Oh my gosh, my family had a field day with this one! I couldn’t wait to get this one in my hands because I have become friendly with the author- Mira Lyn Kelly on Tiktok. I love following her content and chatting with her!
The cover and title alone were a heck yes for me. I tried to time it with Christmas in July, so that fact that it was novella was perfect- I read it in an hour during a heat wave with the AC blasting away!
Dirty Christmas is a part of the Slayers Hockey series and can be read as a standalone. I have not read others in the series YET- emphasis on yet because this one was fantastic.
Okay so back to the plot. Noel is dragged to a random apartment where Diesel starts arguing with a woman. Noel gets into the building by following another resident, Misty, who happens to be roommates and sisters with the woman that is screaming at Diesel.
The bickering duo leave the building, promising they’ll be back soon, leaving Noel carless and with Misty. Though awkward at first, they decide to make the best of their forced hang-out until Noel can leave for the airport.
No surprise, but Diesel is no where to be found, and Noel is either the world’s biggest flirt or he’s fallen completely in love with Misty. She is hesitant, but is having fun, so she decides to loop him into her Christmas Eve preparations- including getting a tree for her parents’ house, since their flight doesn’t arrive until the next day- Christmas day.
Noel and Misty realize that not only is Noel going to miss the rest of the flights, but Diesel is NOT coming back anytime soon, so they decide to take the leap and just enjoy the night together.
Noel is your perfect golden retriever on the surface, which is an instant vibe for Misty. As they spend more time together, she learns about his past and some really tough things he’s had to overcome, and they just can’t help feeling like they’ve known each other for a very long time.
Mira Lyn Kelly packed so much in this little book!! I truly couldn’t put it down and I freakin’ loved it! I loved that there was no time for fluff like “I hardly know him” or “what are we doing” that tends to weigh down storylines. These two bonded quickly and their relationship was so much more than surface level despite truly only knowing each other for a few hours. When I finished the book, I didn’t even feel like it was a novella- it was complete the way she wrote it. Now, would I take more of Noel and Misty’s story? In an instant, but I never felt like anything was missing.
I am already looking forward to the rest of the series!
