While this book is geared at emergent readers with word repetition and simple sentence structure ; I liked the fact that it talked about being inspired and creating art.
A great first read for my nanny kiddo, the plot made sense, and the protagonist has a great arc where he doubts that art can be made outside, but his friends change his mind.
I relate to Pete the Kitty in this story because I, too, was always resentful and hesitant anytime teachers tried to get us to do anything hands on and/or out of the usual school routine. It's nice that the other kids are into the idea of going outside to create art out of things they find in nature, which leads Pete to slowly get on board with the activity. My daughter is starting outdoor preschool later this year, so we enjoyed chatting about how she will probably do outdoor art projects in the fall.
This is an early reader so it's no literary masterpiece. However, it's a great simple story that can easily lead in to an activity for preschoolers or early elementary students. It includes bigger topics like dealing with disappointment, having an open mind, and getting creative. In the end the students all make art projects out of items they find in nature making it a great transition to do the same with your own kids.
A stronger entry into the Pete the Kitty easy reader series, this relatable little story shows Pete exploring new horizons when his art class does something he's unfamiliar with--collecting natural objects outdoors to create an art project. Pete learns that by giving something new a chance, he can be creative in unexpected ways.
I'm a huge Pete the Cat fan, and this one did not disappoint. I love that it has a strong message about finding and creating art out of unconventional pieces. I love how it has the message to give new activities a chance when you haven't tried them yet. I love that all the "kids" created different, unique pieces. I love the message about the importance of art in life.
This Pete the Kitty adventure features an art project at school that involves using natural items to create works of art. Pete and his friends enjoy a different way to express their creativity. Pete fans will enjoy this one. Recommended for Grades K-1.
