All my life I’ve been told “be seen but not heard,” and I’m suffocating. Going through the motions to survive until I get my chance, my shot to prove I’m just as valuable as any man that my Dad wants me to snare.
When my father dies unexpectedly, I’m free—until I’m not. With our finances and the business under another man’s control, we’re forced to move in with Dad’s business partner and his son, Stone. He hates me, and I don’t know why, but I won’t take it lying down.
I just want to get through my last year of university unscathed. When Stone and the rest of the Elite continue to target me, I have no choice. The fighter comes out. They have no idea what I survived at the hands of my father. They won’t break me.
When We’re Alone is a contemporary romance novel suitable only for readers 18+ due to language and sexual scenes. This is an enemies to lovers standalone book with characters of university age. This bookcontains mature themes such as bullying and death, but our main characters will get their happily ever after (or for now). A full list of trigger warnings can be found at the front of the book.
DNF @ 20% - convoluted and cliche - feels very much like debut book, with clunky writing, but I see that the author has several other previous books. Already bored.

"This is one of my favorite views, Ava. You taking me into your tight, perfect p*ssy."
I love a good bully romance; they are one of my favorite tropes! When We're Alone is a bully romance/ enemies to lovers, I couldn't put it down; I devoured it in one day.
I loved the push and pull they had. Ava did not back down, and when Stone was being cruel, she would throw it right back at him.
This book has everything you want in a bully romance: bullying, hate/love, chemistry, and SPICE. Ava and Stone were perfection, and I loved the side characters; their chemistry was sizzling!
I recommend this book to anyone who loves bully romances. I can't wait to see what Genevieve writes next!!

So the first half was ok-ish, it was the second half that has some bullying and the plot picks up. It's not heavy on angst but the spice level is 🔥🔥🔥also the FMC is a badass. I give this book 5 stars for the FMC, GO Ava!
Ava has lived under her father's rule for all of her twenty-plus years and it hasn't been a pleasant rule. When he dies, she thinks that things will be better, but life gets seriously weird when she and her mom move in with her father's business associate and his son, Stone. A son who, for some reason, hates her and makes her life at her new college literally hell. She has no problem admitting that he's hot as hell, but he sucks as a human being. But she knows that if her dad didn't break her then Stone has no chance of doing so.
I don't read as much MF anymore as I generally read more RH which is how I discovered this author. But this book is everything that will get me to read an MF book. We have an FMC who is slowly, but surely, coming into her own. We have a jerk of an MMC who bullies her because of a miscommunication—all while being head over heels for her. It's a little bit dark and a lotta bit of steamy. The plot is good, you can't help but root for the characters and their growth. Take the time to read this book, as you won't be disappointed.
Ava and Stone are one hot pair. Their fire and determination to pi$$ each other off it’s just off the charts. I loved their story and wish there was more !!! This story follows Ava after her dad suddenly passes away and they move in with a business partner and his son Stone. Stone is so effected by Ava but thinks she is just a good digger looking for a hubby. This story is a bully romance/ enemies to lovers story. There is talk of death and some sexual assault (does not go to fair) with lots of bully. Spice - 🌶🌶🌶
Synopsis: Abusive and controlling father of the FC dies and they move in with his business partner/old friend of the FC’s mother. Brother of the MC is supposed to be engaged to FC but MC falls for FC. MC and his two friends bully the FC blowing hot and cold because he “hates rich girls who are only interested in money”. MC discovers his mistake leading to a HEA.
This is a light bully book which mainly revolves around the FC being called names and the mean girls picking on her. There is the obligatory gay friend who the FC uses to make the MC jealous. The story is an easy read with no real depth or angst. Whilst both MC and FC were likeable neither really jumped out for me and I did not feel that there was any real development of character or the relationship. The sex is light.
My issue with this book is that I felt the author relied too much on using a few sentences or plot tricks to build background and drama and couldn’t be bothered to write something with depth and engagement. For example, the portion of the book with the father was very short and yet we are supposed to believe that the FC was beaten regularly, starved and not allowed to do anything she wanted. There was no real evidence of this or description. Just a few comments about the FC being abused. Another example is that there is no real description of the mother and why she was how she was (only a brief explanation). The book starts with her being almost a zombie and then she comes out of her shell and suddenly she’s off holidaying with the MCs father. There’s no development of the FC/mother’s relationship. Finally, the FC was supposed to have some condition which her father refused to allow her treatment for (apparently) and she had to sneak away to get transfusions. There’s no description of exactly what was wrong with the FC or how the father could just deny her treatment yet she manages to sneak away and get it - the father must have known as he would have to pay for it. Again this seemed just another cheap plot trick to try and create more depth and drama for the FC.
The book if fine if all you want is a light read with limited angst or investment.
It is my first read from this author. The book is written well, and the characters in the book are well developed, meaning the main characters and the secondary characters. The main characters are Stone and Ava. At the same time, the secondary characters are Reid, Mason, Cole, and Minnie. The villain is Ava's father, Dane, Oakview female elite, and Stone’s half-brother. The secondary characters are interesting enough without taking away the spotlight of the main characters at the same time; they support the storyline. The author did an excellent job on the plot and storyline. The attraction between the main character is well described, and in a way that it feels like I am not reading porn (by the way, there is nothing wrong with reading porn, sometimes, I do not mind a lot of sex in the book). The author did an excellent job in describing the emotions of each character and especially the main characters, in a manner that the characters became alive in the reader’s mind, and the story appears more credible. Why the three-and-a-half star? The author left out one of the book's main topics, Ava’s condition. The end story feels not complete and rushed. I do not believe there is a second book for Ava and Stone, and it is such a shame; the main characters deserve a second book with a better ending. The author had me hooked and enthralled on reading this story she would be added on my list as a follower and further on as my favorite author if she improves her writing end story. I will continue to read her books. Miss Jasper, please improve your writing, especially your endings and I am hoping you consider a second book for Ava and Stone.
This was a good bully romance by Genevieve Jasper.
Ava has spent her entire life being privileged, or so people thought. The reality was that her privileged life came with strings - strings used to control her. Stone also came from money, but he had a more carefree life, aside from the brother he disliked with a passion. When he goes out to a club one night, he is instantly attracted to the girl dancing across the room. That attraction quickly dissolves to hate when she and her mother move into his father’s house. But what is the saying? There is a fine line between love and hate, and despite bullying her, he can’t stay away. What happens when he finds out that everything he believed about her was a lie? And will she ever forgive him for what she’s endured?
I love a good bully romance and this was definitely a good one! It’s a slow burn and a majority of bullying comes from outside the guy. It was an easy read and it’s a good quick one if you have a day or so in between other reads.
Bully romance, enemies to lovers, close proximity. The FMC is forced to move in with the MMC and attend the same university which is where the bullying takes place, the majority coming from the mean girls/MMC hook ups. We learn the MMC‘s anger and hate toward the FMC comes from misunderstandings, so once the truth start to come out, he lets go of that and realizes that he has always had strong feelings for the FMC. At this point, she is still hurt and doesn’t trust the MMC, so she is resistant to him claiming that she belongs to him. So she does fight him in a lot of ways, but there is still a little BBS, but it wasn’t bad enough that it was a huge turn off for me.
There was a little confusion with the world the author attempted to create, stating it was university but wrote the environment like high school (lockers, uniforms, teachers not professors, bells when class was finished). But overall I really enjoyed this book. It ran smoothly and I didn’t feel like it dragged at all.
I read this book so fast for being 260pages. This is an enemies to lovers story and it is emotional, deep, and leaves you feeling all the feelings. It also gets 4/5 on the spice scale. It wasn't super kinky but the foreplay is what makes it hot. Great storyline and character details. I will say this book is a standalone but I feel I need more. I also need a book for Millie and Mason. The only thing I didn't like about this book was the fact these characters are in their 20's but the setting and the way they act is more like high school kids. As I said before I feel this book could go on into a second book even if it focuses on other side characters. This book had me under a spell because just when you think everything is going well something happens and I felt like I needed to keep reading.
I'm pretty fond of bully books, and this one was one of the best I've read. Stone and his friends are exactly the kind of guys I wish I'd had at my school, even though there's no way they'd have even wasted time on me.
Ava is a kickass fmc, and I loved seeing her relationship with Stone evolve, as well as getting to know the supporting cast along the way. This writer has a real talent for weaving great characters into an absorbing story, that keeps you turning page after page. Looking forward to more!!
What can I say? I stinking loved this book. It’s been on my TBR for a couple of weeks, I really wish i had read it sooner. If you LOVE enemies to lovers, then this is your next read. Add in a possessive Alpha and Genevieve made this book for you. Did Stone piss me off? Yes, he did. But isn’t that kind of the point of the Alphahole?
Run, don’t walk and enjoy this brilliant book by Genevieve Jasper.
I enjoy bully romances, although this is a light one. The main and supporting characters were likable. I have 2 issues, it was never clear why she was getting transfusions, and now that I know this is an English author so much makes sense. Why not just base this in England? Americans can't legally drink until they are 18, yet you had them all getting served at clubs and bars.
Stone. is. EVERYTHING. It's been months since I read this book (I'm way late to reviewing but better late than never!) and I still think about Stone alllllll the time. I LOVE a good bully romance and this book was literally the perfect amount for me. Genevieve writes such anxiety free stories they are SO easy to read and beyond addictive! If you are looking for a college -level bully romance with the hottest H ever, I can't suggest When We're Alone enough!
I really enjoyed this book. It’s got great characters, hot AF guys, sexual tension, university setting - although it feels more like a high school / academy with the uniforms. Interesting bullying and Numerous and very detailed steamy scenes. Overall a great book, would love to see a spin off on Millie or her brother that owns the club
This author was recommended to me by a fellow indie romance author, and wow. I devoured this book in one sitting. Definitely unputdownable.
I'm not usually a fan of the so-called "bully romance", but this one stayed right on the line and did not make the MMC unredeemable. I loved the writing and the character development, and this will definitely not be the only book I read from this author.
It was a really well written book at the start. But the ending basically just like sped through everything so fast. I feel the parents getting together in the end was just kind of a cop out and a way to have it so there was apparently never any parents around. ALSO WHY WAS SHE GOJNG TO THE HOSPITAL? This is made to me such a thing throughout the book and yet is never addressed. Wth.
I cannot say enough about this book. I love it so. Stone is top five boyfriends and will never be replaced. Genevieve Jasper is an anxiety free author so if you are worried about the bully label but have been wanting to dive into the world of bullying, this is your book. If you are an experienced bully lover, this is your book. I mean it when I say you can't go wrong with Geneieve!
It was okay… it all felt a bit immature for me, perhaps I’ve been reading too many darker romances recently but these characters did not feel like they were in university at all and the chemistry just didn’t hit home for me. Average at best.
Genevieve has an amazing writing style that makes you want more. This book was amazing- second chance romance with a side of bullying- possessive. Wow! I am anxious for more of Ava and stone through their friends’ stories. Give me Mason and Cole’s stories,
This was okay to me but just that. Nothing really stood out. I expected more and feel slightly let down but overall it towed the line. Absolute best part was the H’s two best friends, the were gold.
When the entire conflict could be avoided if the hero did the normal human thing and brought up the issue. Or if the heroine, when the hero says or suggests weird things, just asked him what he meant.
LOL, this book was so good I couldn’t put it down! I love how much emotion was shared on both sides of the story. I love a great Smut but also an amazing story line which this book has both! Highly recommend, it’ll be worth your time!!
This book was phenomenal. I did not want it to end!
Once you start this book you will not be able to stop. I was hooked from the very start. I LOVE Stone. Oh my god he is so fucking fine.
The book took a turn at the beginning that I did not see coming and I loved it. It was the perfect start to a story that I can tell you, was explosive.
Stone trys everything he can to make Ava's life hell but she isn't the type of girl to be broken easily. She gives back just as good as she gets. They both constantly were giving me butterflys, they have such a push and pull effect between them. He says nasty things she chucks them right back at him. Stone does shock Ava sometimes with how far he can actually go but you know deep down Stone is hating every minute of being horrible to Ava. The chemistry between them is absolute fire, especially when they're hating each other the most - that's when it's the best😏.
Although Stone "hates" Ava, He is very possessive of her and these are the best type of alpha males. He goes around like he hates her and don't want her but will fly off the handle if any man looks at her. I love when Stones possessive, alpha side shines bright, it's when he's at his best 😍🥵🥵.
I'm thankful that Stone finally comes to realise Ava is not the gold digging slut he thought she was all along. Stone does thoughtful things but while still remaining he's hard, aggressive self. Like the thing with Carrie. Something so small meant so much to Ava and Stone knew that.
I also fell in love with Mason and Reid in this book. They were such strong characters and I could already see a story building for each of them within this book. I'm so excited for their books and I hope we still get little snippits of Stone and Ava because I'm definatly not ready to let them go.
Devoured this book in one sitting! Stone and Ava’s story was so good. I love how Genevieve Jasper writes the best fierce and feisty FMCs. Ava is no different. Though she has basically lived her life in a gilded cage, captive to the whims of how her billionaire father wants her to live her life. Despite all of that, she is kind and loyal to those she loves. I did want to shake Stone more than once over his treatment of Ava, his POVs did help explain his behavior. The steam level is high in this book! Love the side characters in this story too! They were just as entertaining as the main characters! Highly recommend this contemporary romance!!
I don’t think I have read anyone that has a more love to hate hate to love relationship than Ava and Stove OMG they will do anything and everything to get under each others skin. The chemistry between these two though is so freaking explosive. This is one of those stories that you can’t help but say a little prayer that they get their HEA. This is a bully romance at its finest that will have you captivated from beginning to end and begging for more because you absolutely cannot get enough of these two!! LOVED IT AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND
I am so devastated I read this book so quickly. I am desperate for more Ava and Stone. From enemies to lovers, stone and ava are by far one of my favourite character couples! The hate, the chemistry, the love. The plot and book are so well written! Cannot recommend enough
