In the three years since Project Dawn disbanded, Zack and Ace continue to fight the good fight. Now civilians, their squad--Circe's Recruits--works for a private organization bent on cleaning up the mess left in its wake. Pearson Labs continues to create Circs, people who have been genetically changed. When needed, these Circs take on an altered form neither man nor animal, but something in between. Unlike Zack and Ace's squad, the Circs coming out of Pearson Labs aren't sane.
Zack and Ace have been dancing around their "just friends" relationship for years. Being Circ means unavoidable intimacy when the mating heat strikes, and it's putting a strain on their friendship. They're finally nearing an understanding about what they truly mean to each other when they're stunned by Kelly, the woman they've been lusting after for years. Suddenly she's available to both in a way she's never been before. Lust and love confuse the issue, until wounded emotions pull the threesome apart and Kelly is captured by the enemy. Can Zack and Ace come to grips with their differences in time to save Kelly, or will their difficulties lose them the loves of their lives?

It was okay, and honestly if it didn't try so hard with the cheesy humor and ridiculous stereotype jokes I would have rated it 3 stars, but couldn't as it was. Nice triangle action with Zack, Ace, and Kelly's mating heat.
This was more a 3.5, almost 4 but not quite probably because of the length. A longer book would have allowed better character development for Zack and Ace and their relationship. As it is, when the book begins, the two genetically-enhanced super soldiers have already been doing each other - out of necessity. the usual excuse is used - they are a group of male super soldiers and there were no females so when they're in their mating frenzy, they are forced to turn to each other.
That was how Zack And Ace got together but this is only given in the narrative here and there. Zack has been emotionally-involved since the start but not Ace. He was straight and is uncomfortable with having to turn to another male. Slowly, though, his feelings for Zack are changing and this is where I wished I had a longer book to enjoy this. Instead, a female gets introduced so this ends up an MMF menage. Again, I felt the inclusion of the female Kelly, spoilt the story somewhat. Zack and Ace's relationship was engaging enough for me.
This book reminded me of a Carol Lynne story - a group of guys doing each other and tossing in a couple of women so it's one big happy family. This is definitely going to be a series coz it ends with one of the other men, Derrick, on the scent of the female that rescued Kelly and got shot in the process. I'm not planning to buy that next installment as I've decided when it comes to MM romances, I don't want a female mixed up in it.
This was a pretty good story. I liked the characters and enjoyed the story. I didn't read the first book in the series, this is the first book in the series that I've read. Since each story is based around a different couple, I didn't feel that it was an issue when reading this book.
Kelly is an assistant to Doc (the human that helps Circe’s Recruits). Her mother was a doctor that worked for the labs that created the Circs. She's known Doc since she was a child and he's helped her with an "illness" of hers but it seems to be getting worse. Especially when she's around Ace and Zack, two Circs that she's highly attracted to.
Zack and Ace are both Circs and have been best friends for years. They were in the military and both underwent treatments in a lab to become and enhanced human, giving them extra abilities for missions. This was years ago and there have been unexpected consequences of the change. One of these is that Circs have an occasional "mating heat" and it can only be satisfied by another Circ. Since their team is all males and there was no female Circs they knew of....well you get the picture. Zack and Ace's beasts felt drawn to each other. This isn't bad for Zack because he's always been bi-sexual and attracted to Ace. Ace was raised by a homo-phoebe father and has trouble getting his head around being with Zack. Especially when he starts having feelings for Zack as more than friends. So things are touchy at times but the pair still make a hell of a team.
We start out with Zack and Ace on a mission. There are some issues and both come back to base hurt. Kelly is upset by their injuries and tries to help. During this time she starts feeling weird and worries that her "illness" is escalating. After making sure Zack and Ace will be alright, she goes to Doc and he checks her out. He ends up telling her that she's actually a Circ as well and she's coming in to her maturation, meaning she'll change for the first time very soon. With the attraction and strong feelings between Kelly, Zack and Ace it seems pretty much a given that she'll have them both as mates. She goes home to think about what she's learned. In the mean time, Zack and Ace start feeling a little more comfortable in their relationship, Ace actually showing some attention to Zack outside of the mating heat. When they find out about Kelly's true nature, they agree not to fight over her but to both mate her.
Kelly's change comes on quickly and with it a mating heat. Zack and Ace rush to be with her and they come together as a trio. There is sex in shifted form, but the shifted form is just a bigger humanoid form (with claws and teeth and differences in coloring) and all three are in that form when having sex so it didn't seem weird or anything. Things are going pretty well and it's love all around until Ace says something to Kelly that Zack takes the wrong way and Zack takes off for a bit. He comes back but things between him and Ace aren't the same, causing a strain between all three of them. Kelly loves both her mates and isn't satisfied with the strained relationship and puts her foot down, insisting that the two men work through their issues. They do but as they're doing this, Kelly pulls a TSTL move and gets herself caught by the jerks working for the lab the Circs were created in. Fortunately for her, a doctor at the lab that didn't like what was going on, makes a risky move and helps her escape. Kelly's reunited with her mates and with some happy news to boot. All happily in love (and not afraid to show it) they start their HEA.
This was a pretty good story. I liked all three of the main characters (although Kelly shocked me with her TSTL move, the rest of the time she seemed relatively intelligent). Overall it was an enjoyable story. It contained a setup for the next book, between the female Dr. that helped Kelly escape and Derrick (one of the Circs). I'll probably read more of the series as I'd like to see what happens with Derrick and the Dr. :D
Read May 2023 3.5 stars = good, but unlikely to be reread
An easy-breezy PNR romance with some action, and a lot of smutty sex. (MF, MMF, MM)
A short novella where everything happens quickly and easily. There's no realism, just suspend your disbelief and enjoy. It was entertaining, but a longer, more detailed story would've been preferred.
Book 2 continues the story of 5 men who are part beast/part man. They can shift into their beast form at will. Once a month. they go through a mating heat and have to mate with their kind. Formerly, it was just men. Now they're finding female mates, and the team dynamics are changing as the series continues.
✦ Circe’s Recruits, the last surviving sane members of the now-defunct Project Dawn. ✦ Project Dawn -- a secret program designed to create the world’s first supersoldiers.
Villains: Elliot Pearl - mad scientist of Pearson labs. The PPA - Pearson Labs’ security. Simon Dunn - A PPA agent and a rapist. Has a yet unknown agenda.
MCs: Ace Two Bears & Zack English Kelly Malloy - Doc's personal assistant
Kelly: Her mother was infected with the Circ formula virus. Starting at puberty, Kelly got regular shots to suppress the Circe serum. She learns the truth about herself when her body starts rejecting the blockers. Her beast is ready to come out and claim her men. At the end, .
Zack: The only bisexual team member. The easygoing, friendly partner. The one who took more of Ace’s crap than anyone on the team. The gentle giant who stirred Kelly’s need to protect, but who could turn into a dominating beast in the bedroom.
Ace: A straight man who loves and desires only Zach. He struggled with his feelings for Zach, because of how his dad raised him.
“You might as well be dead if you’ve kissed a guy where I come from. You didn’t cry in my family. Didn’t show love or affection for anyone. Mom took off when I was three. Dad was an asshole,” he said bluntly. “If you weren’t tough, rock solid, he wanted nothing to do with you.
Kelly makes a TSTL decision at the end, that lands her in the hands of the PPA and at Pearson Labs. Sabrina (biochemist/mole) at P.L., rescues her and takes her to safety. Sabrina will be the FMC in the next book.
🇲🇾 🇹🇭🇴🇺🇬🇭🇹🇸: While Kelly was sweet and a great addition to the relationship, it was Zack & Ace who I liked best. Seeing them go from friends who have sex, to mates in-love, was what made this a good read.
There were misunderstandings between Z & A for a while, which made sense. These are two tough guys, who aren't used to opening up and sharing their feelings. Ace did a good job of hiding his insecurities. Zack was very hurt when he thought that Ace only wanted to be with Kelly. He leaves, crashes his vehicle, and has a run-in with a Circ and the PPA.
It took Kelly sending them off by themselves to deal with their issues, that finally caused them to talk and resolve the problems between them.
🔥 With a steamy MM sex scene! 🥵
❤️ “I love you, Zack. At first, we were brothers-in-arms. Then we were Circe’s Recruits together. You’ve always been my best friend, even when I didn’t deserve it.”
🤢 The sex scenes with Kelly were pornier than the ones where Z & A were by themselves. That's one of the reasons why I enjoyed the MM sex scenes better.
The overaching plot involving Pearson Labs continues in book 3.
🤔 I'm very curious to learn if McKinley, who works for P.L., is a mole as well. 🤔 And to learn more about the P.L. breeding program.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Okay here is the thing about these books. The concept of the series in my opinion is a great idea. I can see these books being so much more then what they are. Now with that said, the book was still pretty good. I liked Zack and Ace in the first book so it was nice to get to know them better. There were aspects in their relationship that made me uncomfortable to be honest for example Zack always had feelings for Ace but the only time he could be with him in the past was when his beast forced Ace's to accept his. I'm sorry am I the only one who saw issue with that statement? Other then that the relationship between Zack and Ace was almost sweet. To be honest the girl in my opinion i didn't really like she didn't add anything to the relationship hell I can't even remeber her name. I could have done without her in my opinion she just messed up things between my boys just when they'd finally got it together. I'd recomend reading this one it was good the my opinion the characters in this one had more depth to them then they did in the last I do wish there was more action but hey you can't have everything.
This was such a good book. You have two men who are in love with the same woman. The plot line is great and is such a wonderful read , that the book is over so fast. I was so engrossed in this book that I was sad when it was over.
Zack and Ace continue to fight the good fight.Zack and Ace have been moving around their "just friends" relationship for a number of years. Being Circ means unavoidable sexual relations when the mating heat strikes, and it's putting a strain on their friendship. They're finally nearing an understanding about what they truly mean to one another when they're shocked by Kelly, the woman they've been lusting after for years. Suddenly she's available to them in a number of ways she's never been before. This is an action packed book with great chemistry. I recommend it highly!!!!
The second in the Circe books was tasty. I liked Zack and Ace's struggle to accept their relationship as two guys together. Adding the third, Kelly, was pretty hot. I'm still not sure I can imagine what these guys look like when they change. I was thinking a tall sleek predator like animal. Now I'm thinking of the Hulk, stocky and big. I'm all confused with the description. Still, I'm not too interested in how they look. I'm actually interested in who is this mysterious person pulling the strings? It's reminiscent of the Breeds by Lora Leigh and the Ghostwalkers by Christine Feehan in that aspect. Government/private organizations, messing with human genetics for a more powerful weapon that now has gone wrong.
I liked this book. I found it to be a little less than the first. It was very interesting how the two men in the threesome see thier beast and the man as two different people. "my beast needs this." " the man in me needs this.". I think they could have done more with the threesome, but there are two books after.
Marie Harte is a new author to me, and I found that her work was a little different which made me want to see what it was all about. Let’s just say I was pleasantly surprised. What I have found is that anything goes in her world. There is MM MFM and anything in between. It is original, it is fun, it is sexy, it is sizzling, it is strangely erotic in this paranormal world, and you will need more than a long drink to cool down. There is plenty of action and sexfests and you want to do away with the evil who place horrors against the characters. You want to be there to do harm when they infiltrate the enemy. If you like something oh so sexy, spicy and erotic, steaming and exciting with multiple partners then this is a book you should grab and dive right in.
I enjoyed the eroticism of the book, but that was about it. The author jumped around so much I couldn't tell which character was doing or saying what sometimes. The action scenes could have been a lot better, more developed, and even though this is fictional-fantasy it could have been more believable... for guys that are supposed to be military-trained they make a lot of amateur mistakes. It ended way too abruptly as well.
Zack & Ace, book 2 of the Circe's Recruits series, by Marie Harte @authormarieharte. This is a re-read of the series for me. I had been thinking about this series for months & finally decided no time like the present! 🤩
This MMF book was so good! I loved the dynamics of Zack & Ace, especially with how Ace fought his love for Zack & then when they brought Kelly into it? Hot!
This is the second in this series but the first one I have read in the series. I enjoyed this book and it was a quick easy read for me. This is a well written story with twists and wonderful characters. Please remember this is a Ménage story and yes there is M/M action so if your not into this then, this one isn't for you.
Be aware this series contains plenty of sexy times, M/M, M/F, and M/M/F. But there is also a complicated relationship wrapped around an interesting overarching sci-fi type action tale. Good read.
Phew! Interesting, hot and steamy MMF story. The heat between Zach, Ace, and Kelly burned my fingers as I swiped the pages. I recommend reading this book with a large glass of ice water. Followed by a cold shower.
Really am enjoying this paranormal series and all the different characters. Mad scientists, creatures made from lab shenanigans and mates make it good reading.
This book was hot. Seriously hot. And relatively short. I liked Kelly, and I liked Ace and Zack. Especially once Ace got his head out of his ass. I would recommend. <3
An orgasm -- for all that ails you. -Kelly's thoughts
Zack stood, and Ace pulled him back to the bed. Zack landed with an oomph. “Sorry.” Ace tried to be gentle as he pushed Zack to lie straight, the way he’d suggested. “What the fuck?” Zack’s voice was muffled by the pillow Ace shoved under his face. “Just relax and enjoy. I’m not coming on to you, for Christ’s sake. I’m just trying to be nice. Accept it,” he barked, his glare fading when he felt Zack chuckle. “Ass.” Zack sighed and settled into the bed. -Ace & Zack
The hunger in Ace’s brown eyes startled her. “Hell, I might get a medal for fucking you as hard as I have.” She blushed. She couldn’t help it. “Sorry. I should have said, for making love with you as hard as I have. Zack’s always on my ass not to curse in front of you.” She didn’t mention that “ass” was also a curse word. “He’s something of a gentleman, isn’t he?” “He likes to think so,” Ace said with a grin that quickly faded. -Ace & Kelly
“Yeah, well, I don’t want to talk about your sexy playthings. They remind me of my ‘boy toy,’ and I’m deliberately steering clear of Roane for a while. That idiot had the nerve to argue my designs for our bedroom.” Caitlyn scowled as she reached for her ample purse. She pulled out three bottles of nail polish. “How about we hang out and do girl stuff? Pretty Pink, Barely Blue, or Primal Purple?” “Primal Purple.” Though she wondered if the polish would cover her beast’s nails later tonight. Kelly felt the need to change with every breath she took. It wouldn’t be much longer until she let it out. At the thought, her beast purred its approval. “Once you changed, did you finally settle into your own skin?” Caitlyn nodded. “I was scared at first, but after you embrace that part of yourself, you’ll feel better than you ever have. You can’t deny who you are, no matter how much you might want to. And trust me, after you claim those knuckleheads who’ve been mooning over you for years, you’ll wonder what held you back so long.” -Caitlyn & Kelly
First read years ago and first reviewed in 2015 and I am still loving this series in 2021. The series is now in KU so I will be reading them again. Best to read in order to get the whole benefit of the sub stories. I have just reread this series CIRCE’S RECRUITS and the follow-on series DAWN ENDEAVOUR for the third time. Always enjoyable to read. If you want something that is a bit different, not quite shifter and not quite alien, along the lines of government science projects, genetically altering people, everything going wrong, scientists playing god, then this might just be for you. Circe’s Recruits - Soldiers turned into something more. They fight against the ones who could not take being turned, or just ended up bad and are called rogue circs. We met Kelly in book one and you just knew there was something going on with her. Ace and Zack had bonded and paired up for sex regularly over the years but both had a thing for Kelly. Ace had a big problem admitting his feelings for Zack and this caused friction between them. Zack was okay with being bi-sexual but Ace was raised in a house with a homophobic father. Kelly thought they were gay and there was no place for her in their relationship. When they finally all come together as mates, Zack, believing Ace does not really want him, cannot handle it and pulls away. Kelly is tricked, captured and taken back to the labs while the boys are sorting out their differences, which heaps more guilt on Zack. She is of course helped/saved and all ends well until the next book. The four books in the series all weave together to form one really good ongoing story with relationships coming together, both past and present and sub stories about other important people who have pivotal roles in the series.

I’ve been in a mood to read or listen to MMF stories since I am currently trying to put an original one of them in order for myself. I had gotten this one a few weeks ago when it was offered for free, so I thought I’d give it a shot.
I often check others’ reviews (books, movies, various products) to gauge how those opinions compare to my own. With this book, I read a lot of glowing 5 star reviews, but this book is merely okay for me.
This is novella length, and by nature of its length, there isn’t much space to explore what’s going on. Though the trio are all supposed to love each other, I never felt connected to that love as if it was real. It felt like I was told, not shown. Also, the transitions from scene to scene or person’s head to person’s head really do need work.
I am potentially intrigued by Derrick and Hale’s stories, but if the writing is of similar style and quality to this, that wouldn’t be good use of my time or money.
The story was merely okay for me, and I’ll forget about it soon enough. But different strokes for different folks… if you like a quick, light story involving an MMF trio where one person isn’t completely sure he belongs there, then this might scratch that itch.
4.5 stars for book two in the Circe's Recruits series features Zack & Ace who have been friends for years but fought against any other feelings until the right women brings them together. Zack and Ace have always turned to each other to sate their needs when the mating heat would strike but never outside the frenzy. The friends have been strained recently fighting feelings they don't want to have for each other and now that Kelly is available in all ways both human and Circ maybe they can address the issue.
Kelly has been friends with Zack and Ace for a long time and now that she is Circ and also wanting a relationship with both men all their prayers should be answered, right? Will the men get over their hang ups in regards to sex with each other and Kelly? Will they make Kelly chose between them?
This series is starting to hit it's stride but the books still aren't long enough for me. This book/series has it all with smoking hot scenes, paranormal romance, shapeshifters and menage too :)
Zack and Ace have been friends since they were chosen for Project Dawn. They have survived the failure of the drug to turn ordinary men into super soldiers and have followed Roane as team members in search of rouge Circs. But when the mating heat hits, they are drawn to one another more than when the heat is dormant. Ace has a lot of hang ups when it comes to his attraction to Zack. Zack freely admits he is bisexual and that his interests lie with Ace.
Kelly has worked for Doc for years and knows the secrets of Circe’s Recruits. She is dawn to both Zack and Ace and doesn’t understand some of her feelings and attractions for them. She befriends Caitlyn when Caitlyn is brought into the group. And she begins to have suspicions that Caitlyn may not be the only female Circ.
When Kelly reaches her maturity and Zack and Ace admit to both wanting her, things begin to heat up and become even more dangerous as a rival doctor wants them all.
I loved Zack and Ace in the first book. I loved how they were always sniping at each other and how protective they were of Kelly. Of all the men, Ace seemed to have the hardest time accepting that he craved another man's touch. When it was only his beast trying to get some action, he could handle it but when he started wanting him as a man, he freaked a bit. That gave him so many more layers for me. Zack broke my heart when he so easily accepted that he and Ace had something but at the same time he had resigned himself that Ace would never feel the same way. And then there was Kelly, who loved both men and couldn't imagine choosing between them, even before they all tumbled into bed. Needless to say, this book is one of my favorites of the series.
In this book, Circe's Recruits are back. Zack and Ace, two best friends on the team have a rather close relationship. Zack has been attracted to his friend, and the Circ mating heat has enabled them to be together. Zack doesn't know if Ace is forced to be physical due to the mating heat or not. On top of that, Kelly, a woman they are both in love with, is also attracted to both men.
I liked the relationship between Zack and Ace and it felt a little more developed than the first book because this is the second book that we are learning about Zack and Ace. I also liked Kelly more than Caitlyn. Caitlyn was just a little too bossy for my taste, but Kelly is sweeter.
I liked this book better than the first book, but again, I find the books to be rather short.
This book was great! I loved the dynamic of Zack, Ace and Kelly's relationship. Ace had to finally deal with his feeling for Zack after fighting it for years. Zack had been patient with Ace but Kelly maturing into a Circ spiced things up for all of them. The way Pearson Labs experiments on people is just so inhumane. From the previous book I thought Sabrina was a hardhearted person but then she sacrificed herself to save Kelly from become another on of Pearl's test subjects. That was so selfless of her. I really hope she isn't dead because she will be a good match for Derrick. Looking forward to the next book.
Ok I'm definitely not into man on man stories/scenes. The storyline intrigued me so forward I go through this series. This book had a bit too much man on man for my liking but was a really okay read. Just felt that the majority of the story concentrated too much on the guys, instead of the "mates" as a whole. Although I wouldn't mind meeting Zach!! Phew, now thats a guy in tough with his feelings.
Hopefully next book is a little more on the storyline as a whole than on the sex/relationship side. Would have been a much more interesting read if there was a little more action of a different kind in the book =D
I liked this slightly better than the first book. Zack and Ace have paired up through the mating heat, going off by themselves. Zack because he's attracted to Ace in and out of beast form, but Ace isn't comfortable with wanting sex with a guy. Both guys have been attracted to Kelly, who finds out her mother had been injected with the beast virus or whatever it is and she's close to turning. The guys have to come to terms with their feelings for each other as well as Kelly while fighting off the bad guys.
I'm enjoying this series more. Hopefully book #3 will be even better.
