Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.

"Sleep to Heal: 7 Simple Steps to Better Sleep" by Abhinav Singh offers a practical guide to improving one's sleep quality, addressing a common and vital aspect of overall well-being. Singh's book stands out for its positive and actionable approach, breaking down complex sleep science into manageable steps for readers. I found it very practical for myself and my sleep improvements.
The book begins on a positive note by emphasizing the importance of quality sleep for health and productivity. Singh's seven-step approach provides a clear framework, making it accessible for readers seeking to enhance their sleep habits. The inclusion of evidence-based insights adds credibility to the book's recommendations, empowering readers to make informed choices.
However, the book's brevity may leave some readers wanting more detailed explanations or additional tips beyond the fundamental seven steps. While the simplicity aids accessibility, individuals with specific sleep issues might find the book lacking in tailored guidance.
In summary, "Sleep to Heal" is a commendable guide for those looking to improve their sleep habits and overall well-being. Its positive tone and actionable steps make it suitable for a broad audience. However, readers seeking a more in-depth exploration of sleep-related topics may find the book serves as a valuable introduction rather than an exhaustive resource.
Personally, I think there should be a book like this especially for the chronically ill and those who are disabled. For those who are not able to exercise or with a (involuntary) sedentary lifestyle, for those who do very well know that screens are to be avoided at nighttime, and for those, when visiting a specialist, it means they have to pay for it because of their lack of energy.
Being housebound, and ill with ME for over 18 years now, my heart breaks when I read about the misery all those people with Long Covid are dealing with. Similar to my own. Could dysautonomia and sleep be related (or the other way around)? Especially for this particular group of people? What is the longterm effect of drugs like Amitriptyline? We don't know, as there isn't that much being researched, unfortunately.
I think there should be a book like this especially for those who live by the motto 'don't worry, everything is out of control.' Yes, I'm in a philosophical mood :), but the world is a mess and both ableism and disinterest are a very big part of this.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the book.
I struggle with sleep and wake up often during the night so I was looking forward to any type of advice to help me sleep that didn't involve taking any type of medication or prescription to do so. Unfortunately I think the only thing about this book that put me to sleep was reading it. I felt a huge part of the book was about case studies of how other people suffer with sleep. There is some great reminders in here why we need to sleep due to health issues and daily performance in our lives. There is a sleep quotient assessment that you can take about 25% into the book but besides that, it didn't really resonate with me. The author at one point did suggest taking 1/2 milligram of melatonin at specific times during the day to help with jet lag but once again, it's nothing different than I already take and do. A lot of the suggestions in the third portion is the normal advice you can find online without having to read a book and for a person who has trouble going to sleep and staying asleep, these don't always work.
Thank you so Netgalley and Humanix books for this ARC. I was given this ARC for my honest opinion.
I think that this title will appeal to so many people. After all, getting a good night’s sleep is often quite challenging. The effects of being constantly over tired can lead to health and mental health issues, yet so many don’t know what to do. So, seeing a title that promises just 7 steps and knowing it is written by a doctor whose interest is preventive medicine, are good reasons to give this book a look. It may just improve the quality of the reader’s life.
Readers may be tempted to move right to section three, “What Better Sleep Looks Like.” Of course, this is fine but there is much of interest in the book’s preceding two sections entitled “Unlocking the Secrets of Sleep,” and, “The Rx Factor-Sleep is Medicine.” Throughout the entire book, Dr. Singh is a helpful guide.
Pick this one up if you have trouble sleeping or if you just would like to sleep a bit better. It is very readable and it might just work for you.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Humanix Books for this title. All opinions are my own.
This is the first book I read on Sleep. I am interested in this subject due to my health currently. I never gave sleep any thought in the past, except it was not something that restored me. I went to bed tired and wore up tired and thought that was just the way it was. This book has educated me so much and I understand now that the sleep I always had, is not normal and hope to improve that soon!
Sleep to Heal is full of information, given in a friendly way, down to earth, with explanations that are easy to understand. I generally do not read non-fiction, but I am so glad that I found this book and was motivated to read it. Dr. Abhinav Singh gives examples of patients he has helped in his book and I can be added to that number. He has definitely helped me!
Thank you to Humanix Books and NetGalley for allowing me to read the advance reader copy, with no obligation to write a review. My review is written freely as a hobby, and is totally my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.
When browsing this book at the bookstore, the “sleep elevator” page is what drew me in. I thought I would get a book that taught me about what is going in the body during those stages, and it did a little bit, but I would have liked to have been taught more about this. The author wrote in a way that made me feel like he was talking to me and that made the book pretty quick to read and mostly enjoyable. But there were some parts that I skimmed over and I felt like there was a lot of filler in. I liked his strategies but I get a lot of those from lots of sleep books or chapters about sleep in health books. So, I am still on the hunt for a book that dives more into what is going on in the brain and body on those different “elevator” floors. I really loved that analogy and it will always stick with me.
I just reviewed Sleep to Heal by Abhinav Singh. #SleeptoHeal #NetGalley where I give my honest opinion in exchange for a free copy.
I don't know how this book got published. It's more about HOW he's going to tell you how to sleep to heal, than him ACTUALLY telling you what to do/change. There's so much language & unnecessary verbiage to impress the readers, & tons of proof that sleep is needed & how when it improves your life is so much better.
I'm 60% in and I can't read anymore of his self-aggrandizing BS. I'm DNF here.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. As someone that suffers from a sleep disorder, I found this book to be insightful. In addition to providing ideas to help with sleep, "Sleep To Heal" gave some very interesting facts regarding sleep in regards to health .
I struggle with sleep so this title caught my attention. I thank NetGalley for the ARC for the purpose of this review. It's a five star book. I learned a lot about the sleep habits we can have and how to change them in order to heal ourselves. Very helpful information.
I have struggled to sleep most of my life and this has adversely affected my health and relationships so I am looking forward to see if this book will help me. It is easy to read and full of ideas and explanations so hopefully will make a difference.
Excellent book about sleep. Many books on sleep are very dry and clinical. This is written in an easy to read manner, and while it does include some of the science, it's definitely not dry and clinical. Good practical advice about correcting poor sleep as well as maintaining good sleep habits.
Simple techniques for a better nights sleep which is what we all need. Some of this isn’t new but it’s well worth a read if you need help to sleep better or just want to learn more.
I loved how easy this book was to read. I also really liked how everything was backed by science and research. I learned a lot about sleep and these darn phones are cutting into that lol.
I just reviewed Sleep to Heal by Abhinav Singh. #SleeptoHeal #NetGalley [NetGalley URL]. Some of the tips in this book actually helped me get some great sleep. I'm impressed!
Interesting book on sleep and how it affects your life. I get very little sleep so it had some interesting viewpoints and ideas. Thanks NetGalley for the ARC that I give my honest opinion on.
succinct with some great metaphors to help you understand power and value of sleep! prepare and plan to sleep like you would get ready for a long plane trip...
The book is an enjoyable read: scientific, relatable, and inspirational. I liked that the book is written as a conversation that involves scientific data about sleep. The author, a doctor, Abhinav Singh uses stories of patients to describe sleep diagnosis and remedies. Lastly, there is a nice list of 50 reasons why sleep is good for you, your health, and future to consider sleeping better.
