Desperately seeking a fresh start in a new town, a reluctant ghost whisperer is bitterly disappointed when she realizes to defeat the demons in her present, she'll first have to face the ghosts of her past.
When Holly Daniel moves to the small mountain town of Glenwood Springs, she's hoping for a peaceful life as a hotel bartender. But what she finds instead is a mystery that will take all the courage she can muster.
It's up to her to use her secret gift as a ghost whisperer to solve the mystery of the missing tiara or face the demise of the beloved historic hotel. Will she be able to confront the ghosts from her past and save the town? Or will her anger management issues get in the way?
You won't want to miss this series starter, where you'll come to know not only Holly but her talking ghost cat and 143-year-old flannel nightgown-wearing roommate.
I don’t mind a PNR with a couple of ghostly characters, however I could not stand Holly. She had potential. An interesting backstory, and recent traumas, but she just came across as so angry and arrogant that it completely put me off the book (which was a shame because the synopsis had me intrigued). I didn’t care who stole the tiara, nor did I care what any of the other characters were up to. Just a hard No.
I will start with something good. Using first person with an added "real time" tense is interesting. The book itself is just not very good IMO. Between the anger management issues and jumping to conclusions, the main character's personality leaves something to be desired.
I was really enjoying this book and downloaded the next two books before I had finished. However by the middle the book I was wondering if I had made a mistake. It started off really good but after Holly got the job as bartender you saw a different side to her and to be honest I didn't like her. Okay she was orphaned and widowed which would give anybody a chip on her should but Holly's was just to big and that doesn't didn't give her the right to be rude and she didn't even try to do what she was being paid to do, talk to ghosts. Everybody was in the wrong but her and it got annoying. I thought the ghost were going to play a bigger part in the story but that wasn't the case I would have loved to have seen more from Mystery the talking ghost cat and Clara the ghost living in her house. The mystery it's self was okay with a number of suspects but would have liked more talking to the ghosts. I will read the next book and just hope that Holly has grown up more. Holly wants a new start in life and When she finds a house going cheaper than expected she snaps it up. It's only then that She discovers that's because it's haunted. So is is the local hotel and the manager wants to hire her to talk to the resident ghosts and find out who stole a tiara from a famous pop star, while she was sleeping. Holly just wants a simple life and to ignore the ghosts around her but when the bad publicity threaten to close the hotel and cost Holly her job, she has no choice but to investigate the case herself or move on again.
What a wonderful beginning to this series. I love the fact that it's based in Glenwood Springs. I spent my high school years + in that area and it was wonderful to try to kind of figure out some of the areas that are generalized. Holly is talking to the ghosts at the Red Castle to help solve the missing tiara mystery. That is one crazy adventure. She did get off the path a little but her friends Wendy and Lukiet brought her back. The back and forth between her and the Sherriff was great. I found the mystery to be quite charming. I had several guesses so it was fun to figure out who it was. Both the living and the spirits were well-written.
Here in Glenwood, our haunted hotel is called Hotel Colorado. Many stories and experiences. I've had three. Thanks for sharing your story.
After moving from Florida to Colorado, she discovers why the house she bought was so cheap. It has a resident ghost named Clara. She sees and can talk to ghosts and has been able to since she was a little girl. Getting a job as a bartender in a hotel that is known to be haunted with several ghosts, her boss wants her to talk to the ghosts to find out who stole a pop star, Lucy M’s tiara from her head while she sleep. You must read the book to find out all that happens and who the culprit is that stole the tiara.
Holly moves to Colorado to become a bartender. The lovely old home she buys is the home of a sweet granny and a dead cat named Mystery. Within a day she is hunting down a stolen Tierra that is all has been stolen from rock star. Holly sets out to find the Tierra and the thieves. Think she'll find it,maybe with the help of all the ghosts around!
Holly leaves a lucrative career in Florida to move to Glenwood Springs to lead a simple life. She buys a Victorian house that come with 145 year old ghost and a ghost cat, Holly can see and communicate with ghost. Along with Wendy, Julie, Sheriff, and the ghosts they try to solve the mystery of the disappearance of a tiara. This is a great cozy read. Starting the second book in the series.
Honestly the story was interesting if you get past the main character. She is absolutely awful. She is an annoying self centered brat with a horrible attitude problem. Angry at the world and treats everyone around her terribly. Throws toddler tantrums if someone tells her something she doesn’t want to hear and doesn’t listen to anything anyone says just running off half cocked and getting herself into trouble. 2/5 stars, don’t recommend.
Interesting premise, however, Holly has a very bad attitude and anger management issues. She practically alienates everyone she comes in contact with. After her friends confront her with the honest truth about her actions and attitude - she starts to change? Hard to believe that one conversation will change someone with a huge chip on their shoulder.
Other than that, it was an easy read, no sex or violence. Not sure if I will continue with the series though.
I almost gave up because the protagonist was just so unlikeable. But then the other characters staged an intervention, and the MC realized she was wrong about everything and so changed her behavior to be less awful.
Completely unrealistic, of course, but it made me able to finish the book.
The series was fine. Weaker than some I've read, but good enough if you want to binge read something.
The Haunted Hotel characters have a certain charm. The plot is okay, but a little less charming than the characters. That the theft this particular jewelry piece can create this much trouble is a bit of a stretch. Still, the book is light hearted and enjoyable. I’ll have to read the next in the series, which is an endorsement.
I have to admit that the main character, Holly, isn’t very likable at first. The writing wasn’t that smooth either. But, Holly is trying to change, and it’s first in the series, so I’m going to try the next in the series because the potential is there to be more fun. Looking forward to next book.
I gave this four stars because I was not sure why Holly was so angry. Leaving a stressful job brings a calmness and getting a great price for her home feels like she should dial down the anger. I'm reading the second book next because I want to cheer on the ghosts.
She is asked to find out who stole the tiara, isn't she??? Everyone seems to think that the ghosts did it. But, I know that ghosts have trouble carrying things!!! i enjoyed this story and recommended the book.
A slow start for me. I had trouble accepting the behavior or the main character. I almost put the book down because her attitude annoyed me so badly. It was a good story line and the ending surprised me.
I really wanted to like this, and even though I thought the writing was subpar, I’ll probably give the author another chance. My biggest problem with this book was that I just did not like the MC.
