After narrowly escaping the Reawakening, Angel successfully delivered Vanessa to Molten Ridges with the help of Captain Silver.
He’d love to do nothing more than spent a year relaxing and studying Old World Magic, but he knows there can be no peace until the Reawakening are dealt with.
The Buried Gods walk the Barren once more, and the Reawakening’s plot runs far deeper than he ever could have imagine. A plan hundreds of the years in the making is only months from coming into fruition with only Angel standing in its way, but how can he deal with the Reawakening if he can’t even trust his own allies?
Actus has been writing fantasy stories since the age of twelve, and he's been telling them since he could talk. He's currently working on three main series - Morcster Chef, Steamforged Sorcery, and My Best Friend is an Eldritch Horror. You can find his works on RoyalRoad & Patreon as well as on Amazon.
In addition to his passion for writing, Actus is capable of clearing a two story building with a single jump. That isn't true, but writing about himself in third person gives Actus delusions of grandeur.
The series finds its footing in book two, with Actus widening the scope considerably; the Reawakening’s plot deepens into something menacing, and the introduction of the Buried Gods raises the stakes without losing the propulsive pacing that makes this genre work. Angel’s relationships sharpen, and the tension around fractured alliances gives the story a bit more of the edge that the first book lacked. The magitech system continues to reward attention, and the action sequences are tighter and more inventive. It’s the kind of mid-series installment that recontextualizes the opener and makes the finale worth anticipating.
I actually enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I had the book for a while and kept putting it off. It shows I can still try the author's other series.
Sadly the Chef Orc isn't for me, and I really don't want to read about some kid going to school with his Cthulhu friend.
I love the detailed technomagic in the setting, and Angel's drive to stop the nefarious Reawakening takes on new depth here- this isn't just chasing around the map after various relics, Angel develops further as a character. Lots of fun, looking forward to the next book!
This was a good entry in a very good series. Love the world and how well writen the story was. Cannot wait to learn about the world. Recommend to everyone
