I planned to ride a cowboy...and I found my new Daddy. Declan’s dreams are all coming true. He has a top-rated interior design show, endorsement deals, and his own line of home decor in the works. He just didn’t realize those dreams would consume him. He doesn’t have time for friends, much less relationships, and he’s lonely, overwhelmed, and exhausted. He needs a day off—no, screw that, he needs a weekend away. And so Declan turns his phone off and takes his uncle up on his offer to stay at his ranch. The rest of the world can wait. After Holden Barnes’ divorce, his ranch became his life. And it’s a good life. He has his horses, a steady income, and his dog, Fluffy. Sure, he’d love to have someone to warm his bed at night, look up at him in the morning, and call him Daddy. Thankfully, one-night flings from the local bar scratch that itch enough… For now.Holden walks into the local bar expecting to find what he always cold beer, someone to throw darts with, and a man or woman to warm his bed. What he doesn’t expect is to find a sexy stranger who takes his breath away. The attraction is instant, their night together is steamy, and the morning leaves him wanting more. If only the smexy city slicker wasn’t leaving so soonBecause Declan could sure use a Daddy. Purple Rein is an age gap MM romance featuring a smexy cowboy daddy, an interior designer realizing he is a Little for the first time, age play including adorable onesies and ABDL, and two men discovering opposites really do attract. Purple Rein is the first book in the Country Daddy, City Little MM romance series. Each book focuses on a new couple who find their Kinkily Ever After.
This book has good aspects and, unfortunately, a few not so good ones. In terms of age-play and ABDL (yes there are diapers and also the use of them) the story is outstandingly good. The character relationships are wonderfully executed as well. I love how Declan is very slowly discovering his little side and how gently Holden supports him. I love how Daddy is there for him and helps him with the big decisions. The secondary characters were partially necessary to the narrative, I just found them a bit distracting unfortunately. I didn't like the beginning of the book at all. It's clear that with relatively few pages, you have to get into the action quickly and introduce the characters and their problems as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, much falls short here. I had problems finding my way into the characters, somehow the sense of everything was lost. Fortunately, it got better and the narrative became more profound, but unfortunately the beginning has a negative impact on the rest of the book for me. So, this makes me a little sad because I really love Declan's and Holden's story.
“Never thank me for giving you what you need. It’s what makes me happy.” The sincerity of his words left no room for me to even question the truth of that. 😍
“Do you want to see me come in my new jock?” How could he sound so dirty and so sweet at the same exact time? 😊
Well and for the smut friends among us: there are relatively few sex scenes, some are unfortunately off-page, I don't like this very much. But here it was ok, I didn't feel that they were really missing, it would have just been nice to have a bit more of them.
Declan is a famous designer who is stretched to the absolute max. To try to decompress he decides to pay his uncle in the country, a visit. Holden is sitting in the bar when Declan walks in. The two connect on a deep level and the rest as they say, is history...and love is the answer. Declan didn't know he was a little until his Daddy found him. There is no angst in the story, which I always count as a plus. I love Daddy/little stories because they always have a happy ending and you don't have to go through "on again off again maybe we will, maybe we won't, "wish we did" stuff. I gave it 5 stars, but I do wish it had been a bit longer...but then...I wish all her books were longer. These two guys started their relationship slowly, but it quickly evolves into something you knew was going to last. Their relationship was also unconventional and was for a while...long distance, but they were able to make it work. Holden and Declan were absolutely perfect for each other making this a sweet story. This series doesn't necessarily need to be read in order but there are sometimes characters from the other books paying a visit.
Eh. This was a very blah read for me. I've liked everything else I've read by Della Cain but this one fell pretty flat. It's too short for the amount of time this book is supposed to cover and instead of being able to experience the character's lives and romantic development etc, you are thrown into big time jumps and declarations of love without any chance to feel that same connection. This book takes place over a year and a half yet it reads as if it takes place over like 2 weeks. It just wasn't developed enough for me and it felt kind of half-assed in a lot of the kink elements which was disappointing. I am still going to read the next one in the series since I'm a sucker for age play.
This book is an age play romance with ABDL, including sexual age play. It's not a 24/7 dynamic and the scenes are very short, but just a heads up if that's not your thing.
Gay MC, bisexual MC
This book also uses the word "smexy" which should not be allowed ever 😅
A highly enjoyable start to a new series with well defined characters and a nicely crafted world I'd like to come back to in the future books. The angst is kept to a minimum even though there is plenty of scope for more drama in the story and most of the characters are very likeable. An enjoyable read overall.
Purple Rein is the first book in the Country Daddy, City Little serie by Della Cain. This is the story of Holden and Declan. I really liked their story. It was sweet, sexy and very well written. Can't wait for the next book!
Declan has achieved his dream of being a famous interior decorator, but it came at a price. He is so overworked his stress level is high and he has absolutely no time to himself. When he visits his Uncle at his ranch for the weekend he meets a rancher, Holden.
After 5 years Holden is finally over his ex-wife (who was a little) and is ready to meet a new little. When he visits a bar in search of a one-night stand finding Declan was the last thing he expected.
This was a very sweet book. It was a bit on the short side. I adored Declan and really liked Holden. The story was a little lacking in emotions between the main characters. I hoped for more depth in their feelings for each other.
The longer it went on the bigger issue I had with the story that I thought I could ignore I found that I really couldn't. It glossed over the daddy/boy scenes. Most of their interactions were as adults and what few daddy/boy scenes there were they were very short.
Also, in a romance book you expect there to be romance. At the very least (especially in a daddy/boy story) you'd expect at least some affection... hugs, kisses, snuggling, etc. There is almost none of that in this book. And if you like it to have at least a couple steamy scenes... there's even less of that. It's basically a completely clean story. If you prefer clean books then this is definitely a book for you. It really is a cute story. If you're in the mood for at least snuggles and hugs you'll be disappointed.
Side Note: I absolutely love the cover and it was pretty much the sole reason I chose to read it. 😉
I've read a couple of others by this author that I really liked. Unfortunately, Purple Rein fell flat for me for a variety of reasons.
There was way too much jumping ahead in time, with me not even realizing they'd jumped ahead in most places.
A majority of the sex scenes were kinda/sorta talked about but not shown on-page.
The kink felt forced. Not that there was a lot of it, but when it was there, I just wasn't feeling it.
There was nowhere near enough time with Declan and Holden together as a couple for them to be a couple, in my opinion.
SO much telling but not much showing. This was the entire book.
I did like seeing how Declan became a popular designer/decorator for Daddies and their littles. I'd seen him as a secondary character in the others I read, and this book (though with very little detail) did explain how that became his thing professionally.
Absolutely loved both Declan and his Daddy Holden. Declan is a famous Designer and Holden lives on a ranch. They meet when Declan is staying out on his Uncle's Ranch to get away from his job stress.. Loved seeing that Declan was a Smart Famous Designer but at the same a regular handy guy. And Holden walked in on this first hand with Declan covered in insulation! Holden and Declan hook up for a one night stand and then Declan is back to the city. Holden whispers Good Boy to Declan and when Declan is on a new design job he meets a Daddy and Boy couple. Things click and Declan realizes he just might be a Little! But specifically...hoping to be Holden's Boy! Loved watching Declan discover himself with Holden. As he is learning new "little" things, I like how he jokes about Holden calling it "Baby Steps". My favorite part is for Declan being a little is just a natural part of him and he fluidly moves back and forth from little to grown up- especially for the sexy times! There is a variety of sexy times so you get all the different dynamics and feels with them! As he is learning new "little" things, I like how he jokes about Holden calling it "Baby Steps" - This is an overall light and Fluffy, Sexy and Sweet Daddy and Boy Story!

Declan has had all of his dreams come true - he has a top-rated interior design show, endorsement deals and his own line of home decor. He just didn't realise just how much it would consume him so he had no time for friends let alone a relationship. Essentially he is lonely, overwhelmed and exhausted. So he turns his phone off and takes his uncle up on his offer of a weekend on his ranch. Holden Barnes is divorced and has his horses, a steady income and his dog Fluffy. He just doesn't have anyone to warm up his bed at night and call him Daddy. A one-night fling at the local bar scratches an itch, but that is all. When he finds a sexy stranger one night who takes his breath away they have an instant attraction and a steamy night. But the city slicker has to go back and Declan really is in dire need of a Daddy.
I loved this story with Declan who was just so overwhelmed and was also a little (who had no idea that was what he was) and Holden who was a Daddy who needed to tread carefully and help his boy as much as he could. I loved their relationship and how strong it was and how they did what they would to communicate because without each other they were miserable. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content and a BDSM-like DDLB relationship with binkies and diapers (ABDL).
Declan felt burned out from his career as an interior decorator and TV star, so he decided to go home for a visit. When his uncle went to help a friend he decided to go to the local bar and as soon as he walked in he felt he hit the jackpot, noticing the sexy man sitting alone in a booth. Holden needing a break from the ranch decided to go out for a few drinks, hoping he might get lucky but wasn't counting on it and boy was he glad he did. That gorgeous man who asked was the seat next to him taken, was a welcoming change and he made him an offer he couldn't and didn't want to refuse. Holden had given up on finding another little after his divorce but after spending time with Declan (Dee) he knew he needed a Daddy and he wanted him to be his boy. But he felt Declan was a little, yet he felt Declan hadn't figured it out yet. But after Declan met some people into that life style he felt he wanted to know more. They invited him to a club event and the last person he expected to see was the man that had been on his mind the past month Holden. That was their true beginning to their life together. Great Read!!😍
Declan’s decorating career has taken off, and he’s a celebrity with his own tv show, but he’s also drowning in work and in desperate need of balance and escape. Holden is a rancher and a Daddy with an empty nursery since his wife left. When he and Declan meet, he thinks he’s the Daddy Declan needs. This is a really sweet story, one in which Declan discovers what it means to him to be little and is slowly immersed in the lifestyle at the same time his relationship with Holden develops. The angst is minimal and the consensual, caring aspect of the kink is the focus of the story. It’s a carefully written book, one that at times reads like an introduction to Daddy/little kink and ABDL. I wasn’t always completely engaged with the characters— I don’t really know anything about Holden in particular, other than that he’s a really good Daddy— but I liked the emphasis the author puts on clear, informed consent and boundary-setting.

I enjoyed this book by Della Cain. Unfortunately I've only read book 1 in both the Collared and Collared Ever After series, so when this book included characters from the other series I felt I was missing something but that's on me not the author. This book can be read as a standalone if you haven't read the other series but I'm sure it would be even better if I started at beginning. I liked how Declan was figuring out his little side and was not a full on little. It made the story more believable for me. I really liked how the author didn't have the mc's moving in with each other just to push the story. That would have made this book a cookie cutter. Holden and Declan were established in their careers and had to make sacrifices to see each other and really make their relationship work. I prefer a hard earned HEA. You get an epilogue and a bonus short which I also love. I'm going to go back and read the other two series and continue this one as well. I highly recommend this series.
This book is fantastic! Declan is a famous designer who ends up taking a weekend away to visit his uncle's ranch when his job gets to be too much. There a night out will lead him to Holden and it will change both of their lives. Holden used to be a Daddy but his marriage ended in divorce. When he first meets Declan, he is drawn to him immediately but doesn't want to push him. Soon he and Declan are exploring Declan's little side and getting closer at the same time. Declan will find that Holden gives him everything he needs and it helps him to manage his day to day, knowing he has his Daddy to turn to. Finally, things at work get too much for Declan and Holden will help him figure out the best way to move forward. Declan will make some decisions that will change everything for the better with less work and more time with Daddy.

Opposites attract! The Daddy Little community was supportive and strong. Marion was doing good works helping the Collared community and the community as a whole. Holden was exiting a long term marriage and looking for the point where he was ready to move on. Ryder, Luke and Daniel were friends from Collared helping him donate the items from the nursery. Holden wanted and independent Little who had and external life. Declan, stressed at work decided to spend the weekend at his Uncle's ranch. He brought Mr Bun-bun, who was his anchor. They met at bar and were immediately drawn to each other. Declan, didn't know about Daddies and Littles. Holden saw an opportunity to mentor. Will Declan and Holden become a couple? How will they handle a long distance relationship? Does Declan find his balance? Great story. The guys are sweet and the community looks solid. Will Marion find Holden a permanent Little? Nicely done! I received an ARC from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book is cute and sweet, and it’s endearing to see Declan learning his way as a little, and how to let go. I just found the book moved very quickly. I didn’t feel a huge connection between them before they declared their love, and then the story fast forwards again. It was a little frustrating. I’m all honesty, I couldn’t connect to any of the characters very well, which made it a bit of a meh read for me.
Also, Declan was too ‘little’ for me - I enjoy DDlb, but I’m not a fan of reading littles who use diapers, pacifiers and nurseries. Just my preference, but I kind of wished I knew about that content before reading.
There weren’t any older littles or middles either. Even at the club they went to, all the littles were using nurseries, diapers, binkies, pacifier ect. They were all very young littles. I always felt like Declan didn’t fit being THAT little, or that maybe he needed to try being an older little before possibly regressing. It felt like he jumped into being that little because of all the other littles around him. There was no variety to the littles ages/behaviours, and that’s what I wanted to see.
Because of this I don’t think I’d continue the series, because I know the other books will contain similar content.
On another note, that is a gorgeous cover. I'm disappointed it doesn't really reflect anything within the book - how Declan dresses or presents himself publicly. But I will still admire it because it's beautiful.
Loved the book it was great, the story was written well and the characters were interesting. This story was about Declan and Holden. Holden owns his own Rach and horses after getting divorced from his wife. Declan is a designer who works fourteen hours a day and lives in the City, he was asked to go to his uncles Ranch he decided to go to the bar. Holden goes to the bar where he would have a drink and maybe take someone home the night and that is when he noticed Declan and Declan noticed Holden their night was magical, they took things slowly as to get to know each other. What would Declan do when he is told Holden wants him to be his little and call him daddy, will Declan start running or will he call Holden daddy.

Very sweet story. Of course! It's a Daddy/little tale, this one with a twist of country.
Declan has a successful interior design business that leads to a TV show and more side work and promotions than he can handle. Overwhelmed, he heads to his uncle's ranch and goes out for a quiet night at a local bar where he meets rancher Holden Barnes. Holden is a Daddy and he senses Declan might be a little but there's no mention of either when the two meet and act on their instant attraction. Over a long distance relationship, and after a chance project that introduces Declan to the "little" lifestyle, Declan decides to attend an into night at Collared, a kink club.
And that was the start of what turned out to be a sweet story, complete with binkies, stuffies, tubbies, and ABDL play.
I enjoyed it, as I do most Della Cain stories, and I look forward to more in the series.
4.5 Stars I thought that this was a really sweet book. Declan and Holden were exactly what the each other needed even though they didn't think they needed. I loved the connection and chemistry between Declan and Holden. I loved how patient Holden was with Declan and was there for him when he needed him. I was amazing to read about Declan learning about and being in his little space. I was awesome to see other other characters from other books by Della. I can't wait for book 2 with Quinn and Brad! I really enjoyed this book and I would highly recommend it and Ms. Della as a great author.

I enjoyed this age play romance. Declan is overworked and exhausted and needs a break to just get away. He visits his uncle on his ranch and leaves his phone behind so he cannot be pulled back into work. He meets a sexy rancher who asks him if he is little and he does not understand until he gets a client who is into age play. Declan's client starts teaching him what daddy/little relationships are about and invites him to an age play party at the local BDSM club. From this point, his eyes are opened and his life starts changing for the better. Nicely written MM age play romance.

Declan can not figure out if he is a little or not. He is so outgoing when he is business mode but when it comes to letting his little out very shy and on guard. Holden is a rancher who works hard on his ranch and his ex wife was his little but she wanted it 24/7 and he could not do that and still work the ranch. Holden is also bi-sexual. Eventually they get on to meeting each other and getting to know each other. They work out one part only to have another part stick out there that needs work. Written very good...great characters.
3.5+ stars - Though the story was written superficially, I enjoyed it very much. It was sweet and simple and just a short feel-good-read. Perfect when you need something easy and simple for a short break, which is exactly what I wanted! (It's a 3-star read in my opinion, but in this moment in time it was exactly what I wanted and I decided to be generous and give it 4 stars.) This isn't my first book by Della Cain and I'm glad I didn't see that this book was by Cain. The other books I've read by her I found lacking and might have not been motivated enough to read this one if I had known.
I like this. A city boy discovering his little side and a Daddy cowboy that's there to help and guide him. Not a lot of drama...some age play...steam level is warm...a lot of sweetness and comfort. I liked how the "Collared" community rally together and all are friends that play together. Nice ending and a great lead in to the next chapter in the series.

Purple Rein was super cute. Declan so needed a daddy in his life. And Holden was finally ready to have a relationship that was more than a one-night stand after his divorce. Along the way, they make friends with some other daddies and littles that we meet in the Collard Ever After series. Another great story by Della Cain. I eagerly await the next book in the series!

I really enjoyed this book! Holden and Declan meet at a bar, and are instantly drawn to each other, and then meet at Declan’s uncle’s ranch the next day. They start their relationship slowly, but it evolves into a sweet, romantic HEA. I loved that their relationship was unconventional and partly long distance, but they were able to make it work, and I enjoyed the way characters from other books were drawn into the story.
Purple Rein is the first book in a new series and follows the story of Declan and Holden. It contains Daddy/Boy and Little kink. The book is really sweet and has a great selection of characters and some fluffy dogs. It was a very enjoyable read and I look forward to more books in the series. I absolutely adored this story. This author does such a great job at writing stories that can be read as stand-alones and yet all of her books are set in the same world. I love seeing little glimpses of the other characters because these stories are always so good that I don’t want to see them end. I can’t wait to see what the author comes up with next.
What I love about Della Cain’s work is how each character and their relationships are unique. It shows that there is not one way to each kink. That each relationship molds it to fit them. Like with Declan. You can tell he needs someone right from the start. And when he finds himself and what he needs it’s so beautiful to see. I can’t wait to read Brad’s story.
How cool is that to be able to let go and explore your inner little in such a safe and loving environment. I love Della Cain and her way with words regarding men and their desires. Her stories are sexy, sweet, and guaranteed happy endings.

This is a new series by Della Cain called the Country Daddy, City Little. Loved it!! Loved Declan and Holden, they were sweet and steamy. I loved how they were perfect for one another even though they had no clue they were. The story well written. Sooo good!

I didn't hate it! But it was very blah, the amount of skipped time was overwhelming and I felt that I missed way too much of the story. I think the hardest skipped time was the last one when it skipped ahead like a year. I felt that, that was the most important part of the story and it was skipped right over like it was no big deal.
