Mio, stuck with her father's debt, finds herself at a dead-end when she runs into her first love, Yamato Kujo. She's surprised when she learns that he's become a lieutenant for the Yakuza, and he's willing to take on her debt in exchange for her hand in marriage! The time's come for a direct confrontation between Yamato and Mio's ex-boyfriend, Takizawa!! The two argue bitterly about Mio, but what happens when the respective hidden feelings they both harbor gradually go up in smoke?!
Love the whole series but I really did like this one for 2 reasons. Kujo and Takazawa. I love their interactions. I love the interaction Takazawa has with Mio too. But the boys...well they seem to have a spark. Now the other is Shiki...to find out he has a daughter. This manga series is a definite MUST READ. It is very violent and shows erotic scenes as well.
I have only been reading manga for about 4 years and this is one of the best. I love the mangas about the yakuza because I think their back tattoos are beautiful. And that they can be people that support societal rules. If you get a chance, you should read this series.
This is still so sweet, I wish we could've gotten the pregnancy arc right now because they're so cute but I'm ok with it. Loses a star for being a little too goofy sometimes as usual.
4 soft yakuza husbands out of 5 scary yakuza husbands
Yamato is one of best ml out there and FL is chill and understanding! I'm glad that FL’s willing to accept that Yamato has a lot on his plate right now and having children is far down the priority list. Shiki explained it so well to her, having children could be both a weakness and a strength in the life they have.
Furthermore, what a sad situation for Shiki's part. I can feel that he wants to be a great dad to his daughter in any way possible but due to his line of work, he'd rather have her believe that her father is already dead and just support her in the sidelines.
This volume also kinda broke my heart. We can see the ugly truth that some people aren't capable of being loving parents nor guardians of their children is so infuriating. Mio having serious issues with abandonement and parental neglect after the passing of her mother have really shaped the way she grew up. There was not one single scene that wasn't heartbreakingly painful. Neither the flashbacks to her childhood yearning for the parental love from her dad nor the scenes in the present where she is both trying to emotionally overcome the fact that she still wishes her dad would at least see her and the fact that she sees a resemblence to her parents happy relationship with her own and her fear of abandonement when faced with the fact that her dad will never be there for her.
On the side note, I really hate exes showing up and thinking they know better than the present one. The only thing that exes bring is misunderstanding and headache.
The fact I read volume 1 to 7 in one day says enough about the pacing. The story is interesting and the characters feel really grounded and you are rooting for (most of) them.
Still despite my somewhat love for yakuza type stories (more yankees) I think I will forget everything about this story in about 6 months. It's not bad at all yet... there is something missing. Maybe because every thing is a bit too subtle? The humour, the story, even the love between the main characters? Which seems outrageous to say because their love is very strong. It is also based on both characters knowing in what kind of world they are living in.
But still, maybe I need some drama in these kinds of yakuza type stories. Which is a bit of a shame.
More of a 3.5 star rating; I’m not sure how I feel about Yamato and Takizawa’s “friendship” since I don’t trust Takizawa when it comes to Mio, however, I do like how amusing their dynamic is. It also really interesting, yet sad, to learn about Shiki’s past and learning more about Mio’s father. I’m curious to see how things go in the next volume or 2, since there seems to be lots of anticipation for a grand attack (or war?) that Yamato and his organization may face.
