This series is nothing if it's not consistent. Every book delivers a quality story that is only let down by an over-reliance on action for the sake of action. That being said, this book is the closest I have come to giving a book in this series a 3-star review because in this book, I felt like it was a little too unbalanced in favour of this action over all else.
However, as with all of these books, it had a banger of an ending that left me excited to see what comes next in this series. That, combined with the fact that, despite its flaws, I feel like if I were to re-read this series in the future, I would happily read this book again, I will give it the benefit of the doubt and round up to 4 stars.
My hope for future books is that the author can learn to trust that he can write engaging scenes that aren't action-based (indeed the best scenes in these books tend to be the scenes that don't revolve around people kicking arse), and he doesn't need to rely on action just for the sake of having an action scene. If he did that, this series could ultimately level up to 5-star status. To be clear, I am not saying get rid of action altogether, but instead to ensure that the only remaining action is meaningful to the story.
