Annabelle McCormack writes historical romantic fiction, fantasy romance, and contemporary romance packed with sprawling adventures, epic love, and soulmates who just can’t stay away from each other (even when the world is falling apart). If there’s a sweeping love story with high stakes and deep emotions, she’s probably writing it—or at least dreaming about it while chasing down her next cup of coffee.

When she’s not wrangling words, she’s wrangling five home-schooled kids, a couple of dogs, and an unreasonable amount of books in Maryland. If life had more hours (and less laundry), she’d be traveling, painting, or becoming a professional pastry chef. For now, she’s content with baking, reading, lifting heavy things at the gym, and plotting her next great escape—er, novel.

“If this war has taught me anything, it’s that any semblance of control I have is just an illusion.”

This book was everything I was hoping it would be and more!

Have you ever anticipated a book release so excitedly only to discover that it didn’t measure up to your expectations? This one was MORE than I anticipated. Worthy of MORE than 5 stars. Author Annabelle McCormack took my love of Egypt, my unquenchable desire for historical fiction, my need to learn as I read, and my excitement of following a mystery and the pulsating thrill of a chase, mixed it all together with a dollop of romance and produced one of my best reads of the summer!

Set against the backdrop of the Middle Eastern front of WW1, McCormack gently pulls back the curtain to reveal one of the ulterior motives driving the Great War ~ energy security. As the Great Powers competed for possession of this lifeblood of their armies, an oil monopoly was created and its politics continue to shape our history today. McCormack reveals how big a factor oil domination really was during the First World War.

McCormack also highlights the dawn of the Modern Era and reveals the urge many of the privileged women possessed to fight against societal constraints. Her protagonist strikes out on her own and takes her future into her own hands. It wasn’t easy for Ginger Whitman, nor were the results what she’d planned. Attaining her dreams hadn’t been without sacrifice, yet she chose to disregard what was expected of her and what was an easier option. I loved reading about Ginger’s adventure!

Egypt is my favourite place to vacation and McCormack brought it alive for me. She dazzled me with all my cherished memories: the aroma of the exotic spices, the call of the muezzin, the rustling of the galabeyas, the slow glide of the feluccas in the Nile, the adamant pleas to remember ‘backsheesh’, the feel of my toes in the sands of the Sahara, and the wonder of experiencing all my favourite tourist destinations. Her book had me revisiting Cairo, Aswan, Saqqara, the Khan-el-Khalili and Tahrir Square, museums, pyramids, temples, and the Serapeum. I was giddy with excitement.

Author Annabelle McCormack gives voice to the often overlooked nurses who volunteered for active service on the Middle Eastern front of World War One and to the many frustrated women who decided to break free from societal norms and take a chance on experiencing what made them come alive! For those who love romance, wartime fiction and learning as they read, this one’s for you.

I loved Noah Benson and Ginger Whitman and can’t wait to see what McCormack has in store for them in book 3!

As-salaam alykum!

I was generously gifted this advance copy by the author and was under no obligation to provide a review.

You know a book is good when it makes you anxious for the characters. And when you smile at the romance and then want to throw the book across the room because of the upsetting twists and turns (good thing). I held my breathe through most of it and I didn’t want to put it down. I absolutely loved it. The characters, the romance and the historical time line. I’ll be thinking about this one for awhile. Noah was everything I want in man!
Thank you Annabelle for writing this. I recommend if you love a good historical romance. This can be read as a stand-alone if you’re wondering.

I received an ACR for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Another great installment in the Windswept Saga, and I am looking forward to the release of the third book, Whisper in the Tempest! I am going to purchase the prequel Novella, A Zephyr Rising, as well. Annabelle McCormack’s writing style definitely has a perfect balance of suspense, adventure, and romance. Her historical fiction books are well researched and kept me wanting to quickly read, completely engrossed in the story. Wonderful characters and exciting storyline!

I was so excited when I was offered to be part of the authors book tour again, I loved the first book Windswept so I couldn’t wait to start reading the second book! This book continues the story of Noah and Ginger’s journey in the Middle East during WWI.
The book begins a few months after where the first book left off. Ginger is working as a nurse in Alexandria and Noah is working his missions and he’s trying to uncover clues about oil concessions. When Ginger is drafted into an investigation for the Cairo Intelligence Department, she uncovers a plan to destroy the man she loves. To their shock their enemy Stephen Fisher whose a German spy, he escaped in the first book is back, when he willingly surrenders to the authorities immediately Noah is suspicious of his motives, and appears he has a right to be, this is where the book takes off and I was at the edge of my seat! I’m sad I have to wait for the next book!

This second novel takes Ginger and Noah to Egypt, both fighting for their lives, each other and a race against time to decipher a code that may save Ginger's family. Continuing with her nursing, her skills are called into question when she has to make a hasty decision to save one man over another and goes against an order of a lieutenant. She fears for her career when she is given an opportunity that sounds too good to be true, but she knows she cannot pass it up. She is enlisted to help search for information on some of her fathers business dealings meanwhile she will be training under a prominent female doctor and potentially being able to then take her nursing education further. But she must complete the assignment, and stay away from Noah at all costs even though someone from her past continues to threaten everything she has worked for. Things come to a head, and Ginger calls into question Noah's true intentions, the truth of what really happened to her father and brother and the potential to fail at her assignment putting her mother and sister at risk and worry about how they will live. Thank you to the author for sending me a free copy of the novel. I love this series!

First of all, just look at that cover! That alone drew me in. It’s gorgeous! Second, this is my second 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐌𝐜𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐤 novel and it absolutely was amazing as book 1! She is a talented author at writing a captivating historical fiction novel!

I absolutely loved getting pulled into Ginger & Noah’s story. There was beautifully chiseled moments of suspense, historical details and romance. Their characters were fun to follow and absolutely stole my heart!

Filled with roller coaster twists and turns, this novel has me up long into the early morning hours, needing to know what happened next. By the end, I wasn’t ready to say goodbye and wanted more! Luckily this is book 2 in the 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 so I’ll definitely be looking forward to book 3!

If you love richly detailed historical fiction with the perfect amount of intriguing mystery & romance, this 4★ novel should not be missed!

Sands of Sirocco is stunning WW1 fiction like I’ve never read before. If you love books filled with mystery, intrigue, and romance you need to pick this one up! I usually read books set during WW2 so this was a great learning opportunity!

First, the setting. This story is set in Egypt. I’ve never read a WW1 novel set in Egypt and I learned so much! There are fantastic historical facts woven into the storyline. It was eye opening to read about the unrest happening in the Middle East.

Second, the characters! So, this is a sequel, and I have not read the first book, but I still was able to follow the relationships in the story. I was thrown right into Ginger and Noah’s relationship and even though I never got to see it start I was able to feel the love they had for each other. I loved them both. Ginger is fiery and smart. Noah is passionate and loyal.

This story is full of twists and turns and I never knew what was going to happen next! I definitely recommend it!

*I received a gifted copy of this book and my opinions are all my own.

I absolutely adored the author’s first book in this trilogy, and I was so happy to be apart of the second book tour. This was an excellent continuation of Noah and Ginger’s journey in the Middle East during WWI. Like I said in my last review, I was unaware of the history associated with this part of WWI in this part of the world. I find it fascinating, and I love how strong of a character Ginger is. I also love her love and devotion to Noah, no matter the cost to her relationship with her family. This book is full of strong women in the face of danger and war.

Thanks so much to Suzy Approved Book Tours and Annabelle McCormack for including me in this second tour!

I love a book that not only entertains me but one where I also learn new things and this book does just that.

I have read WINDSWEPT, the first book in the series, so British involvement in the Middle East during WWI was something I learned about last year during that read.

But in this book I learned about the British making multiple promises to countries and groups with the end game to find oil which of course would increase their power as a nation.

Along with that true part of history, the action and drama in this book kept me highly engaged.

This book has Ginger, a favorite main character of mine, working with a female surgeon while quietly searching for something belonging to her late father.

While at the same time, her love interest Noah, is facing danger while trying to rescue a kidnapped official’s daughter.

There is an ongoing enemy that’s still a threat and new obstacles for Ginger and Noah to conquer if they are ever going to be together.

Characters from WINDSWEPT along with new characters, details of 1917 Middle East, and lots of layered secrets make for a perfect second book in this historical fiction read.

Sands in Sirocco is the second novel in the Windswept WW1 Saga, a historical fiction series featuring a strong female protagonist. A story of spies, family drama, romance, and epic adventure, it is set in the British Middle Eastern front of the First World War.

Egypt, 1917: British nurse Ginger Whitman thought she escaped the intrigue that devastated her family and threatened her life on the desert sands of WWI Palestine. But when she’s drafted into an investigation for the Cairo Intelligence Department, she uncovers forces at work to destroy the man she loves: intelligence officer Noah Benson.

As an old enemy resurfaces, Ginger and Noah are pulled into a minefield of lies, greed, and political deception that threatens the stability of the British alliance. With an enemy that knows their secrets, no one they love is safe. But nothing is what it seems—and a far more nefarious foe may be toying with them both.

The second book in the “Windswept” series does not disappoint - I could not put this one down either! The whole series so far is absolutely brilliant - another late night! The beautiful love story of Noah and Ginger continues amongst the theatre of World War I, surrounded with by people who care for them, people who don’t and people that want to see them dead. They are surrounded by death, spies and deceit, but their belief in each other just grows stronger. The intrigue will have you on the edge of your chair. I highly recommend this book as well 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Sands of Sirocco is an amazing adventure and one of the most thrilling books I have read this year. After the brilliant Windswept, the second volume of this epic saga continues to depict accurately and vividly the period of the First World War in Egypt through the story of Ginger and Noah, a nurse from an aristocratic family, and a British officer working for the Intelligence department.
Following the events from the first book, the story starts a few months after the previous events. Ginger is working as a nurse but in a hospital in Alexandria while Noah continues with his covert missions, this time trying to uncover information about oil concessions.
Despite being apart, they are looking forward to the end of the war when they can be together. Unfortunately, their nemesis, Stephen Fisher, a German spy that fled at the end of the first book is back. He seems willing to surrender to the authorities but Noah is suspicious of his motives, and with good cause...
Many adventures and miscommunication will follow at a blinding rhythm and without revealing more of the story, I must say that I was tormented thinking, this is going to end badly! Only a well-told story can leave you with this anguish.
I cannot wait for the conclusion and I am only sorry that it will take a whole year to be released!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader copy of this book.

Book Review…Sands of Sirocco by Annabelle McCormack

I loved the first book in this series and I was so excited when it came up for a book tour! It's a book full of adventure, secrets, love, mystery and spies!

Ginger Whitman thought she escaped the intrigue that devastated her family and threatened her life. But when she’s drafted into an investigation for the Cairo Intelligence Department, she uncovers forces at work to destroy the man she loves, Noah Benson.

Ginger and Noah are pulled into a minefield of lies, greed, and political deception. With an enemy that knows their secrets, no one is safe. But nothing is what it seems and a far more nefarious foe may be toying with them both.

First I love the cover, it's beautiful! This is the second book in the Windswept WWI series and it continues Noah and Ginger’s story. Annabelle McCormack does a wonderful job bringing that time and place to life! Noah and Ginger are the type of characters you get excited to read more about, smile when they have a sweet moment and get anxious when they find themselves in a tight spot. I couldn't put this book down! I really couldn't help myself! I can't wait for the next book! Thank you Historical Fiction Virtual Book Tours and Annabelle McCormack for sharing this fantastic story with me!

Sands of Sirocco is the second book in the trilogy. I loved the first book Windswept and I was excited to read the continuation of Ginger and Noah's story. The book takes place in 1917 during WWI in Egypt. Ginger is enlisted by the CID to find information on her deceased father's oil concession while she is a nurse for a female doctor. Noah is determined to help Ginger and free his captured friend Jack. Both of their lives are in danger as the manipulative German soldier Stephen returns.

I havnt read many historical fiction books taking place during WWI especially taking place in Egypt. This book is well researched. Ginger is a strong and resilient woman who will do anything she can to protect her mother and sister. This story has espionage, intrigue, mystery and romance. I look forward to reading the final book in this trilogy.

Sands of Sirocco is the second book in the Windswept Saga series by Annabelle McCormack.

Let me tell you when a book opens with Ginger doing an amputation on a solider.

This book was even better than the first book Windswept which I did not think was even possible.

This historical fiction has not only a well-researched history, but romance and mystery.

This book really keeps your attention and is an incredible follow up to Windswept.

What an amazing nurse and woman Ginger is, she is so strong and resilient.

A fantastic historical fiction that I really enjoyed!

A Historical fiction packed with action, secrets, and romance. It picked up shortly after the first book ended and I liked how the conversations and internal monologue recapped a little of the first book without it being repetitive. It helped me remember certain events of the first book without having to reread beforehand. I loved getting a POV from both Ginger and Noah. I loved the romance mixed in with the life and death situations. There were a lot of small twists that and the adrenaline from the dangerous situations kept me on my toes. I loved this book and can’t wait to see their story continue!

The saga of Ginger and Noah continues. So much more family drama than you could imagine. I loved the story. The location. I may not fully understand the war aspects exactly, but I enjoy everything about the relationships. Ginger’s family is complicated. Stephen shows up again. I really feel for her sister. And Victoria. The characters are all developed more in this one.
I Will read anything with Malta in it. I love that little island where I lived. It’s only in the end, but so fun to read and picture places I’ve been. The story doesn’t end, so I’m looking forward to the third one.

I’d read them in order so you’re not confused.

I highly recommend this for historical fiction lovers. There's also mystery and spies, lush detail of Egypt, romance, fight to claim oil rights and more!

This book was such an adventure again for our MCs Noah and Ginger! It starts right into the action with Ginger needing to perform an amputation of a soldier's leg.

You never know who to trust in this story except for our MCs and I really was loving that. I felt like I was side by side with them throughout. The details are just amazing that they put you right there. I can't wait for the conclusion which is sure to be epic!

This highly-anticipated sequel to Windswept did not disappoint! Full of just as much action, adventure, and romance as the first book in the series.

I appreciate the author’s exploration of lesser-known time periods and eras in history. I learned a few new things about the Middle Eastern front during WWI from reading this book.

Thank you to the author for an advanced review copy of the book!

great series read

Loved the first one and the second in this series. I am really wishing I didn’t have to wait a year for number 3 to find out if the main characters live happy ever after. I don’t think anyone will be disappointed in this series. If you like WW1 historical romances, this is the best I’ve ever read and I’ve read a lot. This has an entire new outlook on the war.

I wish I liked this series as much as everyone else does. It’s just too much romance and unrealistic adventure / suspense for me. I like the historical events, and the settings but the novels. Including this one are just an average read for me.

Thisequel equals its first volume. Real edge of the sit stuff. Will Noah survive will Ginger manage. It really only covers a few days B but it’s a page turner. Hateful suites Stephen Fisher is still causing Ginger trouble and there is a new adversary to be wary of! Really looking forward to the final volume.
