I never expected to see my favorite rock band standing in the office of my high school getting their schedules. Kids my age aren’t known for touring the world and making music for the masses, but Somnolence is.
They welcome me. Raiden takes me in, loves me… it’s like a dream. Until darker forces, nightmares, and their own dark appetites come for me.
This title is in the mature New Adult genre and meant for an audience of 18+ due to triggering situations such as domestic violence and assault, PTSD, reference to sexual assault, sexual situations including MF, MFM, light MM & light FF, profanity and substance abuse.
Ali Lucia Sky is the author of The Powers That Be and Somnolence series. She lives in The Poconos with her husband and a house full of kitty cats. Despite her father's dismay, she’s trying to seduce a squirrel to be her new friend.
She loves laughing, vegan food, and supporting her local coffee shop.
When she isn’t writing or dreaming of new stories, she can be found Googling new places to travel because she suffers from wanderlust.
If you encounter her in the wild, don’t be offended if she should run away. She’s timid with strangers but can be plied with shiny things and pictures of your cat or dog. She’s a weirdo like that.
I didn’t fully know what I was getting into when I started this, but I was so glad I picked up Raiden!
Lilah is just going about her normal life with her friend Vivi and avoiding her abusive father as much as possible when she walks into the front office of her school to see her favorite rock band picking up their school schedules. She gets volunteered to show the guys around and they all instantly click, except for Jonah/Jordan (that will make sense after you read the book) who pushes her away due to past girls hanging around the band. Raiden the lead singer takes up an instant connection to Lilah or as he calls her Lilac. Once the boys find out about Lilah and her home situation they take her under their wings and watch out for her. And as Lilah gets closer to the guys she realizes they aren’t all human. Will Lilah get out from her father’s thumb? What exactly are the boys? What about the boys music career? All of which is answered in the book!
Lilah I felt opened up to the boys very quickly. More quickly than what would be believable. I don’t know if that’s just the way that her character was written or if you could chalk it up to ptsd from everything. She does say that everyone at school knows her situation so she might as well come out with it as soon as she meets them, but still if what was happening to me at home like her I wouldn’t be telling people that I just met about it, especially if it was a band I idolized. It was also pretty fast paced, which I didn’t fully mind as it kept it interesting and kept me wanting to read and it it was slower I think it might have lost my interest. I think it would’ve been interesting to have a few chapters in Raiden’s POV just to get his side of things at least a few times. But with the secret of what paranormal things are going on I see why that wasn’t included. Jumper and Lilah’s relationship was the best one after her and Raiden’s. I loved their brother/sister banter and playfulness, it made the story! They played tons and tons of truth or dare… and towards the last couple games of it I was asking myself if they just didn’t know another game or what cause every free time was spent with that game, but several of the guys were absolutely obsessed with it.
I absolutely cannot wait for Trace’s story next! And to see how adding Raiden’s twin brothers into the mix will go!
I really enjoy Ali Lucia Sky's writing, as she can keep me engaged so I'll read whatever she releases. Poor Lilah, her life isn't the easiest so she's just trying to get through life as a teenager. She never expected to see her favorite band enrolling in her school, and she never ever expected to be the girl to show them around which did make her life interesting that's for sure. She imprints on the lead singer Raiden (and vice versa), and things get even more interesting after that. I don't want to give too much away because for one, there was a me thing or two that kept it from being perfect but I'm having a day so who knows which is why I'm not going to actually reveal it. The best part of the story are the twists of the paranormal variety that kept me engaged because I'm all about the unknown. Anyway, pay attention to the triggers & get ready for an exciting ride that I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Raiden: Somnolence Book 1 by Ali Lucia Sky who brought us The Powers That Be series is an exhilarating read. It is set in high school and the following tropes could be used to describe it: paranormal, rockstar, instalove, trauma, fated lovers.
I loved its fast pace, it's heat, it's mystery and it's rock and roll. It was hard to put down in order to attend to my normal day to day activities, in fact. I've never done my chores so quickly before, LOL!
There are some tough parts to get through, however. The following is a note from the author regarding trigger warnings and a few details on its sexual activities: "domestic violence and assault, PTSD, reference to sexual assault, sexual situations including MF, MFM, light MM & light FF, profanity and substance abuse."
Oh this books gives me mixed feelings, I enjoyed it but some scenarios were a bit odd. Lilac has a difficult background and treated in a cruel way by her parents. She’s asked to show a band around her school when they first start. She becomes good friends with all.She and Raiden are mutually attracted to each other. Jonah is the only band member who’s not quite sure about her. The boys discover about her home environment and become quite protective of her. Over time she realises that they may not be what they seem- i don’t want to spoil this for others as I went it blind and it was a pleasant surprise. Can’t wait for more of this series.

“Raiden had a little bit of everything! Ages since my last ‘rockstars theme’ book and the author did not disappointed. Loved that it was fast pace including yet the story had a full ploy. Poor little Lilah was living a nightmare (even though it was full of ‘abuse’ she had me rolling up my eyes, Disney’s princesses would be shaking with this new damsel in distress *note my sarcasm*). Won’t give more details about her life but come on’ she was close to be become martyr lol. Anyway, when Raiden came to the picture everything changed and went out of control in quite an interesting way. You can expect darkness, mysterious, ‘not everything is what it seems’ vibe, friendship tasted and raw-witty emotions. Yeah, all!!!”
I was really looking forward to reading Raiden and I was not disappointed. I did find that Lilah shares her story with the group a bit too fast, too soon. Having said that I did enjoy the story and I found it hard to put it down. I am now impatiently waiting for Trace’s story. He really deserves his happy ending too.
The novel was well thought out with twists and hurdles that they must overcome together. The budding romance between Raiden and Lilah and the way all of the characters want to protect Lilah is sweet and caring. This book was a great way to start the series and I look forward to Trace’s story next!
The last thing Lilah ever thought she’d see is her favorite rock band, Somnolence, in her high school office picking up their class schedules. They've toured the world, playing to sold out crowds. It becomes her job to show them around the school. They welcome her, especially Raiden, the lead singer. The connection between Lilah and Raiden is immediate. It's like a dream come true until dark forces become evident along with nightmares and dark appetites.
This was my first read by this author and my first rockstar/PNR and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It kept my attention from start to finish and I definitely plan to stick with the series. I highly recommend this read. This is my honest opinion, freely given.
“One day I’m going to save you from your monsters and deliver you from the hell you live in.”
Let me start by saying, don’t read ANY reviews about this book!! There are secrets and twists you do NOT want spoiled. Trust me on this. I’m so very grateful I knew almost nothing about this book except what’s in the blurb. It made the book much more enjoyable.
This book was amazing. I can’t get over how good it was. Raiden and Lilah are incredibly together. I was on pins and needles right to the end. Raiden was so passionate and loving and Lilah just broke my heart.
The other people in the book, the band members (I loved every one of them, even Jonah, who was sometimes a big jerk), the bodyguards (especially Nix), Vivi, they were all so interesting. I can’t wait for future books and plan to read every single one.
I can’t say much more. As I explained, you do not want to know anything except this is an incredible Rockstar Romance that I recommend enthusiastically and completely. I really, truly loved it.
I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. This was a suspenseful story about Lilith, Vivian, Raiden, and the guys of Somnolence. Lilith is a young woman who is being abused by her father. Vivi is her best friend. When Raiden and the rest of the band start classes with them, they know their lives will never be the same. Stalkers, demons and abusive jerks keeps the characters on their toes.

I took a chance on an author I don't know because the Kindle sample pulled me in. The mystery around the guys' real nature didn't really feel like a very heavy thing or a huge deal. I mean, I was wondering what they were, but I wasn't on the edge of my seat with anticipation to find out. My guess was wrong, though. They weren't what I thought they might be (no spoilers 😂).
I thought a little more world-building was necessary, such as why they would be living among humans and not in their own realm. How did they so closely resemble humans or do they have another form -- since their eyes keep changing colour, can the rest of them change, too? Are they immortal, and if so, are the Somnolence guys really as old as they appear or actually much older?
I like how Raiden sees Lilah and immediately recognises something in her. There's no fighting the attraction or pretending or anything like that. Almost immediately the band members find out about her father's abusiveness, which is an open secret in the school. They become protective of her and her life gets better. I also liked that she has a trustworthy bestie (Vivi or Vivian).
The pacing of the story and how it unfolded was overall very well done. Except that I thought Lilah was a bit TSTL because she knew there was a death threat and she was staying indoors to ensure she was protected, but she goes and opens a window?? And it is also not feasible that the attacker would know which window she would open, out of the many windows in the house and get so lucky as to be able to take advantage of that open window at just the right time.
Another TSTL thing was trying to ditch her bodyguards when her life was still in danger. And also posting stuff about herself and the band on social media. I actually thought that was done on purpose, as bait, since all the guys knew about her activities on TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter. But later I realised it hadn't been done to lure out her stalker, when Lilah said the posts had given away their location. But like duh? The band were playing in a concert, it's not like her stalker wouldn't know anyway.
As far as her stalker goes, the way the threats were made -- in the form of orbituaries for Lilah -- was very weird. I don't know that a deranged person would have done it that way and especially telegraphed that they'd kill Lilah on her birthday. Seems like they'd just want Lilah out of the way as soon as possible, rather than announce a date and give her the opportunity to protect herself. It didn't really make a lot of sense.
This book also set up the next two books in the series. The problem is that throughout this book, Vivi and Trace (another band member) were hot and cold with each other and I've already had enough of that in this book, I don't need to read a whole other book full of it. Trace kept pushing Vivi away because he says he doesn't deserve to have a mate or that a mate is not for him. Honestly, I found his actions cowardly and am not really rooting for him.
I want Vivi to be with Levi, her bodyguard, who cherishes her. He saw a good thing and recognised it and went for it. Vivi actually slept with him partly for comfort and partly to make Trace jealous. Plus, at the end of the book there's a huge revelation about Vivi and so it feels like I already know everything, there wasn't any mystery saved for the next book.
Likewise, in this book we hear about Jordan (another band member) meeting Lizzy prior to the events of this book and how she was brutally beaten up by a jealous fan / groupie that Jordan and Trace had slept with before. Jordan seemed to think that he has to keep his distance from Lizzy to protect her, because she was traumatised by the incident. But by the end of the book she has moved out of her parents' place and taken a room in Harrison's house (the band's manager) and she's hanging out with the band again. Although she doesn't make any move towards Jordan, she also doesn't seem inclined to stay away from him and the band and doesn't appear to be afraid of another attack. So it doesn't make sense for Jordan to be so tortured and self-flagellating and to think that he can never be with her again. Their book is book #3 and I'm not intrigued enough by what happened between them to want to read it. Again, not much mystery left. I think the author gave away too much in this book.
I think what I liked most about this book was Lilah's personality. The book is written in first-person, only from Lilah's POV but I never felt a lack of having Raiden's POV because the author included important conversations between them and showed his feelings and thoughts through his actions. I liked that Lilah keeps fighting and isn't defeated by life even though she had such a horrible childhood and horrible father. I liked her openness with the guys and her straightforward honesty. There are no miscommunications in this book because she and Raiden discuss things and lay things out. She even tells him she's proud to be a virgin and doesn't want to give it up for just anybody. That was a breath of fresh air since so many FMCs seem desperate to get rid of their v-cards as if it's the kiss of death to be a virgin in your late teens or early 20s.
I was sad about Bane (Raiden's brother) who fell for Lilah but could not have her because she didn't love him the way she loved Raiden. In this book, there are scenes of exhibitionism and voyeurism. Raiden also shares Lilah with his brother (with her consent) but in the end she decides she only wants Raiden, so poor Bane got left out in the cold. This is why I prefer reverse harem! Don't make the girl choose! 😢
I don't think I'll be reading books #2 and #3 but I might read book #4 as it's about completely different characters.
Spicy scenes were really good. I think the 3.5 rating comes from the fact that I’m old enough to be the main character’s mother and I struggled with the dialogue between the characters at times. Overall a spicy read and I really really liked those parts 😮💨
Definitely a good and smooth read. . I appreciated the world building. Had me hooked from the first chapter. That's how I know I am going to be so invested in the book. I was guessing myself at what the the band's "kind" was. If you like dark read I would say this is a mild one. It's on the darker side but beginner dark. The last few pages had me feeling so bad for this specific character. I'm curious to see what goes on in the next book!
This was my first book by Ali, the blurb had me very intrigued and I'm so glad I read this as I was hooked from the start! A great read, a little bit different, but if you like a PNR with a twist then you should give this a try!
This is one of those books that it's best if you don't know too much about it, so I will only give a brief review, you've gotta try it for yourself!
Lilah has a horrible family life with an abusive father who likes to physically and mentally correct her when she gets out of line - life sucks for her but she just muddles through as best she can with the help of her best friend, Vivi.
Not in a million years did she expect her most favourite rock band to be stood in the school office! The guys of Somnolence are just about to start her school and so Lilah gives them a tour, hitting it off with all the boys except one, but especially with their lead singer Raiden - they have this fantastic connection and she feels like she has known him for years, and quickly starts to feel safe with them.
The boys find out about her homelife and take her under their wing to protect her. Not everything is as it seems though, as she finds out that the boys are not quite as human as they look.
A great read, loved the paranormal twists which were unexpected. There is also plenty of other things going on in the story with Lilah being in danger and them having to figure out who and why. There is a kinky side to the bedroom scenes with a bit of a why choose theme going on and some really hot truth or dare games!
Really looking forward to reading the rest of this series.
This is the first in a new series. Lilah is excited when she sees her favourite rock band in the high school office collecting their schedules, and Lilah is assigned to give the band a tour of the school. This is a well written story which is emotionally charged, dark, raw, gritty, and haunting, with secrets, twists, friendships, suspense, and love. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend. Be aware there may be triggers for some readers due to the sensitive content.
Well that was bad, and yet I finished it. This is a conundrum. Parts of it were legit bad, and parts of it were relatively interesting. I am not the kind who will hesitate much to DNF, I only have so much time, and yet here were are. I finished a book that had 5 exclamation marks on the first page, a book that used "shutter" instead of "shudder" multiple times, a book that explains everything to you like you didn't just fucking read it a couple of pages back, and a book with dialogue stilted enough that I imagine this author is a transcriptionist because bitches gotta be expanding shit. The villains are comical; they might as well all grow moustaches and start twisting them. The adjectives are rampant, and the author has that disease that makes them think they need to vary shit in such a way that we can't just say something, we need to accuse, offer, propose, admit, explain, bitch, argue, declare, clarify, etc. Also: '"I had this dream, and if he ever kisses me in real life how he kissed me in the dream..." I let it trail off.' YES THAT IS GENERALLY WHAT AN ELLIPSIS MEANS AT THE END OF A SENTENCE.
Ahem.
Anyways, I can't even really articulate what it was about this book that prompted me to actually finish it. The writing leans too young, and yet there are sexy bits (though not too many). The trauma these characters experience is just ridiculous. Like, one chick gets regularly shitkicked by her dad, in her underwear for some reason, and CPS just won't believe her even though the school has been documenting it for a while. Another girl is raped by like every male teacher at the school. There is really no need for this. Like truly, you could take those same traumas and crank them down a few notches and not have it affect the story. It's just ridiculous. It doesn't make it dark. It makes it hard to believe, and it makes me roll my eyes.
AND YET I FINISHED IT. So take from that what ye will.
DNF - quit at 75% This started off ok, enough to keep me reading, but then it lost its momentum & just got weird. Too much is happening in dreamscapes (or whatever you want to call it). I also felt this had an identity crisis, it was caught between New Adult & Adult, some immaturity of the characters, being high schoolers, but being overly sexual, even if it’s in dreams & the guys just talking about their past sexcapades, but they are only 18! Didn’t appreciate the voyerism in the dreamscapes either. Won’t be reading from this author again…
At my age (62), life is way too short & my time is too important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.
It’s fair to say I haven’t read many rockstar romances or paranormal romance and definitely not books that contain the two. This book pulled me in from the start and was easy to binge. The characters were intriguing and the plot kept me hooked trying to figure out what would happen next. Though I have to admit the pacing/timeline of the book threw me off a bit. I found myself flipping back to the beginning of the chapter the verify that yes weeks or months had gone by since the previous chapter. It felt jumpy, if that makes sense. I also struggled to FEEL the connection between Raiden & Lilah. It was repeated that they were destined in the stars, it was love at first sight, they just knew ect. but honestly I struggled to feel that connection with them.
I forgot I read this. Sorry NetGalley. I also did not read this twice, is there a way to fix that? Whatever.
It was cringey and kind of crap. Do not recommend. Here are the goodreads updates I do not remember making:
"This first page does not bode well. It contains 5! exclamation marks."
"Oooh supreme cringe. They have known each other for like 12 hours, how the fuck did he develop sufficient feelings to want to write a song for her and then write a song for her all in the same 12 hours?"
Loved this book. Raiden is a hot rockstar...scratch that a hot demon rockstar.
Him and Trace in this book wete amazing. I want them both lol
When reading I kept thinking was they must be vampires... nope I was wrong. They are Demons. And that is actually better than vampires.
I hated how Lilah was treated by her dad. So glad the guys saved her from him. And Vivi is such a good friend. I feel sorry got what happened to her. Neither of them deserved that.
Jumper is so cute and silly. Reminds me of a puppy.
The stalker was insane. Glad that was taken care of.
Lilah is just going about her normal life avoiding her abusive father as much as possible. One day she walks into her school and gets volunteered to show the new guys around to her surprise it ends up being her favorite band. She and the lead singer Raiden click instantly and then things get even more interesting after that. I highly recommend this book to people, and loved it from beginning to end.
Demon rockstars protect abused girl from her father and it turns out that she is also a demon but from the Lilith bloodline. Raiden and his band mates do everything they can to protect Lilah
