Organizations provide mind-boggling compensations to their leaders as compared to an average employee. Is it because they work more?
Just like the saying ‘we are the decisions we make’, the very existence of an organization depends on the decisions its leaders make! Decision-making is not just a process. It is an interplay among competitive strategies, processes, design, values and culture. Narrating the experiences of industry decision-makers, the book demonstrates that organizational decision-making is about making tough choices―navigating through a minefield of biases and execution issues. It walks the readers through the challenges faced by every decision-maker and how these decisions affect the organization. It also goes on to lay out a series of tools that readers can immediately use to enhance their organizational decision-making skills. From analysing key decisions of the past to shaping new ones, this book will equip readers with effective strategies that will allow them to become an integral part of their organization’s decision-making environment.
Businesses are always on the lookout for effective decision-makers. Whether you are looking to move up the career ladder or do well in your personal life, with How Leaders Decide you will be well on your way!

He understands how things work in the corporate set-up and he has very much been a part of it for a very long period of time. He totally understands what is the importance of a big decision in the life-cycle of a business and he must have been involved in many of those... I have been exaggerating the same thing, I guess, but that's worth mentioning here. I have been impressed by the book and I am sure others like me who are in the beginning of their corporate careers will like the book.
One of the best business books I have read this year... This book solves the puzzle of business or corporate or organisational decision making for the readers in a convenient way. The book discusses many practices one after another and offers the readers a very clear perspective on both sides, the positive and the negative. Relevant examples are there as well. These ideas that the author has shared in the book are amazing... explained in simple terms and also referenced very well with relevant examples, research articles and case studies. I learnt many new things from this book and would surely recommend it to the readers who are just out of the box of academic years – fresh MBA graduates, fresh business school youngsters and even those who have spent decades in the leading roles in corporate sectors.
This is one of a kind book... you will understand everything about business decision making, corporate kinetic chain, who decides, how does it happen, when it happens and so many other things. It can be a perfect guide book for anyone who wants to understand the subject.
A fantastic book on Decision Making. The book covers so many aspects of decision making that I was not even aware of. It covers Decision Making Models, Decision Making Styles, Decision Making Philosophies, Decision Making Strategy, Group Decision Making, Dynamic Decision Making, Frontline Decision Making.
It even covers aspects like Culture, Diversity, Inclusion, Ethics and Creativity. The book does not stop there, it goes to Planning, Execution, Communication and Change Management. The highlight of the book is Decision Making Skills, Decision Toolkit, A good primer on Biases and Risks.
This is like a business story book. There are so many business stories in the book that you do not even realize that you are reading a business book. The good part is that after reading each chapter you actually learn a few things about decision making. I really enjoyed it.
I did enjoy learning from this book. The author has simplified the concepts that would otherwise be complex for the readers to understand. An ideal book for anyone who wants to understand the process of making decisions by the bosses, business leaders and start-up masters. Recommended.
This is a wonderful book for anyone who wants to understand the process of decision making that businesses follow. It is theory, practical and realistic description of things as they happen. Can you imagine, there are actually 200+ stories for real organisations in this book and each story has a point. Most of these stories are of known organizations and leaders. I liked the story comparing decision making styles of Apple and Google. How both the styles are so different and yet so successful.
It's been sometime since I've read a good book on leadership. This book gives a thorough outlook on what goes on in a leaders mind.
Cover: The cover is well thought and the colour used is appealing.
Content: As you have already guessed this book is all about leadership, about the mentality of the leaders. What their thought processes are. The author has used colloquial language which is easy to read and interpret.
Not everyone can become a leader, but to become the one you need to have a correct mindset. And how to develop that Mindset? You will find it in this book.
Final Verdict: Very well written and it can be read by readers of every age as it contains a lot of knowledge.
This book is like a movie, very refreshing. This book is reader friendly. Simple language and smooth flow. The whole concept is explained using business stories from the real world. Loved reading it.
This book simple. It has simple language, simple stories, simple concepts. However the impact of the book is magnificent. Each chapter opens some windows of the mind. You start thinking about your management style. A very good book for leaders.
Perhaps the best book I have read on this topic. And this coming from an accomplished business profiler himself makes much sense. Harjeet's ideas are relevant, recent and relatable. I would love to recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand the process of decision making in the corporate sector. Enjoy.
This is a masterpiece by RK Laxman of Business, Harjeet Khanduja. He treated the subject exceedingly well. I wanted to wait for the hard copy. But I could not wait. So I bought the book, read it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I want to buy the hard copy all the more.
How Leaders Decide (HLD) is The Bhagwat Gita of Decision making. This book offers multitudinous panoramas of decision-making.
Decisions taken by me in the past flashed back to me while going through the book. I was able to contemplate on what was the reason behind some of my good decisions and how could I have improved other decisions.
Improvising from HLD - One can't Use Up This Book Completly. The More One Uses, The More Knowledge It Would Offer. This book would help in reflecting back on past experiences. The more experience one would have, the better value would one be able to derive from those experiences through this book. For newbies and learners, this book is inundated with concepts, knowledge, and philosophies.
While the word decision making looks complex, this book puts into the picture, all aspects of decision making and lucidly puts different decision-making frameworks into a structure. The different parameters affecting a decision have been clearly laid out and very well explained.
The most engrossing part of HDL is the stories that the author has used. The stories are pretty lively, and I could feel living through a few of those.
I just loved reading this book. This is one of the few books that I would go back to for reference while making decisions, mentoring, or consulting.
The author has given a very in depth analysis & explanation about the driving forces of a successful Leadership for instance Why = Belief/Vision/Purpose, How = Actions and What = Results of Actions. Now this ain't it!!!, there is much more than what I have tried to understand about this book and to know more please take the pain of reading it 😀.
Definitely a must read for all those who are interested in working out their own business and even the others who are struggling with finding stability in their lives and things around them "Start with Why" definitely has a lot of Answers. This is one of the best books I read in my list. The author of the book, narrated very clear how great leaders started with WHY and inspired people.
Awesome is the word for this book. This book changed my perception about business books. It is written in simple language yet so engaging. Mind blowing examples and data points. I am going to use this as a reference book for the rest of my career.
People often say that they find it hard to make decisions. Unfortunately, we all have to make decisions all the time, ranging from trivial issues like what to have for lunch, right up to life-changing decisions like where and what to study, and who to marry. Some people put off making decisions by endlessly searching for more information or getting other people to offer their recommendations. Others resort to decision-making by taking a vote, sticking a pin in a list or tossing a coin. But a leader can't resort to such things.
How Leaders Decide by Harjeet Khanduja is a distinctive book on leadership. The author has told numerous stories from reputed organizations across the world. All these stories are an inspiration. I had read some of these stories earlier as well but still today they act as teachers. The important fact is that there are some stories of bad decisions and downfall too as I think it's very much important in life to highlight failure too. All these stories are interconnected and interwoven, and this is something another winning pointer.
The author has explained a complex subject like decision-making in such a simple language with relatable stories. The writing style is good. There are so many practical things which anyone can relate to and implement in his/her day-to-day life.
An astounding book for individuals from corporate life.

It can be good or bad. But taking right decisions at right time is the mantra of the book. Wise decisions taken at right time will always lead you ahead in your personal as well as professional life. The tips and the ideas shared in the book is quite practical and helpful. The author had shared the idea of decision making on the basis of his rich experiences in different sectors like pharma, manufacturing, retail and at present in telecom as a Senior VP HR Reliance Jio.
So, the useful tips given in the book helps you to improve your decision making capacity, its implementation and execution.
Though, i had read many other books on decision making but this would be the first book that sees decision making from many angles.
"When we all think alike, then no one is thinking" - My favourite quote from the book.
Decision making can happen at any level in an organization. It can be from top down or bottom up. Regardless, it is imperative that we understand that this is very much important as it is a glue that will bind everyone together.
And irrespective of what is said otherwise, there are a certain set of challenges that these people, who are endowed with such heavy responsibility have to face every single day.
Author Harjeet Khanduja, in his book, ‘How Leaders Decide: Tackling Biases and Risks in Decision-making’ has therefore done an excellent job of bringing forth the interesting tribulations that are faced by the person of authority.
We see how within the leadership itself, there are certain issues and in such situations, the problem or right solution cannot be grasped, hence a different approach needs to be adopted.
The book also has some of the monumental instances which resulted into being a key factor that paved way for many to imprint and learn from.
I liked how we see both sides, rather than just seeing the positives, but also the hurdles and roadblacks that arise, hence I am going to give this FIVE STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I preferred the book particularly for a quite certain explanation. By and large dynamic books favor one side and teach reasonable dynamic over instinct based independent direction. This book didn't favor one side. It made sense of the significance of both the dynamic models and the circumstances where these models ought to be utilized. How genuine pioneers have been utilizing these models to make their associations fruitful. An even book by and large.
The book is brimming with stories from rumored associations across the globe. We never understand that such countless stories exist in the corporate world. Subsequent to perusing every one of the tales, I feel more sure as a leader.
There are a few accounts of destruction and terrible choices too. These accounts help us to remember the significance of having great pioneers. How these accounts are interconnected and interlaced, that makes this book special.
