She's my best friend's little sister… And my biggest secret.
Logan
It’s been two years since I left for college and the last time I saw Isla, but when she shows up on my doorstep, the last thing I’m expecting is old feelings to resurface. Growing up, we were friends, until everything started to shift. Our friendship turned into stolen kisses and forbidden touches, but we agreed it could never be anything more. Not when her brother was my best friend. Leaving Clifton Falls meant leaving the past behind too. Hockey is my life now, more so than before, and Isla is a distraction. But what happens when the lines begin to blur and she becomes the only thing I can see?
Isla
Logan Knight– Star hockey player, my brother's best friend, and the first boy I ever loved. But we could never be more than friends. He broke my heart when he left for college and now, two years later, he's back in my life and my new roommate. Old feelings resurface and our friendship is put to the test. I've tried to resist him as long as I could, but Logan has a way of knocking down every wall I've built around my heart. It's only a matter of time before our secret comes to light and when it finally does, will Logan be the one to protect my heart?

1.5★ | I picked this book up because the cover was cute, and so was the blurb, but the best friend's little sister nonsense once again ruined it. Summary: a pathetic heroine and a worthless hero.
They went from friends to secret lovers in high school while he had a girlfriend but he still visited the heroine at night because "she was the only one he wanted, but they couldn't be together" → the first of many red flags...
Two years later, she ends up in college living with her brother and the hero, who swears to her that he'll be a better friend now than before, only to end up acting like a real possessive jerk at the first frat party she attends, taking her back to the apartment, to end up doing "more than friends" stuff. And for what? to act like nothing happened the next day and agree with the heroine's brother when he was talking about avoiding commitment to anyone and just focusing on hockey. Once again she was the hero's dirty secret. → Whose hero is this? definitely NOT mine!
Also, he confessed to her that he had not been a saint in those two years that they had not seen each other, but that "she was always the only one for him. → If this character was real I would have kicked him in the balls by now.
The whole book is practically the same; the heroine trying to stand her ground but giving in to him in the name of chemistry and soulmatism, and the hero more concerned with remaining "loyal" to his best friend, even when that meant keeping said best friend's little sister as dirty secret, and treating her poorly even when she was "the one".
I'm interested in August and Poppy's story, but considering how this hero turned out I choose to be realistic so I have ZERO faith in them.
A failed attempt at chasing the highIcebreakerandConsider Megave me.
The tropes ✨ brother’s best friend ✨ childhood crush ✨ age gap (2 years) ✨ hockey romance
All of these things make me think that I would love it. Unfortunately, I did not. The characters had no personality or interests aside from each other (and hockey, sort of?). Imagine having no personality? Imagine reading a book with two characters so shallow that they have no interests, nothing in common, and absolutely no motivations outside of getting in each others’ pants?
Can’t really recommend this one unless you’re down with a quick and easy read with no plot. The jealousy scenes tickled me though.
Also had to deduct a whole star for the baby girl pet name.
dnf at 24%. this book has one of my fav tropes (yk if done well) and somehow isla and logan both managed to piss me off the same amount.
this dude lead her on, tried to hide her away for what reason idk exactly other than ofc her brother, but like its not really mentioned if he actually cares or not?? and then he leaves her ass and doesnt talk to her for TWO years, and once they end up having to live together (with her brother) he wants to act like nothing happened and that they can just be friends? what kind of twisted mind games is this man playing?
and ISLA JUST FALLS FOR IT. this man could be her biggest opp and she would still blush and giggle at him like a TWELVE year old.
i’ve dnf’d this author’s work before at least once but maybe twice, so i will give the next book in the series a chance, if it doesnt work then im just gonna have to say this author’s writing style isnt for me
Yes! This one was just wanted I needed. A perfect mix of forbidden, friends to lovers and the love of hockey.
Logan and Isla have known each other for years. He was her brother's best friend so he was always around. Warned away from her and he tried his hardest to do so. As time goes by, chemistry becomes too strong to avoid. Touches, kisses and sweet moments are stolen in the dark. Eventually though, they must return to the light that forces them to hide.
These two were pretty darn perfect together. Logan is swoon worthy. I did want to gut punch him and fondle his junk almost in the same breath. I was rooting for Isla to get her guy and I'm glad she stayed true to herself.
Can't wait until the next book in the series. I'm fully invested and know this couple is gonna be fire!
my issue lies mainly with the love interest, logan. he is a walking red flag.. first he keeps isla as his “secret girlfriend” in high school, essentially taking advantage of her crush on him. which is disgusting. he says all this stuff about how it would “never be okay” that they date, but why does he need a girlfriend while secretly fooling around with her?
and things get creepy right off the bat when isla starts college. he calls her babe.. which to my knowledge isn’t just a fun little nickname. he WALKS IN ON HER SHOWERING AND REFUSES TO LEAVE. he drives her to school and walks her in to “protect her”. and then, ladies and gentlemen, he gets overwhelmingly jealous when isla makes a male friend. like.. borderline obsessive jealous. AND THEN, he shows up to the party he knows she’s at and searches EVERY INCH of the house to “protect her” some more. but it gets worse! when he finds her CONSENSUALLY cozying up to her friend, he FLIPS THE ABSOLUTE FUCK OUT while she internally talks about how she’s upset he did this. then, they get back to the apartment, isla is STILL DRUNK and logan starts fooling around with her. barf. THIS IS NOT SEXY!!!!!!
he does the same thing at another party, but this time physically grabbing silas off of isla of remarking on how mad he was that she looked happy. ugh. and isla is completely spineless, essentially willing to let this man control her life.
lastly, he is such an insecure weirdo that when isla hangs out with silas he gets all mad and moody, like they can’t just be friends? overall he is a stupid, controlling bitch with some issues.
i don’t know about you, but i would rather read romance with healthy relationships.
Having loved Logan Knight since childhood, Isla Whitley has accepted that she will never be more than a dirty little secret to her brother’s best friend.
When her brother, August, surprises Isla with a room in the apartment he shares with Logan at Wyncote University, the past comes crashing into the present.
Old habits die hard. Feelings are hurt, mistakes are made, promises are broken. Throughout it all, it’s clear Logan and Isla are meant to be. Their HEA is hard won and all the more perfect because of it.

This was very weird because there was no plot, the characters had no personality, and there was just nothing going for it.
The writing felt like idk something you’d see a 6th grader write as a play for a school talent show.
I’m genuinely so confused because I read 300+ words but it was of nothing. Actually I know more about the female mcs brother than I do about either of the mcs. The next book is for him but omfg he was stalking this girl who literally did everything in her power to cut him off and tell him she wasn’t interested but she was “the only one for him” while he was hooking up with other people at parties??? So I don’t want to read their “love story” bc wtf was that.
All the characters were just so bad. And I think there’s like 5/6 books from these side characters? No thank you
Thank to the author for sending me this ARC! - release date: june 29th 2022
This books was overall really cute! It was fast paced, brother’s best friend and kinda second chance? I don’t really have anything bad to say, other than I wish there had been more development.
i thought that the stolen but soft touches, the lingering stares, and the whispers of sweet nothings were the perfect approach to showcase isla and logan’s complex and layered relationship that transitioned them from friends-to-lovers.
was it distinctly wattpadesque? it was, but i still had fun while reading so who really cares?
i mean it’s just a wattpad that i read on kindle, it doesn’t have any real meaning at all and was just for funsies, but it wasn’t horrible. i mean the smut>>>>> wowza. except for let’s stop the baby girl talk like sir are you dating a child why are you calling her that just it needs to end in all books and movies etc. and it was very overused in this one, but anyways it was a very basic plotline of brothers best friend but it was good. oh, and i definitely did not start reading it just cause of the cover like why would anyone ever even think that, but damn who is that man i need someone to find him he is beautiful. anyways, i read it in a day like any other of these basic ones, so yeah if u just want a smutty stupid quick read it’s a good one.
This was a cute little book, a bit between a book and a novella. Isla has been in love with her brothers best friend Logan since, duh, forever and same with Logan. Logan and Hunter, her brother, are hockey stars and leave for college. Two years later, Isla joins them, moving into their apartment.
Logan has always kept his distance, to protect her from him and to not piss off Hunter, but all bets are off now. It’s a quick and easy read, and a cute and sweet one!
I'm giving this 1 star because i cant give it less. I swear this was so bad.
1. there was literally no plot 2. the relationship lacked chemistry, fun moments, interactions... they were in love since forever but there is nothing for us to see them in love? supousedly they have known each other forever but there is no backstory we are told for them to have form any kind of connection. apparently he cheats on his high school girlfriend with her? while she is like 16 and he is 18 which i dont mind the age gap, just the fact that he cheats on his girlfriend with her? 3. the pet names, omg so disgusting. ive never read a more unnatural "baby" or "baby girl" ever. "baby girl" is just the most disgusting pet name ever. 4. she was literally the weakest female ive read in my whole life i believe. istg how can someone be so submissive and passive in one's life? how can a character in a book be so lame and boring and passive??? everything in her life was controlled by the male interest and her brother. 5. the brother seemed like the actual mc of this story more than the alledged couple 6. there were no friends or side characters in this books, they were extremely weak and just left there 7. the silas storyline? such bullshit, she was stringing him along while he dismissed her and then wanted her back and became suddenly a possesive alpha when before he was as soft as a cat??? 8. he's all the book repeating the "i will always protect you" but what the hell she's a normal college student? what does she need protection of? 9. the brother and the friend both were pathetic sexist and controlling characters, not it a cute hot way but in a makes-me-frown kinda way 10. the friends??????? no sense literally what were they doing? 11. the development of the relationship? non existent. when did they fall in love? when did they develop feelings? what things did they do that kept them in love? what were the personalities?? 12. the father storyline, literally it was dropped out of nowhere? 13. the hockey storyline was so bad istg 14. she was so so so lame and passive. never standing up for herself. a literal doormat. 15. he was not cute or hot at all, like he was a literal suffering all along. he just suffered, and he was pretending not to be good enough for her? like why? everyone was like "you know me you know im not good enough"?? there was literally not one example of why he wasn't good enough. i mean, for me yes, but those where not the reasons they were claiming. 16. she shouldn't have gotten back with him. he literally did whatever he wanted, changing his mind out of nowhere, one paragraph he was gone for her (no one knows why) and the next he was all for staying away and protecting the friendship for her brother.
many more things that i could go on about if i had the time, but i already wasted enough reading this shit and i hope that this is retired from the shop because it doesn't deserve a place there. waste of time and money. cant get them back. damaged my eyes.
✅ Brother’s best friend ✅ College romance ✅ Hockey romance ✅ Second chance romance ✅ Roommates ✅ Friends to lovers ✅ Dual POV
Not bad for a debut novel! I definitely had a fun time reading it, and since it has only around 200 pages it’s a great quick read to get out of a slump.
I must admit Isla’s brother annoyed be a bit, though. I love protective brothers more than anything but he came across as an entitled prick sometimes. And the fact that both Logan and Isla obeyed him (when they wanted to do the opposite thing) and didn’t even try to fight back… 🫤
However I really enjoyed the connection between Logan and Isla (gotta love a protective/possessive/jealous MMC) and I can’t wait for August and Poppy’s story (I totally saw the *beep* trope coming and 😍)

This was the perfect brothers best friends forbidden love story add in some hockey and I was hooked! The story was well written I loved the characters Logan had me swooning Isla had me cheering her on this story was filled with angst drama and steam just everything you want in this type of romance I couldn’t get enough of this couple Cali definitely brought all the feels! Can’t wait for the next book in this series!
This was a very sweet, hockey romance by Cali Melle... Cali Melle is the pen name of C.M. Radcliff who writes incredible dark romances!!! I really liked this story!!! It was a forbidden, brother's best friend love story and Isla with Logan were sooo adorable!!! I enjoyed their journey and I can not wait for more of this world cause I am sure that August and Poppy would be fire!!!
"I can't let him mess with my heart and my head again... not this time."
Isla and Logan grew up together... He was her brother's best friend and her first crush... She was the forbidden fruit that he could never touch... Still... two years ago, they had stolen some sweet kisses and innocent touches!!! But then, Logan had left for college and Isla never saw him again...
"I always knew he would be the one to hurt me."
At the present, Isla is going to the same college as August, her brother and his best friend, Logan... Imagine her surprise when she is blindsided on living with these two in the same apartment and a fire that had been put out two years ago is about to light up even bigger than before... Logan never forgot her, but it is impossible for these two to be more than just two friends. Right??? Will Isla fall under Logan's spell for once again or he is destined to break her heart for one more time??? Can Logan afford to lose his focus on the game??? Is Isla just a distraction or something more than that??? Can he lose his best friend in the name of love and passion???
"This is different from drunken kisses and secretive touches... we're playing with a deck of 52 hearts. I just wonder how long until one of us folds..."
I liked Isla and Logan very much... They were cute together!!! I liked the connection between them, even though I would love to go deeper on them and see more of their feelings... Logan was afraid to lose his best friend, but I liked how possessive he was of Isla!!! Isla knew what she wanted from the beginning and she knew that she needed to fight for that chance!!! These two were just perfect for each other... My only objection is that i would have loved more development of their characters!!!
"She was always suppossed to be off-limits, but the temptation has always been there."
**I received an ARC for the exchange of an honest review**
This was way too predictable..... Logan is Isla's brother's (August) best friend and right before Logan leaves for college, he goes to Isla and is like "I don't like hiding you and keeping you my dirty little secret."
Um excuse me sir, all you did was kiss her and never really fooled around. So she can't be your dirty little secret. I also don't like how he treated her and in the beginning and in some chapters he just came off as a douche. I also didn't like the "other man" drama, where Silas is in Isla's friend group and tries to hit on her and Logan tries to come in and be the protective hero. All the conflict that happened could have been saved if they literally all talked and communicated. It would have prevented August from hating them for a split second.
Anyways I'm excited for the second one because it has the surprise pregnancy trope 😛
Brothers best friend will always be the superior romance trope, but add in hockey and I am gone for!!! Logan and Isla are so cute together, and you can just feel their connection and love they had for one another leap off the page. There was the perfect amount of angst, tension, chemistry, feels and sexy times and I'm just so excited for the rest of the series!!
This book was such an easy yet touching read, and I just adored everything about these two. Isla didn't let Logan walk all over her, and Logan proved over and over again that she could count on him and her heart will forever be safe with him. They were just so perfect for one another!
Cali definitely had another winner on her hands, and with that sneak peek for the next book, I'm going to be counting down the days until it releases!! Don't miss out on this one!
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions **
Nothing gets me going more like a brothers best friend romance mixed with hockey! I finished this is one sitting!
Logan & Isla have had a couple of moments together before Logan goes off to college. She’s tired of being his dirty little secret, but the love she has for him… makes it hard to stop.
Now it’s 2 years later and Isla is about to be attending the same school… Not only that, but she will be living with Logan and her brother August! Unaware of said plans until arriving on campus.
Mistakes get made, promises get broken and well, you know how that saying goes; old habits die hard.
Which is the perfect motto for these two love birds.
Sports romance with Brothers best friend Forced proximity Forbidden Virgin Heroine Friends to Lovers Protective/possesive MMC
Spice level is a 2.5, but what we get.. ouuff😮💨😮💨😮💨 We also get dual POV and of course, HEA.
Now i’m super excited to start my ARC of book 2 in this series!!
5 FOREVER STARS!! What a great start to this series. You know when two people are meant for each other and this is Logan and Isla. These two touched every corner of my heart from beginning to the last word. I can't wait for the next book.
3.75⭐️ A brothers best friend trip with hockey. I did enjoy the book but there was a lot of back and forth with the characters that I didn’t like that much.
Started out good. I was excited about Logan and Isla's story. I was looking forward to all the angst and sneaking around. all the things we love in a brother's best friend story. But Logan was an idiot. I really was infuriated with his constant back and forth. He was always playing with Isla's emotions and it didn't sit well with me. He made bad choices at every turn. Their relationship felt very telling and not showing to me. Which is always a bummer. It felt underdeveloped. It was a short book - just about 200 pages - so I felt that there could have been time to develop their relationship and show us how the fell in love.
That said, I did enjoy the book. I read it in one sitting because I was intrigued and invested in Logan and Isla. I like this world and am looking forward to more in this series and from this author.
the worst brother's best friend and hockey romance. and why was everyone always drunk, it was basically every chapter. don't even get me started on the mmc. he led that poor girl on for years as his dirty little secret EVEN while having a gf but oh sorry they didn't do the deed while she was high school because she's a year younger then him so he waited till she was 18. how sweet? he was loyal alright but to the wrong person. he was in the wrong the whole time
