Feeling beautiful in and out is important. While we speak so much of our outer beauty, seldom we give any importance to what we're putting inside of us, lathering ourselves with harsh chemicals on daily basis and thinking that they will make us feel good. From time immemorial the timeless Ayurvedic rituals have helped many people but with advancement of our society we're losing touch with nature. Beauty Unbottled is an attempt to bring back those good old Ayurvedic tactics to heal ourselves inside out.

This book is a guide that takes us through ancient ayurvedic rituals and foods that will give a boost to our inner and outer beauty. A book that contains detailed discussion and DIYs to match every beauty problem. What I really like about this book is it's very comprehensive and detail oriented with having solutions for almost every problem. The writing style is good and lucid so everyone can read and understand without facing much difficulty. However to find some of the ingredients mentioned can be a challenge for some people. It has separate sections for different problems related to skin, hair and other areas of body, which really helped me to focus on particular topics I am concerned about. Some chapters does have assessment so this book has a really holistic approach to make us understand our concerns and then work on it.

To top it all the book finishes off with Yoga and Pranayam. I feel blessed to pick up this book, because it's a treasure of beauty secrets and rituals but there's no way to prove the veracity of every ritual. Some do work wonders on the other hand some may cause disaster. Recommended to all the people who loves taking care of themselves or want to take care of themselves.

Most solutions to our health ailments lie in our kitchen. In our relentless pursuit towards seeking acceptance from foreigners whom we have kept at a very high pedastal , we have forgotten our roots ,the most ancient form of science.

The author has done an outstanding job in researching about Ayurveda and how it is so useful in different type of issues that an individual faces ranging from health and skin related problems, diet regimes , mental and physical fitness and so on. For rigid veggies like me who usually don't consume allopathic medicine due to animal produce in them the vegan ways provided by the writer in this splendid work provides a respite.

The cover is serene and title couldn't have been more appropriate. The book is really well structured and highly organised. All the contents are written in a clear , concise and brief manner taking care of all little aspects of communication. Also writer has employed Sanskrit words, the mother of all languages which bring us closer to our own self and culture. This is a kind of book which every individual should have and should be referred and re-read whenever they face any issue. Atleast thats what I am going to do.

Overall a flawless work and very highly recommended.

Treating ailments through home remedies from the ingredients that we find in our kitchen has been traditionally followed since centuries, while this knowledge is getting diminished day by day, these remedies still prove to work effectively.

Beauty Unbottled is a unique DIY guide on how to use herbs and plants to turn our kitchen into a beauty lab. Kavita Khosa, the founder of the award-winning skin care brand Pure, brings to this book her years of experience in Ayurveda and expertise as an organic cosmetic science formulator.

The book discusses the skin, the reasons behind skin ailments in ayurvedic terminology and recipes, routines and rituals for skin concerns. Not just skin, the book talks about hair issues, hair and scalp care, skinfoods for super skin and inner beauty rituals.

It's a brilliant book, a guide to keep handy, that's effective, beneficial and so well- described that it's a genuine beauty packed on paper. The book cover is as elegant as the content inside, and the book is a treasure to cherish and utilize.

I myself have been suffering from acne from past 10 years now. I tried everything- from going to the doctors to stop eating junk food but there was no cure.

So when I came across this book, I thought of giving Ayurveda a try. Kavita Khosa is the founder of @purearth which focuses on a healthy skin through Ayurvedic recipes and rituals.

The book is divided into 5 parts and you’ll find tons of helpful recipes to a glowing skin or healthy hair. The book will also give you a brief knowledge of how your skin reacts to different ingredients and everything else you need to know about the inner processes of your cells.

I liked the concept of the book. I’ve marked a few of the DIY recipes to try on my acne prone skin and I’m looking forward to keeping this book as my go to skin care.

Beauty Unbottled by Kavita Khosa is a hand book or rather I would say a book of recipes for potions and tonics all things ayurvedic. The book is divided into five parts and one of those parts being inner beauty.
This one reads like an old grandma's cook book, rich with love and warmth and a box full of knowledge really. As soon as I hit puberty, I have had this very oily skin almost always prone to acnes, and no matter what medicine or what lotion I tried, it was always there still persistent. And when none of those worked, my mom decided let us try home made products and Honey with Tomato pulp worked wonders. Ever since then I have leaned more towards Ayurveda, no matter what the problem. And this book has just strengthened resolve of mine. This book is going to be timeless for me, I mean this one is never going to get too old to read and practice again. The products mentioned to make a concoction are easily available, and the process is really very hassle free. The part that really won me over was the Inner Beauty one. I love the fact that the writer is of the mindset that beauty comes from within and has listed pranayamas and yogasanas to practice and preach beauty within self.
Beauty Unbottled is a book which is a proper mixture of scientific theories and remedies as it is with it's philosophy or rather the musing part, and it also ventures and explores the connection between Ayurveda and Unani medicines.
All in all, this book is a step put forward in going back to the future from a world where there are too many chemical products present in today's times.
One thing that did not work for me personally as a reader was going back and forth to the glossary to find out some meanings of the words, but that is just me this opinion can vary among the greater population.
I am definitely going to try some of these recipes for remedies mentioned and who knows probably even share the experience latter on.
Will recommend it to all of the people out there. This one is for everybody.

I love this book alot. I love the way author penned out the things in a simple and lucid manner. This book contains so many DIY to nurture your skin and body naturally.

This book basically divides into five section. Each section is so good like few i'll try too. Specially that under eye mask , lip care techniques etc.

Author has used literally the basic ingredients and usually you get all the ingredients in your kitchen to made things like cream , serum etc.

Kitchen has always been the place where we can find all the medicinal ingredients to cure and believe me after reading this book , you will definitely understand the real importance of Indian kitchen and natural herbs and shrubs.

One point I literally want to convey , just firstly go to the glossary of the book before dive in reading. Because there are some terms which i found difficult as author use sanskrit words that's why go through it before . Rest was easier to understand for me as i am a biology student.

Overall this book is filled with knowledge and for me it's such an intriguing read.
I think whenever I suffer from any skin problem i ll probably go through this book again and again. It's a best guide book .

You will get all the home remedies for all the skin type as well as for hair .

Such type of books are long lasting and very useful.
Literally thankyou to the author and publishers for this wonderful book 📖❣️

Cover of the book is quite simple and sober . Completely suitable to the content.

Overall i definitely RECOMMENDED ❤️

Growing up I have been a victim of all the acne and other skin related problems. I used to take allopathic medications and consult dermatologists but in the end what worked for me was a clean and healthy diet and home remedies that enhanced my digestive system which led to a clear skin 😍

My grandma used to champion hair oil massages but with passing time and increasing responsibilities and her not being there with us anymore, all that routine took a hit and now I'm facing serious hair problems!

When I read the blurb of this, i grabbed it at once. Reading the book took me for a ride to my childhood with my grandma telling me the benefits of the natural remedies and the long term effects they have on our body.

It was like reading a time capsule, only with e detailed note and instructions of the do's and don'ts and the how's and when's!

Applying Ayurvedic treatment demands patience and consistency and that's why it has been losing it's essence in this modern age which is only running short on time or life for that matter 🙄

This book is Pandora's box of everything that you need to take care of your inner and outer beauty 😍

I'm definitely going to try the recipes shared in this book and keep it as a prized possession for my future ✨

Beauty Unbottled. This title really made me think deeply. And I have started to read. Incredibly I found the secret to beauty has been embedded in these Ayurvedic recipes.

All the secrets/recipes that have been written in this book are familiar and simple to follow. But we are avoided blindly following. In this book, the author has evidently described all the adequate information about skincare and how to avoid skin problems and rescue your skin from chemical cosmetics.

We have all forgotten our ancient Ayurvedic solution to all our health problems and running behind the medicine. The author has vibrantly explained the fact from the modern scientific perspective.

And the exact order to do a skincare routine has also been explained in this book. While reading this book I encountered most of the things we are doing nowadays wrong. The ancient Ayurvedic beauty secrets cocktail of skincare hygienically explained.

The language is rational. The intention of this book is almighty Ayurveda. I recommend this book to all.

Book Name -: Beauty Unbottled
Writer -: Kavita Khosa
Genre - Health & Fitness

Short Summary -: In this fast paced modern age, people don't have much time for their body and themselves. People always try to do something simple and effective for their body. They try DIYs and follow easy tips and tricks. This book exactly follow that path and showcase simple , effective, natural DIYs for a healthy skin via the knowledge of ayurved. The book is divided into 5 different sections each section share tons of information about our body and also how can be take care of it. Author has shared easier and natural solutions for a better skin. She has used the simplest of ingredients for the remedies and shared all the knowledge related to it in this book.

Read the book to get all the knowledge about a healthy skin!

Things I liked -:

1. Presentation -: I've to tell you this i truly loved the presentation of each topic. Author has described each topic in a systematic way that make it really easy to understand about each terms. She has even tried to describe hard biology related terms in the simplest way possible although I'd say I'd be a bit hard for a non medical guy to totally understand those terms but still the way author has described the terms you'll get most of it and understand what the writer is trying to explain and that's one of the thing i really liked.

2. The Remedies -: So let me tell you something I've not read many DIY books but i know one thing many times DIYs have confusion items and ingredients for the remedies or solution but here in this book Author only used the easily available items for the remedies which most of us can actually find or afford to find easily and also the way author has explained the ayurvedic terms with it eg. Like why honey is beneficial for a healthy skin, etc. I just found it truly informative.

3. The Author has also used many Sankrit phases in the book. As ayurved is based on ancient Indian tradition and culture. The ancient Vaidhya(Doctors) had tried to explain many remedies in their phrases and that's why author had shared those phrases with each of the different topic with a explanation.

4. The language used in the book was also very simple and easy to understand and blend in.

Things I didn't liked -:

1. This is just my guess but i think some people may find those sanskrit terms confusing. But for me this wasn't the case.

My Opinion -: Overall this was a seriously good book for a healthy, better and a beautiful skin and body. Author has systematically presented and described the different terms of Ayurved and how we can use them in simple ways get rid of our beauty problems. Not only that the book shared detailed & deep knowledge about our human body.
Definitely recommend.

Rating -: 4.5/5 🌟

It is natural that many of us want to enhance our health and beauty. Beauty and health care products are abundant in the market. Apart from being expensive one is not sure about what goes into those products and how suitable they will be for us!
So, here is a book that will make you feel comfortable by helping you in getting to know your body type and guide you to prepare the best beauty products right in the comfort of your home with natural ingredients.
Kavita Khosa’s book talks about the timeless ayurvedic recipes and rituals that have long been forgotten.
The book has 5 chapters and each one of them not only talks about making the products but also explains the science around it. For example, the first chapter on skin care explains the anatomy of the skin, its functions, how to find the body constituency, etc. Then comes the details on how to prepare and store the recipes. Every product has a ‘what to expect’ which tells you how you might feel as soon as the product is applied, etc. This gives an all-around knowledge of the product/subject.
Apart from just recipes for various products, it also talks about eating right, making friends with fats, and the things beyond Botanics.
The section on inner beauty rituals talks about – Alternative modalities like Unani etc,Ashokarishta and Yoga,Pranayam and A-beauty talks about the subjects that go hand in hand with ayurvedic beauty or rather, a way to enhance it.
The book ends with a chapter on vegan-friendly alternatives, reference resources, an Ayurvedic glossary, and a general glossary and bibliography.
The Ayurvedic ingredients have been given their botanical name as well making them easy to procure.Everything from cleansers, toners, face masks, foundation, and even sunscreen have been dealt with in this book making it a treasure trove of knowledge!
This book is a good guide, especially for women and all those who want a better understanding of beauty treatments from home and home remedies.
It helps you celebrate beauty by giving a holistic approach to the subject and teaches you to make your beauty care products at home using natural and effective ingredients.
In addition to this, it also helps one get to know the body type and the doshas thereby giving the reader a better insight into what will work better for them.
In all, a good handbook that combines age-old wisdom with modern ideas based on your body constitution and one that we can go back to concoct our potions and lotions!

BEAUTY UNBOTTLED: timeless ayurvedic recipies & rituals
by
Kavita Khosa (founder @purearth)
@penguinindia
___
a unique #diy guide on how to use herbs & plants to turn your kitchen into a beauty lab.
This pandora box of everything "ayurvedic" under the sun is systematically divided into 5 parts;
- skin care
- hair & scalp care
- makeup
- skinfoods
- inner beauty rituals.
___
This book clubs science (the how & why) & ayurveda (rituals/solution) together. It taught me, skincare is much more than what meets the eye. A good skincare routine demands discipline, finding out your problem areas & then working on them.
Each section is diligently explained with questions one needs to ask & then the rituals are given for your problems. I found out my dosha & the routine clock i need to follow to heal it.
There are loads of picture/ illustrations/ tables to make the seepage if information as easy as possible.
A ton of recipies are given alongwith the rituals. While i was aware of few things like multani mitti, sandalwood powder, turmeric, besan for skincare, others were new to me. Here the resource handbook & ayurveda glossary at the end of the book are really helpful.
Also skincare doesnot mean only the face (& neck) but it includes oral, eye, lip & body care as well. Similarly hair care includes scalp care too.
The section on makeup, how to make & apply it was very interesting as i had no prior knowledge about it before, except the kajal.
Skin super foods, amla, ghee, curd, buttermilk, neem, honey, triphala etc & which should be taken in which season, was a familiar section for me personally with my roots/ grand & great- grandparents having imparted their wisdom in my growing up years. Nonetheless it added a humongous amt. to my knowledge.
It is really helpful to know beauty doesnot only come from applying creams & masks but also through disciplining the body, following rituals, adapting according to seasons & also from what we put inside our system.
Also, anything ayurvedic cannot be complete without emphasis on yoga. Yoga is really a boon for both the body & the mind & this book is a complete guide for nourishing, celebrating yourself inside- out without use of any chemicals or cruelty to animals kindof stuff.

Are you looking to get healthy skin and hair without using chemicals?

If yes, Beauty Unbottled is for you. The book is your gateway to learning about A-beauty (ayurvedic beauty) secrets, remedies, and rituals. It is divided into five parts: skin care, hair & scalp care, make-up, skinfoods, and inner beauty rituals. Each section is packed with A-beauty science, remedies, myth-busting and truth-revealing content.

👉 The book is systematically structured and informative. The writing style is simple and straightforward, which suits the type of content being written. It helps in understanding science easily.

👉 It is written by the founder of @pureearth, and to my shock, the book’s intent is not promotional. As I have read many books directed at promoting products and/or authors, I do not find vigorous promotion in this one. The ingredients mentioned in the book are all available in your kitchen, and that is what I liked the most.

👉 There is one assessment in the book that lets you know about your ‘Skin Dosha’. Moreover, the book addresses various health and beauty problems, their causes, and remedies. (Slide )

👉 It offers numerous solutions to your problems according to your body type. Further, from making your own eyeshadow to maintaining your inner health via various techniques, this book has it all.

👉 I liked the cover, title, and overall representation and flow.

👉 There is only one point where I am a bit disappointed when the author addressed the reader as ‘Girls’. This is a book meant to be read by all. Everyone wants good skin, hair, and health, so why limit it to one gender?

👉 The book offers vegan options for those who are comfortable with them. It also guides us to read and understand labels. The DIY guide sounds super fun if you are someone who likes to experiment with different ingredients.

My Reading Journey
While reading this book, it dawned on me how wonderful Ayurveda is, and the solution to every problem is hidden in our kitchen. This book has inspired me to read more on the subject and restart my habit of reading and researching Ayurveda.

Recommend?
YES! Everyone who wants healthy skin, scalp, hair, and body should try this book. Take it with you and share the word about Ayurveda with the world. But, start with yourself.

Beauty Unbottled: Timeless Ayurvedic Rituals & Recipes penned by Kavita Khosa.

Pages- 335

Language - English and Easy to understand.

Genre- Lifestyle and personal style guides.

About Author- She is the founder and CEO of Purearth, award-winning Ayurvedic skincare, and wellness brand.

This book is divided into five parts-

1- Skin Care

2- Kesha Vignan - Hair and scalp care.

3- Wake up for make-up.

4- Skinfoods for super skin.

5- Inner beauty rituals.

In this book, the author has described her knowledge of Ayurveda. In the first part of this book, a lot of detail has been told about the skin. It has also been told that the skin problems that we have, why they happen, and due to which they happen. What mistakes do we make, due to which we have to face these diseases? And then at the same time, she also told us what are the remedies in Ayurveda, and she shared them with us in considerable detail. Similarly, she has also told about hair problems in considerable detail. It has also been explained why we have hair problems and its remedies have also been explained in considerable detail. She has also explained Ayurvedic makeup and skin foods in this book which are very beneficial for our super skin. I think this book is very beneficial for women. If we read it very carefully, then we can get a lot from it. There are a lot of recipes in this, which if you try will be very beneficial for you. I was struggling with hair and skin problems like hair fall, dandruff, grey hair, pimples, and dry skin for many years, but after reading this book, I got a lot of relief and solutions to my problems. I also saw some of its Ayurvedic remedies which I liked very much. We indeed use chemical-laden creams in our daily life. If instead of that we use Ayurveda in our life, then we have many benefits and we will also be saved from side effects.

I found this book relatively ample like a grandmother's recipe very useful.

Making DIYs for morning and night skincare for myself or my family has always been something that I love doing. I believe in natural remedies rather than high on the chemical product(s) because the skin type of my family is ultra sensitive so we are extremely cautious when it's about applying something to our skin. And from here I landed on this book and I truly loved this book.

The book is written in a very systematic and easy manner. It has all the remedies that will help your skin glow and get healthy. I have tried them personally and after two weeks I could actually realize the difference. And you need to have a healthy diet alongside the remedy. If I talk about the contents of the book which consists of five sections: skin care, hair, and scalp care, wake up for makeup skinfoods for super skin, and inner beauty rituals.

Believing in ayurvedic medicine or remedies was very difficult initially. But after applying and giving a try to some of the methods I found that Ayurveda has the solution to all the problems at least for your skin and hair. Along with the remedies and process to apply, you will also gain knowledge about everything and has some interesting fun facts too. There is an ayurvedic clock that tells us the best time of the day to eat, sleep, work, play and rest.

Let me share one recipe with you all that I marked in the book. It is an eye serum made with everything easily available

Ingredients
2 tablespoons of freshly peeled and grated cucumber
2 tablespoons of freshly peeled and grated aloe vera
1/2 teaspoon of glycerine

How to make
Mix, mash and strain the cucumber and aloe
Add glycerine and mix well

This can be refrigerated for about 4-5 days

Try this out and you gonna see the results. Make sure you apply for seven days.

This book is a must to read for everyone.

Beauty is a fragile gift & nobody can understand it better than females, not because it is an compulsion but everyone has their own definition of the beauty. It is a very straight forward concept but in the modern days with uprising of many cosmetics & entertainment industry, the concept of beauty has been modified & presented with complexity. Everyone wants to look good but aren't satisfied with the products due to their short impact & long lasting damage.

'Beauty Unbottled' is a must read by everyone especially by female folk. I am someone who doesn't prefer applying any cosmetics but has firm belief in home remedies & ayurveda. Thus this book proved to be perfect for me. The writer's experience is clearly visible in the content of the book. Infact when someone reads the remedies, readers can trust it. This is the beauty of our ancient Ayurveda that has constantly won the trust of people with it's result & the Author has just taken one more step ahead to spread the essence of it through Literature.

As the content is reliable & penned down with research & experience, it has a potential to act as a guide for all. I would suggest everyone to go for this book as spending on a valuable resource one time is always better than spending every month with a constant fear of beauty damage.
The only suggestion that I have is, the language could have been much easier so that maximum number of readers could understand correctly.
This book also made me nostalgic as the content of the book closely resonated with my Grandma's beauty hacks.

Overall it was worth to spend time on this book.

When I first saw this book, my first reaction was, "nope, not for me". But, then something inside me forced me to take a double take on it. After much consideration, I thought of giving it a try - and, I'm glad that I did!

So, apart from it belonging to a genre completely out of my comfort zone, it also is a book which not only demands attention while reading it, but discipline and practical application of all the rituals and solutions.

Me, belonging to this modern automated world ("choosing convenience over conscious consumption"), was obviously very reluctant about it at first - to be pushed to make an effort to change my lifestyle. It indeed takes great effort and time to make even the smallest of changes in life, but it doesn't harm to give it a try.

So, I did. I went through this book, picked and highlighted the points which seemed relevant to me (like my skin type and all), and have made notes out of it to be referred again and again.

I can't guarantee its effectiveness, because I'm yet to fully practice what was taught. But, the author has lots of authenticity and a company to her name, so I trust her enough to give those a try.

For lazy people like me, who just enjoy watching DIY tutorials, and not apply it irl, it's definitely a lot of task to be performed to see the effectiveness. I guess I'm gonna pick up few things from her brand where the effort from my end would be to apply it on the right places at the right time lol.

Jokes apart, if you're looking for a guide to achieve a perfect lifestyle- being practiced since generations, and giving effective results- I'd definitely recommend it for you.

‘Ayurveda was a daily way of growing up in India. Looking back, I realise how effortlessly complete and one I have always felt with the universe. Surrendering to the mystic forces, shaping the warp and weft in the fabric of my unconsciousness- I was in tune with the rhythm of the sun, the moon and the stars’.

Book Review: Beauty Unbottled

Genre: Health and Fitness

Author: Kavita Khosa

Publisher: Penguin India

My Ratings: 4/5 ⭐️

My Review: This book revolves around Ayurveda, Beauty, Scientific theories and Remedies. The book is divided into 5 parts and you will find plenty of helpful recipes to a glowing skin or healthy hair. It is a one-stop self-help guide despite the gender. I really like the author’s mindset that beauty comes from within and has also listed many Pranayamas and Yogasanas to practice and preach beauty from within. It is a step for going back from using the chemical products and contains many DIYs to nurture your skin and body, naturally. In India, it is believed that kitchen is the place to find all medicinal ingredients and this book has very well portrayed the importance of natural herbs and shrubs used in Indian kitchens. Also, cover of the book is simple yet sober with a vibrant colour. The title goes well with the plot. It really helped in separating myths and truths. The author, Kavita Khosa is the founder of an award-winning skin care brand named Purearth. I highly recommend this book as this book is a treasure to cherish and simultaneously utilise effectively.
