"If dark romance with obsession, danger, and just the right touch of chaos is your thing, Ruthless Devotion is a must-read. Aidan is intense, unhinged in the best way, and completely fixated on Maddie—yet somehow, you can’t help falling for him.”-Booksnliftsdiary, Goodreads
"Dark, Twisted, and Addictively Compelling.” – Good Booking Girl, Goodreads
"Maddie is strong, she is smart, and I love her. I’ll be honest I was not sure how Kitty Thomas was gonna get me on team Aiden but she did! I can’t wait to read more from this author!” – Katlyn, Goodreads
📚 I must say it’s been some time since I’ve read one of Kitty Thomas books
I also need to admit the fact that I made a huge error by starting this book because of the fact that it is book two in duet. There were few key things that I was missing by skipping book one…….. but by the time I realized my error I was already too deep down that rabbit hole to turn back.
One of the many things that I enjoy about Kitty Thomas is the fact that her books are always written as a standalone.
Lord where do I Begin? Let me see if I can leave spoiler free review Macy Laine is so innocent and sweet; she doesn’t even have so much as a traffic ticket on her record……. But she has the darkest Fantasies For a virgin. And to make things more interesting, she’s a librarian. A very hot librarian. Macy for some crazy reason decides to keep a drunken promise she made to a man she barely knew from college.
Kitty Thomas decided that Macy’s life wasn’t mess up enough ……. She had her kidnap, and that is how She finds out that she is payment for her best friend’s husband’s Debt
Macy lives in a constant war with herself—the battle between how she supposed to feel and react to thing, versus how she actually feels.
I’m not supposed to want to do this with Colin. I’m not supposed to want to lose my virginity in this way. My mind fights and rails and screams, but my body says yes. Of the two me’s on the battlefield, the real me is what my body wants. My simple, primal desires beneath the lie of everyone else’s story, even beneath the lie of my own story.
Will she be an Unwilling sacrificed? Or will she be, willing participant? Is she living inside her fantasy? Or is she living inside a Horror Story?
4,5 stars. The first one was better. Didn't enjoy too much the Macy's character. Colin, though, it was great. This is described as standalone and could be read before The Proposal, I don't agree with that, because what happens in The Proposal it's what seals Macy's destiny. Due to the polyamorous marriage of her best friend, Livia, to Soren (the official husband), Griffin and Dayne, Colin blackmail them, so Soren gives Macy as a sacrifice to Colin, with rules, and he keeps his mouth close. It's a bit unreal, Macy is a 30 old virgin. Dayne tries to help her, but she refuses. I'm expecting more, another book, because there are a lot of situations unsolved, and kindly ended blanc between the two of them. I just loved the rain scene.
(...)“Tell me you see me. Tell me you’re with me.” I don’t know where that came from. Of all the things to say. No “let me explain”, which might have sounded reasonable. No threats, which would be normal for me. Tell me you see me. Tell me you’re with me. What the fuck? These are impossible things to ask for, like asking Santa for world peace. Something in her expression changes. And then a miracle happens. Somehow those stupid words have shifted things. She doesn’t struggle. She doesn’t scream. She doesn’t pull away. She raises up with the small range of motion I’ve allowed her, and then her mouth is on mine. It’s not some appease your captor kiss. It’s not a kiss of seduction. It’s raw and electric. I respond to her, my hands taking her face into mine, my fingers moving through her hair as I deepen the kiss. I shove the silk up her thigh, stroking her skin until her legs fall open for me, and a small shuddering moan escapes her. “Please,” she breathes. But she’s no longer begging for her life, and taking it is the farthest thing from my mind.
Macy’s voice stops me. “So… I’m not a sacrifice anymore?” I turn back to her. “You’re just… mine.” If she thinks I’m going to let her go… I’m not that man, but I don’t want her to be my prisoner. “Traditionally a sacrifice dies, and you’re still here.”
Macy watches me, and I can practically read her thoughts again. We both know she almost died tonight. I was so close to convincing myself it would be good for her to die, a kindness somehow. But then she saw me. I look away. What is this awful feeling eating away at my gut? Is that guilt? Fucking guilt? I didn’t know I could feel guilt for anything. Is it shame? Again, not something I thought I could feel. “I’m going to take care of the body. Once you get warmed up you should take a hot shower and go to bed. Leave the gown. I’ll get rid of it. It’s evidence.” She nods. “Colin? I wanted someone to see me, too.” “I do see you, Macy.” It’s the only thing that saved her life tonight. And then I leave her because I can’t spend another minute in this uncomfortable moment with all these feelings I don’t know how to feel.(...)
If I could boil it down for you, it’s a captive arranged marriage dark romance with a virgin sacrifice element. I mean… right?!?!?!
The heroine is this kinky nerdy librarian (like LITERALLY), and he’s this dark twisted billionaire who takes her as a sacrifice/payment for a debt that has nothing to do with her. If I ran across the book and someone else had written it I’d be like… um yes please!
Kitty Thomas has done it again! She gave Macy (you remember her from The Proposal, right?)exactly what she needed….even if Macy didn’t know it herself at first. Getting the ARC was such a treat, and leaving an honest review is easy,it was more than worth the wait!
Livia’s bestie has always been a little different, and finding someone that appreciated her uniqueness hadn’t happened yet. Leaving her with an unusual promise to an old friend…. “when we’re both still single at 30,let’s marry eachother”,that kind of promise….. But she really doesn’t want to go through with this sham, she doesn’t even like the freakin’ guy! Until she’s taken and wakes up in a strange bedroom…. With a stranger sitting in a chair, demanding she shows herself to him….because apparently he now owns her!
Kitty gave Macy KVOHEAWTHGWSN with The Sacrifice (Kitty's Version Of Happy Ever After Where The Heroine Gets What She Needs.) and i loved it!
In true Kitty Thomas fashion she has given us a story with so many twists and turns, she throws in some very hot scenes, and the reader gives a big sigh at the end, thinking that was spectacular! We met Macy in The Proposal, sweet little Macy, with her nerdy glasses, and over thinking brain, but she also has fantasies, that are a secret, and then a much bigger secret that she is anxiously waiting to let go of. Is Colin the man for her? Will he help her fulfill her deepest, darkest desires. Kitty always gives us character who give a lot of inner dialogue, they always weighing the pros and cons of themselves and the world around them, and Macy and Colin are definitely two of my favorite characters.
THE SACRIFICE Is available in audio now! You can grab it at Audible and the Apple iTunes Store. It will be exclusive to these two stores for a while due to contract.
Narrated by Jason Clarke and Addison Barnes. Addison is the PERFECT voice for Macy and Jason never disappoints with his warm growly voice!
I've been looking forward to Macy's story ever since she was introduced in The Proposal. Macy is Livia's innocent best friend who finds herself at the mercy of Colin, another character we met in The Proposal. I really loved this story and the way these two seemingly incompatible characters found something in each other that was uniquely suited to them. While this has Kitty's signature brand of darkness, there's a lot of humor that lightened the mood. I enjoyed being privy to Macy's thoughts and ramblings. Colin is a bit more of a dark horse and, at times, I wasn't quite sure of the direction the book was going to take. He is certainly a dark character and not a safe choice, but I couldn't help but root for this couple. Of course, there's kink and heat that you'd expect from a Kitty Thomas book. Overall, I really enjoyed this one and can't wait to see more of these characters!
The Sacrifice is the second book in The Proposal Wedding Duet. Colin and Macy’s story can be easily read as a standalone. But if you want to know about the other characters in this book I highly recommend reading The Proposal.
After I went to bed (@2am) last night I dreamed about the review I would write about The Sacrifice in the morning and wouldn’t you know I can’t remember what I was going to write. :(
I loved reading this book! I would probably say that about any of Kitty Thomas’ books!
This book was fantastic. I couldn’t put it down. Obviously because I stayed up until 2 AM reading it.
Macy is a kinky nerd! I loved her character. Her BFF is Livia from The Proposal Book 1. Colin is the mysterious billionaire anti-hero, a man that you want to hate but can’t. Both Colin and Macy make The Sacrifice one HAWT book to read! I am hoping for more Colin and Macy’s story! This was easily a 5 STAR read for me!
Did you ever make a pack with someone in high school? If you did, did you call on the other person(s) to make good on that pack? Or did they call on you? Well, Macy made a pack with a high school friend. If they both still unmarried when they were 30, they would marry each other. And he came calling on that pack. While Macy goes along with it, she knows that Will isn’t the guy she wants, but he’s the guy that’s there. Until her best friend’s husband (the official husband because Livia has two unofficial ones too. Read The Proposal to find out more about that) shows up at her house and kidnaps her. She wakes up and doesn’t know where she’s at. And the husband will only tell her that she’s “The Sacrifice”.
This is another extremely erotic story by Kitty Thomas. Macy has really dark and very sexy fantasies, but doesn’t share them with anyone. She hasn’t done more than play around with other guys. The guy that she’s set to marry seems so boring compared to her dreams. Then Colin comes in her life. He’s not a good man, but he’s the man that Macy needs.
You can read this without having read The Proposal. I will guarantee that if you finish this one without having read the other, you will pick it up right away. If you have read The Proposal, you’ll want to grab this one quick. You won’t be disappointed.
*I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it. My comments and thoughts are my own.
Well, in classic Kitty style, there were a few “oh wow” moments in this story as unexpected turns happened. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, as this starts out with Macy at the centre of it all. Everything around her is swirling and twirling and out of her control. She feels one way and acts another to keep herself anchored, afraid to engage in the chaos around her. Colin embraces the wildness and rawness that Macy tamps down, but in his own controlled manner. They connect and disconnect in their time together, but those connections are so strong, they both are shocked by it. The connection stays even when all else seems out of control, grounding her, grounding him, with each other. The heat between them in undeniable but it is more than that, as the person she wants to be recognizes the person he is, and they both can’t turn away
In my best Forrest Gump voice “Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.” How true of a statement that is, especially when you pick up a Kitty Thomas book. I’ve read them all and I always think I know what I’m getting when I grab her latest. You would think I would have learned by now.
Take for example The Sacrifice: A dark captive arranged marriage romance. It’s quite a mouthful and I thought very self-explanatory. HAH! Not so fast, buddy. While the dark captive part is understandable, my brow furls over the arranged marriage part. Okaaay. It is set in the same world as The Proposal, which did have a wedding, sort of (Snorts!), so I can get with that bit. But really has me scratching my head is The Sacrifice part. Hmmm. Only one way to find out. *Begins reading*
Well THAT was unexpected. Really, the whole book was very unexpected and unpredictable. I loved Macy’s nerdy rambling side. Colin was an enigma for most the better part of the book for me. What was his motives? His end game? What the heck does The Sacrifice mean?! Color me surprised when that tidbit began to make sense. When I think the whole book begins to make sense. And in true Kitty style, just as I begin to relax and think I’ve got it all sorted out – SURPRISE!
Ya got me Ms. Thomas. And I really did enjoy this box of chocolates.
Stars: 4 I received this book from the author I was not compensated for the book other than the entertainment it provided. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Ms. Thomas has once again written a dark & trippy mind twister. This one pulled me in at the very start & kept me transfixed & trapped in Macy & Colin's world of head games, control, angst, suspense, lust, anger & feelings. As always, Ms. Thomas' writing swirls the reader away making you care about the characters, invested in what has, is & will happen to them; keeps the reader deep in a plot that takes them in unexpected directions but mainly unable to put this one down. Excellent writing with smooth & delightfully skilled & subtle craftmanship that made this reader forget she was reading & instead became completely immersed in the characters emotions, responses, choices, & epiphanies, & unable to put down this wonderful story once I started it.
Fantastic as always. I love the way Kitty Thomas writes, but it makes leaving spoiler free reviews hard, so this one will be vague, but if you've read one Kitty book, you know what your getting yourself into 😏 Without giving away any twists, or fun bits. This book is full of sacrifices and torment and even a little kink. Read it.
Amazing amazing amazing. Kitty keeps putting out outstanding stories and this one delivered! It’s a standalone like all her books but I would still suggest to read The Proposal (you’ll thank me later).
OH MY GODDDDDDD, This book was AMAZING!!!! COLIN IS EVERYTHINGGGGG AND MORE! The beginning was crazy perfect too, really throwing me off, everything was just perfectly written!! Kitty Thomas has yet again brought us another FANTASTIC book!!
Macy was a character from The Proposal, where we met her as Livia's bestie and now we finally get the beginning of her story in this book!! Macy is the sweet, quirky, nerdy librarian with the sexy-cute glasses that has a lot of dark and intense fantasies despite how she appears on the outside all sweet and innocent. Nobody but her best friend knows about what she secretly dreams and fantasies about. Her best friend, Livia seems to be living the perfect life and has everything Macy wishes she could have. She is still single at the age of 30 and never been intimate with a guy, but years ago she made a promise with a friend one drunken night where they both agreed that if they were still single at 30 that they would marry each other... and well, as much as she doesn't like the guy and doesn't want to go through with the wedding.. and is conflicted with what to do, despite her conscience screaming at her to not go through with it. Well, luckily (or I guess you could say unluckily if we are talking about 'in the moment') for her she ends up getting drugged and kidnapped into a stranger's bedroom where she finds herself naked and handcuffed to the bed. A gorgeous, tall, perfect, dark, and mysterious man ends up coming into the room that claims that he owns her now and that she is a payment for a debt apparently!!
She may be a bit scared at first, but little does she know that soon all of her fantasies will come to live and she will get everything she has ever wanted with this mystery man named Colin, her perfect match. Colin shares the same desires that Macy has and really they just fit quite perfectly together, two peas in a pod. Soulmates through and through. Will Colin admit his feelings towards Macy? Will he open his heart up, his heart that he has never once opened for anybody before? Love is so foreign to him, leaving him so confused with what he is feeling... but will he admit what he feels and act towards it? You don't have to read The Proposal before this, but I highly recommend that you do just so that you understand this world a bit more. :) You won't be disappointed with this book and be prepared to finish it in one sitting because trust me, once you start.. you won't be able to stop! I CANNOT wait for the next books in this series!! LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT!!
I am very disappointed with this book. I love the Kitty books because, while quirky and far-fetched, the characters are somehow believable, intelligent, and cohesive. Her "Confort Food" novel really gave me the creeps! Although really weird, somehow it was believable. A weirdo could really act like his character. Most of her books are like that. We get into the heads of the characters and we follow their reasoning and it's coherent. Somehow, her stories are believable in context. This last book comes into play. It makes so little sense, there are so many implausibilities, the main character is so stupid and her thoughts are morinic... As usual in Kitty's novels, we follow the thoughts and reflections of the characters a lot. Here, we only have babbling. In her thoughts, she really looks like an unstable, ignorant and stupid teenager. not naive, just dumb. ex: "I distract myself with thoughts of Colin's jet. [...] this is actually the most lush and biggest jet I've even seen. Okay, so I've never really seen any private jets in person but... I've seen rich people movies. I mean, movies with rich people in them, not movies for rich people. I don't think there are special movies made just for rich people"
duh.
A girl who got kidnapped and worries about the nature of the dishes on the table doesn't make any sense. The excessive repetition of her discomfort and her "abnormal" desires (her own thoughts) are exasperating. I rolled my eyes much too often. And the story spins around. The author has often stated in her FB group that she would like to return to writing paranormal stories. I think it's time she did. This nonsense is not like her. For my part, I will no longer pay for these novels.

Wow, this book was worth the long wait. Their is nothing about this book I would change. I love that Colin is a lone, because only a loner can truly understand another loner. I must say that you can’t read this book too fast, you will that a ha moment in which Macy and Colin are able to truly see each other. I also love how Macy has grown to the woman she wants to be and shows it loud and clear. I have to admit the the Soren might have known along a long that only Colin in his twisted way could only give Macy what’s in her heart and vice versa. Most of all Macy and Colin’s story seems like this is their beginning. I will be looking out for the next book. Above all I am curious as to how Livia will deal with seeing Macy with Colin instead of Will.
Kitty has done it again, what a trip! This book grabs hold of you and doesn't let go. The twists and turns had me ramped up and totally surprised. We first met Macy in The Proposal, the sweet nerdy girl with a secret or two and Kitty certainly done her justice. Colin seemed like a creep to me in his introduction in The Proposal, however in true Kitty fashion she made me want him for my very own. This book can be read as a standalone, you will not be lost reading it first but if you like to read things in order or want some backstory I do highly recommend both The Proposal and The Sacrifice.
We were introduced to both Macy and Colin in The Proposal at separate times. I was hoping for Macy to get her story because she is Livia's innocent best friend and their are some secrets she keeps hidden. Macy has an inner kinky side waiting to be unleashed but hasn't met the right guy. Colin has a dark side to him and is dominating. Meeting Macy has stirred up some mixed emotions. These two are complete opposites, nerdy innocent librarian meets dark dominate business man. However, this attraction seems to connect them and let them see each other for who they truly are. As usual Kitty did an awesome job writing this book and I can't wait for her next book!
I received an Advanced Reader Copy for an honest and voluntary review
🖤Side Note….It’s not necessary to read The Proposal, BUT if you want to know more about certain characters and this particular world, I’d definitely give it a read first 😊🖤
Whew Colin and Macy 🔥🔥 Yes please!! I absolutely loved these two characters ♥️ Macy was very enduring and smart. Colin was definitely a possessive alpha 🖤 Their interactions and dialogue together was absolutely amazing 😍 I was on the edge of my seat, the whole time, just waiting to see what was going to happen next!! What do you do when you’re the sacrifice of something you had nothing to do with?? I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK 🖤💙
Wow!!! What a surprise, honestly I had to double check that I clicked on the right book to read. I had been waiting for this book to release on pins and needles. It totally lived up to all my expectations. I absolutely fell in love with Macy and strangely enough, I fell in love with Colin too. I’d defiantly recommend this book, and would recommend you read the proposal before hand. You can totally read them out of order because they are standalone books but I think reading them in order gives you a better back history.
I am glad Macy got her own story. And I love when books are linked together and you get to read the other characters stories. And even tho this author doesn't usually do virgin MC's it was nice to have one in Macy.
Colin was a very interesting character. He was dark but also caring. And I loved his character. I like that you see all the characters from the previous book as well. And the ending was left a bit open. It wasn't a cliffhanger but it sounds like there may be more in store for these characters. Which makes me so happy and excited!
Macy’s struggle to release herself from society’s views on her sexual cravings was so relatable. Those secret spank bank fantasies that we all have but we would be horrified if they came true….or would we? Collin was as dark and sure of himself and his right to have what he wants as any dominant man could be. I always enjoy Kitty Thomas’s writing. This book felt lighter with more laughter moments and yet still very dark. As always I finished reading this craving more of Macy and Collin. I am hoping we will see them again.
I was grabbed by the first page in this book and it never let go! The building of the story and the characters was perfect. Their journey was far from cliche and was perfect for them. You will know what I mean when you read this book. Not everyone wants or needs the same things in life, but you have to be brave enough to reach out and take a risk to get when you need. While there are no cliff hangers at the end, I still want more of their story, as well as some of the others in their journey.
This was a great book. Macy was quirky and weird and Collin was dark and foreboding. I was curious about Macy in the Proposal and was happy to see she got her own book. This is definitely and interesting story that I haven't seen a lot of. If you like a Kitty book this one won't disappoint. A must read if you enjoyed the first book although you don't have to have read the Proposal to read this book.
