A lady companion, an arrogant earl – should she save him from a horrid fate?
Giles, the Earl of Bargrave, does not want to be in London but since he has promised to chaperone his niece, knows he must keep to his word. Frustrated that the girl has also brought a companion, Giles does his best to ignore her, often reminding her harshly that he is well able to chaperone his niece without her aid.
Miss Emma Lawder has never had a London Season and doubts she will ever have one. Sent away as a companion by an uncaring father, Emma struggles against the earl’s displeasure. When, by chance, she uncovers a plot to ensnare him into marriage, Emma must choose just what she will do next. Will she tell him the truth or leave him to his fate? And can they find a way together that might just soften both of their hearts?
Rose has read her way through countless romances over the years, “borrowing” them from her older sisters, and hiding them from her mother.
She has a special love for Regency romances and when she began writing, the Regency period was a natural place to start. The ton, the wealthy families, the Season, the dilemmas, and yes, the marriages, have always fascinated her.
She loves a happy ever after! Now she is happy to bring this passion to her stories and share it with her readers.
On a personal note, Rose lives in North Carolina, is married, and has a terrier that barks too much. She enjoys taking him for walks to tire him out!

Miss Emma Lawder even though she's a baron's daughter has never had a London Season and doubts she will ever have one. Sent away as a companion by an uncaring father, Emma struggles against the earl’s displeasure. When, by chance, she uncovers a plot to ensnare him into marriage, Emma must choose just what she will do next. The fifth book in the series & is very easily read on its own. A well written charming read. Giles is so arrogant & selfish at the start of the book & I loved how he gradually assessed his behaviour & became a much better man. I loved Emma who was a delight & made the best of her situation. I thoroughly enjoyed their journey to a HEA. I also really enjoyed the machinations of two females My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Super clean historical romance. Solid characters. The hero was a bit of an ass. The villainess was vile yet interesting. The resolution was satisfying!
Delightful Regency tale with a twist. The characters have been well developed but Emma and Giles’ meeting is unexceptional. Emma must make a decision whether or not to help Giles get out of an unwelcome situation. Their attraction is slow to start but the more they are thrust together, the more they develop feelings for each other. This is a great story and I found it hard to put it down. I highly recommend it.
I loved this book by Rose Pearson. Her books take you back in time and keep me interested. This story was about a companion to the niece of an earl. Miss Emma and Giles struggle to see eye to eye. The niece in the story is hilarious and puts her uncle in his place, several times. I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

Giles, Earl of Bargrave, was woken with his valet telling him he had an urgent letter. The messenger had just arrived and was waiting for an answer. Giles wondered why lady was writing him so urgently. The requested coffee and took the letter from his valet and requested coffee. Then to inform the messenger that he was have something to eat and a short rest before he would be permitted to return. And he discov-ered the letter was from his sister and not from the lady that he hoped it was from. His brother-in-law had been unwell and they were unable to take their daughter to London for the season. Since her husband was recovering well, she wanted to send her daughter to her brother for the London season along with her companion. At first, he was going to deny his sister’s request, then started feeling guilty so he wrote for her to send her daughter to him for the season. Lady Juliet and her companion Emma arrived in Lon-don with her uncle nowhere in sight. Ms. Pearson has written another book which is a very pleasant read and a wonderful story. It is well written and very enjoyable to read and I recommend that you read...
Miss Emma Lawder has been effectively tossed out of her home because her father doesn’t want anything to do with her anymore, all except for the money he will collect by forcing her to work as a companion. Luckily, she gets work with a really nice family that treats her well, and the daughter. Lady Juliet, she is a companion for treats her like a friend rather than an employee. Lady Juliet and Miss Lawder are sent to London to stay with her uncle, Lord Bargrave, for the season. He is to function as her sponsor, though he agreed he is not at all happy about it and puts forth very little effort in the beginning. After a confrontation with Ms. Lawder over his behavior he begins to make a change. Even becoming more of a friend to Ms. Lawder, than how horrible he was to her in the beginning. I’ll admit to a reluctance to see the two of them together after his behavior. The protagonists of this story are a truly vile girl named, Lady Sarah Ann, and her stepmother, Lady Fullerton. The latter forcing the situation that Ms. Lawder must act to protect Lord Bargrave from. This was an easy read, and an engaging one.

And can they find a way together that might just soften both of their hearts? Thinking to ensnare the Earl in a trap of marriage the Lady Fullerton and her stepdaughter were complacent in the trap. I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
Even though Emma Lawder, daughter to a Baron, is companion to Lady Juliet, as her father wants nothing to do with her, he collects her pay. As Lady Juliet’s father is ill, Giles, the Earl of Bargrave, has been asked to sponsor his niece. As much as he doesn’t want to, he agrees. Lady Juliet and Miss Emma have become very close so when they arrive and she finds that Emma is to be in a tiny dark room, she takes it upon herself to change it to the one next to her. Being his niece is outspoken, they butt heads from the start. As they became more familiar to each other, the three became close and when Giles becomes caught in a plot to ensnare him in a marriage with a most mean hearted lady, can Emma arrive in time to save the day with the help of Lady Juliet?.

I didn’t take to Giles, Earl of Bargrave at first, he was a selfish man only concerned with his own pleasure. He did redeem himself later. Emma Lawder was a strong lady and given her background, it was a wonder she was as kind and caring as she was. Emma was companion to Lady Juliet, the earl’s niece. Juliet was outspoken and didn’t hold back when she thought something was wrong. Emma wasn’t shy either in expressing her opinions. A gradually respect grows between Emma and Giles but could it develop into anything deeper? There are some villains who will stop at nothing to get what they desire. This was an engaging story with interesting characters. I received a copy via Booksprout and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions own.
Emma has been renounced by her family and has no dowry, instead she is to find employment, her wages going to her father! Emma is a companion to Lady Juliet in London for her first season. Lady Juliet is sent to live with her uncle. Giles isn't happy to have his Brice stay with him - let alone with a servant. Soon he begins to learn that Emma Lawler is a good influence on his niece - and him!
Such a wonderful story in which the reader is transported to Regency era with all its manners, lies and manipulations. The story is well written, with a slow burn romance. Told from dual POVs reveals intimately their thoughts, feelings and emotions as they explore their relationship. There's an HEA!
Excellent character development ! Expectations and limitations for a Companion are clarified. Lady Juliet and her companion, Emma, are a dynamic duo. Their friendship is deep and their personalities are charming, forthright, and determined. Giles, Earl of Bargrave, changes from being a selfish uncle to a genuine gentleman under the guidance of his niece, Lady Juliet, and her companion, Miss Emma Lawder. Since Emma is the daughter of a Baron who has lacked the love and support of her father, she earns admiration in high regard by Giles and Juliet. Best of all, it is the women who save the Earl from a plot to entrap him.
Emma has been forced to become a companion to a young lady named Juliet. Tossed out of her home by her Baron father to make her way in the world, Emma considers herself fortunate to have found a kind family with a wonderful daughter she is close in age to. Although she is sent to London with Juliet to be sponsored by Juliet’s uncle, the Earl of Bargrave, for the Season, Emma is not jealous she cannot have a Season herself. Emma is humble and kind. She is wading through new territory and is trying to adjust to the ups and downs of this restrictive lifestyle.
Good things may just come to a loving companion. This was a lovely romance between an unwanted daughter and a rather selfish earl. Emma has a heart of gold and is not only a companion to Juliet but a firm friend. Emma is a character to admire. Bargrave on the other hand has some growing up to do but he turns out to be a great character in the end. The villains of the tale were taken care of in a very interesting way. This was an excellent story a bit different but I loved every minute reading it. I did receive a free copy of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review it.
Giles, the Earl of Bargrave, didn’t want to chaperone his niece, Lady Juliet, for the Season, but he knows he must honor his commitment to his sister. Lady Juliet brings along a companion, Miss Emma Lawder. Giles begins their stay with him by ignoring them their first day. Juliet and Emma are both strong ladies and don’t let anyone push them around. Interesting to watch the antics of different members of the ton as the story progresses. Enjoyable read.

Simple story of three characters who start out with many misconceptions. They struggle with a conflict between expectations and goals.
The Earl starts out very head strong and has spent his time and life in very selfish ways and wished to continue as such. Fate intervened and his high spirited niece and her companion arrive and shake his world.
Through gentle guidance and friendly advice from a friend the Earl sees how he needs to change to be a better person.
Add a large dose of intrigue and you have a enjoyable story.
She a companion because of the selfishness of her father. She finds a very good position and totally enjoys her charge. As they stay with her uncle he struggles with having his niece there are she needs his help and he selfishly wants to enjoy himself as usual. TOTALLY enjoyed this book So many unexpected things happening . . .

Lord Bargrave takes on chaperoning his niece and companion out of guilt and regrets immediately. He was rude and dismissive, especially to companion, Miss Lawder. Bothered by her outspoken nature it is that trait that is his salvation and has him understanding and changing his past behavior. She proves her integrity and loyalty which opens his heart and hers to love.

This is another fantastic regency romance by Rose Pearson, the Queen of regency romance! I really loved this book. I loved that Lady Juliet stuck up for her companion and always did what she felt was right. She showed her uncle that being outspoken was not always as bad thing. Lady Fullerton was the perfect nastiest villain! I did feel bad for Lord Fullerton. I thought this book was original and well written. I highly recommend this book and this author!.
Miss Emma Lawder has been sent away by her uncaring father. She becomes a companion to Lady Juliet and accompanies her to London for the season.
Lady Juliet and Emma go to London to stay with her uncle, Giles who is the Earl of Bargrave. The earl only agreed to chaperone Lady Juliet as a favour for his sister who lives in Scotland and who’s husband is ill so she can’t come herself. He does not think Emma is needed and so tries to ignore her. Emma thinks he is arrogant.
Can Emma and Giles get over the animosity between them?
This is a lovely story with a couple of twists as well.

“Protected by the Companion” by Rose Pearson Sweet Clean Regency Romance This was a fun page-turning story. An Earl with an attitude, a Miss abandoned by her family to forge her own way, a Lady having her come-out season… a really good easy reading story. Happy Reading ! ! NOTE: This review expresses my honest opinion. I received an ARC of this story from the author via BookSprout.
Enjoyable.... Well with the exception of Lady Fullerton and Sarah Ann - people of the TON can already be over the top, but these 2 are seriously.....YIKES! Getting to know Giles his niece Lady Juliet and her companion Emma, was a good story. Honesty was not had by all at first - but that soon changed.
The strain of being a companion, when you should be having your own coming out , is hard indeed. The grace and style in which Lady Emma handles this is superb. The strife she receives from Lady Juliet's Uncle, the earl of Belgrave, is hurtful and harsh. Can she survive the season? Read and find out.

This story was interesting but had a male protagonist who changed to suit what the author wanted from the story, but it just wasn't written well enough to make it plausible. He starts of cold, selfish and ignoring his house guests and this goes on for some time, as this seems his character, yet after chatting with one person he is constant in being warm and sunny? Implausible.
A strong storyline and an impressive plot. This is one tremendously enjoyable read. It's heartwarming, fast paced and filled with romance and an unexpected connection, and a unique romance.

This is a well-written story with a plausible plot. The characters are well-written for a short story, and our hero makes a dynamic character change, because of his niece and her companion. This story is a pleasant read and worth the read.
Loved this Book! The Earl begins the story as a selfish jerk without true feelings for anyone other than himself. A favor requested by a sister is the beginning of self doubt and a woman he once scorned saves him more than once! It is an exciting tale!!
I'm really enjoying this series and all the characters. I loved Lord Bargrave and Emma's story. He didn't think he wanted to marry. She didn't think marriage was possible for her. These two found that love can't be denied. A great Regency Read.
