfortable. 18+ only.

“Queen of Secrets” by E.J.Tanda, a first time read for me from this author and a new topic, Mafia. Although hesitant at first about the topic, it did NOT disappoint!

This novel is told over two time-lines, one from Violetta (Vi’s) point of view as she tells her love and tragic story to her care taker, Barbara, and the other as told from Barbara in present day. Both women share the commonality of abuse.

This novel is about a young girl,Vi, living with her family entwined in the snarls of the Mafia and falling head over heels in love with a young immigrant, Gaetano. Deeply in love and despite HER plans to marry Gaetano, her father has his own agenda as he promised Vi’s hand to someone else, a notorious crime boss. Vi’s life is desolate and destroyed as she is controlled by the choice her father had to make to protect the family!

Vi comes to discover the “true” life of a Mafia wife, one of abuse, shame and fear as she moves to New York, away from her family and friends. This novel elicits not only the horrific stories of a mafia queen but instills hope in Tanda’s next novel in the series.

Vi and Barbara were brought together with a similarity in histories. I loved how they bonded and were able to help one another in the end.
Although difficult to read at times, I still give it 5 stars and recommend this book to anyone who wants to try something new and enjoys passion with some harsh truths.
Thanks to #lovebooktours on Instagram for this “read along” and to EJ Tanda for the novel, it will hold a spot on my shelf forever.

This is the first book I've read by this author and in fact, the first in this genre too.
It's also book 1 of the Mafia Matriarch Series and an absolutely brilliant start to this new series - I loved it!!

We follow the story over two timelines - early 1940's, from Violetta's pov - and the present day (early 2000's), from Barbara's pov.
Barbara, a care nurse, is brought in to care for the now elderly and struggling Vi.
After a bumpy start, the pair form a bond based around a shared trauma.

I loved the way this was written because it allowed us to really get to know the two women and hear each of their stories in depth.
Focussing more on Vi's past in this book, we soon learn why she opened up to Barbara more than she's ever opened up to anyone else for lots of years.
Seeing their bond develop was really lovely for both of them and lovely to read.
I can see them getting up to all sorts later in the series.

Vi's story so far was heartwrenching and I really felt for her younger self - as well as understanding more about what made her the woman she is today.
I loved that she saw through Barbara's disguises and reached out in the only way she knew how, to offer her support and gratitude for all that she was doing for her.

I know that there's so much more to be told in Vi's past story - as well as seeing how Barbara's story moves forward now.
I am so excited to see what book 2 brings us for both the ladies.

The moment that hooked me was learning that secrets of The Mafia could be revealed from a great aunt with alzheimers. Violetta turned into a wonderful independent character. Barbara was in a long standing relationship with a gambling a-hole, trapped in a nuclear family with two kids. 100% she was always going to take the job caring for Ms.G. I was thrilled that she did the further I got into the book.

Told between 1939-2003, with a few Spicy 🌶️ moments. I found myself loving the Italian words and couldn’t help pronouncing the accent in my mind as I was reading. The letters back and forth were so emotional and raw. I loved them in the book, and I loved the anticipation of reaching another letter. It’s a tough read at times reading about Frank’s and Marcus’s abusive ways and tones. I didn’t expect the heart wrenching moments and they were so painful to read. The author completely touched me as a reader with the written words.

I can’t believe it’s finished this in less than a few days. I cannot wait to continue Mrs.G and Barbara’s journey, and find what else happened with her guy.

READ THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW!

Oh my goodness, I’ve read my fair share of mafia books, but this one? This one is in a league of its own. I could not put it down!

First off, can we talk about Violetta and Barbara’s friendship?! These two are absolute powerhouses, and I love them so much. They’ve been through it, and the way they have each other’s backs? Chef’s kiss! This isn’t just some mafia book with your typical storylines—this is raw, intense, and completely unique.

While I was reading, it played out in my head like a full-on movie. I’m talking Fried Green Tomatoes meets Goodfellas with a dash of The Godfather—and not in a romanticized, glorified way. One thing I seriously respect about this author is that she doesn’t sugarcoat or glamorize the mafia. Nope, she keeps it real.

If you love mafia books that actually do something different, have strong female friendships, and give you that cinematic experience, get this book ASAP. You will not regret it!

I enjoyed this book, a lot. I love how much themes it explored and how it the book isn’t affraid to explore many different directions. They are all things that I enjoy reading about in books, so I had a very good time reading this book. I loved how this book always had me guessing what would happen next, that made the book so much more fun to read.

I really loved the writing in this book. It was just really pretty and it was such a joy to read. It gave the book since a nice and airy ambiance and it just complimented the book very well.

I just had so much fun reading this book and i’m so excited to see where the second book in this series takes me.

I received an arc of this book and this is my honest opinion

I have literally dropped my Kindle on me at this ending! I’m just so happy that there will be another read-along for book two that I will participate in. I just can’t wait any longer!

This was such a spectacular and adventurous story, sometimes stressful and emotional but so good and worth it. In the beginning I needed some time to really get into the story but after that it was so intriguing and brilliant!

I really really enjoyed my time with this book and I would highly recommend reading it!

Wow this book was a wild ride unlike anything I have read in a long time. You follow the journey of a young girl growing up in the country and is forced in to an arranged marriage with a mafia boss. She looses her love of her life and she has to learn a life that she never wanted with someone she doesn’t love. Her trials and tribulations and her journey back to happiness and you also see a pov of her as an elderly woman passing knowledge to someone that never thought she would have as much in common with as they do. This book is emotional and an adrenaline rush all in one!!! #MindBlown #QueenOfSecrets #EJTanda

Queen of Secrets by E.J. Tanda

It was exciting to have Queen of Secrets recommended to me as much of the story is set in the east foothills of San Jose in the 1930’s. Familiarity makes the book very special. Queen of Secrets is a book written stylistically as a story within a story. Both narrations carry the same motif of spousal abuse. The first narration begins with Barbara, an R.N. who specializes in geriatric care. The second narration is that of her patient, Violetta Giordano. The book is heavily weighted toward the narration of Violetta who is former Mafia queen. She chooses to share her fiery history with Barbara, her caregiver who had been sworn to secrecy…thus the title.

Violetta’s narration is a very graphic telling of her complex life and her forced involvement with the violent Brooklyn mafia. All this transpires despite her tranquil upbringing in the east foothills of what was at that time called The Valley of Heart’s Delight. Sadly, Violetta’s life was anything but a delight. Crime entanglements followed her father from Sicily to San Jose and ultimately dictated her future. Passionately in love with an immigrant boy from Sardegna, Violetta rebelled against her father’s arranged marriage in a most uninhibited way; but ultimately to no avail. To keep peace between two crime “families” Violetta was “sacrificed” to an unwanted and doomed marriage.

Violetta’s life in New York as the wife of an important member of a Brooklyn crime family certainly has its perks. We find Violetta slowly adapting, sometimes a little too well. Despite her name, Violetta is by no means a shrinking violet. In fact she is one tough woman, actually quite well-suited to her situation. Clearly and admittedly, however, she never loved, or even liked, her husband, a violent somewhat stupid, filthy-mouthed, murderous drunk.

Chapters returning to Barbara don’t offer much relief because Barbara is in a dangerously abusive relationship. She is a conflicted woman with a boatload of responsibilities that immobilizes and traps her. Eventually the crusty, elderly Violetta realizes Barbara’s situation, empathizes, and a bond forms. This ultimately leads to a dramatic and climactic melding of their lives in an explosive conclusion.

Character development in both stories is extremely commendable. The characters fully blossom as we read. We feel their motivation, their anger, their frustration, and true angst. Queen of Secrets would easily transfer to a riveting R-rated film. It’s all there: love, betrayal, the underworld, passion, violence, conflict and resolution.

In Queen of Secrets the Mafia is not presented as a major player in San Jose. But evidently there were some ties to New York crime families. Author Tanda clearly researched the topic. The author is especially commended for not glorifying the mafia. The men are chauvinistic, crude and cruel. The women are sad individuals enjoying the only benefit of the life of crime- wealth and material goods. These poor women are utterly devoid of self-respect.

Author Tanda’s attempt to spell out the accents of the immigrants as well as the New Yorkers was quite successful and easy to read.

The series will continue, and we can only hope for Violetta and Barbara to find a bright and rewarding future.

In closing there is with one caveat in the author’s own words: “The book contains mature content which may be disturbing to some readers.”

This story was not what I expected and I’m happy about that. Told in a duel timeline, Violetta reveals what it takes to be a Mafia Queen.

When Barabra receives a request to care for Violetta Giordano for a ridiculous amount of money she finds the offer hard to refuse. The money will let her pay for her daughter's schooling, her son’s basketball equipment, and her long-time boyfriend's gambling addiction. The only catch, she can’t share anything about what the senile Violetta may say to her about her life, even if it means she’s a danger to others. But who could say no to that amount of money? Signing the NDA she takes off to care for this feisty old woman and thinks how hard can it be.

Hard. Violetta is mean, often volatile, and doesn’t let Barabra hide from herself or her truth. And just when Barabra has had enough, Violetta shares her pain, pain that was decades in the making. Jumping between 1939 and 2002 Violetta weaves a story of survival, about giving what you owe and taking what's owed to you. Connecting on shared experiences, Barabra and Violetta create an unbreakable bond, even when Barabra's present demands retribution. It’s a story about the strength of women and the sacrifices they make for family.

I loved the duel timelines. Each woman narrates their own story from their present - Violetta in 1939 and Barabra in 2002. It made the story clean and easy to immerse yourself into both stories without losing anything from the other. (Although I would have liked a chapter or two more in Barabra’s POV/timeline.)

Violetta is such a strong character and her life story is so fascinating. She reminded me of Danarys in the first book of, A GAME OF THRONES. They had a similar start with similarities throughout their stories. Although Violetta is kinda a weaker version of Dynaraus, she didn’t have any dragons with her, I was okay with it. She made the best out of her situation and took life punches. I didn’t like all the choices she made but that is what made her such a complex character.

Her and Gaetano's romance is so sweet. Seriously goals. They have the whole Romeo and Juliet thing going on but in a more realistic and modern setting. While they have the tragic pining love it’s not overly dramatic like Shakespeare, it's more gritty and honest than that.

This is the first of a duology so the story was left unfinished with some loose ends not tied up but I’m excited to continue and see what happens next.

From the very first page, Queen of Secrets had my full attention. I was instantly invested in the intertwined stories of senior caretaker, Barbara Jackson, and her new charge, former mafia royalty, Violetta Giordano. The drama, the romance, the struggle, and the bravery in these pages is addictive. I could hardly put this book down!

If I’m being honest, my favorite chapters of the story are the ones describing Violetta’s past. I was enthralled watching her fall in love with “her Guy” Gaetano between the prune trees of the Antonelli farm. My heart raced as she took her future in her own hands and made boss moves to make sure she and Gaetano could be together forever. My heart broke as I watched Vi’s family take steps to make sure that that exact outcome could never happen. 😭

I also enjoyed how Barbara’s present situation drew so many parallels to Violetta’s past. Even through the murkiness of Alzheimer’s, Violetta was still able to use the stories of her life (as well as call in some favors) to help Barbara out of the dire situation she was facing. Through this experience, they became not only friends, but family to one another, which was beautiful to read about. 🫶

Just when I thought the story was over, author E.J. Tanda casually dropped a bombshell in the epilogue! It turns out, that we’ve only heard HALF of the stories of Violetta’s past! 🤯 You better believe that I’ll be picking up Crown of Confessions! I NEED to know if Gaetano and Vi made their way back to each other! 😭

In the pages, you will find:

🔪 The Mafia
❤️ First Love
🚫Forbidden Love
💍Arranged Marriage
🌶️Spice
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Strong Family Ties
🩸Violence
💪Strong Women
📖An addictive story you won’t want to put down!

Wowee! I couldn’t put this book down. Despite its richness in detail and multiple storylines, Tanda's storytelling made it feel remarkably succinct. Queen of Secrets effortlessly visits various themes and events and despite this, I never felt overwhelmed, lost, or confused at any point in the story.

The dual timeline with Barbara’s story and Mrs. G’s (Vi) story was brilliantly executed. I felt for Barbara and I was glad she was able to build her relationship with Mrs G - that part of the story was absolutely beautiful. Barbara’s story is one of sorrow, despair and triumph and I felt every emotion along the way. Then there was Vi’s story. Oh, Vi. I feel like there is so much more to Vi’s story still to come and I am here for it. What a life Vi had. Tanda expertly portrays Vi’s character from a young naive girl to a mature woman who can handle anything. I really felt like I was with Vi on her journey, in the moment with her, feeling her feelings and seeing the world through her eyes.

While the male characters play significant roles, they generally embody harsher traits, contrasting with the theme of female strength prevalent throughout the book. I did, of course, simply love Gaetano and the way he was with Vi. I felt his love, I was rooting for him the whole story!

It's hard to go too deep in my review without risking spoilers, but I wholeheartedly recommend this book. It seamlessly blends multiple genres—historical fiction, romance, and crime—without losing its identity.

The depth of themes of the story is remarkable, with Tanda handling heavier subjects with sensitivity and coherence. A quick note: be sure to check the content warnings before diving in!

11/10 for this story from me, I am so keen to read number 2 now!!

While I have read a few Mafia Romances before and
a lot of Dark Romances this was the first one that had a historical aspect to it so I wasn't quite sure what to expect going in but what an amazing read it turned out to be.

I absolutely loved the way the author presented this story over two timelines, we follow Violetta from a young girl in the 1930's facing an arranged marriage to protect her family up until the present day when the elder Vi is being cared for by Barbara, the author also used a Dual POV with the past being told through Vi's eyes & the present through Barbara's, this was such a clever way of telling the story & really helped me connect with the characters. The relationship between these two women was truly beautiful & seeing the bond grow between them was probably my favourite aspect of this read. While very different people they have many similarities, both are strong, resilient, loyal and have overcome their individual traumas which helps form that strong bond.

I loved the Mafia/Sicilian aspects to this book, there was so much detail right down to the Sicilian families material possessions and the food they ate, I could hear the Italian accents in my head, you can really tell that the author put so much research into this book.

While at the core Queen of Secrets is a true celebration of the resilience & strength of woman throughout the generations it is also a heartbreaking & tough read at times with hard topics covered, but you will be rooting for both woman throughout the tough & heartwarming moments and thankfully this isn't the end, I already cannot wait to read book two.

A fantastic, clever, well written book with amazing characters & a brilliant storyline, you will struggle to put this one down.

I received this as an ARC from NetGalley and Sweet Violette Publishing.

We were like most Mafia families, praying for our salvation in hopes of absolving us from our sins.

This was a really interesting take on Mafia life as a woman. Violetta was a captivating narrator, and I enjoyed how the book switched between her and Barbara's POVs, with Violetta telling her story of lost love and an arranged marriage into the Mafia, and Barbara reflecting on the similarities of her own life when compared to Violetta's. Although I enjoyed Barbara's narration most of the time, I wasn't as drawn into it as I was with Violetta's character (of course, this could be due to the nature of Violetta's story). Barbara's story really picks up at the end, which made for an exciting and suspenseful last few chapters.

It was one thing to be married to a gangster. It was an entirely different thing to live like one.

I thought that the story and plot of the book were both well-thought out and executed, but I had a hard time getting into the story initially because of some of the writing at the beginning. It seemed a bit choppy and staccato at first, and I found myself wanting a bit more detail and backstory for Barbara, but this improved towards the middle of the book and continued to get better throughout the end. I thought the book ended on a great note of new beginnings and hope, and it left me wanting to know more. Overall a 3.5 star read for me.

I have read many Mafia stories over the years, but NOTHING like this!

The story revolves around Violetta and her tumultuous love.

Based in the 1930s, we see Vi as a young girl having met the love of her life and what happens when she is forced into an arranged marriage to save her family. She retells her story later on in her life to Barbara, a lady who comes to take care of her.

I absolutely adored this story, and I also love how E.J. Tanda allowed Vi to tell her story to Barbara within the book rather than the book just being 100% about Vi. It's a beautiful relationship between mother and daughter, not limited by blood, which I enjoyed!

E.J. Tanda sucks you into the story and into the fascinating world of the Mafia in the 30s! The amount of research for this alone must have been some undertaking!

We did leave on a small hook, though, so I am very desperate to read Queen of Confessions, which is Book 2 in the Mafia Matriach Series, to find out more about Vi and her loves.

This is a story of love, passion, just, cunning, and above all of 2 strong women separated by generations but united with life experience.

While there are trigger warnings and I'd aimed at 18+, this is a fantastic story and one that would a vast array of genre lovers will enjoy!

Highly recommend!

The author has written some amazing, multi dimensional characters. I absolutely adore Violette. I suspect that in real life I would be absolutely terrified of her. I used to care for a relative with dementia, and whilst she was not a Mafia wife, I could still see elements of her behaviour in Violette.
Barbara is everything a carer should be. Kind, non-judgemental but firm.
The relationship between this two women builds slowly into something special. Their bond, born of shared experiences and trauma just gets stronger every day.

Of course there's a whole host of other characters. Guy is lovely. Frank is not. A lot of them are so complex, products of their time and place. Even the ones I hated had some redeeming features.

The book is cleverly written as a dual timeline, multi narrator story. The way the similarities between the women's stories was fantastic. The sections that were written as if spoken by an Italian immigrant were so clever, I could almost hear their accents in my head. It was also a really good way of showing how they settled into their new life by learning the language.

Queen of Secrets is probably the best Mafia story I've ever read. It felt like I really got to know what life is really like for those involved, and how hard it might be to leave. I can't wait to see what happens next for Vi and her Guy.

So, this book has a beautiful, yet somewhat chilling cover..you see it and wonder just what the book could really be about. The title and blurb elude to secrets and maybe some quite dark ones, but they don't begin to prepare you for the queen.
She is definitely the height of this book. She has a way of letting go of the darkest secret, but doing so in a way that makes it seem as though she just mentioned the name of her cat. There is just something about the character that Tanda created and the beauty in her depth and strength that are wonderful.
I loved the way the story unfolded, so much so that I am completely hooked and already keen to read the second book. It is just beautifully written and tells the story of so many who were the forefront of the mob scene, but were always ignored. They had to show the same strength and ability to remain stum when told, but never were given the same limelight or benefits as the men were. Now we get to hear all the juicy details, even if some are a bit on the dark side.
I liked the whole premise of the book as well, with it starting off so simple and then becoming so much more. Overall, it was written wonderfully and I look forward to seeing more from this author.

This is my introduction to E.J and this book was amazing. The story has two timelines: we go between the early 1940’s which gives us Violetta’s POV and the present day we get Barbara’s POV in the present day. This book has so many great themes such as romance, friendship, suspense, mystery, betrayal, lies and shattering heartbreak. Violett’as and Barbara start off on a rocky road but they slowly build a beautiful friendship based on similar life experiences. Violetta’s life early on was heartbreaking, as a young woman she went through so much it makes you feel for her. You feel for the main character and all she went through as a young adult and to me it made it easier to understand her motives later in life. When you think of a Mafia Queen you think of someone who listens to what they are told and is meek. Violetta came into her own and showed her strength when the time came. A great book to show how strong women are and how they are stronger than anyone when it comes to family. To me this is a great story of friendship and finding that friendship in a person and place you never expected.

This book was surprisingly very good, who doesn't love a good 1940's mafia story. I loved how the author told this story in two timelines and tied them together perfectly. You can't pick the family you are born into, but you can rise above it and be better for it. The bond between Violetta and Barbara is perfect, sometimes when you pray for angel the angel is not at all who you imagined.

Violetta knows her family has Mafia ties she sees what her father does for them, she loves her family, but she imagines a different life for herself. This life she imagines includes the love of life handsome immigrant named Gaetano. But all that changes when her father forces her into arranged marriage to a crime boss to secure their family. She hastily agrees and then her life has a Mafia wife begins, can she play the game to survive, or will this be how it all comes crumbling down?
Love this book, I am looking forward to reading the second book.

I love Dark Romance as a genre, but, this is the first Mafia Romance I have read and I am definitely converted, I loved it.

The story is well written with a compelling and riveting plot line that made me not want to put it down, i almost finished it in one sitting, but made my self pace myself. The characters were well developed and I loved both Vi and Barbara. I also really liked the dual timeline and the use of dual point of view in the book, with the present day being told from Barbara's point of view who was caring for Vi and the historical point of view from 1940, being told from the point of view of Vi. I love this technique in books as I feel like I get a real sense of what is going on and how the characters feel, think and why they are like they are.

This was a real heartbreaking read at times and I actually shed tears for Vi, I can't imagine what it must have been like for her. I really connected to her and had such a visceral reaction to the things she had been through. I was so invested.

This is the first book I have read by this author but it won't be my last

This is a story of two woman, vi and Barbara, who both have had similar experiences. This is a mafia romance and an historical one, which I wasn't sure I would enjoy, I love mafia romance, but not the biggest fan of historical. But this story worked so well, I really enjoyed it.

The duel POV along with the different timelines, worked really well and the story flowed nicely and made the experience of reading it that much better. I was immediately sucked into to vi's story and the book also had a little mystery as to how it would end.

Obviously being that it's a mafia romance, the book does contain a few TWs and it touches on some dark subject matter, but having said that, it's written beautifully and and in such a respectful way, that it doesn't distract from the story, but adds to it, making it an enjoyable, but at times very sad read.

I loved watching the two women getting closer as the story progresses and seeing how each of them found comfort from the other. Overall this was a beautifully written story, that I was hooked on right from the start, I cannot wait for book 2!

The cover photo of the book is absolutely gorgeous and the title also intrigued me into reading this book. It was such an interesting kind of read for me.

This narrative unfolds the tenacity of two distinct women, each carving their own path through life's battles. Despite their contrasting beginnings, they discover shared threads of connection deeper than they initially imagined. At its heart, this tale is about the pursuit of love and the courage to claim what one is rightfully due. The anticipation for the sequel is palpable, and I wholeheartedly endorse this inspiring read.

The writing skills of the author are flawless and through her Captivating writing style I could imagine what all Vi had to go through. It was such an emotional read for me. I was really engaged in reading this book and when it ended I was like I wanted to read some more. Absolutely gorgeous story I will recommend it to everyone. Grab your copy today.

Ok…just wow!!

This book was fantastic! It was my first ever mafia romance book and I am now hooked and need more 😂.

This is dual timeline following the life of Violetta Giordana who grew up in the mafia community and who was forced to marry into it. You get to see her life from being a teenager on her parents dance to her being married off to a higher ranking member of the mafia community, to present day where she is an older woman being cared for by Barbara who has domestic troubles of her own she is dealing with.

I could not get enough of this story line. I had to force myself to stop reading to sleep! It kept me engaged from the first page and I am so freaking excited for book 2!

Do check trigger warnings for this book, but if you enjoy mafia romances then you NEED to pick this one up!

It's really interesting to see the point of view from a Mafia wife forced into that life.
The tale flicks forward and backwards from the late 30s/early 40s of Violetta's young adulthood to the present day of 2003, where she's cared for by a woman called Barbara.
Both women come to realise how much they need each other, and a beautiful relationship is formed between them.
There's some disturbing themes throughout, violence, abuse , physical, sexual and mental - late miscarriage, addiction, death, corruption, domestic violence, and crime. This is not to be underrated. It's tough to read, but it has been handled well.
Things seemed to be wrapping up well, but there seems to be a lot of history that Violetta still needs to relieve herself of.
I'm looking forward to seeing where the series continues.

This was my first Mafia Romance book and I really, really enjoyed it! I enjoyed the two different point of views and how we reflected back on Violetta’s life in the past and the many different experiences that she went through, also Barbara’s current life experiences and how they were both very similar to each other. The story felt very authentic, almost like a memoir. I enjoyed listening along with Barbara as Violetta told us her story… I could literally smell Frank when I was reading about him 🥃🚬. He was a very unlikeable character, from the moment he entered the story! My heart really did go out to Violetta and the things she was forced to endure.

The epilogue was sweet and I am really looking forward to reading the next book and hopefully hearing more of Violetta and Guys story! I am also intrigued to find out what Barbara does next with her life!

I loved how the story started off and comes off almost memoir-like as we dive into Violetta’s story. Violetta was an absolutely wonderful, captivating narrator and kept my attention from start until the very last pages.

I felt like the plot was well thought out and the pacing was just right. I love a good mafia novel and this fit the bill, and without shock value, the story felt very real and authentic in nature. This was by far, absolutely emotional and broke my heart at moments through out the story.

Once Violetta was on her own without her family in New York, seeing her toughen up and grow into the mob boss wife life had me screaming. Down to where she threatened another woman?! Ahhhhh. A definite favorite moment of mine.

By the end, I loved how Vi and Barbara bonded over the recollection of Vi’s life story and all the harsh truths learned along the way.

I absolutely loved Miss G. I loved hearing her story and what she went through. How she still came out strong after all she endured just shows her true character.
Barbara was a true warrior and I loved how she and Miss G connected with each other. I loved how even though they weren't blood family that didn't matter Miss G was there for Barbara didn't have before.
Ahhh I can't say anymore without accidentally giving something away. I just know y'all need to get this book.
I can't wait for the next one. I already feel I'm forgetting what happened so I may have to refresh my mind.
I can't say enough good things about this read. The writing style was amazing. And I loved that it jumped back and forth between the then and now. So cool.
I feel like a broken record but I need yall to get this book!!!
