I signed a contract to be married to my boss for 365 days and it stated there'd be no sex... but then I woke up in Vegas wearing a wedding ring and my boss' shirt...best part? I can't remember what happened.
After agreeing to be my boss' wife, it's been one drama after another. The terms were very specific about keeping things strictly professional, but as the months roll by, that is fast becoming an impossibility.
The thing is, I can't figure this guy out. He's warm and passionate one minute, then quick as a flash, he's back to being my grumpy boss. When he caught me flirting with a guy at a party, I thought he was going to beat the other guy up.
As we play a game of push and pull, I can't help but ask myself two questions:
How long are we going to ignore the ramping-up tension between us and keep all the terms in the contract? and If one or both of us break the rules... what happens when the year is up?
Married to my Boss is an enemies-to-lovers, marriage-of-convenience romantic comedy with outrageous sizzling kisses and heart-pounding surprises. Prepare for a whirlwind of emotions as you laugh, gasp and swoon all on one page and spend hours tearing through the book until its deliciously delightful end.

So poorly written it isn’t funny! The characters are awkward and inconsistent, the timeline is ridiculous, there is NO SPICE its fade to black ONE time so how it can be called steamy is ridiculous! The storyline comes across immature and I honestly found the MMC pathetic and poorly developed.
This was not good and I cannot believe I read it all. If there is one thing to take out of this review it’s a warning that this romance contains no spice. What’s more, the timeline doesn’t add up, by halftime you feel like the author or editor gave up and writing becomes really annoying and simply not good and the TikTok videos didn’t present the situations as they were in the book. Also, we’re left with a lot of questions unanswered which makes this reading journey really frustrating. In the end author asks for nice reviews but I’m sorry to say I can’t do that as I am quite disappointed.
“I daresay that if you find a woman to marry, there will be ups and downs. There will be disagreements, apologies, forgiveness. A true love takes sacrifice. Even if the sacrifice is sometimes one’s own happiness.”

Oh this book is everything. At first from the blurb I was getting “The Proposal” sort of vibes and I thought it would be the same kind of jist, but hell no it is not. Sebastian is the most unlikable likeable character. I wanted to slap, hug and kiss the guy. Kind of Christian Grey vibes yano?
I loved this book. It was funny, I especially love drunk Peyton! It was emotional, I ugly cried badly. It was full of romance too! It’s closed-door, which I think I prefer as a reader, as sometimes the smut scenes can be a tad over the top, and I think it also helps see the real romance brewing. Laura Burton did an excellent job with this book and I recommend highly to any romance lover out there!
I stormed through this book quicker than I could change my kids bums. I got caught up on the drama filled marriage, jealousy bouts and feel-good moments from the first chapter! While this is a series, it can easily be read as a standalone for readers just wanting to dip their toes in.
With a very straightforward trope and character archetypes that have been achieved over and over successfully, somehow Burton has been able to stuff that up and make me visibly say "ew" anytime the main character did anything 'romantic' and since this was a romance book, that didn't go down well.
Let me first just show you some of the dialogue to get you ready for this review.
╰┈➤ "Don't forget who your alpha is, Peyton," he whispers in my ear.
╰┈➤ "Sebastian assesrting his dominance over me left an impression."
╰┈➤"My boss is establishing his alpha dominance and I am here for it"
Icky icky icky. Peyton might have been 'here for it' but I was halfway out the door when he started pulling that 'alpha' shit. yuck!!!
Meet Peyton. She has no defining qualities. She's just apparently so hot but they way she was written was so awkward. She had no family, no friends and literally nothing in her life other than a parrot.
Meet Sebastian. He is meant to be grumpy and moody character but out of absolutely nowhere, he will break it and go "she makes my insides feel funny 👉🏻👈🏻" like...?? He was so inconsistent and they were awkward and their whole relationship was awkward. Whichhhhh leads onto the next point, their "connection."
(You might wonder why there is so little on this issue about characters but it's just the fact there were NO developed characters. There was NOTHING.)
Oh my goodness. It came out of nowhere at the most random times. He would apparently feel nothing for her, but at the VERY BEGINNING he would go "I never noticed how she always knew exactly everything about me." Well how convinenient. And I never really knew *when* Peyton apparently fell in love. Just one moment she was confused and the next she loved him?? For god knows what, he never did anything for her really. I don't even know when he decided her liked her too because he never showed it. He just said "Wow she's gorgeous. Wow she's perfect." WHY is she perfect other than the fact she knows just how you like her coffee? The only reason she knew that was because she was your personal assistant for 11 years GOD.
And seriously? 11 years and nothing was there, then suddenly there was something....??
The only time my jaw-dropped at this atrocity of 'characters' was when there was a random arse time skip. These characters just jump through months by saying "yeah anyways 🤪, it's been a month since this," NOT EVEN KIDDING I NEARLY QUOTED THAT VERBATIM
(here are some actual quotes)
╰┈➤ she goes "its been a month since" girl WHAT (this happened TWICE)
╰┈➤ "Anyways its been four months since that night"
╰┈➤ "It's been three months since..."
The fact there was a 12 month long endeavour going on for this book and NINE out of the twelve (3/4!) was literally skipped on a time skip. Nahh. It felt so rushed.
very mild spoilers, but you wouldn't want to read this trainwreck of a book anyway
So randomly in the middle of the story, Peyton suffers from a panic attack and brings up anxiety issues that were never mentioned before. This might have been fine (a new thing that was hidden but now expanded on) but after Sebastian comforts her, it was never brought up again making it VERY obvious this was just popped in there for the sake of the plot. Like, bffr
with half-arsed characters, a not at all developed plot and too much time skipped for anything to amount to anything, this book was a 2 stars for me
the only positive thing i have to give this book was that it was very quick to read and easy. if only her easy to read writing would be used writing an actual good book
The pacing for this story was off…I guess due to its length which made it weird to read but other than that, a pretty decent story. The low rating comes as a result of the fact that the author spent so much time building up tension between these characters only for there to be a fade to black scene. What is this, YA? I did not enjoy that.
I’m sorry to say this was yet another disappointing TikTok recommendation. I’m all for supporting new authors, but they need to actually write a story worth the money I spent on my purchase.
The concept of this story was not difficult to understand as the title says it all, and I was after a happy, simple, laugh out loud book to end my work day. What I received however, was pure disappointment.
The basic concept is a grumpy, workaholic boss chooses to marry his PA as a marriage of convenience for one year. Then low and behold, they fall in love and live happily ever after. However, the story itself was so skeletal in its writing that I’m surprised it was even published.
The writing seems rushed, so much so that there is barely any body to the story at all. I read this in just under two hours, and it came across more like as a concept for a story, rather than the story itself. There is also NO SPICE.
The characters are flimsy and just ghosts of ideas that I felt very little connection to, and the tension between them gets no higher than a barely described kiss. There are also no other characters really described on the scenes besides the two main characters which makes the story very thin and unbelievable.
All in all, a disappointing read that could have come to life if more effort had been put into the characters’ development, and their growing relationship, but sadly this did not materialise.
This was a fun quick read. Marriage of convenience with a grumpy boss makes for an interesting story for Peyton and Sebastian. I honestly enjoyed both characters, I just wished there was more conflict throughout instead of a bit at the start, happy couple, conflict at the end and then HEA. I love HEA, but I want a bit more for a couple to grow together. I guess I just wanted more to the story. With that said there were still pieces to the story I enjoyed, moments with the two of them together that were really sweet and showed growth.
This isn't a super clean romance, while there isn't on page sex there is a lot of sexual tension. My personal preference is a sweet, clean romance.
*I received a complimentary copy from the publishers, publicists, and/or authors. A review was not required, and all opinions are my own.
I somewhat liked this book, it has all my favourite tropes in it, the only downside is that it's very fast passed and the slow burn is an annoying slow burn and not a good one
1.5 - Zero believable chemistry - Extremely mean hero (who’s a terrible boss) - Too stupid to function heroine - Plot so dumb it felt like an insult to my intelligence - Felt like the author gave up by the end
Married to My Boss is a wonderful book. I gave it four stars because it grabbed my attention and was well-written. I consider it well written because the author, Laura Burton, switched perspectives from the boss to the PA. This proved useful because the way each character feels was described differently by the other characters. It was enjoyable to see how Sebastian for example thought Peyton felt versus how she actually did feel and vice versa. This gave the book dimension because it was easier to picture what was happening with all of the provided angles.
The only reason I didn’t give this book five stars is because it was sort of predictable. I wasn’t surprised by this however because most romance books are. Despite its predictability, I liked the imagery and word choice. My favorite thing about this book is how the days and weeks in this book played out the same way, but Burton still managed to give each day a new feel with different words. I would recommend Married to My Boss to readers who enjoy romance novels and drama.
Okay. Picture this. You're thirty something, no family, no friends, no life, your boss who happens to be from England(forty something years old), has no friends he keeps in regular contact with apparently, has no family alive that he likes, calls you back to the office, convinces you to marry him for a sum of money and says it's for a visa.
Great. This could go well. Ya'll rush to Vegas where you get sloshed and want to be all affectionate with a man whose name you don't even know, marry him, and have to put on a front at work.
This could have been done so well and I want to scream into a pillow because it would have been a great book. First, who at the age of thirty, has no friends. Literally none who would question her about any of this. I mean, it explains her desperation for love and affection and family but come on.
And Sebastian, grumpy boss who you suddenly want affection from, says things like I'm the alpha in my house type of vibe and NEVER BACKS IT UP. It makes it sound borderline psychopath and the very ab_$ive. He isn't like a dom or anything, he just wants to be a royal a-hole about his wife is his and only his.
The grovel scenes weren't even good. And to top it all of...
SMALL SPOILER
why did he give his wife(whose name this whole review wasn't important enough to remember) a fake spider, when he references in his thoughts his dad did it for his mom and he HATES his dad for cheating on his mom? Come. On.
Everything is happening so fast. She literally signs the marriage agreement on page 8.
“Funny” parrot with human mannerisms
Miss piggy underwear
The characters are hardly described physically.
“ don’t forget who your alpha is” gag
MMC is unbearably hot and cold. Flirting and winking at her one second and being cold with her for an entire month.
She was his assistant for 10 years and didn’t even know his name
She was his assistant for 10 years, and he never found her attractive until now
Lots of telling, not showing.
She’s upset with him for ignoring her for four months, she has an anxiety attack, he asked her on a date, and she jumped at the chance. She didn’t get an apology or an explanation. Spineless
Fade to Black. Not every book needs spice, but I was told this had in it. It was on unpleasantly surprised when I didn’t.
I really wanted to like this book but I simply couldn't. The H was such an unlikeable character and I really wanted to punch him through the whole book.
'l expected she'd be grateful that I arranged for a team to pack up her apartment and move her in while we were away. Who would want to do all that themselves? Instead, she's irritated with me. ' oh yes, thank you Sebastian for invading her privacy and not respecting her boundaries.
"Now he knows who the alpha male is." alright mate (he was talking about her parrot) oh and my favourite part: 'Clearly, she didn't expect to receive an apology.' and "I'm trying to apologize here. Can't you just be grateful?" - he didn't apologize. And, honestly, if she tells you she has arachnophobia, why the hell would you gift her a replica wolf spider?

Oh where do I begin? The characters are not well developed and the plot-awful. Here is a brief summary. A man needs a wife so that he can inherit his grandfather’s fortune. He comes up with a plan to pay his personal assistant, whom has worked for him for 10 years, a $1,000,000.00 to marry him for a year. She hates him doesn’t even know his first name. He barely knows her name (after working together for 10 years). Then they fall madly in love. There, sorry for the spoiler but that’s the plot. It was a complete waste of time.

Characters were not realistic and too not consistent I thought. I couldn't figure out of they liked each other. They said they did and then acted completely opposite, especially when told though the other character's voice.
I'm extremely disappointed with this book. I was looking forward to a read that could break my awful reading slump. Unfortunately, this book failed to deliver.
The cover was interesting, and the title was straightforward. I thought, "Okay, this is going to be enjoyable." But what I got was a poorly edited book with the usual clichés. The author seemed to give up towards the end, and the last part was written lazily.
The groveling scene at the end was particularly atrocious. The heroine is almost five months pregnant and hasn't told the hero about the baby. He kneels on the pavement, cries, and asks her to take him back. That's it. She immediately forgives him. It felt like a cheesy Bollywood movie scene and it wasn't even executed well.
The heroine and hero's relationship is built on a fake marriage for visa purposes. She's attracted to him and makes him jealous by flirting with another guy. He acts like a possessive, macho man, and they have a physical relationship. But the plot lines are skipped, and we jump four months ahead without any significant events or gradual transitions. It's lazy editing and writing.
I'm upset about the state of modern romance books. This kind of writing decreases the credibility of the romance genre. These books are written solely for the purpose of selling, without imparting wisdom, emotional revelation, or any meaningful message.
The main conflict is resolved due to a simple miscommunication that could have been discussed multiple times during the four months. I think this book doesn't deserve any stars. I'm extremely disappointed, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
The last part of the book is particularly infuriating( yeah its worth mentioning twice). The heroine stumbles, and the hero holds her. That's his entire groveling scene. She takes him back, and the book ends with her pregnant with their second child.
The first child, a daughter, has the hero "wrapped around her finger". I'm fed up with these clichéd lines that do nothing for the reader( as if I need more reasons). It's lazy writing, and I'm extremely disappointed.
Alpha male/Caveman marries seemingly prim proper assistant
I was excited about this book and ready to read it as soon as it came out. I’ve always enjoyed this author’s books. Plus I love marriage of convenience plots. This book, in my opinion, was much more Alpha Male than a simple Grumpy Boss. It’s been a long time since I read an Alpha Male story and it’s decidedly not my favorite.
Sebastian swung back and forth from caveman “I’m the boss” (even at home) to sexual innuendo alpha style. There were several actual angry/emotional pick her up in his arms and storm out of the scene moments, totally cliche feeling.
Peyton was an adopted foster child that even as an adult had scars from being abandoned. This colored her interactions with Sebastian. Prior to marriage she was the prim proper assistant. After marriage she became a determined seductress suddenly while still going thru periods of keep him away from me.
The story was just okay to me. I won’t give away any spoilers but I didn’t like how they went from all happy in their marriage one moment to the final major conflict that shatters the relationship. Of course it ends with a HEA but I didn’t care for the reasons, omissions, and reaction to the conflict. Also there was just too much strong sexual innuendo and Alpha male dominance for how I like my clean romances. I do realize the couple ARE married but my personal preference is a lighter banter not the smoldering ‘I just want to eat you up’ interactions.
Rating: PG-13, no profanity, no on page sex, closed door fade to black scenes between a husband and a wife, lots of sexual tension, innuendo. If you are looking for a squeaky clean romance this isn’t it.
Peyton has been Sebastian’s personal assistant for the past 10 years, and she thinks she knows him pretty well - until he proposes marriage to her for the sake of a visa. With $1 million on the table Peyton feels she has to agree, and once they’re married, it’s not long before the line between real and fake starts to blur. But Sebastian hasn’t been entirely honest with Peyton - he has another motive for marriage, and once he realises his feelings have turned genuine, it becomes more and more critical Peyton doesn’t find out about the deception.
This was cute and had engaging writing. The romance was quite fun - there were a lot of elements to the plot that I quite liked, there was a lot of tropey fun to be had here with the content. I thought Peyton and Sebastian had decent chemistry and some sweet scenes together.
However, I found some of it a bit melodramatic and some scenes, for me, veered into the realm of the silly, which was a bit disappointing. I also found the pacing off. Some of the book moved really fast, other parts a bit slow, and as a whole it just didn’t feel very cohesive to me. It never really felt like it got to a middle and a lot of the development - both with character and their relationship - happened off-page, which was a shame.
Overall though this was a cute, quick read and I had fun reading it.
Content Notes: Boss/employee, personal assistant, fake relationship, marriage of convenience, grumpy MC, Vegas wedding, bargains/deals/wagers.
This is a funny and entertaining book with just a bit of angst and steam. Peyton has worked for her boss, Mr Rockwood, for ten years and has become irreplaceable to him in the office. He has never asked personal questions, dislikes being touched and is only concerned with his business. Which is why she is shocked to have him suddenly ask her to be his wife for a year after which a divorce would take place. He tells her that the marriage is necessary for his immigration status and when she hesitates the fee to go along with his plan rises to a million dollars. Peyton can’t say no to that offer, but she has no idea that he has another, much more important reason to marry her. They are going to need to get to know more personal information about each other and show some display of affection in order to convince anyone that their marriage is real. Peyton just learns her boss’ first name is Sebastian on their way to Vegas for a quickie wedding! Neither expected to begin to really like the other, for feelings to become involved, even if they torture themselves trying to deny it. Their story induced a lot of laughter, a few groans and a big beaming smile at the end.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
While I did think this book was a tad predictable and a little cheesy in the end, I still loved it. I thought it was a sweet story and a fun read. It moved quickly and entertained me. There were a few items that were so weird, like not knowing her boss’s first name? Peyton worked for Mr. Rockwood for 10 years before knowing his first name. That’s so strange in the literary business when certainly his name would be on some official communications, his signature, listed on some form or another, or something. That’s what was most unbelievable. Sebastian Rockwood runs a tight literary business and is never personable with his staff. It seems extremely strange when Peyton is called back to the office one evening and asked to become his wife in order to secure citizenship. She must love in with him, but no intimacy is allowed and they are only to show affection in certain public scenarios. Every time Peyton starts to imagine that they are growing closer or there might be a spark of something beyond their business agreement, Sebastian puts her in his place and immediately puts up a wall between them. Their contract is for a year, but will they even be able to stand the situation for that long?
personally for me it was a cute romance novel but I feel like the timing was a little off. Other than that it was good,
It was a good book, nothing bad at all. I did like Sebastian a lot and the things he said for instance “In truth, I want to fall to my knees and apologize right now; grovel and beg for her forgiveness. Tell her that I’m not just her boss, I’m her husband. Her servant. I’ll do anything to keep her safe, to make her laugh. Yes, she is mine. But the raw fact is that she is the true captor in this situation. She has my heart clamped in her hands and I’m completely at her mercy”

I liked this one more than Elle and zanders book. Anyway no hate to the author writing is hard and you have to be very innovative, keep that in mind of you leave mean comments!
