2.5 stars rounded up. Hero's family was ruined by heroine's father's business partner (with the help of his evil mother). Heroine unknowingly grew up in the hero's family villa after her father and evil step mother married. Hero vowed revenge against the business partner and the heroine's father, so when his sister befriended the heroine, he decided to seduce her as step one to revenge.
Heroine was a virgin at the time. They had a lovely romance until the hero's sister was almost roofied and raped by the business partner. Hero realized he needed to get back on track with his revenge plan and left in the night, vowing more revenge. Heroine had no idea why the hero left in the middle of the night. This is the backstory.
Story opens four years later. Heroine is being pressured to marry her father's business partner so her trust fund can be administered. Seems her father embezzled funds and the business partner is going to turn him over to the police unless the heroine cooperates. Also, dear old dad is in the hospital and shouldn't be told any of this. Heroine agrees to this plan.
Later it turns out the father was not terminally ill, the business partner was the one embezzling funds and the stepmother was in on it. I bring that up now because it was beyond obvious and the heroine came off as TSL from the get go.
The hero has good reason to want revenge, but he is just as ridiculous in focusing on the heroine and not the business partner. His excuse? He fell in love with the heroine four years before but he couldn't handle it and looked for any excuse to break it off. Since then he has conflated the heroine with the actual bad guys.
So there should be some painful ambivalence to go with all the treacherous body syndrome (on both sides). Heroine had been betrayed by the hero so she should have been wary. Hero should have pangs of conscience in between his revengeful thoughts. The author knows this drill and tries to provide the ambivalence and the conflict of two very strong emotions (love vs revenge vs betrayal) but instead the H/h come across as wishy-washy.
The author actually did everything right for a revenge story, but I just wasn't feeling it. Even when the heroine finally called out the hero for turning into the man he hated and the hero feeling remorse, I was indifferent. Maybe the pacing?Maybe the actions don't support their words? For example, after the hero's evil plan is revealed, the heroine still had sex with him. And after the hero realizes he is a monster, it takes all of five minutes for him to drop years of animosity and grovel. And it goes without saying that it takes heroine ten seconds to forgive him. *sigh*

The hero here was really bad, but I could almost understand his reasoning. He is consumed with rage because the heroine and her family bought his family house and her father’s business partner destroyed his family. So now he wants revenge. Four years before he had an affair with the heroine thinking she was honest but someone told him she was involved with shady partner and so he dumped her without an explanation. Now he’s back and wants his revenge because in his opinion the heroine only was with him to get info about his lil sister and to tell them to shady partner who tried to drug and rape his sister. There’s a lot going on here, a very severe tbs, that was honestly eye rolling. Even when the heroine finds out his true intentions she keeps having sex with him, but why? This was beyond my understanding.
Only in the end he realizes his mistake and tries to make amend but imo the heroine forgave him too soon, he had to grovel for months since he misjudged her and treated her like dirt for a long time. Even if I found his obsession with revenge a bit too strained the book worked for me, he was always striving with his tender feelings for her and with his plan for revenge, it was clear that he was very much obsessed with her and his grudge was s great as was the hurt he felt when he thought she had deceived him so I could understand why he was so bitter. But in the end it was too rushed. There is not a mention about celibacy, which was ok to me, he doesn’t seem a womanizer and we actually don’t know if there were ow during their time apart, the heroine I think was celibate, but no mention of om or ow was a good thing for me. I don’t like comparisons, and when authors always make the hero compares his ow with the heroine even if it is in the past nd before they met I don’t feel comfortable. A good revenge story.

Marco is back in Claudia's world. Four years ago he believed that she had betrayed his sister while they were together. No he wants revenge. But what happens when he uncovers all the facts and they are not in his favor? Was she the one to deceive or was she, just as he was, just a piece in a bigger scheme of others plotting against them? She has been blackmailed to marry someone whom she can not stand to protect her father. He comes in and scopes her away before the marriage. What will happen now? I have the book and have read it several times before now.

He had shattered her heart, leaving her in doubt about their entire time together, plus she had lost a good friend in his sister, Bianca. Marco has lived with the destruction of his family at the hands of Primo Vasile. His entire focus has been to avenge his father's death, and revenge aginst his enemy. In his efforts to do just that, he believed Claudia had conspired with Primo to lead to the destruction of his sister. He never confronted her, but left in the night, vowing revenge.
As Marco once again spends time with Claudia, he realizes that the true woman was not capable of the deception he felt she had made. Once she understood he had been using her and why, Claudis confronted him, making him come to terms with the fact he had jusded her wrongly, and did so because he was afraid of the love he had for her.
Very well written. Fast-paced.
