Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a Scottish writer and physician. He created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and fifty-six short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes stories are milestones in the field of crime fiction.
Doyle was a prolific writer. In addition to the Holmes stories, his works include fantasy and science fiction stories about Professor Challenger, and humorous stories about the Napoleonic soldier Brigadier Gerard, as well as plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction, and historical novels. One of Doyle's early short stories, "J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement" (1884), helped to popularise the mystery of the brigantine Mary Celeste, found drifting at sea with no crew member aboard.
The adventures of Sherlock Holmes is written by Arthur Conan Doyle. Sherlock Holmes is a smart detective who can solve anything. He will solve the mysteries of the red headed league, the copper beeches, and the speckled band. First the red headed league has been shut down. Holmes must find who did it and why, he must fix it. Next The speckled band is an odd mystery with exotic animals and death. Dr. Grimesby Roylott has exotic animals as pets, he has monkeys cheetahs and snakes. Julia was hearing strange whistling sounds from Dr. Roylotts room. Each night she hears them but then one night she killed. No one knew what killed and how, that is Sherlock Holmes job. Then Holmes is called up for duty by Violet Hunter the five year governess. She thinks someone is trying to impersonate her and Holmes needs to find who is doing this. My favorite part was the mystery of the speckled band. I liked the story behind this mystery because it was very interesting. The cool thing was that the were indian animals because that is were they previously lived. After hearing the whistling in one night she was killed. Investigators searched the whole house for clues and found nothing. Then sherlock Holmes did so easily was so cool. He was smart to see that if he stayed a night to hear the whistle and he would have more information on it. Then when he had enough information he attacked the situation and solved it. I would recommend this book to kids ages ten to fourteen. This book has pictures to help people describe the text. People would like this if they like great mystery books. It's a great mystery book about the best detective ever. I would rate this book a five star because it described everything so well and I love mystery genre books like this. I and my crew, of 2 Homeschooling Boys, kept this title for a very short period of time. While we all Love Sherlock Holmes and Doyle. My 2 kept telling me that the "real" books were better.
While I know that for some these Illustrated classics are a great fit. For us they just didn't work.
