It's a very confusing book to follow. I don't think this book is proofread. For instance on page 335 it's written that Ansuman is Sagara's son, and then on page 336, Ansuman is Sagara's grandson.
Page 337, "ashes if the two princes...." Who are these 2 princes?? Where do they come from. This book often introduces a character out of the nowhere.
Glossary contains names that aren't used on the book. For example, Achilles, Izanami, Anubis, Thor... Why would you include them here? I understand that these characters appear on the other book of the series but not here...
I'm so disappointed at this book that I created a Goodreads account just to leave a review. Don't buy this one.
“Collector’s Editions: Tales of Heroes, Gods & Monsters: Indian Myths & Legends” A New Introduction by Dr. Raj Balkaran, General Editor: J. K. Jackson. ISBN: 978-1-80417-327-5
This was gifted to me from a family friend who lives in New Zealand. There’s a reading list and glossary terms.
The book splits into 13 sections with further stories in each. I’m going to list the titles for the sections: 1. Series Forword 2. A new introduction to Indian Myths & Legends 3. Further reading 4. Tales of the Ramayana 5. The Saga of the Mahabharata 6. More Tales of the Mahabharata 7. Legends of Indira and Yama 8. Legends of Krishna 9. Legends of Shiva 10. Legends of Buddha 11. Tales of the Hitopadesha 12. Miscellaneous Myths 13. A glossary of myths and folklore
There are no pictures in this book. The cover is beautiful. It reminds me of a book I read as a child which captures your imagination about the Indian mythology and tales.
I would say this book is suited for adults not children. It’s written in a way that the authors of this book are “telling” not “showing” e.g., Krishna and Radha chapter.
This is the type of you book you can dip in and out.
