About the author

Lauren Biel

Lauren’s stories are often emotionally raw, with lots of twists and turns. She describes her writing as “where light meets dark”, which represents how her witty humor compliments the darkness in every story. Instead of trying to mold her writing to fit in a box, she chooses to be unapologetically herself. While her focus is on Romance with dark elements, subgenre is no constraint for her. The common theme in every book is finding love when you least expect it. She enjoys putting her characters through tribulations, allowing their triumphs to be that much more poignant. Make sure you have your seatbelts secured. It’s always a bumpy ride.

When she’s not working, she’s writing. When she’s not writing, she’s spending time with her husband, her friends, or her pets. You might also find her on a horseback trail ride or sitting beside a waterfall in Upstate New York. She has a pretty normal life, yet her stories are anything but.

Kevin has PTSD from serving in the military, and after nearly killing his ex, Emily, and stalking her, he decides to attend therapy. Skye has issues with her father abusing her and her mother. Since he's the mayor, she can't really do anything about it. After trying to kill him, he works it out that she must attend therapy or this murder attempt goes on her record. When Kevin and Skye meet, the two are completely broken humans trying to survive. With each other, they may be able to fight the demons that haunt them together.

This book is completely captivating and heartbreaking! Kevin's story is one we hear a lot from people in the military and it is tragic. Skye's story is just a tragic, and as you read the things that have happened to her, you get emotional.
The two stories hurt you to read, but as they get closer, you can see them slowly healing. Kevin is so different with Skye than he was with Emily that you just know the two were made for each other.
The author has absolutely given us a heartbreaking story, but it's one you'll love because of how good it is. The writing was fantastic, and I never felt like the pacing was too fast or slow. Everything fit well together and flowed seamlessly.

Two very damaged people find each other and a connection that could be their salvation or ruin Kevin a army vet with PTSD, obsessive tendencies, and drinking problem. Skye has lived a secret nightmare since she was barely a toddler abused by those who called themselves her family, she finds security and hope in the equally damaged Kevin. This story was an emotional train wreck wrapped in a dumpster fire that left me on the edge of my seat I finished reading in a matter of hours. Be very aware of the triggers in this story.

Colliding Stars is book 2 with Shooting Down The Stars being book 1. We first meet Kevin in book 1 and I will admit I didn’t like him, he annoyed me and I didn’t like him with Emily but after reading Colliding Stars which is Kevin’s story , I saw him in a new light and my heart broke for him and Skye.

Kevin and Skye both suffer with PTSD , Kevin due to being a veteran and Skye due to childhood abuse. These characters meet in therapy with Kevin taking Skye in eventually this developing into something more.

The story is heartbreaking, gritty and angsty. Both characters are complex and suffering with their own demons.

This story is not a light story and please check the trigger warnings before reading both books.

While this book could be read as a stand alone, I do not recommend it because you will be missing out on part of Kevin’s story. You first meet Kevin in Shooting Down The Stars and you find what leads to him living a broke life as he lost everything because of the ending of the previous book. Because of this, he was given mandated therapy but because of his stalking habit, he decides to go back to group therapy even though it isn’t required. There we meet Skye who storms in after mandated therapy because of something she did. These two start to build a relationship of him feeling the need to protect her from her demons and she wants to help him fight his. They were both given horrible childhoods and grew up struggling with everything but wow do they come together at the end and the progress you see is amazing. I’m so happy they got their happy ever after. I would love to see an epilogue a few more years later because I want to know how they are doing longer than 1 year. Have they finally conquered there demons more or did they fall back into old habits. Either way, this book was fantastic!

**I received this as an ARC for my honest review. It in no way reflects my opinion**

Going into this one I wasn't sure if I would like it as I wasn't keen on Kevin in shoot down the starts but I think I liked this one more. Not that there was anything wrong with David and Emily. I just liked Kevin and Skye stories more.

Kevin has PTSD after serving 2 tours in the army. Skye has trauma because her dad's been beating the c**p out of her for years and she was SA from 3 to 8 years old.

Both are in group therapy and Kevin seems to take a protective roll of her instantly. I loved that he did and I love that she finally had someone in her corner.

They seem to help each other more than Mr Andrews the therapist ever did. I wish that Kevin had told her the truth about Emily, she shouldn't have heard about it and the trial from his mum who was just doing it to hurt him.

All in all it was a really good book. The flashback for both of them were well written and detailed.

One thing I have learned reading Lauren's books is that she will take you on one heck of an emotional rollercoaster ride and this book was no different.

The book starts of with Kevin (31) in a stalker mentality while trying to hide his feelings inside of a liquor bottle. Then you meet Skye (18) dealing abuse from one of the people who is suppose to protect her. One shows up at group therapy to try and seek help the other is forced to be there.
Can two damaged people help each other overcome their demons?

Kevin and Skye's story is deep, dark, and raw. It will captivate you from start to finish with how real the words written feel.

You will find age gap, sexual assault, obsession, PTSD, Physical abuse, and drinking in this book. Along with other touchy subjects so be mindful of the warnings before jumping in.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

This story is heartbreaking beautiful, I was hooked from the first sentence. This book was not a easy read. It was raw and emotional, I loved how real this book was! It hit home so many times,

Both main characters are struggling with demons, one of the past and one in the present.

Kevin is struggling to live with his PTSD from the war, using alcohol has a coping mechanism lands him in trouble with the law and is sent to a group therapy to help deal with his trauma.

Skye is dealing with a lot at home, her father is abusing her and her mother, until one night she tries to take matters into her own hands and lands into the same group therapy that Kevin attends.

They’re both drawn to each other from the first moment, both are dealing with heavy trauma. Slowly their walls start to breakdown and they form a bond.

This book can be read as a standalone but to understand Kevin’s past better its best to read the first book !

This book is heavy on triggers!
•stalking
•alcohol abuse
•self harming
•PTSD, Anxiety, Depression
•physical abuse
•SA/R*pe

This is a tale of to broken people from very different backgrounds finding that love can still exist even when you're in the darkest of places.

Fighting PTSD from his time in the Army and the repercussions of almost killing his ex the last thing Kevin should do is involve himself in Skye's life. Hiding the abuse she's suffered at the hands of those who should care for her most she's young, damaged and fighting the demons of her past. But they find themselves drawn together, their broken edges fitting better than expected and slowly they begin to grow and smooth each other out.

This is raw and emotional and the triggers should be heeded but it's a story of hope and growth and never giving up.

Damaged and Broken.
Skye and Kevin have both been through more in their young lives than some people experience before they're elderly.

Kevin is a combat war vet who went through hell overseas. Skye has been raised by an abuser (dad) and his accomplice (mom). They meet at therapy and we watch as the navigate a friendship and maybe more?

As with all of Lauren Biel's characters, Skye and Kevin are well-developed characters. By the end of the book I felt like I knew them. I liked how the conflict in this book did not come from miscommunications or stubbornness. And despite how hard Kevin had it, he was able to do what was right for Skye. He protected her - even from himself.

Lauren Biel is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.

PLEASE read the trigger warnings.
Navigating trauma alone is difficult but with someone else in the picture to help it's worth it.

Skyler dealt with it all bruising, anger, and depression. She was sent to meetings because it was required which is where she met Kevin. Kevin is there for drinking and stalking Emily (she is in the first book). At first, Kevin is only there to protect Sky but in the end, they form not only a friendship but a relationship.

Will I say more? No, because this story needs to be read going in blind.

Traumance Through and Through!

Note: I received this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

As a continuation off of Shoot Down the Stars, this book was amazing! I loved getting to know Kevin better and the relationship he develops with Skye after the tragedy of what happened between him and Emily in the prior book. The way both characters work through their PTSD from different sources and in different manners was extremely well done. The entire book I found myself wanting to just comfort the both of them. This would be a book to mind triggers with as there is self-harm. There is spice, it is excellent, but the plot is so much deeper than that to where it is more like the cherry on top rather than the whole sundae. Overall, would highly highly recommend!

A dark and spicy traumance worthy of more than 5 stars!

Colliding Stars is the second book in the Stars Duet. Kevin and Skye go through some really dark traumas in their earlier years so make sure you read the trigger warnings. Their relationship stands together in ways literally bring the dark to light. Great storyline that is raw and holds elements of real life circumstances. Plus, the the spice is phenomenal!

the best kind of desperation

Lauren Biel has a knack for the damaged and broken. Kevin and Skye have a lot of baggage between them, and as people do, they don’t know what to do with it. Their choices together were raw and human, their connection and growth undeniable. I’m glad they made each other better than the inhumane lows they found themselves in when the world pushed them together.

Two broken people coming together could be disastrous, and in some ways it is, but Kevin and Skye do their best to help each other confront their issues and move forward with their lives. Not solve each other's problems, they're not miraculously fixed, but just be there for support.
This was an emotional story, deep and dark, and I really felt for them both. I didn't have a great impression of Kevin in Shoot Down the Stars, but here, after reading his story, my view of him has changed.
A captivating story, one I didn't want to put down.

Is it possible to be triggered by other people triggers, cause that’s what this book is about. Oh, and I really freaking liked it. Some parts were really hard to read but I could not put it down. This author does almost to good of a job putting you into the story. This book is extremely explicit. It’s so hard to describe but if you think the blurb is interesting, then go ahead and dive in. It’s more than you can imagine.

Lauren has written a story that has two damaged people coming together in the most unusual/tragic situation. Kevin and Skye are dealing with their own set if individual demons. This story will take you down a road of emotions. You will feel the pain each character is experiencing. This book is one that will stay with me of awhile. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars.

Dark, Damaged, Swoony Main Characters!!!!

Please heed the trigger warnings!!! If you don’t and decide to continue reading, please do not take it out on the author.

This is an amazing read about Kevin and Skye. Both are survivors with significant pasts. They meet up in a therapy group and Kevin takes Skye in as he feels protective over her. There is an age gap factor, however, the bond that these two develop devours any issues that may be a result of their differences in age. On the surface, both would come across as being tough, possibly unlikeable and even scary individuals. The author does a great job of not glossing over their issues, but demonstrates who their struggles bind them together. The chemistry between these two is off the charts and as a reader, you can feel their love and devotion pouring off of the pages as you read the story. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author and am secretly (okay, not so secretly) hoping that there is a follow up on these two somewhere in the future!

the story Kevin deserves

When we first met Kevin in the previous book, we knew he was the traumatized underdog in the story. He was a well developed character whom you would of wanted to cheer for if David didn’t exist.
In this story though? Kevin’s evolution with Skye through both of their traumas gives him the happy ending he was unable to have in “Shoot Down the Stars”.
The character of Skye brought this story to an entirely elevated level, her past, her story, it’s truly as if they are two halves of one soul, finally finding its way to the light.
This is a very dark but very beautiful story. Ms. Biel has a talent of taking the horrible things in life and making them beautiful, and she absolutely nailed it with this book.

Wow! This is one angsty and emotional gripping dark read full of triggers so heed the authors warning.

Skye is a complex character who has suffered abuse as a child and Kevin equally has demons of his own and is an army vet. They meet whilst having mandated therapy and have a connection. Kevin feels drawn to Skye and has an overwhelming need to protect her. Their relationship is full of ups and downs whilst they learn to navigate their emotions and realise they are stronger together rather than apart. They do get their HEA eventually which makes it worthwhile reading.

Lauren has written a story about two characters who are drawn to one another in the most unlikely of circumstances. One is dealing with the demons of his past and the other is fighting with the demons of her present. There are potential triggers of self harm, addiction, and abuse so be mindful if you are sensitive reader.

Kevin and Skye both had my heart from beginning. One fighting the battles within his head while the other is fighting battles within her home and no matter how tired they are, they continue to do it on a daily basis. Both of them are so strong, even when they are at their weakness.

Their story isn’t easy and full rainbows - it’s dark and painstakingly emotional. I could feel their pain on each of the pages and teared up more than once from it. But Lauren did them justice, because through all their darkness they do find light. Their growth throughout the story along with the support they give each other and lessons taught on trust, love, and learning to let go of the past are phenomenal.

This story is more than just a romance, it’s a tale about two people that are clawing their way out of the darkness and end up finding that they are stronger together than on their own. Honestly, there are no words to describe how emotionally raw, gritty and real it is. Lauren had me glued to my kindle for the entirety of it and Kevin and Skye will be embedded in my soul forever. If I could give this 100 stars I would, because it definitely deserves more than just 5.
