The easy part of Marco “Giggles” Ricci’s job is to separate himself from those his team rescues. Until a year ago, when an unexpected rescue brings him Ember. With a heavy heart, he barely walked away, expecting her to move on with her life, but when she shows back up, he can’t deny the connection he feels to her.
Ember has set out to make a new life for herself. Rescued from a human trafficking ring, and with the help of her friend Trista she has the chance to give back to those in need. Things aren’t always as simple as they seem. Not when she learns the man who held her captive for six years isn’t dead. This time she needs to see his death for herself.
When Ember stumbles upon information that can help learn King’s identity, nothing will stop her from traveling with the team to exact revenge against her captor. But at what cost?
Protecting Ember is the first book in the Bravo Team Series. Happily ever after, guaranteed.
Elizabella Baker has always dreamed of being a writer. As an avid book lover who has read thousands of books, she finally decided to pursue that dream and become a published author. She published her first book in January 2021.
Elizabella is a mother of two and a fan of all things romantic. She enjoys spending time with her family and making as many memories as she can.
4.5 stars The series features a dedicated group of alpha men who work for a protection security team. Their mission is to protect those in need and eliminate those who pose a threat. Each member is described as sexy, with a hotness factor over 10, and they have a soft side that emerges when they meet the one woman who could change their womanizing ways. I'm completely hooked on this series and the characters with their banter and sarcasm. The mix of action, danger, fun, and laughter has me fully engaged. I've discovered a new author whose books I can't wait to read more of.
I love reading about seals and rescuing trafficked women, hostages, and all the action and adventure that comes with it. Ember is one of those women and Marco aka. Giggles is one of those men who does the rescuing. I received a free copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
I’m a big fan of romantic suspense so when I came across this series of a, to me, brand new author I had to give it a go! It had everything I love about romantic suspense: an alpha, badass hero, a heroine in danger that is strong and resilient, a brotherhood, tons of action and suspense, some good romance and hot smut. I could’ve done with a bit more romance and couple time, but other than that it was great! I love me a good damsel in distress moment and boyyy did we get one 🫣😖 I will definitely look into more work by this author!
Safety: - No OW - OM: bad guy wants h, he gets dealt with. - No cheating - No separation / no third act break up - Deals with human trafficking and rape!
Hot men saving women of the sex trafficking industry one at a time....
Ember and Marco's "Giggles" story starts out when he rescues her from a human trafficking house, where his team is there to rescue another young girl. Ember instantly feels safe with Marco. His team takes her to Second Chances which is a program of halfway homes with women that they have rescued from human trafficking going on in Mexico. They recive therapy, help, and a way to transition back into society. Ember is so grateful for the help she recived she decides to stay on and help other women like herself. She has no intention on being with another man until she is standing on solid ground that she has built on her own, with no help of a man. Marco has always wondered what happened to the women he saved, and she felt so safe with that she asked him to stick around and gaurd her room that first night in the halfway house. He has his chance when he funds out a year later that Ember is working closely with Trista the founder of Second Chances. But can Ember ever put her past behind her to be with another man, especially a.man that knows her past history? Can Marco be the man for her or will she always be reminded of the hell that she was saved by when she looks at him? Can the crazy new information they both learn about her past capture push them together and it all work out to a happily ever after? This book was filled with suspense, twists turns, major things you don't see coming, amazing sex, and so many things that you are not going to want to put this book down. I can't wait till Tristas story and read more about these extremely sexy men who litterly are bad a** men that are saving women in the sex trafficking industry. You aren't going to want to pass this book up, I have a feeling you are not going to want to miss this series!!!
I have read a lot in this genre, but never one so poorly plotted. The speed at which the main characters relationship evolved to love after a VERY brief encounter a year earlier just defied logic. Marco sees Ember a year after rescuing her and decides that very same day that she is the one for him. He has no clue what her year of recovery has been like for her after years being trafficked. Ember had possibilities at first, but her lack of true internal struggle with moving into a relationship so quickly was borderline insulting to women who were trafficked. The lack of depth to the characters is the hallmark of a lesser skilled writer. You could whistle a tune through the plot holes.
Bravo Team is here and if Protecting Ember is any indication of how gripping and addictive the series will be, then I cannot wait. Ms. Baker gave us a tease in her book Westley about the people on the Bravo team and I could not wait to see who her first book was going to be about and was I happy to see it was Marco, Giggles as his team calls him. He seems to be the one that keeps his team calm and in a good mood while in stressful situations. His team is responsible for finding and rescuing victims of human trafficking.
Marco is mysterious, handsome and has a way with words that will have you swooning over him in no time. He is also caring and kind with a lot of love to give. While on a mission, in Mexico, rescuing the victims of The King, the person running the trafficking ring, he rescues Ember. He knows that she has been through hell and back but there is something that has him attracted to her. They get Ember to a safe house where over time she decides she wants to stay on and help other victims. She works for Trista and her company Second Chances, which runs homes for victims that Wes's team rescues. She thinks that Marco is long gone but to her surprise, they meet again when there are new girls that need help. She has never forgotten the man that saved her. When they meet again they both have feelings for one another but Marco, being the gentleman that he is knows that she may not want a relationship at this time. Little does he know that he is all that she can think of. Would he ever care for someone that has been through what she has? Can he see past the person she was and see the person that she has become? When Ember overhears info about The King she needs to share it with Marco's team. This is where the twists and turns of the story start. A trip to Mexico for the team and Ember and all hell breaks loose. When dAnger rears its ugly head how will Ember, Marco and his team deal with it? Will everyone be safe? Who will Ember see and cause her nightmares to return? Will everyone make it back to the states?
I was riding an emotional rollercoaster while reading this book. I went from being happy and smiling to having my stomach in knots and holding my breath. Ms. Baker had me so intrigued with Marco and Ember's story that I kept turning the pages and hoping that it was not going to be the end. When I was at the end I wanted more. The cliffhanger or the lead into the next book left me with had me wanting to read the next book now. I cannot wait to see what Ms. Baker has in store for us with Trista and Falcon's story. Will my questions be answered that I had at the end of this book? I recommend adding Protecting Ember to your TBR list as well as Westley since there are character crossovers.
I have never been a fan of 3rd POV but I didn't mind that in this book. It was written so well and I wasn't confused as to whose POV a chapter belongs to. I liked the plot, story flow, action, suspense, and the main characters.
It was hard to read what happened to Ember. All the things she went through and how she remained strong all throughout that horrible event in her life. She was so strong, brave, and resilient. A true survivor of something horrific but still went above and beyond on her way to help out those women and girls to heal from the same misfortune that came upon them.
As for Marco, I liked his patience with Ember. The way he treated her was not like some fragile thing that'll be torn apart at any given time. I admire the fact that he kept asking for permission and he respects her decisions and what she wanted. He was sweet and protective of Ember, and his care for her never came across as overbearing and annoying, another plus point for me. Marco was just so in love with Ember, that nothing will stop him from taking and protecting what was his.
The action, mystery, and suspense was slowly killing me after every chapter. I'm so excited to anticipate what'll happen to their rescue mission, most especially when they were about to rescue Ember again from her captors. It was exhilarating reading every detail about their mission. How the Bravo team was ruthless and efficient with their missions.
Overall, I liked this book and I'm surprised it exceeded my expectations. Marco and Ember were likeable characters too. I enjoy reading them and their spicy scenes were hot AF. Though the story of the two of them were somehow already finished in this first book (HFN situation), the whole story about the trafficking ring was far from any closure. The succeeding books were needed to actually complete the whole story and be able to understand everything that's going on.
I'll consider reading the next books to have the entire picture of what was really happening. I can only hope the succeeding books will be enjoyable like this.
While I’m thoroughly enjoying the WJ Protection series that started with Charlie Team, then gave readers Westley's story which then leads into Bravo Team, in this book I have struggled with is poor editing. Especially when the books are roughly all around 200 pages and the chapters are only between four to six pages long, yet errors are continuing to crop up.
I try to refrain from deriding authors, as mistakes do happen, but when a series is barely eight books in and the author can’t remember the names of her characters or changes them mid way through the book, that becomes an issue.
Elizabella Baker has the potential to become a well-read author, however, if she can’t recall and correctly name the child who was kidnapped and keeps referring to her by her sister’s name, and then names three rescued women in chapter six then changes two names in chapter thirteen, this will quickly deter readers.
Additionally, while I know I’m old school and grammar these days isn’t the focus in education, it should be in writing. If you are going to refer to someone as being conceited, not once, but twice, then at least spell the word correctly. “Conceded” has a totally different meaning than “conceited”, yet conceded is the word the author used when she was clearly saying the male was “conceited”.
This review may seem harsh and I know others may be happy to overlook these errors, but as I am reading these books back to back the mistakes are glaringly obvious and if Ms Baker has an editor then she needs to take them to task for not adequately doing their job.
The only reason this book gets three stars is the storyline.
Finally! Bravo Team Series is here!! Woohoo!! Let the adventures begin again!
Bravo Team is tasked by Wes to bring a stop to human trafficking anywhere they can locate it. Bravo is Wes' Ghost team so these guys say little, and what they do say you better be listening.
Bravo 2, Marco “Giggles” Ricci, is the light-hearted guy on the team, keeping his friends spirits high in difficult situations. Don't get me wrong though when there is work to be done he is as serious and hard-working as rest.
Enter, Ember. Rescued the previous year by the team. She put her life together and is working with Trista.
She has never forgotten her protector from the terrible day she found freedom at last. He thinks she is long gone… until a chance meeting has them intouch again.
If that did not include enough twists and turns upon discovering the man that kept her captive is alive she goes with the team south of the border to save the other girls her is holding. Things don't go to plan…
The question becomes who is going to make the plane ride home? Sheesh!!
Bring the tissue box to this party because by the time you remember you were promised they all live Happily Ever After you are going to need them. They get there, it is how they get there that will have you on the side of your seat, holding on tight to your chair. Add a fact finding mission on the side…
Well, what are you waiting for?
I am now on a rereading mission whilst waiting to discover how the rest of Bravo Team's story unfolds.
I signed up for an ARC for Chasing Trista. Had never heard of this author but liked the cover. Her PA sent me this book to read prior to Chasing Trista, she said while it can be read as a standalone, I would enjoy it more with some background.
OMFG I was hooked. I absolutely loved this story from start to finish. It felt like I was watching an episode of The Unit. While I've never been a big fan of military romances, I am 100% about to read the entire connecting backlog in this universe.
Former Army Ranger and now Bravo Team member Marco "Giggles" Ricci saves our girl Ember from a freaking human trafficking stable. A year later they cross paths and BOOM!!! Chemistry.
The spice level on this is medium heat. Which I think is understandable since our girl is still healing from being a damn victim of sexual assault/rape for the last 4 years of her life!!!
I appreciated the care the author put into stressing boundaries, consent, and healing that was needed by our girl. I feel like she did her due diligence in research and was incredibly respectful. I felt like this was a love story. I would not classify this as smut but it's definitely not Hallmark or Lifetime.
I absolutely LOVED the action and overall storyline of Bravo and Charlie team rescuing women and chasing down the source of this specific trafficking ring.
I look forward to reading the rest of this series as it progresses and highly recommend.
Oh, now we’re getting somewhere! Ember is rescued by a stroke of luck when Marco’s team is on a different recovery mission and the team finds her. The only person who makes her feel safe is Marco, but they seem intent on avoiding each other for quite some time afterward. Is it shame, or remorse, or worry, or something else keeping them apart? Once things hit the fan again after a different rescue mission, Ember and Marco finally have a chance to figure it all out. But can they keep Ember safe, or is it all destined to fail and result in misery?
This series picks up where Charlie Team left off, and we’re heading into darker, deeper shadows and murky waters this time. Some answers are found, more questions pop up, and now everyone is on edge and trying to find out who’s really in charge of this vile business that King has going. I have a feeling Trista’s got some ideas and possibly an answer or three that she’s about to find, so she and Falcon can’t come our way soon enough for my impatient self!
Ember had a troubled childhood and when she turned eighteen, she left. At some point she was sold to human traffickers. Marco was an Army Ranger and when he left he joined Bravo Team they rescue people. They are in Mexico to rescue one of their teammates daughter when they find Ember. Ember goes to a shelter owned and operated by a model. She stays there and helps the other woman that are brought in. One of the girls rescued, remembers how to get to two of the places where they hold the women. Ember wants to go when she finds out the man who kept her is still alive. So they head to Mexico and on the way to the airfield to leave, she is taken and it takes everything in Marco not to go crazy. But will he get to her in time?
I read this in a couple of hours. Constant action and its a nail biter to the end. Sex. Suspense. It can be read alone but I think reading the ones before would help you understand everything because I was totally confused. But I loved it!!
Ex military men whose sole job is to rescue trafficked women? Sign me up! This book starts with Embers' rescue (by Marco and his sexy, strong, and awesome AF team, of course) and picks up again a year later. That was one part of this book I loved so much! It wasn't an instant romance type. Instead, Ember got a year to heal herself and start living life again before anything started with Marco! But seeing them work together to continue to help these trafficked women and seeing their relationship send up sparks of chemistry was amazing. And let's just talk about how AMAZING Marco is! He's the definition of men written by women, but his level of care, attention to detail, and amount of awareness he had going into their relationship makes me wish he was real! The reason it's not a 5 star is because I didn't like that the story was VERY predictable. But it made for a quick and fun read! It is a bit harder to handle at parts because of the nature of what's happening, so definitely look into the trigger warning beforehand!
Protecting Ember by Elizabella Baker is a romantic suspense novel. It has our main characters Marco “Giggles” Ricci and Ember.
The FMC Ember is getting her life back together after being rescued by Marcos team. She not only is taking this second chance to better her life but to also help others that have been in the same situation. I found Ember very sweet, compassionate and strong.
Marco “giggles” Ricci, ooohhh boy. This has got to be one of the sweetest bad asses I’ve ever read about. He was absolutely perfect. The way he was with Ember was amazing. He was sweet, patient, kind, understanding and non judgmental. He never looked down on Ember for her past. I think Marco was the perfect MMC for Ember.
Elizabella Baker did a great job of keeping the action and suspense while telling a story of healing, self forgiveness, and finding love. I can not wait for Falcon and Tristas story next.
This book is book one of the new Bravo Team series. It is so good! I am so excited for the next book in the series!! This book was wonderfully written and the storyline is really interesting!
Ember is working at Second Chances a halfway house for women saved from human trafficking. Ember is the perfect person to do this job because she has first hand knowledge. She was sold by a “boyfriend” to a Mexican Trafficking Ring that had her for way too long! She was rescued before she could be killed by an evil John.
Marco “Giggles” works for Wes the owner of a special opps company that searches and rescues young women from the evil hands of traffickers.
While on another mission they find Ember and rescue her. Her “Owner” is mad and will stop at nothing to make sure she pays!
This is an exciting book with some unusual twists along the way. It is an excellent book with amazing characters and I can’t wait for the next book in this series!!
Protecting Ember is the first book in the Bravo Team series. But we still get Wes and the Charlie Team too. And Trista is also a secondary character as well. If you’ve read Westley, she makes an appearance there. However, it is not a necessity to read it before this one. This can be read as a stand alone. Just gives you a better idea of some of things that are portrayed in Protecting Ember. I enjoyed Ember and Marco, they have undeniable chemistry. I love how strong Ember is and finding her independence after everything she has been through. And Marco for still giving her that, and not judging her, while watching over her as well. Another great book. I can’t wait for the next one.
I am fairly new to Elizabella Baker’s book but I have loved them and Protecting Ember was a great read that I found very hard to put down. I loved Marco’s fierceness and his protective nature especially when it came to Ember. Ember has been through hell and with time she has healed. When Marco and Ember meet there is undeniable chemistry and an attraction that is strong but it is a year before they can both act on their attraction. I loved everything about this book. The storyline was great and all the characters are strong and passionate. Cannot wait for the next book in the series.
I received an arc copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Wow, another one for the books. This book was absolutely amazing from beginning to end. I had to force myself to put it down so that I could actually get some sleep the other night. Marco and Ember's story was full of steam, sass, and suspense. It was one heck of a rollercoaster, and I absolutely loved it. If you get the chance to read it, I'd definitely recommend that you dive right in. I promise you won't regret it. ❤️
P.S. I'm super excited to see what happens with the rest of the characters on the team, *especially* Falcon and Trista!! 😁
This series follows on after westley. This series is not for the faint hearted (rape and beatings) poor ember she holds her own.not a fan of trista I thought second change was a cold title.it should be safe heaven or hope etc.second chance implies they did something wrong they did not.most was kidnapped some manipulation. They don't have to tone for anything. They have to heal the heart (hey good name) so I thought the author was wrong in the name for tristas charity.
Well Wes Security fans. It's Bravo team's turn for HEA! Ember was saved at the same time as Kaylee. Its one year later and she is now Tristas right had woman but she never for got the kind man who carried her out of the stable. Little does she know he hasn't forgot her either. But just as their romance is starting to blossom to love she gets kidnapped again. Will we finally find out King's identity??Will Marco save Ember in time??? You have to read to find out.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Giggles and Ember kept me glued to it pages!! This story is filled with enough suspense and action to keep you swiping/flipping those pages!!
We finally learned who King is and let me tell you F E C K I N G mind blowing!!!! I did not suspect it!!!! Which made me love the story even more. And now I have my suspicions of who the other is!!!
Held against her wishes and being treated as meat would break any girl. Ember was determined to save herself. You had to respect her determination and grit to get her life back. Marco is so sweet and love that he was willing to go after what he decided was his but within her boundaries. I loved that there was no games between them but honesty. Wes is as always an amazing leader! Watch out who ever crosses his path. Loved this book & looking forward to the next!
Another fabulous 5 star read from Elizabella Baker! It's books like Protecting Ember that keep me pressing the buy now or pre order buttons, this is book 1 in the Bravo team series and it has a great storyline, wonderful characters action, romance, Marco "giggles" Ricci is everything Ember needs and he needs her too! I absolutely adore these characters and I can't wait to read Chasing Trista
Another great start to an Elizabella Baker series!!! Marco is an alpha male protector as all the guys are and Ember is a woman who has survived any woman's worst nightmare and come out the other side stronger. The chemistry between Marco and Ember is off the charts. Can't wait for the next in the series. Keep them coming Elizabella.
Received as an ARC and leaving my honest review voluntarily. This story drew me in from the start and didn't let up until the end. The plot had suspense, action and twists that I didn't see coming. The attraction between Marco and Ember was slow burn and steamy. Definitely a fast paced exciting story worth reading. However note that there may be triggers for sensitive readers.
It feels like a cheap plot device with authors use SA or a full blown trafficking empire that the FMC had to endure but don't show the painstaking recovery. Why use something so incredibly dark if you're not going to show the aftermath. Fast forward a year and fmc has miraculously healed enough to fall into insta-everything?? Not buying it.
New author for me and I loved it. Ember made some bad choices that landed her in a nightmare. Marco rescues her and keeps his distance. The Bravo team tracks down and takes down sex trafficking rings. Ember and Marco find love along the way. Action, romance and suspense all rolled into one
New team, new players in the game of Find the King. Good outcomes for two new lovebirds, but it doesn’t come easily. Ready for Book 2. Will the story deliver the final nail in the coffin of King? Or the final nail in the life of one of the “good” guys?
