"The History of the UK" offers a concise yet insightful overview of the United Kingdom's rich and multifaceted past. While it serves as a solid starting point for those seeking a broad understanding of British history, it is important to supplement this resource with additional sources for a more comprehensive perspective.

I found the book to be an enjoyable read, particularly appreciating its coverage of key historical periods such as prehistoric Britain, the Tudor era, the reign of King Alfred, and the Stuarts. The writing is clear and engaging, making it accessible to readers of all backgrounds.

As an avid reader of history books, I found "The History of the UK" to be a valuable addition to my collection. However, I would recommend consulting other sources to delve deeper into specific topics and events. Overall, this book provides a solid foundation for further exploration of the fascinating history of the United Kingdom.

In a super short book like this, oversimplification is to be expected. I'm not sure there is any excuse for the many factual errors though... There are also some very bizarre omissions.

And don't get me started on the myriad of misproninciations in the audio version. And the terrible audio editing. Phrases are repeated constantly. Obviously not a single person actually listened to this before they released it to the world.

But, for someone who knows nothing of the history of the UK, this might well work to whet the appetite. It's written in a clear, engaging manner and does provide something of a "greatest hits" overview.
Just don't expect a high academic standard, and don't assume everything you read here is actually correct.

If you like history, you will love this book! It covers all the major happenings in the history of the United Kingdom and it is an easy read. It is very much a survey of history, rather than a deep in depth look at everything, but I really liked that. It gave me everything I wanted to know, and a bit more, and it was easily digested. Some history books can be so boring and dull and this is definitely NOT one of those. I highly recommend it for anyone that enjoys history and/or just wants to brush up on their British history knowledge.

The Nerds Need to “Nerd Out” More

I have read one other history guide by this publisher, and I find this one just as peculiar as I found that. If you're hoping for a concise history of the United Kingdom, you will most likely be disappointed. Instead, the authors provide a peculiar mishmash of actual history, legend, and opinion about the UK. Sometimes, the history is actually flat-out wrong or makes for more confusion by what the publishers have omitted. If you want to brush up your UK history, I suggest you find another book.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

This is a short book that provides a sort of comprehensive look at the overall history of the UK. It's a start but most certainly should not be your only source when it comes to the history of the UK. There seems to be more than just history mixed into this book. Also, give up on using the BCE/CE convention. It's a silly attempt to cut God out of history.

The History of the UK. I enjoyed reading this history book and learning more about the prehistoric Britain, Tudors, King Alfred, the Stuarts, to name a few. It is well written and I learnt a lot. I love reading History books.

To say that this is a whistle stop tour is an understatement. The audiobook is read by an American and innumerable mispronunciations of UK place names is irritating. At best this rapid summary could act as a chronological memory jog but beware of factual errors and (as expected) rather selective choice of topics.

Whilst this race through British history contains some good information, it also leaves out some fairly relevant stuff and other bits are simply not aligned with current historical views. Overall it is a bit dry and not to be fully trusted on the accuracy of some of its facts
