This is book 16 in the Lin Coffin paranormal cozy mystery series by USA TODAY Bestselling Author J.A. Whiting.
Lin Coffin has been able to see ghosts since she was a little girl and living on the island of Nantucket provides plenty of opportunities to interact with spirits. It is early November and island life is between the summer and early fall tourist season and holiday time. Lin and Leonard are still doing fall cleanup for their landscape clients, Jeff and his partner are renovating houses, and Viv is getting the bookstore ready for the December Holiday Stroll. Lin hasn’t seen a ghost since the summer so things have been quiet, but that all changes when she comes across something she wasn’t expecting and it ends up pulling them into a November mystery. Will they be able to solve the new ghost story in time for a happy and peaceful Thanksgiving or will it be a time of danger and death?

I don’t know if it was because I came into this series sixteen book in or what, but I just didn’t feel the beginning grabbing me and pulling me into the story despite the murder happened early in the story and Nadia’s ghost showed up. I just felt it was blah and not exciting. Even as Lin was trying to find the murderer there was little content. Nadia’s ghost gave nothing. The interrogations that Lin had were just repetitive and didn’t provide any new information. It made the pace drag because of that. It was just not interesting me until the family map got stolen and the pirate ghost appeared. Then finally there was some excitement and I was interested again. By the end the two crimes connected and made sense. If that part was not in here, I don’t think I would have enjoyed this one.

A Missing Antique Treasure Map and a Murdered Aerialist!
by Barbara Kelley
J. A. Whiting is one of my top 5 favorite authors, and this series is one of my favorite ones. This series focus on Lin Coffin and her cousin Viv Coffin; their husbands Jeff and John, respectively; and Liv's dog Nicky, and Viv's cat Queenie. First of all, I want to say how much I love Nicky and Queenie. You may have heard the old saying, "These guys fight like cats and dogs!" However, it is quite the opposite for Nicky and Queenie; they are the best of friends and play with each other any time they are near each other. It is so precious. If you haven't read any books in this series, begin with book 1 and read them all in order because of the characters, ghost's (past ones from hundreds of years ago and most recently deceased ghosts). In this book, we have two different ghosts: a male pirate who lived in the 1700s and a young murdered female aerialist Nadia who dies near the beginning of the book. Viv and Liv's ancestors from hundreds of years ago left an antique treasure map and a beautiful sterling silver necklace wit a horseshoe on it in a secret basement in Viv's house. Lin and Viv found these items several years ago, along with several other valuable items. They donated everything to the local museum, except for the map and necklace. Lin wears the necklace every day and Viv framed the map and hung it on her living room wall. The day after Nadia after is murdered in an aerial show, Viv's antique map is stolen. The thief thinks the map belonged to La Buse, a famous pirate who lived in the 1700s. It is thought that La Buse buried his treasure somewhere in the Seychelles but the map didn't belong to him. Another pirate named Henry Jacobs, also known as Copper because of his red hair, was the owner of the map. Copper's ghost shows up, as well as Nadia's ghost, both wanting Lin to help solve the two mysteries of Nadia's murder and the stolen map. Lin can see ghosts, but they don't talk to her. Viv has growing powers, but she doesn't want them: yet. However, Viv experiences hearing Nadia's voice, and also has a strong feeling that the man who stole her map is getting ready to leave Nantucket Island. Since both Nadia and Copper's ghosts show up together, does that mean that the two mysteries are connected? I gave this book 5 stars and can hardly wait to read the next book in the series.
Lin, Viv, Jeff and John are at the Winter Festival when one of the performaners fall to their death at the aerial part of the show. Lin sees a ghost, she feels she needs to help find out why she fell. Viv's house is broken into an antique map they found hidden in Viv's home has been stolen. Really good story.
This book had plenty of mystery and intrigue. I like the characters. It kept you guessing who committed the murder till the end. I am looking forward to the next book.
This was a good series and I enjoyed it. Although, I didn't care for the repetition of character descriptions... But I guess that's helpful if you weren't reading them in order.... Which in my opinion is dumb. 😉 I'm hoping that there'll be book #17, so the friends can go on a treasure hunt. 🐚🐬
I just love how it all intertwines between the characters living and ghostly. You think you know which direction on for a curve ball to come along. Rolling straight into book 17
This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
Love seeing Lin and Viv using their inherent talents to solve crimes and enable ghosts to move on. This was a complex journey with more to come…stay tuned.
Love that finally we have a current murder instead of a historical one. It gripped me immediately, and I liked how all the interviews were at first just very confusing, as many people could’ve been the killer. I also liked the part about the theft of the map, it added another layer that I found really enjoyable.
