This is a fun book with lovely lively poetry about he beauty of life in all of us. The drawings are very lovely and really illustrate what the poem is telling us. The story is one we need to tell children and also one to remind grown-ups. We got this book for my sister in law who recently had a leg amputation and has been in the hospital battling leukemia and depression. We are hoping this book will lift her spirits and remind her that there is beauty in us all and all the people who work with love and kindness!

Summary/Annotation: This is a magical story about an angel who comes to the narrator's sight. The narrator doesn't believe in angels. This beautiful angel introduces herself and gives a beautiful message to everything around her. She tells the animals that angels are everywhere in your everyday lives. Without even knowing it angels are always on your side spreading love, joy and peace for all.

Response: This was a beautiful storybook which had magical illustrations that went along with the story quite well. I liked how this book rhymed throughout the story. I really loved the quote in the book which said " you'll find all of us hard-working And barely recognize That as you live your own sweet life. We're right there by your side."( pg.20) I thought that was very sweet and hopeful. There is always an angel by your side spreading positive energy on you.
I awarded this book four stars because I really loved the presentation of the book. This book made me feel positive and happy. It feels good to read this book especially when you are feeling down. This book is great to make someone cheerful.

Classroom Connections: This book is wonderful to introduce to children. I would read this book aloud to my students and discuss the author's message through this book. I would ask my students how do they feel about angels. What do angels mean to them? I would then have students describe what would an angel look like to them and how would they be on their side. I would have students draw pictures and write a wonderful quote that would be meaningful to go along with their images. I think students would get a great opportunity to explore their imaginations through drawings and thinking about important messages that they can create. This would help students be aware that books sometimes do give us important advice and values which we can learn from and use in our own lives. I also think this book is great for teaching students about rhyming words as well.

Text Complexity: Lexile.com didn't provide any measure for this book. I would recommend this book for students to read aloud kindergarten through second grade. This book seems appropriate for these students. Depending on the grade level lesson plans should be adjusted.
