Saint Charles de Foucauld: His Life and Spirituality

Rate this book
An early life of wrenching loss, unbelief, and rebellion preceded Charles de Foucauld’s unlikely journey to holiness. After a profound encounter with God’s mercy and love transformed the reckless adventurer, he devoted his life to seeking “Nazareth.” Ultimately Charles’ search led him to follow Jesus in humility and prayerful solidarity with the Muslim people of Algeria, making him a prophetic witness of communion today. Author Sr. Cathy Wright, a Little Sister of Jesus living out the spirituality of Saint Charles de Foucauld, weaves an insightful portrait of this twentieth-century saint through narrative, photographs, and excerpts from his writings. In the second part of the book, Sr. Cathy invites the reader to pray with Charles de Foucauld via meditations and reflection questions on significant themes in his spiritual life.

A beautiful introduction to a newly canonized saint, for his life and spirituality. I appreciated the accessible nature that his biography is written in, and the second part which contains meditations on Charles de Foucauld’s spirituality and items to consider in prayer. A true gift to the Church!
