About the author

Thomas P. Hébert, Ph.D., is Professor of Gifted and Talented Education in the College of Education at the University of South Carolina. He has more than a decade of K-12 classroom experience working with gifted students and 25 years in higher education training graduate students and educators in gifted education. He has also conducted research for the National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented (NRC/GT).

I read this book for a Master's level class I was taking at the time. The book had some chapters with good information in, BUT some chapters and information from the author seemed to be biased. In talking with classmates, I was not the only one who felt the author overstepped with opinion in some areas.

This book is extremely useful in learning the developmental stages of gifted students and the contributing environmental factors along with the developmental and environmental effects on the social and emotional state of gifted students. The book is packed with information connected to gifted students' experiences related to concepts discussed. It is interesting how the author combines biographic excerpts of successful well-known people to reinforce concepts.

I don't usually read my college text books word for word. This one, however, was wonderful! I did miss a chapter or two, but what I read was great. This book basically provides insight and ideas into working with gifted and talented children. I look forward to implementing much of what I learned in my classroom this next school year!
