Having studied Fine Art Textiles at Goldsmiths College, London, she then worked as a producer and art director in video and TV production. From there she turned to writing and has now written or contributed to over 20 books on crafts, interiors and textiles, including The Encyclopedia of Stitches (published by New Holland), Vintage Fabric Style, Creating Your Perfect Wedding and Instant Expert Beading. This book was exactly what I was looking for. It is short, simple, and filled with colored pictures of different stitches. It is the perfect beginner embroidery book. It provided just a bit of history, enough to make this craft feel weighty and connected. All the stitches are named, so if you need to go look up more information on YouTube, you know what you’re looking for. It talks about what kinds of stitches are used for what and what types of threads work with what fabrics. There are easy stitches and ones that are more complicated.
