Adams Family Saga #24

Family Fortunes

Rate this book
The 1950s are in full swing, and the Adams family is blessed with many new additions. Chinese Lady now has so many grandchildren that even she can sometimes scarcely remember them all. Boots and Sammy are kept up-to-date by the Adams youngsters, some of whom are now working in the family business. But they also welcome newcomers, including the lovely Anneliese, whose German ancestry makes her less than popular with some of her South London neighbours, and Joe and Hortense, newly arrived from the West Indies and working hard for Matt and Rosie on their farm in Kent. Sammy, meanwhile, has trouble with the newly-formed trade union at his factory, and the shadows of the war continue to haunt the family when Felicity's hopes for an operation which will save her sight are threatened by an extraordinary revelation.
But the Adams family is still full of hope and promise for the future.

A good read. Adams family book 24.

In this book, it picks up where the last book left off. December 1953 into 1954. This book covers a year. Some months pass in a few sentences. We still are reading about the Stevens new friends of Polly and Boots, etc. Felicity is hoping that her images mean her sight could make a welcome return. But Anneilese has some disquieting information to pass on about the doctor. We see that Matt and Rosie are trying to help two further West Indians who appear work shy. As usual we see others although very briefly. The comics as there are always those are now Gemma and James. James has made a friend in Cindy Stephens but with memories of Boots and Emily he is getting bossed about.
I miss hearing about the family and their Sunday cricket matches. Ned has recovered a little, but not fully active.
Recommended that you start at the beginning of book one.

This book takes places in the 1950s following the same characters of the series, and I enjoyed the pleasant story and characters. This one features Annalise the German nurse and her family, blinded Felicity who is hoping to go to NYC, and Alice and her Scottish friend Fergus. It mentions some of the original other characters too.

There was quite a big time jump in time between this book and the others I have read recently by the same author. So I was a little puzzled at times. I found the Family trees at the front most useful. These book by Mary Jane Staples are like a soap opera. One book gives you a clear hint where the next is going.
