From the past to the present, they've always been rivals. Who will finally come out on top?
In high school, Quinton and Samantha competed for top honors in almost every course. Now that they're all grown up and members of the same club, their old rivalry flares back up the moment they lay eyes on each other. When they find themselves paired together in a steamy kink class, these two switches discover that their competitive natures burn even hotter in the bedroom. Both older, both wiser, and both more determined than ever to win, Q and Sam must navigate power dynamics like never before.
Will the struggle for ultimate control lead them both to fail, or can they ace this class and embrace a future together?
Golden Angel is a USA Today best-selling author of heart and bottom warming romance.
She is happily married, old enough to know better but still too young to care, and a big fan of happily-ever-afters, strong heroes and heroines, and sizzling chemistry.
When not in front of her computer writing, she can be found sewing her next project, hanging out with friends, or wandering the grounds of the Maryland Renaissance Festival.
Another great addition to the Masters of Marquis Series.
I really enjoyed getting the story about Sam and Q’s past. I couldn’t get enough of them figuring things out and watching how they moved past the hurts their past inflicted upon them with minimal angst. Both Sam and Q had me intrigued with them when I met them in previous books and I loved that they were able to work out their conflicted past and cultivate the chemistry that they had. It was also very interesting that both were switches so when either of them needed the control they were able to take it and there was never a power struggle.
This story will definitely show how high school screws with your head. Poor Q had no idea what he had done wrong for Sam to cancel their date to the prom the day after she accepted it, and here we are years later and it was still a sore spot for him. I am glad he finally got closure to the burning question and felt bad about why it had happened but my heart totally understood why Sam had done it.
If you enjoy STEAMY Contemporary Romances, BDSM Romances, Erotic Romances, Interracial Romances, or Second Chance Romances I would recommend this book to you.
Masters of Marquis is a delicious series, one i love how, with each new instalment, the family grows. The crossover with Stronghold is another thing i enjoy,a lot! Because i love seeing everyone again, hearing where they are,and what they’re doing. The gossip train is strong as ever, and everyone is still ready to help eachother when problems arise. But now it’s the friends at Marquis ánd Stronghold that are there for eachother, and that friendship grows with each new story. So,having Switch Play as an ARC is a treat, and one i enjoyed very much!
Q and Samantha’s story is a second chance with a twist,or switch if you like…lol They knew eachother in highschool, and Quinton asked her as his date for Prom night. She did accept, but changed her mind at the last minute, and that hurt…. Now,after completing Dom training,Q is paired with Mistress Samantha for sub training. Because he’s not always comfortable being in charge… But being paired with Sam brings a lot more depth to submitting, and if he wants to get it right, they need to talk first. Get the old hurts out of the way before it hurts them again. With both being Switches, their dynamic is one of a kind, and they fit together perfectly. But there’s more at play then meets the eye….. And even while they’re growing closer, there are still problems waiting to rise to the surface. And i’m not talking about just theirs…..
This was a delicious story that shows, yet again, how important communication is. Not just in BDSM,but in daily life,too….. And once they talked, once they REALLY TALKED,once they knéw what the problem was, there was only one way forward, and they took it! I really enjoyed Q and Sam’s story, and even though there is still some trouble between friends,i was left with a happy feeling. I dó look forward to the story of Freddy,Legally Bound and that’s coming in March!
So. Good! Q and Sam are adorable and smexy as heck! High school sweethearts turned rivals turned second chance with kink. As always, it’s good see some old familiar faces. Noelle is still a questionable human being but I like Morgan the more we get to know her. Oh! And that epilogue! FREDDY!!!! *flail* 💜
Switch Play is a second chance romance for two people who are perfect for each other if they can just get out of their own way. Sam and Q have history but can they have a future. Their kinks mesh but they have to communicate outside of the bedroom. This is a steamy read that will give you all the feels.
Misunderstanding and miscommunication leave high school classmates disappointed and hurt...when 2nd chances come around will Q and Sam be able to forget the pain of the past and find a future together or will that chance be lost to them forever. Grab this one and enjoy 😉
Wow, once again, this author brings the fun and the spice. I love the Stronghold/Marquis world. This one didn't disappoint either.
Q and Sam have been competing for the top honor in literally everything since high school. Q took a risk and put it all on the line to ask Sam to their senior prom, only to have her change her mind.
Sam had a reason why she declined his invitation. With them going their separate ways after graduation, the answers seem to become dust in the wind. They didn't expect to find each other again, and in the most unlikely place. The sparks between them are revived, but with a new and interesting twist.
Who will win the battle of wills? Will it be Master Q, or Mistress Samantha? Or will they find out they are what the other is missing.
These two are bring the sass and the heat. The laughter is just as high as the heat. I love the bonds between the two clubs and the way the senior members have always been a sounding board, and an ear to listen for these amazing new members of the community. Communication is definitely the keyword throughout this novel. I can't wait for Freddy's story.
Oh my stars! Golden Angel does it again, this book is amazing! I could not put it down and didn’t want it to end. I fell madly in love with Q and Samantha and their story. It is an amazing second chance story with a whole lot of spice! Highly recommend! (This is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone.)
Packed with heat, Switch Play will definitely spice things up. The instant rival connection between Q & Sam had the story immediately sparking. Sensing that their connection was based more in attraction than rivalry made the story truly come alive. I enjoyed the drama of their misconceptions and misunderstandings. It brought another layer to their story. This is the first modern story of Goldn Angel’s that I have read. Having previously enjoyed her Regency era series, I found this hit similar tones and was quite enjoyable. I especially enjoyed the many layers of Q’s personality, not just in Dom/Sub but in seeing him with his friends, with Angels daughter and his family. It really helped create a well rounded picture of a very attractive man. An entertaining read with plenty of spice & heat!
A lovely second chance romance from Golden Angel who puts a lot of herself in her stories. I have read all the previous books but while it is not necessary, this is a standalone, it does help to know some of the context and storylines. While there is no real angst in this story, the importance of communication is highlighted. There are some very hot scenes and an interesting twist to the D/s dynamic. An enjoyable read and a teaser in the epilogue.
Samantha and Quinton (Sam & Q) have known each other since high school. Sam agreed to go to prom, then with no explanation ghosted on Q. We get the backstory, and these two find the chemistry from earlier is still alive and well today. Both are members of Marquis Club and both are switches. As they are paired together, this makes for interesting times.
A very enjoyable and steamy camaraderie as these two work well together no matter which role they are playing. Of course some of those old feelings create some issues in their current reality. Fortunately they are surrounded by friends and family from the club, who help keep them honest, and ensure they do not ruin the good thing they have.
***** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book *****
Q and Sam went to high school together, crushing on each other, but it just wansn’t meant to be. Now a second chance comes around when they are being paired up together in the club they are both a member. At first, there is still some rivalry left, but when things spice up between them, feelings start to change. This book got me hooked from the beginning, could not put it down. It was a really enjoyable read that kept me up late at night. The chemistry between the main characters is scorching hot.
A story of second chances and this book also picks up storylines from the previous books. I enjoyed Q and Sam together. since both of them are switches the interactions between them changed all the time. It felt very natural and very steamy.
It also showed the importance of communication in a relationship.
An enjoyable read between Q & Sam that were high school sweethearts. Kink helped them with a second chance romance but this book shows why communication is the key to any relationship. It has a nice blend of drama, steam and kink which made it an highly enjoyable read. I received an advanced copy and I'm leaving this review voluntarily.
Enjoyed the story even though I felt like it was a little slow in the beginning, the further you got into the story, the better it was. This is a good second chance story with Sam and Q who have a history back to high school. Both characters are strong but Sam has issues of feeling less worthy because of her financial situation. The story is a fun read but misunderstandings make for hurt feelings. There is a happy ending but there were some stressful moments. Hope you enjoy the story. I received a free copy of this book via Netgalley and are voluntarily leaving a review.
I thought that this was a really good book that had a strong storyline.
I did find that there was a little too much detail for me at times which detracted from the main story, that could have been cut down for me as it did stop the lovely flow that the author had built up.
I thought that the characters were really well developed and I loved their personalities and they had some great interaction.
It is 4 stars from me for this one, I really enjoyed it – highly recommended!
There is a real abundance of tension and sparks as Q and Sam's story unfolds. A smartly crafted and well-orchestrated blend of drama, emotion, kink and steam make a sinfully seductive and utterly tantalizing combination that was entertaining and irresistible. I am electing to post an objective review.
Sam and Q have history, the high school kind that left scars on each. But now they're paired in training, so what's in their past has to come out into the open, into the present. Now this pair of rivals will have to deal with attraction, rivalry, and of course love, in and out of the club.
Q's falling deep with Sam, but he's unaware of just how scarred she is deep down inside. She's the opposite of him - a non-risk taker, a planner, with her feet always on the ground. He, on the other hand, leaps when he wishes without looking at all the options or consequences. But the consequences this time will hurt a lot more than back in high school when she changed her mind about prom. This time, his heart is on the line.
This second chance of sorts is a study in communication and miscommunication in and out of the bedroom. Opposites attract sounds all good, but it's not when the two don't communicate, or when one, or both, aren't even aware of their own issues, so don't communicate them to each other. Sam and Q had a lot to wade through emotionally, so their journey is a bit rough. Their chemistry is intense, the BDSM play is hot, and once they worked out their problems, they made a great couple.

Switch Play: Relationships are complicated, kink or vanilla. Q and Sam are both exploring the Dom and sub parts of their lives. This class Mistress Samantha is in charge of Q. However, outside of class they seem comfortable to go with the flow and allow the person who needs to feel submissive- be the sub.
This book explores this less discussed side of kink but it also includes all the various twists and turns of being vulnerable in a relationship. That is hard for Sam who feels unequal, less successful (?), than Q. It explores self-esteem, past inner hurt, and how our inner voice may not always be right.
It is STEAMY, sexy, and fun to read. Good to see all the Stronghold and Marquis friends we have come to love and see how their lives are moving forward, or not.
Second chances work out even better than the first because you learn from your mistakes...
An incident occurred in High School for Quinton and Samantha that changed everything for both of them going into their futures. They see each other years later in the most unlikely place possible. The heat and passion are still alive between them after all this time.
Sam feels excited to see Q but also guilty. She has insecurities that make her feel she is not "good enough" for Q. They have no issues in the bedroom, but is that enough for them to last the long haul? Their story has everything, humor, sizzle and all the feels, and the hope that everyone deserves a second chance.
A spicy read. I enjoyed this journey for Q and Sam. Sam had self-doubts about herself which held her back in trusting others. Q had his own conflicts, but he knew he cared for Sam, despite their previous hate-filled relationship from high school. I loved how they grew together and overcame all issues. The secondary characters were a mix of those we knew and some we may be hoping find redemption.
I received a copy of this story through Elle Woods Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.
So thrilled at how many people have been loving Switch Play! I had such a great time writing the book and getting to play with the dynamic. Also, incredibly touched by the switches among my readers who have reached out to me with gratitude for representation! I'm so glad I was able to provide and that you're enjoying it <3 I don't know how many more I'll do in the future, it was definitely more of a challenge for me, but I did have fun with it and I'm sure this won't be my last. Happy reading everyone!
I love Golden Angel's stories and this one is no exception. A second chance bring Samantha and Quinton (Q) back together for kink classes. I laughed, cried, got mad and lots of other emotions during this read. It was also nice to see previous characters show up from books before this one. Ms. Angel knows how to write stories that keep her readers invested and knows how to keep them begging for more!! (Like I want Freddy's story now) Go ahead and get this book then make sure you have time to sit back and enjoy it!
I've usually liked Golden Angel's contemporary books, and have read and mostly enjoyed all of the Stronghold and Marquis series, but this book is way too high schoolish. I understand that some of it is by design--the two main characters were high school nerdy rivals and secret crushes, and even admit that they giddily feel like they're in high school. But it goes way too far. She's a grown a** woman who is constantly asking "Is this a date?" "You mean like a date?" Even in her thoughts, "does this mean we're dating?" when they have their first scene together. Her career issues don't ring true, either. She struggles as though she has a mininum wage job instead of being a licensed professional in a high demand medical field and seems to have no grasp of the very basic premise of the importance of networking to career success and advancement. The only angst and drama are derived solely from lack of communication, and of course we have the obligatory scene where he's going to solve her self esteem issues by spanking her into it. Even the rest of the cast of characters that we've previously met read like a bunch of high school cliques--the popular girls, the jocks, the nerdy ones, and even mean girls. The whole book felt like a boring high school reunion.
No plot spoilers No potential triggers There are some errors but not enough to kill the book. So, what happened there? The plotline just ended abruptly. What on earth was that last chapter all about? There was no conclusion to Sam's issues other than a weak plan to move forward. What was the point of mentioning Rose (Rosie?) at her place of work if she has no bearing on the book? It was pointless and misleading because I kept expecting her to have something to do with why Sam is so short of money. I loved Q, have done since meeting him way back in the first book, but I have to say I thought Sam a bit of a walkover. As a female I can attest to the fact that I tend to know when another female is playing me, and Sam particularly unaware. I have no problem recommending the book but would advise reading from the beginning of the series to obtain the best reading experience. That ending though, seriously rushed and unsatisfying.
'Switch Play' is the fourth book in Golden Angel's "Masters of Marquis" series and I have to admit, I've been following some of these characters since the very beginning when we were introduced to the gang at Stronghold, so to finally get to be a part of Q and Sam's story was exhilarating! Ms. Angel has a unique way of writing that just immediately pulls me in and makes me feel like I'm with old friends and part of whatever scenario she's writing about. There are no over-the-top antics, no second-guessing emotions of the characters, just down-to-earth honest personalities that are sometimes a bit broken or bruised, sometimes a little insecure or unsure, and then sometimes with egos as big as Texas. This is a second-chance romance. BDSM is all about open and honest communication but there's a big misstep here and quite a bit of hurt feelings. The push and pull of Q and Sam along with the nemesis of Noelle in the mix were worth every minute of the wait to see what would happen. I can't recommend this storyline enough.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
This is my first foray into this series but I now have very intention of going back to read the other books in this series after reading this steamy gem! Quinton and Samantha have quite the past history as they grew up together. The problem is that they were always in competition with each other creating lots of hurt and bad feelings. When they reunite as adults years later it takes them a little bit to be able to move past this but man does it make the story fabulous as they work things out leading to one steamy combination of the two of them once they do. Makes for quite the fun steamy romance read as it all plays out. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
I am disappointed. There was potential for interesting relationship. But "conflict" about their past relationship in high school was resolved in the beginning. Then it was kind of boring and predictable. I hated that "evil" roommate from Law and disorder was still part of the story. It seems like author thinks that everyone is interested in BDSM to the point to attend classes for newbies. And as usual in this series there are hints about other characters for next books. So a lot of important and interesting things are already happening in these relationships.
I enjoyed this story about Q and Sam. I was intrigued by their history together from previous books so it was nice to get a little bit more background and watch them try to work out their differences. I don't think I've read a story where both characters were switches before so that was an interesting dynamic. As always, I love catching up with all the Stronghold characters. These friend groups are so entertaining!
I really enjoyed Quinton and Samantha's story! These two are not only sizzling but work really we in every other aspect of their relationship, except one.. but that will get solved as well. I really liked that they are both switch and get to work out their relationships without preconceived roles. A really great story. And of course, we see the rest of the gang as well, and one unpleasant person who I am curious about nonetheless..hopefully Golden Angel will give us her story too.
As a Switch, this book really resonated with me. The fluidity of their play makes me a bit jealous. I'd love to find that in real life. Also, with Sam being a cuddly lady was nice to read about. Q's character shows that it's okay to be sensitive and submissive, yet still be "manly".
