She survived impact… But her dreams burned up on re-entry.
Spending her inheritance on a luxury cruise is the most reckless thing Hope has ever done, and she’s loving every second of it… right up to the explosion.
Now she’s stuck on a strange planet filled with countless dangers and just one chance to survive. The problem? He’s huge, scarred, and the scariest thing on this planet. He’s also the sexiest male she’s ever seen. His protection comes at a price, though. Her.
The life she envisioned is gone forever, but she might be on the brink of finding something better… if she can let go of what she wants to embrace what she needs.
Susan lives out on the Canadian west coast surrounded by open water, dear family and good friends. She’s jumped out of perfectly good airplanes on purpose and accidentally swum with sharks on the Great Barrier Reef. If the world ends, she plans to survive as the spunky, comedic sidekick to the heroes of the new world, because she’s too damned short and out of shape to make it on her own for long.
Writing is her joy, her escape from reality and the only way she knows of to quiet the nagging harridan of a muse the universe assigned to her.

This is another fab read for the series and I really liked the match between Hope and Menace. He was broken from his abused background and Hope had an illness that she finally got over, but the marks it left behind on her body made finding love difficult. Thankfully, after crashing on the prison planet and meeting Menace, she learned that he intended to help her survive but at the cost of being his mate. He was gruff and his responses to things often made me giggle ;) Hope, after spending so many years isolated, was well read and an equal partner to him with her knowledge. This made for a fun and exciting read with a wonderful HEA :D
When they heard the warning signal of a vessel coming toward their planet, Mayhem, Strife and Menace were working to fix a hole in Mayhem's roof. They stopped and prepared to fight whatever mercenaries the verexi had sent this time. Prisoners on this planet, they have had to fight for their lives many times as the verexi try to eliminate them. They've salvaged what they could from those they have defeated and were doing their best to build lives here. Perhaps this time there would be much more to salvage.
Hope had been getting a massage when the emergency alarms went off. The AI didn't give her clothing back and she was stuck with just the robe and slippers. Fortunately, she ran into Rissa who got her settled into one of the escape pods.
Her landing was not smooth it was a crash and she almost choked on the suspension gel that filled the pod, she did lose consciousness though and when she woke the gel had flowed out the open pod door. The pod was floating on an inflated ring on a massive river. She wasn't sure she had the swimming skills to make it to shore.
She balanced herself on the edge of the ring to wash off the gel and was startled by something brushing against her leg. This of course caused her to plunge into the water. Because of that she wasn't with the pod when Menace finds it and sinks it after destroying the beacons.
He finds his quarry on a rock in the river, from what he could see unarmed and possibly asleep. He manages to get her off the rock and to the shore safely but there is still the issue of the robe she insists on wearing.
Things heat up very quickly and they barely make it to the supply cave before the storm hits. They do begin to get to know each other beyond the attraction as well.
There's a lot of dangerous things on this planet, and they need to survive them and get the rest of the supplies from the pod Menace sunk.
I love the way this story progresses, while it's kindle melting sizzling it's also heartwarming and hopeful.
This is a solid five plus star read! This series is one of Hayes best! The Fa’rel have long been abused and tortured by their creators. Dumped on a harsh planet these survivors have flourished…fate intervenes as women are deposited on the planet in escape pods, surviving their own space disaster. We are treated to Menace’s story and what a beautiful love story it is. Menace is a hard and bitter warrior until he meets Hope. True to her name, she gives hope and love to Menace. I thought the most moving dialogue in this book is when Menace calls Hope “his painted beauty”. She was a survivor of a disease that left her skin spotted but Menace sees nothing but beauty in her markings. What an acceptance of diversity that he see beauty where others have not! I love that Hayes always reminds us to accept others that are perhaps different. Excellent read! I’d love to see Rage make an appearance in a future book. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Menace is a big furry behorned construct who along with his fellow constructs have been marooned on an inhospitable planet with only their and brawn to survive. Hope grew up on a mining planet as a sickly girl with autoimmune issues. She has finally overcome them and decided to celebrate by taking a matchmaking cruise. Sadly potential matches couldn’t see past the marks left by her illness. When the cruise ship is attacked Hope ejects in a safety pod and lands on the prison planet where Menace finds her. Hope and Menace couldn’t be more right for each other. I loved watching Hope assert herself and Menaces responses were priceless.
I enjoyed the story. Menace and his clanmates live on a planet they were sent to by their creators. They were sent to die. They make lives for themselves as best they can. Hope is on a matchmaking space cruise and did not find a mate along with several other women. They end up in escape pods when their ship is attacked. Menace finds her and believes that she is the enemy sent to take him and his clanmates down. A sweet story. I love Susan's stories. I look forward to the next book. I read arc of this book and this is my review.
Two scarred individuals can make each other whole…
Hope may not have the physical scars Menace has but she doesn’t know her worth either. She does know other stuff, about medicine and her condition and about things going on in the universe. Menace is knowledgeable about fighting and defense maneuvers, but not about real life and real girls. The adventure drew me in, the instant connection made me smile, the HEA made me glad I spent time with Hope and Ace.
This series is escapism at its best. The underlying premise of a weak but super intelligent race that tries to create a slave race of obedient super soldiers to protect them then tries to do away with their creations when things go wrong is very believable. The writing is tight and well plotted and the romance makes sense. This is an overall well put together package. I thoroughly recommend that you read the whole series.
Hope and Menace’s story brings us to a point in the series where you just want to know more about the rest of the ship wreck and the rest of Menace's brothers. Will they also find their mates on the ship? Will Rage finally be able to get back to them? So many questions and I eagerly await more books in the series. Susan Hayes is quickly becoming a favored author of this reader.
Such a great story! I love the undertones between Menace and Hope. Both have broken pasts, he was tortured and abused, she was isolated due to illness and rejected because of the marks it left on her body. Together they have a future beyond what they ever dreamed of, but it could all be taken away by the same poison that took Shatter from his brothers.
I’m loving this story! For Hope and Menace, it was definitely insta-attraction! He makes me laugh with his refusal to to admit to any ‘gentle’ emotions. I love Hope! She doesn’t let him get away with any of that! Not only that, she has knowledge and skills to help him when there’s trouble. I love watching these fa’rel males fall to the human women they discover. Delightful reading!
Menace keeps separate from his brothers, his fuse shorter so when he discovers a human female in his territory he is shocked by the immediate attraction to Hope. Hope has been searching for her place in the universe and finally finds it with Menace in this sweet tale.
I received a free copy of this book via Book Funnel and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is a world where men crated by others have been sent to die or be killed. But a cruise ship passing over explodes and give them a new hope to survive. Menace does not think he is deserving until he meets the one for him. It had great characters and hot stuff.
This is the fourth book in the Crashed and Claimed series by Susan Hayes. This one has the heroine crash landing on the prison planet where the hero lives with his “brothers”. This book was an adventure from beginning to end. I loved the relationship between the main characters. It was sweet and spicy and I really just enjoyed the whole book.
I spotted Marked For Menace first - since this is my first book by Susan Hayes, I followed my usual routine with a new author and read the book that got my attention regardless of where it is in a series. It’s a HEA which is a must and I enjoyed the characters a lot. I hope that you do also.
This planet is beautiful like New Zealand but will try to kill you like Australia. The overall story arc is really good. The guys are an interesting hodge podge of DNA; horns, fangs, claws, short golden fur, and incredibly strong and beautiful bodies. The women each bring a skill to the group that makes everyone's survival more comfortable.
I absolutely love this series, the storylines are enchanting and the characters are wonderful. I can't wait for more from this author. I received this book as a Free ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
I loved it! Hope was just what Menace needed to balance him. She brought light to his emotional darkness just as he filled her inner loneliness and made her feel beautiful and loved. It was sweet with steam.
Hope's emergency escape pod crashed on the planet and she quickly ran into a huge alien with fur. Menace found a tiny human woman struggling near a pod and he got her out of the water and when they touched it was kismet.
What a pleasure it was to read Marked for Menace. It has everything, crash landing, two beings meant to find each other, danger, love, some heat. And humour! I loved every word.
I love Menace! He seems like such a harsh dark person when you first meet him, but then it turns out he’s really a wonderful kind person. Love that he does all the carvings of his brothers and how she brings him news of Rage. So fitting! Just love this story.
Hope and Menace have a beginning much the same as in the first two books. Hope was a sick kid until recently but studied medicine for something to do. Which came in handy since Menace got stung by a venomous water creature. Enjoy
I love that all these women felt rejected and like damaged goods but their mates see the real beauty in each of them! Such fun and more tales to he told!
Nothing too dramatic happened between the two mcs. There was quick acceptance. I haven't read any of the others in this series and will have to check them out
Love both the alpha males and the strong women. Each story in the series is different and exciting. I want Rage to come get them all and go to their home planet.
I know if I read more of these short, short stories I will find out the answers to these questions presented in the first book of this series. I have hope.
Hope was abruptly thrown out of her cruise with a crash on a prison planet. When she is found by a massive alien on alert for assassins, she finds the love and purpose she was searching for her whole life.
I love it! I'm a little short on time. It's funny & spicy so it kept me reading. Menace is expecting an enemy when he goes hunting & is still looking for a trap when he finds a defenseless female on a rock in the middle of a river. He learns to find some trust when she saves his life after he gets stung by a venomous lizard in the river. He also learns she has medical knowledge that could be useful to them now that they are responsible for more female human mates like her. It is a great story & I an already reaching for the next one.
