Midnight Kisses

Rate this book
What do a cat, a one-night stand, and a game of Catan all have in common? Love.

Despite being the football coach’s daughter, Greta Sahnoun resents the sport and is furious when her best friend mistakes a football house party for a frat kegger. Instead of mingling inside, Greta seeks solitude in the backyard and, not surprising to anyone that knows her, winds up kissing the jaded stranger outside with her. A little dry humping and a brief exchange about cats later, the two wind up in her apartment for a night of casual, raunchy fun.

Otis Morgan is a Heisman-winning quarterback with a bad knee and a penchant for being in love. He’s a little full of himself and craves attention, but that’s expected of a collegiate NFL recruit. When Greta refuses to see him again after their night together, it’s no surprise that he takes it hard and says things he shouldn’t, and because the universe is out to get him, Greta overhears. Always one to put people in their place, she wagers a bet with Otis, one that ends with the good kind of choking.

Suddenly, what’s supposed to be a just-one-more-time lapse in judgment turns into a recurring mistake, one they both enjoy immensely. But like all relationships, the two hit an impasse. Greta has never been good with emotions—feeling them, dealing with them, and most of all, surrendering herself to them.

They say love hurts, so maybe it’s a good thing Greta enjoys a little pain.

I loved it so much Gahh this was so good.

I’m kicking myself for not finishing this sooner. Nobody understands my obsession with GretaOtis my loves <3

Even though it took me a while to finish, it didn’t take away from the experience this book gave me. 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗜’𝗱 𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘂𝗽 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲.

These characters were one of the most relatable I’ve read. And it got me kinda emotional too which was a nice shock.

𝗚𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗮 is difficult to like sometimes but she’s always so unashamedly herself no matter the consequences which was prime entertainment for me lol. She’s hilarious and I loved her character development. It was a journey watching her grow and learn. 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐎𝐧𝐠.

Going through those periods with them was gutting bc I hated what happened but the grovelling?? 𝑫𝑬𝑳𝑰𝑪𝑰𝑶𝑼𝑺.

I’m normally good at predicting what’s gonna happen in romance books but this one surprised me time and again.

I love the author’s writing and how she brought out the good and the ugly in all the characters. And the fact that this is a debut is amazing! I can’t wait to read more of her work in the future.

So 𝘔𝘪𝘥𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘒𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴 is a new obsession. I loved every second of this book.

It follows Greta, an ice queen with commitment issues who doesn’t do football players AND the coach’s daughter, and Otis, QB1 soft boy with a dominant and jealous streak. After hooking up one night at a party without exchanging names, they decide to become friends with benefits (and Greta is hellbent on zero commitment). And, you know how the story goes…

I really loved every single character in this book. There is so much depth for an author-categorized erotica. Greta and Otis have to heal and take steps to become better people for themselves, not just each other. I felt every emotion under the sun while reading. It’s definitely a character driven book with amazing development. AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT THTHE GROVELING?! THE FLOWERS? Ugh.

I highly recommend this book if you love the vibes of Icebreaker and the Playing for Keeps series. It’s emotional, funny, and hot.

This book has everything
💜 friends with benefits to lovers
💜 he falls first and HARD
💜 college football
💜 QB1 x coach’s daughter
💜 she’s an ice queen, he’s a simp
💜 diverse characters and queer rep
💜 mental health and grief rep
💜 spicy af

Two people really grappling with a lot of pain and residual trauma from their lives find each other and through their relationship are forced to deal with and come to terms with their choices.

This book was really raw. Unflinchingly honest and shows you the good and the really really ugly. It was hard to read sometimes bc of how brutally honest it was but ultimately I really loved it. The two main characters are well written and I loved how the writer really does not romanticize their flaws but reflects them in all their ugly glory and embraces them. Greta and Otis are true underdogs and you can't help but root for them and by the end you just completely fall in love with them both.

My main criticism is probably the writing style choice, a lot of things happen off the page. Important things that would have helped establish the relationship of the two MCs and instead we are told that something happened but not shown. And sometimes we are plopped into the middle of some action happening with no setup and it takes a minute and rereading to figure what's happening.

This book deals with some very serious themes so please check trigger warnings before you decide to read 💙💙

Shout out to my girl @Iqra for the awesome rec!!

I've seen a few authors do this, so I thought I would, too. First off, I want to thank anyone who wants to give this book a chance, regardless if you DNFed or not. Next, I want to just mention that this book won't be for everyone, from its length to the flawed college characters to its content—and if you’re a skim or dialogue reader, then this definitely isn’t for you. Yes, it's a spicy Romance, but it's also about people that make mistakes and are discovering themselves. Greta and Otis are two college kids trying hard to find their footing in life, while also falling in love—and coming to terms with what that really means (hence why it's an emotional slow burn). Regardless, if you end up giving this novel a chance, I hope you guys enjoy it! Please do not read if you're underage, as the sexual content and conflicts discussed might not be digested and understood in its intended manner.

Thanks again, and happy reading.

the best way to explain the feeling this book gave me is that it scratched an itch in my brain. i loved everything about this book from the characters, the plot, the writing, and my absolute favorite: the formatting

the chapter names and the end of chapter playlists, reminders, text messages, emails >> still in awe of the attention to detail jeany put into this book that made it so addicting

i loved the dynamic between otis (a golden retriever) and greta (a grump) so much. they go through some of the best character development i’ve ever read and i truly appreciate how real their struggles in life were, it adds that emotional depth i look for in romance books

♡ tropes: college football romance. coach’s daughter. friends with benefits. reverse grumpy x sunshine. (spice level HIGH)

LET ME START BY SAYING THAT FOR A DEBUT NOVEL THIS IS BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN!!! Jeanine you’re going places and loved how you wrote🫶

I love the characters. They are deeply flawed and their problems hit to close too home *cough* Otis *cough* It’s a very character driven book and with such a real connection. I loved that. The reason it doesn’t have 5 stars it’s because Otis had some red flags but i’m glad he got the help and still making improvements.

The pace, in the middle part, got slow. It helped for character development and getting to know the characters but it got slow. I will considered this a slow burn but not your typical one. If you read it, you’ll know what i’m talking about.

ALSO, I cried for like three chapters straight. It’s not the typical erotica, it has sad moments.

Anyways, loved it and i’m so excited for her next book especially her formula one <3

♡ rant and rave about mk until everyone is sick of me

this follows greta (the coaches daughter) and otis (the star quarterback) in a steamy friends with benefits college romance. they meet at a party, have a one-night stand and then think they'll never see eachother again until otis runs into her at coaches house and discovers his own personal hell. that she is infact his daughter. they continue sneaking around with a fwb arrangement but lines get blurred

despite this book being literally 500+ pages i didnt want it to ever end and wanted more + more. it was SO easy to get caught up in the story + characters it did not feel long at all. such addicting writing style

MK is very spicy, if that isnt for you then dont read but if it is for you BUCKLE UP !!

i swear i melted into a puddle 68 times at least. the last 20% felt like id be shoved in a blender and turned to mush. giggling screaming and kicking my feet throughout the whole 531 pages. i did indeed sob my eyes out at one point

these characters were unapologetically themselves, flawed + so real. the story explored their struggles within themselves + their families, some of the best character development from the main characters but also some of the side characters.
(check tw)

jeany bloody b i adore you + your brain !! you guys this was a debut novel and it was SO well written, very character driven + like i said, the writing style is so easy to get sucked into. i also loved the additions to the end of the chapters! there were notifications, to do lists, emails etc which made the story that much more real. jeany i cant wait to devour more of your work in the future !!

midnight kisses follows greta and otis who have a one night stand where they don’t share their names expect for their middle names or who they even are. fast forward a couple days, otis runs into greta at his coach’s house hoping she is not who he thinks she is. because hello? HE’S OBSESSED WITH HER PLEASE NO DONT LET HER BE THE COACH’S DAUGHTER!! expect she is 🤭

i am obsessed with this book. otis and greta had me laughing my a** off! they have some of the best freaking banter i have ever read about and i could not get enough of them😭. grumpy greta and sweet otis are just so hilarious. on top of that, THE TENSION AND CHEMISTRY BETWEEN THESE TWO WAS ON FIREEEE! i was rooting for them since their first late night talking sesh which was so fcking cute by the way🥹. these two are everything and more. i adore them so much & will miss reading about their adorable dynamic and crazy banter. they deserve all the happiness in the world. and special thanks to jeanine for sending me a copy of her book🤍 i will forever hold these two close to my heart🤍

I am so conflicted by this book, so I am going to give it a solid 2.5 rating.

The start of this book was amazing. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Greta and Ottis, but then as the book went on, I grew to not like either of them.

Ottis was just too much for me. I mean I shouldn't be saying anything because I literally like Dark Romance and those men are just insane, but this dude was just TOO MUCH. His emotions were on HIGH 24/7. I mean I understand why Great kicked him out after their one-night stand, and then he had the audacity to call her a bitch? He also thinks his behavior should be excused when he was with Autumn is just crazy to me. Yea we get it, you were hurt badly, but does this mean you need to be an asshat to the girl you with NO. This book also made me realize I do not like sappy men (in books least.) This dude cried when Greta said she liked him. Like dude WHAT. Also, he literally proposed only 5 months of dating which is CRAZY. He needs to continue to be in therapy for a LONG ass time.

Greta, I did not like her because I thought she was just plain out rude. I thought she was rude to most of the people she talked to, and I just did not like her attitude. She was never clear about her emotions with Ottis until the very end of the book. WHICH are 500+ pages. One of the reasons I am giving this book 3 stars is due to the scenes with her Dad, and her brother's cemetery. I cried, so when I cry during a book, it deserves some ratings.

Ottis and Greta's relationship is just two emotionally unstable horny college students falling in love. That is literally the sum of their relationship.

Her eyes tear from me to stare at the patterns of my sheets, and so quietly that I have to lean forward to catch her words, she devastates me, collapsing my reality into hers, the boundaries between our worlds intertwined.
"I don't want you to wait and hope for what you already have."
She raises her eyes to mine, and the hesitation is gone. Her face is luminous with—with fuck—whatever it is that makes her existence the very light of my life.☹️

But I’m giddy and thrilled because of how this gorgeous boy with soulful eyes and a deep, dimpled smile is squeezing himself into my life and offering me a type of comfort and company I didn’t realize I wanted.

they’re so perfect your honour.

Midnight Kisses follows our two main characters Greta and Otis. Both start a fwb relationship but as they continue feelings start to blur.

I can't really pin point my feelings about this book and character. I didn't love it but I also didn't hate it. One one hand, it was one of the most sex positive, lgbtq positive and diverse books I've read in a while. However, these reasons don't take away the fact that I found it hard to connect to both Greta and Otis.
Greta was a character who's behaviour I could not understand. She was very contradicting and borderline rude. At first I figured it might be because of her event she experienced in her past and that we would get to that but nope that just her character. What she wanted was also not always clear (which fair enough - who actually knows what they want) but it was very frustrating. We didn't get much into why she was that afraid of commitment which I think would've made her character more 3 dimensional.
Otis was also a character who I didn't click with. We was supposed to be "sunshine" but I didn't get that vibe from him. At some point he would also be rude to "football fans" which I don't understand why he does that. Also, the fact that I feel like Otis suddenly was in love with Greta was very sudden. Greta was giving him nothing and then suddenly he was in love with her.
Overall, the pacing wasn't the most consistent and I unfortunately felt like there was a lack of character development from both of them.

Thank you for Jeanine for providing me and ARC for an honest review.

THE WAY I DEVOURED THIS. Wow.

Okay absolutely loved this one. This is an EROTIC sports romance. There is a lot of sex and dirty shit, it’s not just romance. If that isn’t your cup of tea; don’t read and don’t complain about all the smut in it lol.

IF THAT IS YOUR CUP OF TEA: I love my babies. Otis and Greta meet at a party and spend the night together. Exchanging middle names and keeping it as formal as you could with a one night stand. But that doesn’t last…

I truly loved this book. It was funny, hot, sexy and deep all in one. It deals with family trauma, self reflection and just a whole lot of admitting when you need help and are in the wrong.

If you’re looking for a fun, sexy, college sports romance between the goofy giant 6’5 quarterback and the serious, confident and determined coach’s daughter: SIGN YOURSELF UP.

Tropes:
College Sports romance
Erotic romance
Quarterback X coach’s daughter

I SURVIVED!!!
the way my expectations were so HIGH so y'all could've seen it from mars but god it was a disappointment of the century, this book has NO PLOT at all. I'm giving it 2 stars because I'm in a good mood today.

Looking for a new SPICY AF new adult college sport romance? LOOK NO FURTHER!

This book starts with a 16 PAGE SPICY SCENE!!! Woooof!! Jeannine Bennedict knows how to write hot af scenes that keep my attention the whole time. PLUS this book is SUPER k¡nk positive (which we always stan!)

Greta and Otis start a (kinda secret but not really) friends-with-benefits relationship after having an electric one night stand. AND I MEAN ELECTRIC. Their chemistry is off the charts in and out of the bedroom.

However…This book focus a lot on their relationship as well as their own personal struggles in college. Greta has a lot of commitment and trust issues since her brother died, and Otis has some anger management issues he has never been able to truly deal with. They are both flawed people who are not perfect by any means, and they constituently make mistakes. Which is what really stood out to me. Jeannine wasn’t afraid to show a relationship that went through a lot of struggles and with characters who had to take a step back and better themselves before they could move further. I also really appreciated all of Otis’ grovelling AND I MEAN GROVELLING after the third act break-up. It’s one of the few times I have really appreciated the way a third act break up was resolved without any complaints. (Did the breakup still hurt? Hell yes.)

The sport aspect is also a lot less than other sport romances i have read and it was really refreshing.

Overall, this is one of my fave new adult college romances! If you don’t pick it up, SMH.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading this book, but this was not it.

It was hot, it was funny, it was gut-wrenching, and it was exactly what I needed.

Otis and Greta were perfect. Otis was such a puppy and Greta a ball-buster. They balanced each other out in the best way. I loved seeing them grow and change and watch them fall in love.

I adored the relationships between the main characters and their families and friends. They were hilarious and slightly chaotic but also realistic and perfect in their own way. Seeing the relationship between Greta and her dad grow and bond over loss nearly killed me, but it’s one of the things that made this story so incredible.

3.5 stars rounded-up

It took me literal ages to finish this book, true, but tbh that's more on real life messiness than anything else. ALTHOUGH this book is kinda freakishly long for romance standards and tbh, not all of it was needed, were I an editor, I think I'd go crazy with that delete button and cut like 1/5 - 1/4 of it xD

Random thoughts, good and bad:

☛ sports romances that's more on the inclusive, sex-positive, anti toxic masculinity vibe

☛ boy falls first and it's splendid

☛ MCs that feel very honest, very raw, very flawed - and it's not only about sex and romance, it's also very much about their individual journeys

☛ writing was kind of chaotic at times and the flow between chapters did not always feel seamless, it's like an action skipped, but it was like a scratched CD kind of skip

☛ LOVED the FMC, Greta was just my kind of girl, scared of commitment, scared of feelings, guarded, doing her best to come off as unfeeling and tough, but being all messy inside and making messy decisions too

☛ ALSO, some folks will for sure be put off by this, but I loved that as a FMC, Greta was "allowed" to have a good, satisfying sex life outside of MMC, and she even had sex with someone else after they first hooked up (but before they entered any sort of exclusive relationship) - here, all my toxic double standard relationship traits are in the open, for all of you to see, because if it was written the other way around, I'd be LIVID and threw a book across the room, but since it was the girl getting some, I'm just chilling, all giddy and GOOD FOR HER

(but to be fair, this double standard stems almost solely from me being tired of decades and decades of sexist narrative where female characters must be chaste and devoted only to "The One" while the guy does what he wants when they're not together, so it's to even the score; and yes, also because I will always support women's wrongs 💁‍♀️)

☛ really appreciated how the narrative didn't excuse Otis' toxic behaviour, but at the same time, he wasn't vilified, it was really about showing: "here's this guy, he's so not perfect and he makes mistakes and he has issues, but it doesn't make him an inherently bad person" + there was a lot of focus on both him and Greta putting in the work to become better persons

Anyway, overall this was a good read, definitely different from your standard sports romance, and mostly in a good way. There was steam, there was fun, there was angst and even some tears. I'll be on the lookout for more from Jeanine Bennedict for sure, she's definitely an interesting, intriguing new voice in the romance community.

worst book i read in a looong time. was unnecessarily long and dragged all throughout. tried so hard to be cool but failed miserably. led me to a book slump for an entire month and i still have 32 books left to read this year to meet my challenge.

are we supposed to feel bad for Otis? like his back story with autumn just sounded like him being abusive to her and i can not sympathize with that. this book wad a whole lot of telling and not showing and it was so exhausting to read. i picked it up as a romance book to read in between a fantasy series i was reading and it just put me in a slump. greta was okay i guess i didn’t feel anything for her

I liked it! I read it in one sitting. Funny how they didn't want a relationship but ended up doing things that couples do. Before reading this, I was just expecting a nice and cute benefits to lovers... I did not expect all those emotional parts and guilt, so I was pleasantly surprised. It was nice how you get to see how is just not just sex scenes, they actually get to know each other and talk. I like how Greta and Otis are flawed characters in the process of healing, self-reflecting and trying to better themselves.

DNF at 40% - this was just weird in so many ways. Don’t have the mental energy to finish it.
