The game is on. Time is ticking. Somebody is rigging the deck.
Carl and his bottom-scraper minions were a success story from any perspective. Against all odds, they managed to defeat all of Carl's dragon siblings and kill the filthy Soul Carver. Now, all that is left for him to do is take up the comfy place as the rightful ruler of the Scoured Mountain. With that out of the way, Selys the dragon matriarch can retire and go do whatever she feels like.
Small issue: ‘whatever Selys feels like’ turns out to be world domination. Even though Carl isn't native to this world, unleashing fiery wings of doom upon the world seems impolite. There's no such thing as a free lunch, especially in this world. If he wants to be the true ruler of the Scoured Mountain, Carl will have to fight to earn his keep. If he survives, there is still the question of a questionable magical oath to be sworn to Selys.
The situation is spiraling out of control for Carl and his people. A crossroads looms ahead of them: choose guaranteed survival… or pick a fight they're destined to lose.
Wow! What a doozy! So friggintastic! I truly love Onyx such a great Shadow Dragon🐉! So while Onyx is currently doin Selys bidding he's definitely working on plans to protect himself from becoming her vassal and minion. And again training, Training, TRAINING, is the word of the day, they have 3 months to complete Selys orders and also level! And, boy howdy Onyx and his minions, No Onyx and his adopted F.A.M.I.L.Y. don't shy away from the work involved, taking every last minute available to do just that! So yeah Selys a Red Fire Dragon a sight to behold, but unfortunately she's also inherently evil! She needs to be put down! Well will Onyx and his family be enough to do the job? Gods I hope so... But you're gonna hafta grab the book to find out!
Here's a quote that tickled me:
"Who doesn’t value knowledge? That's like... putting mustard on fries. Who would be like that?"
It's come to pass that I really enjoy Ants 🐜. They make awesome Beasts. So even though there's no Ants in this story nor should there be, Dragons, duh! I loved this quote:
“Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise.” - Proverbs 6:6
Slow burn progression LitRPG adventure fantasy with battles, alliances and new magic and abilities. It needed a proofread because it used two types of quotation marks and I noticed 7 times where the wrong one was used. Other than that it didn't effect the story.
How much did I like it: Ideas - World Building: 5 Stars Ideas - Plot: 4 Stars Character Depth: 4 Stars Character Interactions: Extensive Animal Characterisation: Minimal Non-human Body language: Minimal Warnings: Violence. Execution: 4.3 Stars
A game playing builder from earth is reborn as a dragon, trying to survive, but also to use his second chance to make the world a better place. He is offered the kingship of the mountain, but accepting would mean giving up the hope for a fairer society. Refusing means more battles and perhaps the death of his friends and allies.
This series is well written and hard to put dow. I love the detail of the characters and how they are allowed to grow. I also love dragons so this was very fun to get lost in this world. Lots of excitement and nail biting suspenseful parts to keep you hooked. Very enjoyable!
A very enjoyable read as we see Onxy battle his way through all obstacles. Of course, the best bits is how he does it all. I have been pleasantly surprised by just how well this series has worked out and how the family has grown into my affections and can't wait till we see what else happens.
This story of a elder construction manager dying and being reincarnated into a dragon egg where he is attacked as he is hatched was fantastic. He then takes over their tribe, and use them to battle his siblings to be the ruler of the Mountain.
This one was really good! The author has worked out the minor issues I had with the previous two books. It's well paced, the stakes are high, and everything feels well earned. I have no problem recommending this series after this one.
Surprise? Well, not really. I wasn’t sure that Onyx would finish off the big threat so quickly or if it would be a longer slog (more books). There are more books - I guess he needs to consolidate power.
Pros: 4 Major fights, and still only 358 pages long. Cons: Lack of an epilogue. And if there is a 4th book, which I dont expect, it will be a massive amount of city/society building.

This book! I just love everything about this book! Like the previous 2 books, the story's very well-written and developed, funny, clever, and heartfelt. It gave me a warm fuzzy feeling at the end. I seriously want to keep and give each one of them tight hugs, especially the Talpi. Please let this one not be the end! I need more Onyx, Timothy, the Tapli, and the other minions.
The narration is just outstanding! Well done, Steve Campbell!
