Three more stories in the more traditional sword and sorcery genre.
The first story is centered around a thief and a barbarian, their uneasy friendship, and their adventures.
The second story centers around two individuals, without giving anything away, that needs to be read, enjoy.
The third story has a return of an individual named Brock, whom appeared previously in this mag, facing down a creature that will immediately bring to mind a Basilisk.
Savage Realms returns with a spectacular April issue. This issue features new stories by Jeff Shelnutt, Matthew Gomez, and the return of Chad Wilson.
The Spider's Eyes by Jeff Shelnett
A disparate pair of rogues attempt to assail the same temple and relieve it of its worldly goods. Neither is completely prepared to undertake this venture alone, and neither is happy to see the other. With much banter they forge a tenuous working agreement. What could go wrong?
This duo reminded me of a certain pair from Lankhmar. Classic.
A Gentleman of Blades by Matthew Gomez
"He had grown up in this city, spent his life here and knew it like his own face in the mirror – always changing, and not always for the better, but the shape familiar."
An old business associate comes seeking help. You see, Reynauld is in the business of favors. The daughter of this associate has been kidnapped. Reynauld decides to handle this personally. Tearing the city's underworld apart, Reynauld soon learns this problem runs deeper than the abduction of a single girl.
Reynauld is a consummate professional, and very dangerous to cross. It just became personal.
Stone Figures by Chad A.B. Wilson
Brock returns. He arrives by boat to a village that has been under attack. No one has seen the assailant and lived. As he investigates, he discovers life-like statues littering the village. Learning the identity of the assailant is only the beginning of his problems.
Wilson also has a story of Brock in Savage Realms May 2021 issue. He has also published Brock stories elsewhere; enough that an eventual collection wouldn't be ruled out.
Remember that Savage Realms keeps the door open for submissions year-round and that fans sometimes make the best authors. Who better than someone who loves the medium? I cannot wait to read your story within these pages.
Savage Realms Monthly (SRM) returns with its April 2022 issue featuring two stories by new authors to the magazine and the return of BROCK OF FALSEA from author Chad A.B. Wilson.
SRM continues to publish some of the newest and freshest takes on Sword & Sorcery adventures and tales from writers fairly new to readers as well as others that have been fan favorites over the years.
One of the most fun features of SRM is that stories can be told of Barbarians and Wizards from the distant past of the world to future civilizations and alternate planes where you'll find the same struggles of good vs evil being fought, won and lost.
In this issue: THE SPIDER'S EYES by Jeff Shelnutt - A robbery gone wrong as two hired thieves find themselves contending for the same prize. A GENTLEMAN OF BLADES by Matthew Gomez - A response to a desperate plea triggers the start of a war of monstrous beings. STONE FIGURES by Chad A.B. Wilson - The return of Brock, Guardian of Falsea, Killer of the Dragon, Defender against the Dead Lord, as he and a compliment of imperial soldiers discover their destination populated only by Stone Statues...Ohhhh...and the statue maker itself.
Another fun month in the books...keep reading and supporting!!!
A mix of good and okay, not the best of the series of magazines so far, but it had a couple of good songs. Two of them were really truncated and the last one didn't have much of a fantasy feel to it despite being a fight between soldiers and what apparently are cockatrices of some sort. The first story was very good though.
Savage Realms Monthly continues to deliver some of the finest new stories of sword and sorcery. If you enjoy stories of strange lands, forgotten gods and monsters, and heroic men and women. , this magazine delivers.
