What if the fate of love was not written in the stars, but in your very blood? But in the realm of the Fae, nothing is as it seems. Not even love, not even fate… Since she was a child, eighteen-year-old Narcia has heard whispered voices from shadows that she alone can see– the only oddity in her otherwise normal life. Then, one autumn night her mother is murdered, her little brother Lee is kidnapped by the Fae and Narcia is swept into a world she didn’t even know existed. There she learns her absent father was Fae and on the royal council of a king, making Narcia one half each of two entirely different worlds. As she begins to learn the secrets of Fae court, she befriends Prince Damian, the only heir to the throne, who vows to help her save Lee from a strange ritual that will end in his death. All the while, Damian can’t seem to take his glowing golden eyes off her. And even she can’t deny the pull she feels towards him, as though it lives within her very blood. When the night of the ritual arrives, Narcia discovers a strange dark power that not only has the potential to save Lee but alter her place in the realm forever. But with power comes choice. The choice to love and to fight… or to let it consume her and leave everything she’s come to know behind.

I really enjoyed this book. Narcia is a well balanced main character with relatable inner struggles. The love interests were well done and the difference between them were understandable, especially when it came to their ages and choices that they made. The magic system was very interesting and though we did not get to see a wide range of abilities, it’s a magic system that I want to see more of. The animal/fae was a nice variation on the classic fae. Writing was very well done. There were a few printing or editing issues but nothing that took me out of the moment.

Only a few negative comments, I wasn’t a fan of the romantic scenes. They were a little lack luster for me and some of the conversations during these scenes was a little off putting and kinda ruined one of the love interests for me.

I would have liked Narcia to be a little more curious about where her father was from and there for where her powers came from. I also wish she would have looked into finding out who killed her mother…but maybe those questions will be answered in book two.

Going in blind to a book sometimes absolutely pays off. And it did here. I don't even know how to talk about it because I am still reeling on the rollercoaster of emotions and how much Rachel packed in however many pages.
I will say I had to push through the beginning a few chapters (just when she is in the human world) and the book needed more editing, but looking past those bits, it was a captivating read. Very soon I was deeply invested in the characters and what was going to occur next.
One minute I was rolling my eyes THINKING I knew where the story was going to go and then- BAM - I was very wrong.
There is endless fantasy politics, romance, magic, everyone is morally grey / a monster in someone's eyes, and.... SHE is the one with shadow powers. A line that is sound countless times throughout the book and I think sums it up so well: "Do not trust anyone in the court.... not even yourself."

This book was a whirlwind! If you love Sarah J Maas's A Court of Thorns and Roses series, I think you'll enjoy this. It has taken up most of my daily reading time on the bus to work over the last few days, and I haven't been able to put it down. Very lucky to have received an arc copy for this one, and although I found it a bit slow to get into to start with, (and got distracted by other projects) I'm so glad I went back to it and got sucked right in again! If you love anything to do with fairytales, smutty romance books with charming Fae princes, give this one a try. I definitely wasn't expecting the book to go the way it did in terms of the romances, but I found myself really loving both love interests and stuck between them until we saw different sides of them. Narcia is a great MC, and although I thought her decisions were a bit rash at times, I loved her spirited nature and determination to keep going. Overall, a great read for fantasy romance lovers.

Kinda gets like the whole acotar series put in one book with a “bad” guy that we didn’t get a reason to hate. Felt really rushed and I would have loved it more if it was a series.

I really enjoyed this book! In the first couple of pages I was hesitant about starting this read. After reading a couple of chapters I was absolutely hooked. The world building in this is done well and there is lots of enjoyable fantasy elements. Enemies to lovers, soul mates, discovering hidden family secrets and learning to use an untapped power. The pacing was enjoyable but part of me was wishing for a bit more.

A solid read and I completely recommend it. I finished the whole book in about two days and couldn’t put it down.

This should have been a series instead of three books worth of drama crammed into one book, with most of the drama happening in the last 20%. The storyline literally gave me whiplash.
By the end, I just hated everyone & everything. This had such good potential and the author alluded to seeing the same characters in the future, but I haven't seen anything redeeming yet.

I was unsure when I first started this book, but I ended up really enjoying it and being excited to read more about Narcia's story. I won't spoil anything, but I was really not expecting the plot twist, but I was honestly so happy about it. I didn't like the way the story was going before and I think it worked out so well in the end. I did notice some spelling/grammar errors, but overall it was a really good book. I'm excited to see where the story goes!
