Chase
People take one look at me and see a pretty face.
Because that’s what I want them to see.
What they don’t know is the truth behind the façade I’ve perfected.
The welfare kid who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks.
When she looks at me, though, she sees it all.
The one person I haven’t been able to hide from.
The one person who gets me like no one else can.
She’s also the one person I’m not supposed to touch.
But I always get what I want. Eventually.
Hope Williamson will be mine—she already is.
And soon everyone will know it, including her.
Hope
I’ve been scared since I was sixteen years old.
I’m really good at pretending I’m not though.
I’ve perfected the art of losing myself in partying hard.
Being the fun, outgoing twin.
The exact opposite of my sister.
I don’t know how he always seems to know.
But he does.
Chase Mathers, my cousin’s best friend.
He knows when I’m afraid.
He chases away my demons like no one else can.
He makes me feel safe…
Even though the monsters lurking behind his eyes should terrify me the most.

I want to love this book so much and give it a 5 stars but I can’t. Their love story is one of the most annoying things that i very much dislike in the history of my reading novels🥵😆💀
First, i read this book because I’m into this author lately. Like i want to read this author’s books for now especially this book right here is actually still a family member from the previous book that i read “The Unhinged Desires”. It got me so curious to where I’m like, I’m gonna read these! Lol. Also the stories is not too long either so it was easy for me 😆
So here why I don’t like this type of love story from a book and hopefully you get it. But either way, this is just me tho…
1. first POV from the hero is when he is 18 years old and have a best friend who is truly a good friend of his named ash aka the heroine’s cousin. the hero claimed in that age that he wants the heroine and want to give her everything but he can’t cause he doesn’t want to hurt or damaged his friendship with the cousin. cause the cousin and the heroine are very close tight family…. SO SINCE HE WAS THAT YOUNG, HE IS VERY MUCH INTO THE HEROINE AND CLAIMED TO REALLY BE OBSESSED WITH HER. BUT… He didn’t made a single motherfckin move for 8 years. YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT. EIGHT YEARS to the heroine. Only flirting words but never further than that for EIGHT. I repeat. 8 FVCKING YEARS. What the fvck is that? That made me drop it to 3 stars immediately… I hate and disgusted with love stories like this. That love for many years but never made a move… and watching by far. not like a stalker tho but still he watched her and have true feelings for her for years… 2. A total manwhor3. So annoying. He claimed to love and have feelings for the heroine for MANY YEARS BUT FVCKS MANY WOMAN LEFT AND RIGHT?! AND EVEN HIS SECOND POV IN THE BEGINNING STARTS WITH HIM MORNING AFTER WITH FOUR WOMAN BESIDE HIM IN HIS BED? AND LATER WHEN HE GOT TOGETHER WITH THE HEROINE, HE USED THE FVCKING SAME BED. Disgusting 💀💀💀 Not a right way to start a pov from the hero. I hate and disgusted with the manwhor3. It just ruins it all for me sorry😓 3. HE BOUGHT A RING FOR THE HEROINE THREE YEARS BEFORE THEY GOT OFFICIAL but during that time he didn’t made a move and become a total manwhor3… It just fvcking bullzhit. If i was the heroine, i rejected him immediately 😆 4. When he asked the heroine to marry him, he didn’t asked her father’s blessings. When he knows for a long fvcking time that she is close to his dad like a best friend and he is also close with them for years! The hero have the nerve to say to her dad that he won’t asking permission and this is not the old days to do that. Like wtf? When i read that I’m like so annoyed💀 If they have a bad relationship it would be best not to ask but they have the best father daughter relationship ever!
What I don’t like the most is number 1 till number 3 🙄🙄 I don’t even want to write and put the quotes from the book cause how i really don’t like romance like this… Thank God the unhinged desires is FAR MORE BETTER THAN THIS ONE FOR SURE😋😋 I do however will write some of the things i like to write and gonna make it short lol. I like it when the hero and heroine love story started already, without with the years of waiting and nothing and years of only wanting but too scared. It just so annoying to read that especially the hero being such a manwhor3 during those years while always thinking about the heroine💀💀💀 I rest my case…
‼️‼️‼️TRIGGERS: R*pe, killing, high on violence, mafia, PTSD, panic attacks and hospital.
‼️‼️‼️It has pushing away from the heroine couple of times but not too annoying and not too much either… No ex boyfriend or ex fvck buddy ex girlfriend from both side ever shows up… They talked about the past but its only from the heroine side, not the hero. NO CHEATING….
‼️‼️‼️The hero is over the top possessive protective millionaire alpha male, many jealous scenes from the hero and one from the heroine. The heroine have been through a lot in the past so she have panic attacks and anxiety and ptsd moments couple of times so if you are sensitive about that then i highly suggested you to not read this book 🙏🏼
‼️‼️‼️The heroine was celibate since she was 16 years old. And well the hero, not very much….
NO VIRGINS.
The heroine is definitely clean. But the hero well before it got official between them, he was fvcking many woman in one night. He says he never go bare before but at least be honest with her about it lol.
‼️‼️‼️ONE THING THAT I LOVED MOST ABOUT THIS BOOK: is that the heroine have a very close and great relationship with her parents! seriously so beautiful🥺 and she also have a great relationship with her big family, her aunts and uncles and cousins from both side of her parents. it’s so refreshing to see that❤️❤️❤️ i love those parts so much😍
‼️‼️‼️Their chemistry is fine and amazing. Overall the romance between them is very romantic… slow burn but it’s also not too long. I love how the hero just really adores and accept the heroine the way she is despite of her having her moments… but again, because of the number 1 till 3 above that i wrote, it just really kills the vibe for me… AGAIN THIS IS JUST ME 😅
‼️‼️‼️HAPPY ENDING. Married and have a baby ❤️❤️❤️
👉🏽👉🏽👉🏽Thank you so much for reading my review❤️ For you who loves my review and follow it, THANK YOU SO MUCH. I did not get paid or be told to do a review on a book. I’m here just to write review about a book so i can remember it. Its my honest opinion😚 I didn’t know at first people will find me and follow me and trust me to be honest, I was surprised myself to look at the notifications from people who reach out to me😆 So everything i write down here on a review is based on my personal opinion and based on my true writing. I DID NOT COPY SOMEONE’S REVIEW OR WRITING SKILL because at first when i was using this app for one year i didn’t know how to scroll down on a book and see the reviews from others😂😅🤣 I know, silly me but hey I finally learned my lesson 😛😛😛 Thats why when people assume i copy someone’s review i was like what? Because at first i didn’t know how to use this app properly and i didn’t know how to open someone’s review because for a year i never follow someone or add friends or someone😂😂😂🤣 (I’m laughing so hard) 🤪 AND I NEVER COPY SOMEONE’S REVIEW EVER. IF I WRITE SOMETHING WRONG OR DOESN’T MAKE SENSE PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND BE NICE OKAY. 👈🏽👈🏽👈🏽✋🏽✋🏽 IF YOU'RE BEING MEAN AND NEGATIVE ALREADY WITH A WARNING AND NOT BEING WISE TO ME, I WILL NOT ENTIRELY READ YOUR COMMENT AND REMOVE YOU EASILY AND FAST. I DO NOT TOLERATE NEGATIVE COMMENT SO KNOW YOUR PLACE, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I’m writing my disclaimer again here cause many negative people still don't get it or still be stupid enough not to understand my POV when I already write it so many times before. So here I am writing it again to you beautifuls human being😁😁 WHEN YOU READ MY LONG OR SHORT REVIEW, YOU WOULD KNOW THAT WHAT I LIKE ABOUT A STORY AND CHARACTERS RIGHT... IF YOU DON'T KNOW THEN HERE IT IS: I LIKE A BOOK WITH VERY POSSESSIVE PROTECTIVE ALPHA MALE, NO CHEATING, AND PLEASE NO MANWHOR3, NO MANY PUSHING AWAY, NO DOORMAT HEROINES, NO MANY OW DRAMA, NO S3X SCENE WITH SOMEONE ELSE. AND SAFE ALL THE WAY AND A HAPPY ENDING. Something that I don't like it very much if the hero or heroine have a crazy fvcked up personality and likes. Example: killing someone and let the heroine watch it all and push the heroine to lick all the blood of his victim and made her have to eat the meat of humans. and fvcks many woman in front of the heroine while telling her he loves her. I DON'T LIKE THAT TYPE OF SH*T AT ALL. That's just who I am, that's what I like and I don't like on a book. Maybe you love that, but I don't. We humans are different, we think very differently from one another. You have your likes and I have mine, you have your opinions and I have mine of my own. You think it's stupid of me to love such a book or to not love a book or to hate it whatever lol, I think it's bad you think that way cause I respect people's opinions cause I know for a fact we have our differences. YOU AND ME ARE DIFFERENT FOR PETE'S SAKE. I even have my own friends or people I follow here that shows how much they don't like the book I like, I never even give them a long comment or short Comment. Cause I respect their opinions. I don't like to give people I hard time here cause life itself is already hard enough. I do respect your opinion if you say my review is bad or whatever negative things about it, but in the end of the day I will not changed my mind about what book I dislike and how my thoughts about it. You can't tell me what to do. You can give me advice but it's me who decided to know what's right for me, this is my life and not yours. Read that again. Don’t assume things about me that is not even real, just don’t. cause when you do you’re more small minded for sure. You're thinking why I'm telling you all of this when you already know? Is because you still hating on my opinions and don't understand my POV and don't respect my POV. You think i like writing this disclaimer when obviously you're an adult already? no i personally think this is unnecessary... but because there are people out there who still don't get it *rolling my eyes*. Hopefully they or the people who read this disclaimer can use a beautiful thing called a brain:) AND WHEN YOU READ MY REVIEW, READ IT VERY CLEARLY TO SEE IF I FINISHED THE BOOK OR NOT. KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. AND YES ENGLISH IS NOT MY FIRST LANGUAGE. BUT IF YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M WRITING, THEN IT MEANS YOU UNDERSTAND IT ENOUGH. I DO NOT TOLERATE BULLYING, NEGATIVE COMMENTS AND MEAN WORDS. PLEASE USE A WISE WORDS SO WE DON'T ATTACK EACH OTHER. SIMPLY, I DON’T LIKE TO HAVE AN ARGUMENT WITH STRANGERS LIKE YOU CAUSE I HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO😚 BUT IF YOU STILL WANT TO BE AMBER HEARD KARENS THAT DON'T UNDERSTAND MY DISCLAIMER AFTER I JUST WRITE IT DOWN, THEN GO ENJOY YOUR DAY AND GO AWAY. IT'S VERY EASY FOR A HUMAN COULD DO YA KNOW. IF YOU STILL HERE HATING ME OR ANNOYED WITH ME, THAT'S YOUR PROBLEM. NOT ME PROBLEM. HASHTAGS BURN😂😂 DON'T TAKE THINGS TOO PERSONALLY ON ONLINE CAUSE WE ALL A STRANGERS, WE NEVER EVER MEET. WE'RE ADULTS HERE SO LETS BE WISER. LAST, I BLOCK NEGATIVE PEOPLE! SO GET WELL SOON TO THE HATERS. HOPEFULLY YOUR HEART AND MIND WILL BE MORE POSITIVE 🙏🙏🙏 AND THIS DISCLAIMER MAY SEEMS LIKE TOO HARSH ON YOU BUT HEY I DON'T LIKE TO SUGAR COATED THINGS. I LIKE TO SAY TO THE POINT WITH MY UNDERSTANDING AND MY OWN THOUGHTS, CAUSE THAT'S HOW HUMANS ARE. WE ARE DIFFERENT REMEMBER👍 HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!!
I can’t even say exactly what it is that I adore so much about this series, but I really do. And getting these next generation books is like the gift they keeps on giving. Seeing the original characters as doting overprotective parents is everything. And Bray…. Oh, my ::swoon:: the way he is perfect for his baby girl Hope during her struggles just like he was for his sister? My heart melted.
This is a Bray and Reilly’s daughter Hope’s story. Chase is best friends with Ash, who is Zac and Alyssa’s son, and they consider him an honorary son as he’s been around for years and had a horrible home life. He’s wanted Hope for a number of years, but the timing wasn’t right. Then there was the issue of Ash saying she was off limits. Hope was the more outgoing twin, but at 16 was assaulted by her boyfriend. Her mob cousins stopped the r@pe, and killed the bf in front of her. She has spent the past 8 years struggling to move past it. Chase is exactly what she needs, and the timing is finally right.
Like the previous books, the storylines overlap with the others in the series. If you don’t read them in order, there will be parts that seem like they either are weirdly mentioned or should be described more as they pertain to situations with the other characters. In this book for example, Lily blurts out in a phone call “faith got kidnapped by her birth mother..Luca got shot.. some people broke in my house and tried to kill me… it’s been a day”. If you haven’t read the previous book none of those things would’ve made sense to you as none of those people or stories had even been introduced in this book, and after that conversation they aren’t brought up again. It threw me off the first time I noticed it because I started initially with Bray and Reilly’s book, but now that I’ve read them all it’s less off putting.
Like I said, I love this weird world and cast of characters. I’m glad they have so many kids, because I’m not ready to say goodbye!
OMG what an awesome Surprise Release this book was.
This book is absolutely phenomenal and hits every emotion in the stratosphere including lust!! Heartfelt, stunning, respectful, steamy .... just a few words I can use for this tale. My heart hurt for Hope, melted with chase and rejoiced with the couple.
Hope is successful in her own right, she is beautiful, she knows her worth but she also is self aware. She knows who she is, yet she still has insecurities and justified fears from her past. What I will say is that, this girl is waaaayyyy stronger than she thinks. I was in awe at how amazing she is Kent broke the stereotype and just kept going. The journey this character goes on is just magnificent.
Chase has to be labelled the ultimate alpha with all the usual attributes and so much more....his care, his dedication, his understanding and his openness with Hope is just outstanding...but also he doesn't just capitulate and give her the world. He challenges, he protects and he loves while doing it. Don't get me wrong he has his own demons too but he faces them head on.
As always the cas with a Kent book, the supporting characters we all know and love are just as endearing loving and meddlesome / protective. However, the love I had for Bray before this book, well wow it intensified during this read...you cannot doubt his love for his girls and wow what a love that is.
This book ticks all the boxes, love, drama, family, a twist you didn't see coming...its all there. However please read the trigger warnings. This book is hard hitting with a sensitive subject matter but is beautifully packaged and dealt with Uber respectfully.
If you want a book that you need to read more of, this is the one...
Kylie has smashed it again we have seen glimpses of both Chase and Hope throughout a number of the Merge books and these two really do deserve their time to shine.
Hope might be a twin but her story is her own and its darker than most of her family know, and if you've read the Merge series you'll know how close these guys are. Hope puts on a front of the happy go lucky party girl but inside she's broken, untrusting and scare of human contact. There has only ever been one guy that hasn made her skin crawl but he is untouchable.
Chase has spent the majority of his life in love with Hope but he's never been allowed to a to on his desire thanks to his best friend and her cousin Ash. But times have changed and now Chase has made up his mind that nothing will stop him from claiming his girl.
I absolutely adore these two Hope is broken and frightened but the safety she feels with Chase grounds her making the impossible possible. The fire he lights within her starts to rebuild her, his patience and understanding make him irresistible.
Their journey isn't easy and faces challenges on all fronts but if anything is worth fighting for its love.
Ms. Kent you sneaky author with this surprise drop. I ate this book up just like I have your others.
If you have read her other book in this series then you would have been introduced to Holly and Chase. I recommend you read them but this can be read as a standalone.
These two had a haunted past with baggages of trauma. I will 100% admit I cried reading this. My heart split open for both Chase and Holly only to be put back together. These two had amazing support systems with side characters that I had already fallen in love with from previous books. As a mom, I wanted to hug them telling them it would be okay. Also as a mom, I smiled at their strength. Even with the high emotions that I had reading this book I did laugh. One particular reference made me bust out laughing at 1 in the morning. Ms. Kent, I will be sad with this series ends but I have loved this journey so far.
Trust me this book will break your heart but will also make your soul smile.
Every woman needs a man like Chase to love them. He is perfection.
Hope and his romance played out in the earlier books and readers were dying to see what transpired between them. And boy was it steamy.
But what will grab you is not the romance. Hope’s backstory is traumatic and heartbreaking. She’s afraid of touch, specifically by men. Her family has been her strongest champions in her road to “recovery”. Chase has been her crush but she feels she’s broken.
Well as expected Chase is that man who makes her whole again with his patience and understanding. You can see why readers love him.
Beautifully written and I think they may be my favorites.
* I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
Kylie Kent does it again!! This book is so freaking awesome! Chase and Hope's story is beautifully written with complex characters and plot twists. It takes you through all the feels on the way to the HEA! I loved reading this story and highly recommend it! Don't miss out!!
OMG I love Kylie’s books. All The Merge books and spins offs are brilliant. I particularly loved Bray so this book was extra fab for me, as Hope’s dad, he is in it quite a lot. Chase and Hope are amazing characters. I just can’t say enough about how I loved this. My only gripe, and it’s with all Kylie’s books, is that I wish they were all longer….I can’t get enough!!!!
I love Kylie Kent's book but something has been missing for me in these second generation stories. They just aren't as great as her previous books and I'm trying to figure out what is missing. It was good but it didn't capture me the way her other ones have.
I will start by saying that this book did a much better job of not lingering on the moments that we already saw in the previous 2 books. If you are reading it as a standalone it is done in a way that you won't feel like you are missing information but for those following the series they didn't have to reread the same events just from a different perspective them which was my biggest complaint for An Entangled Christmas .
I think part of my issue with this one, is that it was meant to be more tender and about Holly's healing (which I appreciated) but because that was the focus there wasn't much drama. There were a lot of things that were mentioned that I thought were going to play into bigger plotlines but they never did. Nothing really dramatic happens till close to the end and even that was over rather quickly.
I appreciated Chase's patience with Holly and he was a great support system for her which I love. He is a great match for Holly and exactly what she needed. I like them together but I think they are my least favourite couple so far in the Kent universe
Definitely not what I was expecting having read the other Merge books. Kylie has a way of making you think one thing about a character and completely changing your viewpoint once you get inside their head and see things from their POV. I love Chase. I love his background and how he rose to his position in life. How he had to fight to get to where he was. And once again, I love seeing Bray from Fused with Him in his role as a father to his twin girls. Please note the trigger warnings in this book, but I love how the author addresses different uncomfortable issues in each book and how the characters support each other through these issues. Can’t wait for the next installment.
Book 6 in the merge series and it didn’t disappoint. Every book has been read more then once and this will be read again. Cannot recommend highly enough. There’s excitement , danger, romance and hot scenes
I loved that Chase was so protective and understanding of Holly. I admired Holly's strength in overcoming her fears. The epilogue had me in tears (happy tears).
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Kylie’s novels!!! It’s so hard to choose a favorite but this one is up there!!! Hope and chase are so relatable and their love withstands everything life throws at them. Definitely recommend Kylie’s books to anyone who will read them!!!
Every book from the merged series and McKinley duet Iv have said this is my favourite, but chase is my all time favourite. Would recommend this series to everyone
I don't know if this was therapy or If I now need therapy 🙃
Let's start with something that always means a lot about how much I appreciate a book : how long I need to read it... only 2 days! Good score.
Now, why does Chase fucking use fucking swear words all the fucking time?? It physically hurts my throat while reading (please someone understand this). At first, I thought it was an inside joke I didn't get or that he would grow out of that, but...he didn't and no one seemed to be bothered by his way of using this word for literary no reason all the time. I get it's for highlighting his personality, but there is way more efficient way to do it from my point of view. I was relieved every time it switched to Hope's POV. I still really enjoyed the book, but it was so much that I sometimes couldn't focus on the story.
Hope has been through something that no one ever wants to have to deal with. But the fact that she has the support of her family is be the one thing that’s helped her pull through her fears. But unfortunately that trauma left her with triggers and fears of being touched. But she never expected to feel completely safe with a male that isn’t an immediate family member.
When we first met Chase in the previous books, we didn’t get a true feel on him as a person. I loved the way that he cares for Hope and helps her work through her fears. The way he instantly knows what she needs and immediately drops what he is doing when she needs him when was super sweet.
Together they make an incredible team and support system for each other. Even though life does throw some hardballs their way, they still came out stronger in the end. Great read as always by Kylie! Can’t wait to see where this world takes us next.
What I wouldn't give to be chased by Chase Mathers. Chased By Him is the third in the second generation and book 6 in The Merge series.
Like all of Kylie's fantastic work, there is no slow roll where they fall in love, no these good kind of bad guys tend to go all in head first, fast and hard.
Chased By Him has a best friend's sister/brother's best friend vibe without it actually being that. You see Chase is Ash Williamson's best friend and they are more like brothers and Hope Williamson is Ash's cousin. These families are all so close though they are much more like brothers and sisters than cousins.
Ash has told Chase that his cousins are off limits but Chase has wanted Hope for a very long time and there is no denying it anymore.
Hope seems like the happy bubbly party girl but it's just an act, she went through something and has never quite been the same even though she puts on a show. It doesn't matter though because Chase can see through her shield and he's the first man to not make her want to run.
So these two are going to have to navigate Hope's issues, her family, and even some of Chase's baggage. Like always though it is so worth it in the end. . . . At 16 Hope lost a huge part of herself thanks to someone she thought she could be safe with. Now all these years later no matter how hard she tries it still haunts her. She wants to be better, be normal but she has no idea how to achieve that. She's always flirted with Chase knowing he is safe because he's Ash's best friend and Ash has his rules that Chase stay away. But the moment he asks her to dance and she doesn't freeze up she can't help but look at him the way she's always wanted.
Chase has wanted Hope for a long time, he watched her grow up while being Ash's best friend and then watched her fade away when she was 16. He's tired of playing by the rules, his tired of other women who barely manage to satisfy his urges. He's going after Hope and he's going to claim her once and for all and everybody had just better get on board with that. “If you stay, Hope, be prepared to never leave. Because you’re mine. I don’t care what anyone says. If you choose to stay right now, I’m choosing to fucking keep you.”
As Chase slowly breaks down Hope's walls, she finds he's the only one who can make her feel safe, apart from her father Bray, no matter the situation. Chase is risking his friendship and a trip to meet Josh's pigs but Hope is worth every hurdle he'll have to jump over and more. '" I know she’s constantly scared but tries to hide it. I know she doesn’t like to be touched and avoids any form of physical contact from men. I also know her favourite movie is Beauty and the Beast. Her favourite song is ‘Fight Song’ by Rachel Platten. I know that her favourite drink is a virgin cosmo, and she loves anything that’s smothered in chocolate. What I know more than anything, though, is that there isn’t a damn thing I wouldn’t do for her."
There is something about Ms. Kent's writing and books that will have you hooked right from the first chapter. Chased By Him is just one of those books. This book gives us suspense, heartache, steamy scenes, drama and love that is so strong that nobody could ever stop it from happening. Ms. Kent tells us the story of Hope and Chase, two people who have grown up together and cared about one another but would never act upon it because of how they knew one another. Chase is her cousin, Ash's, best friend and Ash has one rule, not to touch his family or Hope and her twin Lil. For Hope, it is her past that keeps her away and how at sixteen her life changed to the point that she will never be the same girl she was. They both have a past that carries a lot of pain and baggage but will their love help them heal?
Hope has been struggling to have a relationship for the last eight years since she was attacked by her boyfriend and her cousins killed him right in front of her. Trying to live and find love has been impossible for her as she cannot handle any man touching her, however, she wonders if the man that she has crushed on since she was young would have the same effect on her. Could she handle his touch? What she doesn't realize is that she is not a weak and broken woman but is strong and not broken just dented a bit which can be fixed. When Chase steps in and shows her that she is not who she thinks she is, Hope's outlook changes. Yes, Chase is the typical alpha male but he is also caring, dedicated to family, even the ones not by blood, and shows Hope that he is patient and understanding. Chase had me swooning over him and the way that he took care of Hope and showed her that she was worth the wait and nothing was going to stop him from showing her how much she was loved.
The chemistry they had was strong and perfect but the road to it was not an easy one. There were roadblocks that Hope overcame with the help of Chase and his love for her. Of course, Chase had his own roadblocks, namely her cousin and his best friend Ash. The interactions between Chase and Ash after finding out about Hope and Chase had me laughing during a few scenes.
Although Chased By Him is book six in The Merge series and can be read as a standalone, I do suggest reading the previous books to get a better insight as to how all the characters are related. This is the first book in the series that I have read and although I thoroughly loved it, I am now going to go and read the previous one as there are scenes that I thought I had missed something to realize it relates to a previous book. I highly recommend adding this book as well as the rest of the series to your TBR list.
I don't know what it is, but these books are getting flatter and flatter for me. There is no depth, really, since all of these books are happening at the same time, so we have so much overlap. Then, the way Chase was described as wanting her for year, but then basically ignoring her for so long just doesn't really convince me that he was really sincere.
I get that they liked each other, but if he was so obsessed with her, why was he such a manwhore before they finally got together? He supposedly wanted her from when they first met. Yes, she had her incident, but after that he just left her alone for 8 freaking years and became a manwhore. Then all of a sudden, she is the only one he wants? I really have trouble believing that. I do trust that now that he has her he will never cheat, but the fact that he was all over other women when he supposedly was obsessed just doesn't ring true.
These books don't really give any background info at this point. You almost have to read all of them in order to know what is going on. That's why I decided to start over with all of them to catch up on later ones that I didn't get to. The issue is that I'm quickly getting to a point where I don't care anymore. There isn't anything new anymore, we are rehashing all the same stuff over and over (especially with this 2nd generation).
I think part of the issue I am having with these books is that most (not all) just describe how they have known and wanted each other for so long, but we don't get to experience that building relationship or anything. It is already there, and we then just get to sit and watch as they finally take that final step to each other, and then we move on to the next book to do it again.
I am going to keep going, but it is getting harder and harder to do so. My attention is fading, and that is even with several books being read in between each of these.
Hope is amazing she has gone through it childhood trauma and dealing with it. She puts on this massive front for everyone as a party girl but inside she's suffering. Chase immediately realises this and is so damn kind and patient with her. He is perfect in this way. He might be a tough accountant on the exterior but he is a (dirty) marshmallow inside!!!! Plus he cooks, in shorts! And can scale a house - this scene made me laugh so much. It was a twisted Romeo and Juliet scene where Chase actually ends up meeting the end of Bray’s gun rather than Hope!
Chase also has a past he’s dealing with - his mother is a total cow and puts so much guilt into him for something that wasn’t really his fault. I love how Hope defends him in this and how they work together to deal with all their issues.
I loved seeing the events of previous books through their eyes - for example the start of Bree and Ash’s relationship.
A lot of this is about self healing and discovery. Hope is already pretty damn strong but she shows she is cast iron in this book.
I loved the journey we take with them. The trauma rep in this is very well done. I adore how Kylie Kent has shown this perfectly and how one event can have a massive impact on a persons life and relationships. We also see how Bray has become the most perfect dad in supporting his daughter through it.
This was a bit more emotional than the first two books in this series. Hope’s struggles and the reasons behind them are finally revealed, as is the circumstances of Chase’s childhood. It was also much more of a slow burn, not that it was slow by any means, but Chase and Hope had some things to work through before becoming intimate.
Once again, this book happened on the same timeline as the first two books, so we got even more prospectives of some of the major incidents. I liked that it not only gave the reader another prospective, but it also changed the way I thought about what was happening at the time. I liked the build up with Chase and Hope and the way they saw each other so clearly. I loved Bray’s acceptance of Chase, with the usual threat thrown in at the end. I loved Bray’s relationship with Hope, made stronger by a situation that could have torn the family apart.
This book was all about healing and finally finding your person. There was a lot less suspense and the major conflicts were hurdles that Chase and Hope had to leap together. Chase and Hope’s relationship wasn’t easy, but they were perfect for each other.

Chased by Him is book 3 of the Merge Series Second Generation. This book follows Chase and Hope's story. Chase was introduced in book 1 of the series (Ignited by Him). He is Ash Williamson's best friend. Hope is the twin sister of Lily. She is also Ash's cousin.
Chase has always been attracted to Hope but would not do anything about it out of respect for Ash and his family. He was basically "adopted" by the Williamson family.
Hope's past was traumatizing and am glad the her cousins (specifically the Valentinos) are overprotective of her.
I love how Chase was very patient and have a tendency to be overprotective of Hope. I also love how he own up to his feelings and faced Ash head on.
One of my favorite part in the book is Hope's relationship with her dad Bray. As overprotective Bray is of his twins, he also respect their decisions in life.
Without trying to spoil the plot, I enjoyed Hope and Chase's story. Both the character developments made me fall in love with them more.
Chased By Him By Kylie Kent: (The Merge Series 2nd Generation Book 3)
Damn what an opening to Hope.... that fear and pain... at least her cousins were there. Damn Chase is Ash's best friend and Ash is Hope's cousin. I love how Hope's father Bray helped her through her struggles. Ohh she let Chase touch her and dance with her. I love that he stayed with Hope and her twin after what happened at the club. Holy shit Hope kissed him and he listened to her on request to not touch! Oh damn Chase stopped Hope's date! Man the way Chase is fighting with Hope to help her feel safe is something every girl needs. Ahh she called Chase her boyfriend in front of her mom!!! Damn Hope standing up to Chase's mom! And standing up for their relationship is perfect! Chase handled the cousin situation damn well considering! Holy shit he had a ring for three years! Just for her!! How sweet!!! Holy shit their wedding!?! Oh my gosh... The three year time jump! What a freaking perfect ending!!!
💔 Every woman deserves a man like Chase—he’s pure perfection.
Holly and Chase’s story is everything fans of the series have been waiting for! While you can enjoy this book as a standalone, I recommend diving into the earlier books for the full experience.
Both characters carry haunted pasts and heavy trauma, and their journey will break your heart before putting it back together. 💕 As a mom, I wanted to hug them and tell them it would all be okay—and I smiled at their strength and resilience.
Despite the high emotions, there were moments of pure joy (one late-night laugh had me cracking up at 1 a.m.!). Kylie Kent has truly outdone herself. The romance is steamy, but it’s Holly’s heartbreaking backstory and Chase’s patient, healing love that steal the show.

Review: Oh my feels with these two ❤️ they were just meant for each other. The fact that he’s loved her for a while was EVERYTHING. He was so gentle and thoughtful with her he went at her pace with everything. The man had a ring for her 3 years ago he wasn’t even dating her but the fact that he knew she was the only one for him SWOON! I need a man like that 😊 I really felt for Hope everything she went through and Chase being her safe haven she felt safe and so comfortable around him. Their story started at the perfect time. Loved jealous chase when he found out she was going on a date and turned up 🤣 Hope’s relationships with her dad I bloody adored that he was more of a friend to her which she needed. Loved the whole family they were adorable.

Chase and Hope were angsty and sizzling at the same time. Chase was so patient with her and understanding. I loved how he was ready to fight against her family for her if needed. I do wish we got to see a bit more of his past and the fall out of him killing his mothers boyfriend. I was not expecting Hope to have the traumatic past that she had. Based on the past books I thought she might have been kidnapped or something, but she wasn't. I do wish that she had a moment with Theo about what he did to protect/avenge her but how he ended up traumatizing her. The banter between the family is fabulous as expected. I adored the fact that Bray was a pillar of support for Hope when she was going through such a difficult time. The men of this series in papa bear mode is everything!
3.5 Stars Chase and Hope's story was an emotional rollercoaster. You will probably need Kleenex for some parts. Through their journey we dive deep into both of their tragic pasts, which definitely helps us understand them both. As usual, the family dynamics of all of the previous characters from previous stories really help compose and bring together their story. The blurb of Chased by Him already explains what the story is about. Although, The Merge Series Second Generation is not my favorite of all of the series. Their parents books were embedded into my heart when, I read them. This series is okay, but not as gripping of the other series.
