Savage Realms returns with three new tales of adventure. Featuring two new authors, Remy Morgeson and Shepard W. McIlveen. This month's issue also features a brand-new story from well-known author and editor David A. Riley.

Sword in the Tomb by Remy Morgeson

Fex is a thief who thinks more of his skills than he should. His confidence lands him in so much trouble that he finds himself in a constant state of damage control. He will remind you of a certain famous rogue with good reason.

A combination of dumb luck, bravado, and a few poor choices lead him to discover an important key and the only person who knows the whereabouts of a treasure that that key unlocks. This treasure is hidden in a remote place riddled with booby traps. Fex is compelled by a spell threatening his mortality to lead his new master through this treacherous tomb. Both parties are eager to betray the other, but how and when?

The Carpetmaker of Arana by David A. Riley

This tale doesn't feature swords but a creeping type of horror. A carpetmaker with no custom is approached by a stranger with a commission to create a carpet. The need to support his family leads him to eagerly accept this stranger's commission. As time goes by, and the instructions for the construction of the rug become more and more strange the carpetmaker begins to question his choice to accept this custom. As it happens, the authorities are alerted, and the carpetmaker is questioned. His life and safety are jeopardized, and he must make some smart, quick decisions.
I feel like Riley's tale has a timelessness to it. I could totally see it being printed in Weird Tales during Howard's time.

The Jade Tower by Shephard W. McIlveen

With a lust for life and adventure Onyx Tigerheart is a stereo-typical sword & sorcery character. Although don't let that turn you away McIlveen has crafted a fine traditional tale. Courting death in a blighted drought plagued wasteland, an opulent feast and the heady charms of a fortune teller, the desire of a youth to become a blooded man, and the evil that waits and resides in The Jade Tower.

Three fantastic tales. A thief full of bravado. A family man caught up in dangerous sorcery and politics. And a peerless warrior's clash with sorcery. Each story different from the other, all in all creating a great sampling of traditional sword and sorcery.

May 2022 Brings Issue number 12 of one of the coolest ongoing monthly (well...mostly) anthology books for readers who are looking for new and fun Sword and Sorcery/Sword and Planet stories.

While the tales themselves range from Dark Fantasy to good old, run-of-the-mill Barbarian and Damsel adventures...with the ubiquitous Wizard and Sorcerer thrown in for good measure, SRM continues to present an exciting and well-done forum to satisfy almost ALL S&S fantasy fans.

Typically running from 70 to 90 pages, with three stories the average, it's a great late night read that you can sit down and not have to worry about staying up until the wee hours of the morning to finish. Most readers can rip through the stories and enjoy action and fantasy flavored dreams until the reality of the world intrudes once more in the morning.

In this issue, SRM gives us the following:

SWORD IN THE TOMB by Remy Morgeson - A seeker of power, hopes to uncover a potentially powerful artifact at the cost of seemingly meaningless lives, but even the most lowly among those have schemes as well.

THE CARPETMAKER OF ARANA by David A Riley - Desperation can make anyone unknowingly be lead down a dark path, and, as with anything in the darkness, you don't always see the destination until it sees you.

THE JADE TOWER by Shephard W McIlveen - Being a sword-for-hire has its benefits...and its drawbacks. But there are times when the latter disappears in the fortunes of the former...if you're only willing to take a leap.

A dozen issues in, and the journey is worth price...

Yeah,

Well, perhaps the weakest issue yet, sorry to say. 3 stars for being SRM. "Sword in the Tomb" had a cool character and plot but ends unconvincing and incomplete. "The Carpetmaker of Arana" is by far the most interesting and intriguing idea, but it also simply ends, being but a wrong place wrong time story. And "The Jade Tower" was terribly bombastic, only the included tarot reading and part of the author interview justifying inclusion. Sorry y'all, but this one didn't work for me.

This was a particularly good issue, with a higher than usual good to mediocre ratio of stories. They are all enjoyable, of course, but some are better than others.

This book ia the biggest waste of paper I've ever read. I had to stop reading multiple times due to dryheaving due to the dry content and talking out his a*s. I've read better work made by kindergartners. I'm not sure what else I can say about, that hasn't already been said about the taliban. Now, onto who is responsible for this abomination- The author is a vile person who is racist and homophobic. He thinks it's okay to message people on Facebook unhinged rants when the person has never talked to them before, only to block them after so they can't respond
