I saw nothing but the beauty of Allah engraved within every letter, every word and every page.

When this man, Mohsen, walked towards the frontline to fight ISIS, he knew he wouldn't come back. He knew he would never see his mother or father again. Or his wife or his newborn baby, Ali.

But he made those steps to the battle one after the other with the loyalty of al-Abbas (as) and with the incomparable courage of Lady Zaynab (as) flowing through every vein of his.

He made those steps for us to be able to lay our eyes on the golden domes once again.

And when he fell to the ground, into our hearts rippled eternal love and selflessness.

With the blood of this martyr, with the modesty and with the femininity that I learnt from Lady Zaynab (as), my hijab will be the flag of Islam eternally.

"Everyone says: He's so lucky, he got martyred. But no one pays attention to the fact that in order to achieve martyrdom, he lives the life of a martyr" - Martyr Mohsen Hojaji

Beauty is the person who sacrifices everything for Allah. Just like us, Mohsen had a family. He had a wife and a baby boy and it takes true love for Allah and the Ahlulbayt for anyone to give them up and go to war, but mohsen ran for any opportunity that could take him towards martyrdom.

In his will that he recorded for his son, he said “sometimes cutting off attachments from certain things means you will get some better things, I have cut my attachment from you and your mother so I can attain the blessing of serving Lady Zaynab (a)”
When listening to this, I couldn’t help but cry as I noticed Mohsen’s voice quaver. He has emotions and feelings just like the rest of us, he is created human just like us, yet he is so much more.

His bravery in the face of the enemies of Allah reminds me of Abbas (as), ISIS feared him as he smiled when taken captive and he smiled when tortured for the information he wouldn’t give. his body mutilated by ISIS who couldn’t contain their anger towards the fact that he wasn’t afraid and wasn’t cooperating with them. This makes us proud, he truly deserved martyrdom.

His head severed from his body, I couldn’t help but remember the musa’ib of Imam Hussain (as), and I’m sure mohsen is proud and grateful that he served for the ahlulbayt and met with an end so close to the experiences during Ashura.

Al-Fatiha for our beloved mohsen, and for Ibrahim and all the shuhada who are the reason we continue to visit the shrines of our Imams today.

The shohada are our spiritual mentors and have shown us you don’t need to be an esteemed scholar to live in the way of God. This captivating book filled with anecdotes of Shaheed Mohsen Hojaji is a must-read. This man was just like you and I, he lived in this generation and faced many of the same problems you and I may face. He was full of love for God and it showed in every way be carried himself. The inspiring humility and dedication of Agha Mohsen to the Ahlulbayt (ams) proves that despite hurdles, ordinary individuals can reach spiritual heights. Let us offer a salawat in his honor.

After reading everyone’s account of him I understood that his life may have been short but it was a full one. People gravitated towards him. They wanted to be around him. He had a noble goal and everyday he strived to get closer to that goal until he achieved it, never wavering even in his final moments.

Not only are martyrs freed from this world and all the pain it entails but they live and die honorably. They win in this world and the next.
