Sebastian was adventurous, mischievous, and quite mysterious, unlike his brother, Tomas who was quiet and predictable. Their father, the king of Erras, knew his sons were special, but his fear held an echoing silence. He could not speak of the ancient prophecy that would bring his kingdom to its knees. But no king has the ability to undo destiny and one winter, a young Sebastian found himself holding the power to change the world. A cruel curse unlocked, bringing forth a quest for honor.
In a flash of lightning, the people saw evil-demon, monster... dragon... Stripped of everything he loves, Sebastian finds himself among a legion of enchanted warriors, in the midst of war and betrayal, love and fear. He must learn to control the dragon within. If he fails, the world will surely burn.
A new order of Chaos reigns in this story of dark magic, kings, bloodlines lost, and hearts broken in the ultimate adventure to reclaim one's birthright.
Author of Legion of Fire, Book of in The Legend of Chaos.
"I wanted to be an astronaut or Optimus Prime when I was young. Although I love writing and I could write books about either of those professions, I grew up to be a businesswoman and an author."
One of best fantasy fiction LGBTQIA+ novels I have read to date. Representation matters and Wicks has beyond delivered with an inclusive cast and gay love storyline. Action, adventure, redemption...this novel has something for everyone. Highly recommend!
Fantasy fiction is alive and well in this thrilling new saga. Epic battles, sibling rivalry, doomed fate, and legendary prophecies collide in the first of hopefully many more sequels.
The story follows Sebastian, a young prince and heir to the throne cursed with powers beyond their kingdoms understanding. Fighting for his place in the world, Seb is forced to reclaim his birthright, lose the ones he loves, and decide for himself if he is monster or if he is king.
So looking forward to the next in the series. Being that this book also features queer characters and a gay main one, this book is just what we need for positive inclusion of the LGBTQIA+ community.
I don't write reviews often but I have to admit that this book was really excellent and worth taking a few minutes of my day to write. I just finished this one and am compelled to tell the world that they need to pick it up, right now. The book is part one in a series. The series sounds like a tale about a god named Chaos and his adventures which is what a fantasy story does right? Well, this book does that on an elevated level. The story is extremely well thought out. There are hints of things in this story that don't go anywhere and it makes me wonder if it is a setup for the next book. Either way, I am a fan.
I dig and dig for the most amazing queer books I can find that isn't corny or gimmicky. A lot of gay stories are the same old thing, so I haven't read many until now! I love Legion of Fire! This book is so neat, I can't even describe how unique and interesting it is. I got it as a gift or else I would have bought the autographed novel because I really want to know more about Rey Wicks. She seems funny and diverse which makes it even cooler that a woman is writing m/m gay fantasy. The story is outstanding and that is putting it plainly. The book starts out kind of slow in my opinion and is mostly about the main character establishing his place in the world and falling in love. As I read through, I got about half way and wondered if the love story was the foundation of the book, then I realized the love story is the foundation of Chaos's outcoming. A lot of love stories are made suspenseful from heart break and it is such a great trope. Legion of Fire is beautiful. I will just say, go read it, because it's so violent and sexy in a non triggering way. It's fun. Highly recommend!
When I began reading this I didn’t know the LGBTQ+ elements were there. I read the book as a fantasy novel and nothing more. The story was interesting. The characters well-developed and the world building compelling. The plot seemed to be ambitious, but that was to be expected as it is the beginning of a series. As the fantasy of Erras and Sebastian and Tomas, the twin brothers, unfolded it had elements of many fantasy tales. The twins are princes to their dying king who is holding onto an ancient prophecy. The story, here, is about the adventurous and prankster son, Prince Sebastian who is filled with a chaotic nature that threatens to destroy the world. Enjoyed the dark magic, the royal lineage, and the journey of Sebastian as he found himself surrounded by a legion of warriors in the midst of a war. All this as a war plays out and Sebastian attempts to control the dragon within. Really enjoyed the author’s use of contrast between the brothers. It seems as if the author is setting up an upcoming head-to-head face off between the brothers. Fun read.
This book caught my attention among the sea of popular fantasy titles, mainly because the title was eye catching. Immediately, upon reading the title, I knew it had to be something to do with medieval battle. Although the story starts out slow, and focuses a lot on the young hormone driven main character's obsession with his first love, it came together about half way through when things started to get violent.
I love how Sebastian is such an emo kid (although a prince) he is just like, leave me alone and let me get away from my dozen siblings. I can't imagine developing powers as a teen just to find out that this cool new thing that only you can do, is actually something that got his ancestor exiled and I assume eventually killed. Now he has work to do, and his dad the king tries to help him learn, but it doesn't do much good. From the ripe age of 17, this kid is forced to be the man of the house so to speak and now he is super pi**ed off and then his brother gets even more p'd off and there starts the war, but the MC is still brand new to his power and ends up causing a lot more problems than he wanted.
The story is very busy. There is a lot of characters going in every direction and it can be hard to keep up, but I think the author did a great job deligating each one's part. Yes, there were weird things happening that don't make since, but since this is the first book in a series, I assume there will be more explanations to come.
Great book, recommended highly. Just buy it because I think this series is going to be a big one!
There is lots that is positive in this book, and in the hands of the right reader, it will be greatly enjoyed. I don’t think I am the right reader, but still had fun on the journey. There is certainly a lot going on in this story - about a decade of political upheaval as far as I can tell. Quite an adventure for sure!
The story centres on Sebastian and his brother Tomas who are the classic fantasy “gifted” chosen ones. But of course, the gift is double edged, and even a fated path is challenging. They are joined by an extensive and varied cast who embark on a litany of loving, betrayal, and downright evil ruthlessness, which is fun. You are certainly never short of action here.
A central tenet of the story is romance - and in particular romance between Sebastian and the men in his life. This is clearly a story of teenage discovery and enlightenment, which is great, but for me the romance was a bit too much. Huge political and military decisions were made on the back of what is, essentially, young love, and this just feels a bit stretched. I’m all up for a bit of reckless action, but this was perhaps a step too far.
But if young romance is your thing (and it is certainly a very popular genre) then this adventure is probably right up your street. Packed full of love and action, it is a whirlwind of chaos for sure.
A Coming Of Age story where the main character must learn to grow even more.
I don't sit and binge read books. And I don't rate books 5 stars. To be honest the only reason I even glanced at the book was because the cover is frickin' gorgeous. So I gave it a chance and boy oh boy, it had me mesmerized. One of those rare books I couldn't put down. I don't know why, it just had me hook, line, and sinker.
Despite being LGBT and writing LGBT novels, I don't read LGBT stories because they're often very explicit and rely on stereotypes to form a character. This book has the spice of paprika and I didn't find that much by way of stereotypes. This was a very sound novel with a clear goal in mind despite being the first in a trilogy. It does end with a bit of a cliffhanger, which I don't actually mind because it just makes me want the next book.
There were several typos and grammatical errors I saw, and some areas I would have rewritten to show more rather than tell, but my takeaway from that is that this author is a human who put months of blood, sweat, and probably many many tears into the manuscript. None of that AI crap.
I definitely recommend this book, especially if you like poly LGBT stories. Normally I don't but again, this was an exception. Thoroughly enjoyed it and I cannot wait for the next installment to arrive so I can follow the journey and see how the main character continues to grow.
I actually bought this book for my teen son who is gay and wants ALL the gay fantasy books I can find. I found this one because a friend of mine follows author Rey Wicks on Instagram. I read it first because I’m a mom and I want to make sure it is appropriate. My son is 15. This book is great for teens and adults. I loved it and I know he will as well. Sebastian is a wonderful character. My son will relate to him and his personality so much. Ms. Wicks is THE queen of fantasy fiction. I have read a lot of fantasy and all of them are similar in one way or another but this story is really different in a good way. It the story of a god who lives in a world surrounded by humans. Normally the humans worship the gods but not in Legion of Fire. These people want him dead, especially his own brother who we read about beating and torturing this god to his breaking point. We see Sebastian come from just this hyper teenager to this powerful man that doesn’t know his own powers until something very scary happens. There are so many neat characters, a beautiful world, and a GAME OF THRONES storyline that I absolutely adore.
All I want to say is wow! I need the second book in the series asap. This book is about a boy/man named Sebastian Drake who is in love with Cyrus, or maybe Will, or Dom. The point is, he is young, and unruly and does whatever he wants whenever he wants, at least until someone has had enough and they go medieval on him. This story gets scary, and dramatic, and is so wonderfully written. Like I said, I need the second one now!
Creative and has good depth in character development. I loved reading fantasy growing up and this book adds some new twists for the times. Really cool!
This novel is one of those books that once you open it, you will want to dedicate an entire day to it. At least that is how it happened for me. I got my ebook and sat in the comfy chair by the window while my husband went to work and before I knew it, it was 6 o'clock and my husband was home again. HA!
Legion of Fire has a refreshing spin on the modern LGBTQ fantasy books I have picked up over the years. It is immersive and you will get trapped inside the pages easily. The hero, Sebastian is one of those characters I can tell is going to change a lot throughout the series. He is essentially growing up from a kid in Legion of Fire to a confused and frustrated man. He faces a series of tragic and seemingly painful events where you kind of know he is in big trouble and something nasty is about to happen, but then it turns completely into a horror show and you can feel the pain as you read along. But with all great fantasy novels, this one has your hero on a quest to change the world while falling in love. The best part is, our hero is a god and a king and MOST importantly, (to me) is that he is all of these things, and a hopelessly in love gay boy with a lover that is that sweet, you want to protect them type.
I love the battle scenes, the beautiful world we get to create in our mind, the sexiness and unrated violence. It is all a win and I desperately want book 2 now that I am finished with book 1. To the author, Rey W. Please hurry up and publish book 2. I need it! Thank you for this story!
