This was a good read about the vagus nerve. I have read a few on this subject, and this book added a bit to my knowledge, for instance, I now know about massage and stretching techniques that can help improve the vagal tone which I didn't know before. There are scores of other techniques in this book, and it also broaches on alternative subjects, such as yoga and how it can improve the functioning of the vagus nerve. It also provides a fairly technical explanation of the functioning of the vagus nerve, which was also valuable to learn. Overall, I'd recommend this book.
I am very impressed with this book. It contains research-based data as well as scientific diagrams to assist understanding. The author is heartfelt and comprehensive in the information shared. Additionally, I appreciated the portion within each detailed exercise section which indicated if there were risks or contraindications for anyone (very thorough). Finally - there is an FAQ section at the end. Essentially the reader should know the answers to all the questions once the FAQ are reached - but it serves as a synopsis in case there may have been misunderstanding along the way.
I have done a lot of work healing my own trauma and have studied a lot about the vagus nerve. This book provided me with so many more insights and practical tools to use. The Author makes the science around the polyvagal theory much easier to understand!
The first third of the book goes into the medical function of the vagus nerve… which is pretty extensive. It also includes descriptions of some of the disorders that can occur when the vagus nerve isn’t operating correctly.
The other sections of the book focus on ways to stimulate the vagus nerve, including breathing exercises, cold therapy, humming & singing - to name a few. Some very interesting information provided.
Each of these sections includes a summary of advantages and disadvantages at the end… even dangers of laughing and yoga… while some of the concerns appear to be over the top, you can’t say the author didn’t try to provide balanced advice and warnings!
Excellent book on the Vagus Nerve. It highlights in detail the importance of the Vagus nerve on our entire body, including mind and emotions. It lays it out in a very detailed, scientific way at the beginning.
If you don't like nerding out on science (I do!), you can easily skip to the exercises. But I really appreciated the scientific explanations.
Then the writer highlights numerous ideas on how to exercise and improve Vagus functioning with easy to read sections and specific exercises for idea. I'm typing up a short synopsis for myself and my future mental health clients.
A good read for anyone looking to improve their physical and mental health with easy steps.
My mother gave this to me after I was diagnosed with nerve damage and chronic regional pain syndrome after my lapiplasty bunion surgery. This book cannot cure me, but it has interesting information. I learned a tremendous about the Vagus nerve. Unfortunately, most everything the author covers also should be run my and approved by a doctor. Safety first. Recommended For: Those who want to learn more about the Vagus nerve.

Many people overlook this important anatomical structure but shouldn’t because it plays a vital role in our protective mechanism. This book includes measures one may take to develop and achieve vagus nerve health. Everyone should be aware of this information.
This was a nice easy read and I enjoyed learning more about the vagus nerve. A lot of great information and suggestions. I have autoimmune issues and I’m looking for alternatives to help inflammation.

I appreciated the author's overview of the vagus nerve and its interconnectivity to different systems throughout the body. It was difficult to avoid self-diagnosing random ailments as the book progressed through symptoms LOL! This is a great overview and the recommendations to address different vagus nerve issues was insightful.
